Chapter 3 – A World I Wonder
Melody's POV, Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex
I checked my appearance from the reflection of a nearby window. I could see a girl with light peach skin, dark purple eyes and lavender hair with pink highlights. I tied it up in a ponytail, leaving the front bangs hanging freely. I was wearing my favorite sunglasses over my head, a red shirt with a rainbow music note, a golden necklace with my first name on it, a black leather jacket with spiky metal cuffs, a red and white belt with a golden buckle, black jeans and rainbow sneakers.
I could hear my friends calling me to get inside. So where were we at? A tall, extreme, fun, family entertainment center made as a gigantic mall. It wasn't opened yet, but since I was applying for a job there, I was allowed to come in. I brought two of my friends over since they were interested with the new Freddy place.
As we entered into the main entrance, we were welcomed to a sight to be seen. [1]
Light yellow and neon pink lights shone all over the dark place. The floor was covered with black and light squares, bringing a sense of old nostalgia of the 1980s. Passing by the empty ticket booths and the opened turnstiles, we saw a gigantic golden statue of what must be the titular Freddy character. He was holding a microphone, looking upwards as if he was rocking out on the stage. Spotlights shone around him from below and there some water jets squirting upward from the sides. From the sides, there were two stores. One that was called 'Faz-Pad' and 'Glamrock Gifts'.
I was amazed by this. I know that Freddy's aimed at younger kids, but this one was for the whole family. I am one hundred percent sure that a lot of teenagers would want to rock over at this place. I mean, I would for sure. This would be every girl's dream of playing around all day and all night. Good thing I was signing up to be a security guard.
"You're good to go?" asked Mojo, a British accent to suit his looks.
I grinned. "All ready!"
"Hopefully you don't mess up. The sooner you lose that job promotion, the sooner you will be out in the streets and in jail."
"Hey. Shut it. I fight crime. Not do crime.
"Still can get pretty risky," pointed out Cade.
I rolled my eyes as we turned around the corner. Mojo gave me a kiss on my cheek, making me giggle.
That's my boyfriend. He has tan skin, midnight blue hair styled in a Taper Fade Mohawk, blue eyes and wore a brown leather jacket, a violet shirt underneath, a golden chain necklace, black pants and black boots with violet accents.
The name? Mojo Mohawk. He earned his name as a professional hairstylist of all sorts. He had been my boyfriend for two years that time. You can think of him as this 'Prince Charming' guy, though don't get under his skin that much, because…
"Stop making out like this," grunted Cade. "You're going to make a scene in a kids-friendly place."
"Says the guy who looks like a witch," said Mojo bluntly.
"I'm not a witch!"
"Then why dress like one?"
"Then why you shaved your hair before coming here?" scoffed Cade.
Mojo playfully punched him in the shoulder. I rolled my eyes at the banter.
The other guy is Cade Devrim, one of my best friends. He has light peach skin, brown short hair, brown eyes and wore a grey cap with sunglasses over the rim, a thin black coat, a black shirt, black jeans and black boots. We met in Arts class years ago and he decided to stick around me most of the time surprisingly. You need someone to identify the situation you are in? Then he's the detective of your case.
"Do you think what you wear is appropriate?" asked Cade. "I mean, it's not the right time now, but you are going to a job interview for a place in the night shifts."
"I'll be fine!" I said. "They will overlook it. When they see my grades and my strengths, then they will hire me in the blink of an eye."
"Unless they are just interested in finding a girl."
"Hey!" snapped Cade. "Nobody gets my girl. Nobody."
"Well, my girlfriend made at least nine guys go heads over heels, so that's unavoidable."
Don't look at this the wrong way. It's just Cade and Mojo. Not me. I think it's because Mojo is laid-back, positive and sometimes soft. On the other hand, Cade is cynical, realistic and what you call a 'man-child'.
We finally arrived at the main meeting room. The wooden door was right there in the hallway where visitors couldn't enter.
"Alright," said Mojo. "This is it. Your interview starts in a few seconds, babe."
I smiled, rubbing his cheek. "Understood. Wish me luck. I hope I get this job."
"You don't need luck," said Cade with a smirk. "Skills always beat luck. You know, maybe you might be a good security guard for your awesome skills."
"Remind me again," said Mojo. "Melody, you have been taking care of the streets lately. Why a mall?"
I shrugged. "Well, I need to get my own money and show that I'm independent. It is me who makes the right choices."
"Yeah," said Cade. "Shopping malls are a huge target for robbers.
"It's a 'family entertainment center'," corrected Mojo.
"Whatever."
I checked my watch "Oh! Now it's time! Here's come Melody Song ready to shine!"
Winking at the two boys, I slid across the slippery floor. I was going faster than the speed of light. Everything was passing by so quickly like I was in a racing car and I was winning. I could see the finish line right there. The door. The door that would decide my destiny. I was so close to reaching it. So close that I think that-
CRASH! [1s]
…I would be able to get through. Instead, I slammed my face right into the wood and fell on my bum. It turned out that it was locked, so a loose door was more likely to let me get through and make a dynamic entry for me. I hope nobody saw that.
"'Makes the right choices'," said Cade sarcastically. "Like not checking if the door is loose."
Exactly!
"Should I be concerned?" asked Mojo.
Ignoring them, I entered the office. It wasn't that much. It was a pretty small room with a wooden desk, cabinets and a small fridge on the side. There were pictures hanging on the walls, containing certificate of allowance, licensing and some newspapers about the Pizza Plex. And right behind the desk was the manager; a man with tan skin, blonde hair, brown eyes and wore a buttoned shirt.
"Mister Luis, isn't it?" I said. "I'm here for the position of being a night guard?"
Luis smiled. "Ah! I thought there was someone invading the mall, but I guess I'm wrong. Nice to meet you. You must be Melody Aria Song. Take a seat."
I smiled as I sat down. I placed my resume on the desk, rolling my shoulders around. Immediately, I felt nervous. What if I don't get the job? That was the question I thought to myself. Despite telling myself that wouldn't happen, I was feeling worried they might not approve me.
"I like your hair, Miss Song" said Luis. "Your purple and pink hair. They really brighten this office and it is always in desperate need of some brightening!"
"Oh really?" I said. "Thank you! I did it myself."
OK. That was a good start actually.
"I looked over your application and the resume you sent earlier," said Luis, peering at the paper on the desk. "You must have updated your resume."
"I just want to make it neat and tidy," I said. "It was nearly out of place."
"Well, so what gets you want to work here at Freddy Fazbear?"
"I first heard about the Fazbear franchise since it was popular for kids around here. But when I heard about the Pizza Plex, it was said to be something spectacular. It looks like something I can take care of. I want to try out the night shifts. I think this place is a good workplace to help out in."
Technically, I don't think it's considered safe. Mojo said that I tend to sugarcoat things, but you try being polite to a Freddy fan about entering a place that may be 'responsible for injuries'. And yes, I love the danger.
"I saw that you got some good grades from high school," said Luis. "Good in sport, music, human and health development, and some Math subjects. We have a lot of jobs we are offering here, but some of the required subjects seem to fall short."
"Yeah," I admitted. "I'm not so good in science." [2]
Back in high school…
I stood on the top of balcony at the top of the school. My group was working on a project about testing weathers and wind patterns. It was something to do with clouds or rain droplets. I set up an experiment of investigating if the temperature affected wind patterns. I nearly forgot including the weather and it got out of hand.
I was flying a kite, checking on how high it was going. Maybe standing on the balcony wasn't the best idea, but I wanted to get a brilliant angle with the kite in the air.
"Seems to be higher than this morning!" said my teammate behind me. "I think it is good to put the kite down already."
"Really?" I said. "Oh man. Finally. This has been taking a long t-!"
Unfortunately, I lost focus on my balance and I slipped over. I went falling three levels from the school. The whole courtyard and playground would see me falling down from the building. And my only landing pad was a long table.
Where teachers were having their lunch at.
Crashing onto one end of the table, my weight actually lifted other end of the table up and it sprung all the food above. They flew towards the playing children nearby, splatting them in vegetables, soup, cream cheese and bread.
One bowl of candy got shoved into a young boy's mouth…and he swallowed it all. ALL THE CANDIES.
"Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh!" he squealed, his pupils enlarging.
It would have been a good time to run, but I was in the middle of angry teachers who were trying to have a good lunch and only to get their food wasted. There was going to be some explaining for my reckless stunt. And just sitting in front of me was my science teacher, holding up the kite I dropped.
"So…" I said with a sheepish grin. "Am I getting that extra credit you promised me?"
"You got a lot of action in you," said Luis. "Got good strength, agility and golden medals in sport events. There are even some reports of you stopping crime."
"Really?" I said.
"Yep. It's all over the news. Canada is a part of America as well. I heard about your stories and heroic efforts. I once heard about how you managed to take down a criminal gang at the tram."
I chuckled. "It was not such a big deal. The thing that upset me was when they stole a lollipop from a baby and that's when I jumped into action. I gave the baby back his lollipop."
"At a graduation party, you stopped a robber from stealing the school's funds by taking down a star decoration and preventing him from escaping."
"It was just a Nerf gun!" I protested. "I was acting a little silly. I didn't know the bullet would be enough to drop the large star decoration."
"And you once stopped a criminal gang from escaping by subduing their vehicle."
Exactly 2 months ago…
I was walking home after a night out for myself. In my hands was a large bowl of leftover spaghetti. I ordered a bit too much and it was stupid for me to think I could eat the whole buffet. At least I got something for my parents. As I skipped and hummed along, I heard something crashing. It came from a nearby petrol station.
"Give me the money now!" screamed a voice from inside.
I gasped as I hid behind a nearby truck. Peeking over, I could see two robbers wearing black masks pointing their guns at the frightened cashier as she took out all the money. I growled a little. I hate criminals.
Glancing at the truck, I saw another robber inside, waiting in the driver's seat. The truck wasn't even parked near the petrol stations. I even managed to see the petrol level above the steering wheel.
Empty, huh?
And I was close to the petrol hole.
An idea came to my mind.
Quietly opening the hole, I took the plastic off the bowl and poured in all the spaghetti in. I knew that was a silly idea, but that robber would be fooled that his truck was high on petrol and he and his buddies could escape easily. Meanwhile, while they figure out what the hell was going on with their truck, I would be away and calling the police. Genius plan.
Once all the spaghetii noodles was inside the truck, I licked the tomato sauce dripping from the side and tiptoed away. I hid in the bush, waiting for the two robbers to come out.
"This one is poorer than the last," complained one of them with a bag of money over his shoulder.
"At least we got something," said his companion. "Let's fuel up our girl and get out of here."
Oh no, you don't!
I took out my phone and dialed in 911.
"Hold on," said the third robber. "The truck is already filled!"
"Strange," said the first robber. "I thought it was empty when we got here."
"At least we got a head start," said the second robber. "Let's move out!"
My phone buzzed and I tapped the call button.
"Hello?" said the voice on the other end. "This is the police."
"Hi," I said. "I am at a nearby petrol station and there is a gang stealing money."
They turned on the engine, but nothing happened. It sputtered and shook the entire truck.
"What?" said the driver. "What the hell?"
"I like you to get your boys over here now," I said.
KABOOM! [2s]
And then, the motors EXPLODED. The truck flipped over, caught in a fiery smoking explosion of fire and bursting lights. It landed on the roof, the three robbers inside. They began shouting in rage, confused with what happened. At least they weren't near any of the pumping stations of the place.
I sat there, shocked. "Actually, can you get both the police and the fire brigade here?"
"That's not how I remember it," I said.
"The witnesses say that they saw an explosion, Miss Song," said Luis.
"I don't know how a bowl of cold food would cause a vehicle to explode! That's impossible. And besides, I got charged for nearly setting fire to a flammable petrol station." [2]
"Anyway, after what you've done and all your great efforts," he said. "You're hired, Melody!"
I was surprised. A smile formed on my face. I finally got in! Sure, I would lose my normal life routine and sleep schedule, but this was the job I wanted. A good start to my working career. I stood up and shook his hand.
"Thank you!" I said. "Thank you so much!"
"No problem," said Luis. "Now, before I give you your first pay check, I'm going to put you through a 'trial period'."
"Trial period?" I asked.
"We will have you look after the place for five nights," he explained. "To see if you can handle it. Doing the night watch every single night."
There was something a little off when he said that. He looked stressed. As if he was nearly begging me to stay. I couldn't lay down my finger, but I got a feeling he was worried I might quit this job.
"Five nights?" I said. "I can manage it."
"Great!" he said, giving me a smile. "Tomorrow, we will give you a tour around the place during our grand opening. And tomorrow night will be when you will start. We have uniforms in the supplies closet."
He stood up, walked over to the closet and opened it to reveal a set of white, red, pink, and blue security shirts and hats. There were even black vests with the Pizza Plex logo on it. It looked really fancy and formal. Like being a police cop. But I didn't really have an interest in dressing codes.
"I will take the red one," I said. "Medium."
Luis nodded and grabbed a red shirt and a red cap with the word 'SECURITY' on it. He handed it over to me. The second I held onto it, I felt that I have the authority to look after the place.
"Do I get to wear my leather jacket?" I asked. "I know it's a bad idea, but it feels nice when-"
"Hold on a minute," said Luis, looking through the closet.
I thought it was my imagination, but he pulled out a black leather jacket. Neat, triangular collar with metal buttons, silver jacket zippers and a white Pizza Plex logo on the back! Now that really fit the Glam Rock style of this mall.
"It's perfect," I said, taking it. "Thank you very much."
"Excellent," said Luis. "Get some good rest for tonight, OK, dear? If any more questions, then you can stay around and ask me. I'll keep you updated through the phone number you gave me from your resume."
"I think I will be fine there, Mister," I said. "I handle things at my best. I handle things at my worse. There is nothing that can hold me down at this place."
Luis' eyes widened, rubbing his head.
"Hold onto that thought," he muttered to himself.
"Huh?" I said.
"Forget it. Sorry. I'll be seeing you tomorrow, Melody."
"See you later!"
The door opened and another girl came in. That was fast. I didn't know there was another person looking for a job. [2s]
It was a girl. Filipino I think. She appeared to be the same height and age as I am. She has tan skin, brown eyes, black hair with the fringe combed to the left and her back tied in pigtails and wore blue rimmed glasses over her eyes with blue lens. She wore a white shirt with a rainbow music note and a paintbrush, a black and pink glove, a belt with a purple buckle, black pants and black shoes.
"Augustina Cruz," said Luis. "Nice to meet you."
I quickly passed by, knowing how long I was staring at her at.
"Sorry," I muttered.
The girl – whose name must be Augustina – groaned, appearing uncomfortable. I was shuffling my feet across the floor as I slowly made my way to the door. I didn't know why, but I suddenly got interested in her. Would she be my partner in work? That was something that was most likely to happen. Perhaps I could know her a little more.
I smiled to myself as I went out of the office. Maybe I wouldn't be alone doing the night shifts.
Walking through the hallway, I spotted Mojo and Cade waiting patiently. The former was fiddling with his own hair while the latter was cleaning his sunglasses.
I sneaked behind Mojo and squeezed his shoulders.
"I got it!" I said.
"What?" said Mojo.
I couldn't hide my excitement. "I GOT IT! I'M IN!"
"You are?" said Cade, amazed. "Shocker!"
I cheered, jumping up and down. My first job that only required my strength and nothing else yet. I was looking forward to being a security guard to watch over a place and I got it. Mojo picked me up and swung me around for a few seconds. Laughing, the two of us shared a kiss. Cade clapped with a genuine smile on his face.
"Whoo!" said Cade loudly. "Happy that you got the job. Knew that you are up to be a guardian."
"Yeah," I said, packing my uniform into Mojo's backpack. "I'll settle right in just fine. They want to give me a week to have an experience here so that I can be comfortable, but I can do this. I'm not just a volunteer."
"Do you think we should go?" asked Mojo worriedly. "We aren't really supposed to be here."
I stayed quiet for a while. Tonight was just the three of us going to a restaurant for dinner. However, the restaurant appeared as small as a cardboard box compared to this great pizzeria. I know that was a grand opening the next time, but at that moment, I found my heart beating faster. After seeing the new playgrounds and attractions, I suddenly find myself wanting to stay for a while.
"Let's just go see the main dining room," I said. "Maybe they have the animatronics set up there already!"
Cade shook his head. "I'm not sure. Folks don't like it when we spoil ourselves."
"Then let's make it a secret. We were delinquents before."
"We DRESS like delinquents," pointed out Mojo.
"I think mine feels better."
Mojo and Cade stared at each other as if they were reading each other's minds. Knowing them, they would get skeptical of my recklessness at times. I couldn't blame them. They are men, but they have their own thoughts. Finally, they nodded, smiling mischievously. [1]
Without needing to exchange any words, we made our way to the main dining room. Eventually, I went running around the mall. Cade and Mojo just walked behind, taking it slow to observe the center. I was amazed of how many rooms and entertainment they managed to place in. If I lived in my own world, then THIS is the world I would dream of.
I'm a classic Pop Rock lover and this really shout out a lot of Rock. More on Glam Rock, but still, everything looked pretty great. You bet there were some rooms that looked kiddy, but the colors and designs would make even a war veteran opened his jaw really wide.
There was a go-kart stadium. The track looked pretty great, though I was hoping for ramps, obstacles and power-ups. You know, the ones from Mario Kart. But it was an impressive track filled with loops, sharp turns and large hills. The only shame was that the karts appeared small and the same. Not the custom, fancy-looking karts you would see in video games.
There was a golf course. It might be mini golf, but the track looked incredible. Welcome to the jungle you would say. Along with the neon stripes all around, the whole place really reminded of the green and deadly jungle. There were trees, pools of water and lush green grass areas. Most of the rooms appeared to be the skeleton or the insides of a crocodile, but that just added up to the awesomeness.
Finally, we arrived at the main event. The dining room. It was like a combination of a cinema and a dining room. It was nearly dark, but there were pink and blue lights that provided some illumination for us to see clearly.
The tables were in place, covered in blue cloths and the red chairs were pulled in. The walking pathways were in black and white tiles while the dining areas were covered in a purple glittery carpet with faces of Freddy on it. Balloons, party hats and plastic plates were already on the tables, ready for a huge feast.
Plants – from bushes and jungle trees – decorated each side of the dining areas. From the sides and on the walls, we could see billboards or signs that led to the other attractions of the center. All in bright neon colors. The whole dining room gave me a sense of impatience. We were supposed to wait for it to opened, but with us already there, I couldn't hold back my excitement of arriving at the new pizzeria.
There they were. There was a lavender stage and the black curtains were opened. The Pizza Plex logo was right above in neon stripes with four cartoon characters in the center. And right on the stage were the four characters.
The four main animatronics of the show.
They had a human-shaped appearance and wear punk or glam rock themed accessories in the 1980s vibe. Mainly wearing face paint, oversized shoulder pads and spiky bracelets. They nearly appeared fake plastic robots, all standing taller than adults. However, they nearly look real as in like real furry characters. Maybe it was my own thought, but God, they look so handsome that I could marry one of them.
Well…I already have Mojo, so never mind.
The animatronics were powered down at the moment, their eyes lifeless and dull. They were frozen in position as if posing for an invisible audience. There was a sense of superiority surrounding them. It was like they owned the place. It had been kept as secret, but everybody was told the names of the animatronic.
Standing on the left – my left – was a white-pink chicken named Glamrock Chica. She had an orange beak that were appeared to be permanently shut, blue eyes drooping downwards and orange feet. There were a few stray feathers that stick out from the top of her head with a pink hair bow. There were visible pink metal segments below her left eye and a pink marking around her right eye, making her look like a prom queen. Her body was rather curvy. She was wearing green eye rings, a pink chest piece, a narrow metallic waist, small pink shoulder guards above her segmented arms which end in green gloves, and green and pink tape wrapped around her heels to resemble leg warmers. She was holding up a blue and hot pink guitar
On the right was a green alligator with a punk rock aesthetic and an intimidating look. He sported pointy sharp teeth, black nails, a red Mohawk, reptilian textured legs, spots on his arms and cheeks, a yellow stomach, a yellow jaw and a yellow segment on his long tail. He had a purple lightning bolt tattoo over his muzzle and purple feet. He wore black bracelets with metal spikes, purple shoulder guards, purple fingerless gloves and golden star-shaped sunglasses with purple lenses. In his hands was a yellow bass guitar.
Roxanne Wolf was another predator of the quartet. A grey wolf with bright yellow eyes, purple lips and toenails and face paint with a series of black markings. Her hair was the wildest as she had a large white mane and a green curl hanging on the front. She wore a red crop top t-shirt printed with some black star shapes that exposed her stomach, earrings on her eyes, bracelets around the wrists and neck, a spiked belt and red shorts. She was holding a green keytar which stood out from the natural rock guitars.
But the largest and bulkiest of them all was Glamrock Freddy, standing in the middle. He was the most genial looking of the four, the only one who didn't have a guitar. He had a microphone stand in front of him. For some reason, he nearly resembled a jaguar than a bear. His eyes were purple-blue, his body fur was a bright orange, and he had pairs of fangs, light blue claw nails and red shins. He wore large red shoulder guards, spiked bracelets, a red earring on his left ear, and light blue and red face paint.
"Hi there," I said quietly. I drew closer to the stage as I dared to. There was a fluttering feeling in my stomach as if I was…drawn to this place. It felt really strange. The silence that filled the air – other than the occasional breathing from us three – just enhanced this strange sensation.
"Holy s***," I said to myself. "Would you look at that."
"Huh," said Cade, crossing his arms. "I thought that they would go for the girly type, but this is really hard rock I say."
"Glam Rock, 80s and 90s," said Mojo. "That's what they intend to go to."
"They say that this Pizza Plex is going to be better than their past two restaurants," I said, stroking the stage with a finger. "I don't know much, but I think this is worth a lot to build."
"Probably went to extremely badass with their budget and ideas."
"They even have bright colors, glitter, tattoos and cool hair! Kids are going to love this!"
Cade snorted. "Well, if this place is supposed to be for 'children and adults alike', then they shouldn't encourage children to have colored or extreme hairstyles like those animatronics."
With a cheeky smile, Mojo took out a hair razor, turning it on.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
"If that's the case," said Mojo. "I think it might be a good time to match their hairstyles!"
Cade slowly turned his head as Mojo talked and then saw the hair razor. Immediately, he freaked out and shoved Mojo's razor back into his jacket.
"YOU STAY AWAY FROM MY HAIR!" he shouted.
I rolled my eyes, glancing back at the animatronics. The one I focused on was Glamrock Freddy. His eyes were nearly closed and his jaw was opened as if he paused in the middle of singing. We locked eyes with each other. Well, it was just me, but I felt that we were. For a moment, I thought I saw life in those plastic eyes as I wondered if they were blue or purple. He was somehow alive. Somehow conscious. I felt it.
Glamrock Freddy winked one eye.
I blinked in surprise. Squinting my eyes, I checked for any more movements. Nothing else from him.
Huh. Weird.
"Anyway, dummies," I said. "Aside from that, those animatronics look cool and friendly looking. How do you think it would be like to meet them?"
"Eh…you know that they are just ROBOTS," said Mojo. "Not living beings."
"What? Can't I imagine like a child?"
"We are teens and nearly adults now," said Cade bluntly.
"…teenagers are children as well!"
"I got a question," said Mojo, rubbing his chin. "If this place gets robbed, what would they do to the animatronics?"
Cade shrugged "I don't know, dude. Probably destroy their asses?"
"Guys," I said. "No one is dumb enough to focus on wrecking them. Besides, if anyone is going to destroy them, then I will step in their way."
"You're sacrificing your life to a bunch of metal machines?" asked Cade
"Hey. Those animatronics have a special place in the hearts of the children. That's what they told me."
"Yeah, but what if it's not necessary to 'rescue' them?" asked Mojo. "That's sweet, but if you want to help, then you have to try look out for the living in times when you don't have control."
"But the Glamrock Animatronics," I said, pointing at them. "Many people would be devastated if something happens to them."
"I know, but there are some things you can't save," said Mojo, placing his hands onto my shoulders. "With the animatronics, they can be fixed or replaced. If it's not easy, then you must have a solid reason why you want to keep them. There are things that are worth and some…that should be somebody else's worth."
I was miffed by what he said. I looked back at the animatronics. They were still standing so beautiful and ready to rock. I couldn't bear to see them bent in any way. However, Mojo was sort of right. They are just machines.
"Shucks," I groaned.
I snapped my fingers in frustration.
POW! [1s]
All the lights in the room suddenly snap out and everything went black. We stood there in silence, unable to move by the sudden blackout.
Mojo turned on his flashlight.
"At least we got to see the animatronics today," he said. "No wonder why they are opening tomorrow."
"Let's just get the hell out of here," said Cade. "We would end up in s*** if someone caught us snooping around here."
How come the lights turned off the second I snapped? I snapped my fingers and boom. The lights fizzled out. My chest felt pretty tight. It was like there were a lot of worms crawling around me. However, it wasn't the time to think about it. Luis could find us any minute.
"Agreed," I said.
Vanessa's POV, Oswald's Apartment
I never knew that Fazbear Entertainment would build another pizzeria in Canada of ALL places. Mostly, the franchise was really popular in American and only there. However, it seemed that they wanted to show the entire world, so they started with Canada. I wouldn't blame them. Canada is a close country to the states, nearly part of America. I mean, the folks there are really friendly and welcoming I say.
The government system was completely different and workers have more breaks at work. They served milk in bags as a way to be cost-efficient (I worried that the bag might pop at sometimes and it would spill all over). And I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a noticeable Starbucks café in the city I arrived in. Instead, I saw a lot of Tim Hortons cafes.
…OK. Maybe I got a little judgmental and stereotyping, and I might be wrong. So sue me.
However, I was more focused on the upcoming Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex.
For a moment, I thought me and my brother were able to do enough damage that they wouldn't continue to try building more pizzerias. But it seemed that they already have a backup plan and it went out of our hands. We didn't know about this until I had to move out of the country.
When I first caught sight of the advertisement on the newspaper, I was shocked by this. I nearly ripped the paper apart in half, but I needed the information.
I know that I might be overreacting, but I have every right to be suspicious. Freddy Fazbear's hadn't been kind to its customers and employees. Or at least somebody started that cycle. That place was a death trap and it kept spreading across all of America, then more innocent lives would be lost or plunged into madness. I couldn't let that happen.
I didn't have anything to help me. I could sneak in, but there would be security guards and a possibility that the security system would be very tight. I needed a guide to help me.
So here, I arrived at the person who was looking forward to work with me.
Approaching the room door at the very bottom of the apartment – actually a level underground – I knocked on the door and waited patiently. Immediately, the door flung opened and I saw a man a few years younger than me appeared, talking on his phone. There was music playing inside his house probably to keep himself from behind bored. [3]
"Let's not go that yet," he grumbled, receiving a gibberish-like squeal from the phone. "I know. I know. I want to as well, but we are just a protest group. Goodbye."
He turned it off and faced me. A man with tan skin, brown eyes and snow blue hair. He wore a black shirt, a black, white and blue jacket, black jeans and dark blue boots. He raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out who I am.
"Vanessa Breed-Wrisley, am I right?" he said.
"Oswald Graham," I said. "Nice to meet you."
"You look like you haven't grown a day over 30."
I chuckled. "And your hair is growing through the elderly stage."
Oswald rolled his eyes. "Come in. My neighbors don't like it when a stranger is around in this hallway."
I nodded as I let myself in. As I walked in, I found myself entranced by his room. To say that he was always 'successful' in his studies of criminology, coding, law and commerce, then he is the master. Almost the guy who knew everything government-related or in a huge scale terrorist attack. There were medals, golden plates and photos of him graduating at different universities.
Almost all the pictures covered the entire room. All in a straight row across the walls with his face appearing in every single one of them. I felt that he might be trying to show off, but I didn't take that into account. However, there were some pictures that showed different buildings and places, most likely for research.
One wall of pictures contained images of different people. From government figures to politicians to spies to mercenaries to agents. I spotted one of them to be my brother Heywood.
The same face as mine. Except more masculine. He had black hair instead of blonde, but shared the same green eyes as I do. His hair was combed to the back. He was wearing grey clothes like he would always wear on a usual basis.
"You have a photo of my brother?" I said.
"I find some of the best agents and soldiers in the country," said Oswald. "You and Heywood have been subtle, but I manage to connect the pieces. I like what you two did out there."
"Really?"
He shrugged. "At least I didn't call the cops. You blew up that F***-Bear factor like nobody's damn business. Now that is what someone should do to prevent them from hurting people."
I smiled. "Yeah. We did that."
I hadn't seen Heywood in a while. Something happened a year ago. After our first successful destruction. We had been going alright with deactivating or shutting down several robotic factories connected with Fazbear Entertainment. But…I guess all good things must come to an end.
I had to leave Heywood. It was too dangerous for both of us. We were never going to see each other again. As much as I wanted to stay behind for him, he told me to keep on running. Saving people was more than one life. I hated it, but he said it was for the best for the world.
"Vanessa. It doesn't matter if I am seen as the champion. You are one of the greatest people I've ever known. If anyone have the courage to step up first, it is you. It is ALWAYS you who is willing to step up to the challenge. Don't forget that, OK, sister?"
I kept remembering those words he told me when I went out as a spy. He was there for me in the darkest times. Why is he ripped away from my life?
My heart began to pound as I thought about him again. Swallowing my throat, I placed on a brave face and continued to follow Oswald.
"So how was your research so far?" I asked as we entered his office.
"It's been a week ever since we last called," he said. "Took you long to get here."
"Yeah," I said. "Moving to another country is hard. I mean, Canada feels so different compared to home."
"You won't be finding a thing that is not Western," joked Oswald, sitting down on his desk. "That's for sure."
"Anything new?" I said, leaning back on a wall.
"The numbers are complicated. I found many more people who used to work in the night shifts at Freddy Fazbear's and they are happy to help out with us. However, half of them are wiped out mysterious. I can't contact them and nobody else has seen them."
I raised an eyebrow. "Is this connected to Freddy's as well?"
"I'm not sure. There isn't any evidence other than a bear-like figure capturing them and disappearing in the dark. However, the numbers are enough to build an army. Soon, they will be here to help me out on this case. Well, they will be here to see things for themselves and if they can guarantee if the new Pizza Plex is worthy to stay."
I clicked my tongue. "I wonder why they have to build a pizzeria that is just going to serve pizza to them. Why go over to make more attractions and new things? They don't have that much on the menu."
"I checked its website," said Oswald, deadpanned. "They included more items on the menu and that includes an entire pot of cheese fondue with chips in it."
Beat. "Is that a Canadian snack?"
"Without the gravy," grumbled Oswald. "They have ramped things up this time. Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex is probably the largest we've ever seen. Rides, live performances, shops, neon lights and even a laser gun game. They even have the 'audacity' to make the animatronics 'kid-friendly' and 'safe'. That is complete bulls***."
I nodded. "It might be. Though, we only got started. We need to find out more in that place if there is anything sinister."
"It can blow in our face. Whatever you see there, blow it up."
"I can't blow up immediately," I said. "Me and my brother would set up a plan first and then we blow things up."
Oswald nodded, looking disappointed. "Right. I see then. I'm just a little angry at the moment. So, that's why you are here. I need you to get information of the place, so I think you should be employed to be a security guard."
That was the last thing I wanted to hear. A security guard?
"Security guard?" I said, scoffing. "That is way too easy and too easy to be caught."
"But both of us know that they updated their security system," said Oswald. "Through all cameras. Unless you hack into it and delete the unwanted footage. You got to blend in really well if you want to uncover the secrets. And besides, you handled an army of animatronics! I can't really believe how much you have to fight."
"It was all thanks to Heywood," I said to myself.
"Look, Vanessa," said Oswald, standing up. "I just wanna acknowledge how good you are at your job. I know that you have been struggling with doing your own mini business undercover. You hid yourself from everyone else. You didn't reveal yourself to the public. You were alone in that one."
"I can handle myself."
"If you can handle yourself, then I feel like you should have been here to help name the leader. I was the founder. Not the official leader. It's a petition I'm making and there could be anyone who has more greater leadership skills then I do."
"I know the job I have to do," I said. "I will…take the night shift."
"Alright then," said Oswald, giving me a cardboard box. "Inside this crate is all the equipment you need. Large and small communication devices that no one will be able to detect through the air. They are private communication devices and only us know where the connection is coming from."
"So what do I do at the Pizza Plex?" I asked.
"I want you to go there and find out anything discriminating. If you found anything, report them to me. If there is anything else dangerous, report them to me. If anybody dies…" Oswald stopped, noticing the repetition. "Well, you know the picture. I'll sort through the information and see if it is hard evidence for us to shut down the place."
"Are you a lawyer?" I asked. "Because this place is really hard to shut down. They did a lot to make one huge mall."
"I have an army who has the same sense of justice," bragged Oswald. "Our voices would be enough to convince them. And if anything tried to harm you, subdue them. You might take them for me and my team to analyze and observe."
I smacked my lips. "No problem. I'll get the job now. I have a resume back home."
Oswald chuckled, leaning back on his desk. "Take all the time you need! Just make sure to get the night job first." [3s]
I nodded and made my way out of the office. While I was confident about this lawsuit going on – or at least what he told me – I was uncertain of taking the night shifts. Night shifts at Freddy's were the most dangerous of all. Animatronics roaming at night, creepy camera footages that would never be shown on the news and opened springlock suits, waiting for people to get in? That wasn't something I look forward to.
I couldn't help but feel afraid. What if something happened on that night? What if I might get hurt? Would the animatronics be hostile towards me? Or was there another threat going on at the Pizza Plex? Given its reassurance that everything was working indeed, I could have been relieved…but they added in that they weren't responsible for any injuries, so chuck that out of the window.
My heart began to beat again and I was trembling. While I went out at night, being a night security guard wasn't the thing I was looking forward to. It wasn't really right for me. I swore that I would never take a job like that again, but how else was I going to detect the Pizza Plex unsuspected?
I took a deep breath as I went out of Oswald's room.
Hopefully, there wouldn't be other security guards.
"She really forgot that there would be other guards at the mall. Us."
"I think she is just used to being the only single guard in a restaurant that she forgets to know that there were going to be others because of how big the place is."
"And yet, here we are. Found ourselves dragged into this."
"We didn't know that she was a spy at first!"
"Hold on, guys. We haven't explained what happened before opening day. In fact, we haven't reached the part where we MET. Did we?"
"Melody is right. We haven't gone up to that part."
"You mean the night at the restaurant where all three of us were at?"
AN: To be honest, it kind of took me a while to describe what they have in the Mega Pizza Plex. Due to only images and that we don't know the entire map, I was struggling with describing the kinds of rooms there are and adding some of my own ideas. But whatever the case, the Mega Pizza Plex is a HUGE facility and there are so many rooms to be explored.
Melody Aria Song is made by MasterClass60, an alternative human version of Melody. This version of Melody has a lot of similarities to the Trolls!Melody, but as human, she has some differences in her personality. Here, I feel that it leans more to her Rock side as being rash and rough with Melody being confident. I feel that she is more energetic than her Troll counterpart, but keeping in her sweet and polite side. She is also a self-proclaimed vigilante who often tries to fight back at crimes as mentioned in her interview; from kicking ass like no tomorrow and blowing up a truck (unintentionally and unexpectedly, don't ask me how a bowl of spaghetti blew it up, imagination!). Once again, this is similar to Savion in 'Raging Wind' who is reckless, battle-ready and quick to help others in need, though reasons and motives are different in interesting ways. Her voice actor would be Sabrina Carpenter.
Mojo Mohawk makes an appearance here, owned by I.M. Rally (actually from another friend) and I decided to use him as a supporting character for Melody and plays a part in the mystery of this story. For those who are new, he is Melody's girlfriend and looks out for her. However, I feel that he is a little more vain, a little fancy, laid-back and strict in this version compared to his Trolls counterpart. His voice actor would be Benedict Cumberbatch.
Cade Devrim is made by King Halloween. I made friends with King Halloween long ago and he introduced me to Cade Devrim; this is probably his first appearance unless he made appearances already in WattPad. Cade is an interesting character, though there may have been changes to his personality. He is cynical, loony and abrasive, often saying the wrong things at the time. He will have an arc that takes place OUTSIDE the Pizza Plex because...nobody is safe when Fazbear Entertainment is around! This contrasts to Thomas who is aloof, reserved and nice, who goes into a Fazbear facility and discover something he should never visit...and oh, Cade's voice actor would be Ben Schwartz.
Here, we see Vanessa again and Heywood has gone missing. Where did he go? Well...that said...
Oswald Graham is another character made by King Halloween, playing a role in being against the Pizza Plex. For now, he looks polite and decent, but he will have a huge role to this story. This will make it not like a typical Freddy's story you would see.
Oh, what's this? (pretending distress) The animatronics are alive? THE ANIMATRONICS ARE ALIVE?! OH GOD, THE ANIMATRONICS ARE ALIVE! (changes back to normal tone) Ha, ha, ha, I'm kidding you. We all know that they are alive. However, if they are good or evil will be announced when the game comes out. However, I have other plans since I want to try out something new.
