Chapter 4 – Night Rocking and Whispers
Melody's POV, 8 pm
To celebrate my new job, I decided to take Mojo and Cade out for dinner. I booked a table at a restaurant. A small restaurant that was mostly known as a bar for the adults, but I heard the food was very good there. It was nearly late when I arrived, but I could handle myself. I did go out on my own several times.
"You're sure it's just us you want to hang out with tonight?" asked Mojo.
"Yeah," I said coolly, wrapping my arms around the two. "I like hanging around you two. You're like my brothers, don't you think?
"I know that. But why at this place? This is more like a bar since a lot of adults go to this place."
"Well, we are growing up, so let's try to be mature for once."
There was a loud punch inside and a glass shattering.
Mojo glanced at me worriedly.
"We aren't allowed to drink alcohol until 21," muttered Cade. [1]
Entering the restaurant, I told one of the waiters that we had a reservation and they led us to the dining room. It looked like a club room, but there were tables all around. The chairs were mini sofa couches instead of those hard-solid chairs you would see in common restaurants. The walls were painted in gold with interesting designs on them. The tables that were underneath hanging balconies had poles in the middle that held up the balconies above.
The place was already crowded with people and most of them were dancing despite the lack of a performer on the empty stage. Soft house music played with slow flashing headlights all around. There was some chatter, but everybody was just having the time of their lives. The smell of whisky and mint was noticeable.
As we moved through the crowd, Cade grabbed onto my shoulder.
"Hey, Melody," he said. "I meant to tell you something. I was planning to tell you earlier, but talking about it at a Freddy's family entertainment center wouldn't be a smart idea."
"Why not?" I asked.
My mind was in a different place as I spotted some s**t going on at the bar. I spotted one girl moving her chair away from the drunk men. She appeared to be the same age I am, have tan skin and cold silver eyes. Her ivory black hair had silver streaks and tied up in a double Dutch Braid ponytail. She was wearing a pair of red-rimmed sunglasses above her head, a black sleeveless shirt, a light blue denim vest, a red ruby necklace, red ruby bracelets, black fingerless gloves, dark grey jeans and silver sneakers.
Some of the men tried to talk to her, but with a look of disgust, she looked the other way. One burped, causing her to pinch her nose. One man who was dressed to appear prosperous slowly approached her.
"You're feeling lonely, lady?" he asked, hiccupping.
The girl rolled her eyes. "No thank you."
She turned around when the barrister gave her a soda float. Wearing a greedy and lustful face, the man sniggered.
I was thinking of intervening when Cade pulled me to the side, grabbing my face so that my eyes were staring at him.
"Because it's about Freddy Fazbear," he hissed. "The company. What they did."
"Why's that?" I said hastily. "They built a really nice Pizza Plex. You got to admit that they did a lot. And I'm becoming their security night girl, so I have the whole place to myself."
"Yeah. Huge because they are trying to cover up their past."
"You're not relating to what they did in the past, didn't they?"
Cade suddenly screamed when he ducked and the suit-wearing man went flying above him, crashing into an empty table. Since it was just left alone by some customers, his face ended up caked in leftover mash.
It turned out, he was thrown by the girl. She was already fuming, shaking her head before retreating to the bathroom.
Mojo sucked in his breath. "Let's…talk about it at a private table to ourselves."
"Agreed," said Mojo.
The crowd slightly dispersed which made it easier for us to get through and arrive at our table. We were silent as we took our seats. I took the menu and flipped through it, but I wasn't really focusing on the words. I was thinking about what Cade was trying to tell me. About Freddy's.
I never knew Fazbear Entertainment that much, so why did it have to be holding such a conspiracy?
"So, I've heard of rumors of their new center," said Cade, flipping through his menu without looking. "Sketchy ones. And I think they are associating it with what is happening at the Brooklyn location."
"Brooklyn?" I repeated. "In the USA? But that is like 4 days far!"
"I know. But most people don't trust Freddy's to be their night guards. One, the pay isn't that much. Two, the company would try to cover up if they go missing. Three, it's the most horrifying."
"Then what is it?" said Mojo with a note of suspicion.
"You haven't heard the stories?" said Cade, resting his elbows on the table. "From America, people claimed that Freddy and his friends come alive and walk around the pizzeria. Some say that they are having their own free time…while others think that they are actually trying to kill the night guards. To…break free and go outside as killer machines. And stuff humans into suits."
We were silent for a moment. That wasn't what I expected to hear. The new Pizza Plex looked fun. There was nothing bad going on. Nothing looked scary, unsafe or falling apart. It was all fresh and new and stable. Why would anyone think of half-truths that the place might be similar to a Brooklyn restaurant? Surely, there wasn't any disappearance at the Brooklyn location, right?
This suddenly intense moment as this information absorbed into my mind seemed to prompt a waitress to take an opportunity to come over for our order. I hadn't even thought of what I wanted to eat. I quickly looked through the menu again, but my turn came faster than I thought.
"Spicy chicken pizza," I said and the waitress went away.
I closed my menu, turning back to my friends. "Cade. You're saying that some creepy-ass animatronics would try to go after me? They're just robots!"
"KILLER robots," added Cade.
"Oh my gosh," said Mojo. "That reminds me of that movie! What is it called again? Museum Comes…"
"It's 'Night At The Museum'."
"Yeah! It's that movie!"
I was confused. "Night At The Museum?"
"Yeah," said Cade with a look that screamed 'it's obvious'. "You know, those attractions coming to life at night time? Unable to walk outside when it's day? Become nearly hostile to the night guard? You're almost in that situation now!"
I gave him a look. "Do I look like I know what 'Night At The Museum' is?"
"If what Cade said was right," concluded Mojo. "Then there is a likely chance that Melody might be attacked."
Not this again. I rolled my eyes in exasperation of this implication of me being in a vulnerable position.
"Don't pick this the wrong way," I grumbled. "We don't know if those animatronics are going to kill me. And technically, the only suits around are just them."
"Unless SOMEONE changes their programming and force them to go after you," said Cade, pointing his fork at me.
"I know, but don't you think it's crazy for animatronics to just walk off the stage and hold their own birthday party?"
"We may never know what else would happen," said Mojo, nearly cryptically. "But it's too late because you never bother to look up the reviews of the Freddy Fazbear franchise."
I pouted, crossing my arms. "My future husband and his snippy criticism."
"My future wife and her reckless vibes," said Mojo.
"You better be careful there, Melody," said Cade. "What if those animatronics aren't what they seem to be?"
"I'll be fine, guys," I protested. "Don't need to think that I'm made from plastic." [1s]
A bell ringing interrupted our conversation. Normally, nobody would bother to see who was coming in. They would just hang around for a while and then go out, unless they were planning a robbery or crisis. However, I found myself automatically looking up and spotted a familiar face.
It was the same girl I saw before I left Luis' office. The girl with the black hair tied in pigtails and wearing blue glasses. She was among a group of girls – who were wearing dresses, jewelry and make-up – making her look like a sore thumb out of all of them.
"Remind me again," the pigtailed girl complained. "Why are we going to this place? It's not really that good."
The lead girl, a redhead with her hair tied in a ponytail, smirked. "When you go into the stage of being a young adult, you want to try out some adult things. And this is a good place for you to cope."
"How so?" asked one of her friends, a blonde-haired woman.
"Well, you find someone to love and then you kiss them when you're drunk?"
"And what happens if you end up being dumped on the same night?" asked the pigtailed girl.
The redhead shrugged. "Then just toss them out of the window."
The pigtailed girl appeared worried. "Right…wouldn't men do that?"
"Who can't say the girls can't fit the gap?"
A plate of hot pizza was placed right in front of me. The waitress placed down the rest of our orders onto the table. Without thinking, I was the first to start eating. I picked up one slice and stuffed the tip into my mouth. A burst of chili, chicken, cheese and sauce exploded in my mouth.
I saw from the reflection of a hanging mirror on the wall was the same ponytailed girl, staring at me. She had a…very suggestive, amused smirk. That explained a lot. Maybe I should just start making out with Mojo to wipe that smirk off her face.
The pigtailed girl turned to her, disgruntled.
"How's your boyfriend, Cassandra?" she said.
The ponytailed girl – named Cassandra – quickly snapped back to reality. "Well…uh…he's good. Wait a minute. I don't have a boyfriend."
Mojo raised an eyebrow when he saw the group of girls.
"Hold on," he said, a piece of food dropping from his mouth. "I saw that girl heading to the manager's office before you came out back at the Pizza Plex."
"Which one?" asked Cade. "The pretty one or the short one?"
"Hold up," I said, pointing at the pigtailed girl. "It's the one with black hair and the white shirt."
"Is she signing up to be a night guard?" asked Mojo.
"I don't know. She said that she wants to sign up to be in the security team. Her name is…Augustina Cruz."
"Do you know her before?" asked Cade.
I shook my head.
"Considering that the two of you might end up working together for night shifts, maybe talk to her a little more?" suggested Mojo.
There was no need to take the time to think. If she was going to be my partner or just a worker working at the same place, then I should make her feel welcome. Be a supportive companion to her. There is nothing wrong with that. I hoped that she was friendly to others as well.
I smiled. "Why sure then." [2]
The group of girls already sat at a larger table for all nine girls. They started to take their orders, flipping through the menus and telling the waiter what they wanted. Half of them were distracted by their own conversations or looking at their phones without thinking of what they wanted to eat. The pigtailed girl – the one I supposed named Augustina – was stroking her own hair, playing with it.
I knew that I had to be polite or not be too awkward. There are a lot of things you need to do when introducing yourself to a person. Already done that to Luis, so this time, I wouldn't make a fool of myself by accidentally smashing my face in.
I tapped on her shoulder, catching her attention.
Her eyes widened in surprise, immediately recognizing me. "You're that…biker who just got hired at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex."
I nodded. "You are Augustina Cruz, am I right?"
Augustina frowned. "And who are you supposed to be?"
"Melody Aria Song. Lovely to meet you."
The girls surrounding her saw me, all eyes on me. This wasn't what I expected, but I decided not to bother. I learnt how not to care when being watched by others. Especially when it came to 'popular' girls.
"You're the vigilante on the news who kicked criminals' asses!" said Cassandra.
I rolled my eyes, a little embarrassed. "Yeah, yeah. I'm working at the Pizza Plex as well."
A series of gasps from the table.
"Oh really?" said a blue-haired girl.
Augustina shook her head. "I don't know Melody."
"Well, I'm taking the night shift," I said.
"Wait," said a silver-haired girl. "You're working as well?"
"Strange," said Cassandra. "Thought it would be just one night guard and that night guard is Augustina."
Augustina didn't look pleased by this. She wrinkled her nose, adjusting her glasses.
"So?" she said. "I don't think we are going to be assigned to be a team."
"Don't sweat it, sis," I said. "If we work as a team, we would be fine. Maybe we can chat and chill for a while before work tomorrow."
She shook her head. "Uh, hard pass."
She stood up and started walking over to the bar, gently pushing me to the side. I was deflated by this.
"H-Hold on," I said. "C'mon. I think it's best we get to know-"
"Sorry," she said without looking at me. "I plan to work solo."
OK, that didn't go off to a good start. This confused me a little. She was acting critical towards me as if I spat on her shoes. While she didn't have the look of a bratty, rich princess, she definitely had the bossy and aloof type. I turned back to the girls who were patiently waiting for me like birds surrounding their feeder.
"What's her problem?" I said.
"Just give her some slack," said Cassandra, waving her hand. "It takes a while for her to open up to new people."
By the sound of her voice, this girl appeared so familiar like I'd seen her before…but where?
"Oh," I said flatly. "I think I know that kind of personality."
"It gets weird at first," explained Cassandra. "But then later on, she stops being freaky in choosing friends and she will warm up to you."
"You said 'freaky'?" I thought for a while, only to realize I didn't get to ask what their names are. "Do I know you?"
"My name's just Cassandra. Just Cassandra."
"So, who are you and your girl posse?" I asked, waving my hand around the whole table.
A pink-haired girl placed her hand on her chest proudly. "We are the Pretty Girls!"
"What?" said a brown-haired girl. "I thought we call ourselves the Bon Bons!"
"Shut up," snarled Cassandra before looking back at me. "We don't have an official name since we have a truckload of homework to go through."
So they aren't really the popular girl type.
"Right…" I said skeptically.
"And you're her new partner?" asked the blonde-haired girl.
"Well, I'm working for the night shift. That's what I said. So, any idea of why Augustina chose this job as well?"
"She terrorized part of the village and now has to go on community service to clean that up," said Cassandra.
I raised an eyebrow.
"Translation," said the blonde-haired girl. "Augustina needs to pay a teacher some small money. Then, she'll be out of the Pizza Plex once it's over."
"Oh! Right," I said. "But since she might be my partner at work, I think I should make her feel welcome."
"Good luck with that," muttered the silver-haired girl.
Cassandra sighed. "Don't try to get Augustina's feathers ruffled. I've seen that many times before. She doesn't like people who would be mean back at her. If you do something stupid, then no s*** she will try to bite back at you."
I smirked. "I'm just a girl who just wants to look out for others and make cookies for them. There's no way I would turn out that bad."
Before I turned around, it never went without the girls complimenting my looks.
"Where did you get the leather jacket from?" said Cassandra, staring at my collar.
"I bought it when I was 13 years old," I said, raising my arm to show off the spikes.
Cassandra smiled. "I like it."
"I don't," said the blue-haired girl. "It looks really edgy and leather jackets are more for men."
A black-haired girl leaned over to an orange-haired girl, keeping her voice to a whisper. "I bet that Melody wears underwear that are supposed to be for men."
They snickered, amused by this. I groaned, shaking my head. Just what with the stereotypical looks of women these days? It shouldn't even matter what I want to wear and how I want to present myself. Surely everyone wears a leather jacket or masculine clothing…maybe not underpants, but anything!
I decided to make a comeback. "So, stunners. Want to buy my underwear? It's only 100 bucks."
All the girls started laughing at this, nearly not noticing I was being sarcastic. That was until Cassandra and a handful actually stopped to consider it, looking serious in understanding the benefits of wearing my underwear.
I rolled my eyes once again before turning my back and made my way to Augustina.
She was already at the empty bar that was cleared from the drunk customers. The barista gave her a milkshake in which she gladly took, sipping it. I cleared my throat to catch her attention and sat next to her on a chair from her right. The barista asked me, but I waved my hand since I didn't want to drink anything.
Augustina wasn't pleased. "What do you want?"
"I'm just trying to have a friendly chat," I said. "Anything wrong with that?"
"What? I mean, yes, but I just…don't like mixing around with other people."
"And you go around with those girls?"
She shrugged. "They can be obnoxious, but they are my sorority group. I have to follow them since we don't go out by ourselves most of the time."
I rested my arms on the table, looking at Augustina straight in the eye. "Do you trust me to help you with your job? Both of us are working as night guards!"
"I-It's not that I don't like you," she said, pulling her milkshake close to her. "One, you might betray me. Two, you might humiliate me in any way. And three...erm…you might steal my purse!"
That last one was made up.
"And yet, I thought it would be the men who steal ladies' purses."
"Look," said Augustina, turning to me. "I just don't like to put my trust into other people that much. I learnt that a long time ago. I mean, I'm not sure if there are any 'good' people out there. There are, but…it can be hard to find some."
I sighed. I couldn't blame her. I thought back to my times at school except that I was a bystander more than a victim. When you are one of the top girls in class, you would want to stay there and mixing with those lower would spell out the definition of 'imbalance' at high school. Everybody likes to pick on someone based on superficial facts or theories. And if you do anything to stop them, then you become the bait.
I nearly joined a criminal gang made up by misguided students, going too far in harming others than I wanted to. And I understood what my problem was; not doing anything effective to solve the problem.
At the moment, I was talking to a person who appeared to have been hurt too many times.
But I couldn't just refuse interactions with her if the two of us were going to take the night shift.
"I know what you mean," I said. "And I'm sorry to hear about that."
Augustina shook her head. "No, no, no. It's not your fault. It's just…hard."
"Life is long, Augustina," I said. "From what your girl posse told me, you got into university and you're trying to help fund the property for the school. Earning money by getting into this kind of job is not bad. I mean, it's a good thing you're helping somebody out."
She mocked a laugh. "Trust me. Why I have to do so is because I did something stupid and I have to take responsibility of it. You have no part in that."
"But you're saying I can't sympathize with that?" I said.
She took a very long sip on her milkshake. "Why do you want to help out the night shift?"
I knew she was trying to change the subject, but at least she knew what I said.
"As you already know," I said proudly. "I'm a vigilante. I stop a lot of criminals before whenever I see one. I can't just sit back and watch the world pass by. Nothing good will come for those who don't do anything useful. So, to hone my skills, I decided to sign up to be a security guard."
"But security guards aren't that much of a big thing," pointed out Augustina.
"True, but guarding is an active action. Like patrolling an army base or people. This is a starter job I say since I'm not really a police cop or have a degree in criminology."
She took another sip, a delicate sip of her milkshake. "Vigilantes just do what vigilantes do."
I nodded, smiling proudly. She took one look at my face and her expression softened a little.
"Why are you acting nice to me?" she asked.
"It's what I normally do," I said simply. "That's who I am. I'm keen to help others in need."
"You don't have to feel sorry about me."
"No, no, no," I corrected. "I am keen when I saw you walking into the office. There was a hint that you would end up being a security guard as well, so you got me interested."
She raised an eyebrow. "Interested?"
"Not in that type of way," I chuckled. "I do try to mix with other people and make some new friends. I never really have a female friend since I'm not comfortable being around girls back in America. You are quite different from Cassandra and her group."
She stared at me for a while as if she was thinking. Or stunned. Or both at the same time. A nervous yet friendly smile appeared on her face. She took another sip, but it wasn't as loud as the previous ones.
With her milkshake finished, she pushed the cup away. She rested her elbows on the table and placed her chin over her hands.
"I wonder how our jobs will go tomorrow," said Augustina.
"At least they will explain to us at the grand opening," I said.
"Well, no need to buy tickets for tomorrow!"
"Yeah! Workers come in free!"
"Funny thing. Opal told me that I could have the mall to myself. So, do you think we can do whatever we want when nobody's around?"
I chuckled. "I doubt they will allow us. They have cameras all over with live footage."
"Good fact." [2s]
The smile on Augustina's face slowly turned a little sad. "You know…do you…ever wish that you can feel like you are free to do whatever you want? Be the greatest of all time?"
I thought about it. "Sometimes. But…we all are taking a good path on this job, right?"
"I know," said Augustina, rubbing her glasses. "But sometimes, it can get difficult when you ask yourself...'where did my life lead up to this'? You could either be the big man and raise a toast, or you can end up as the most unlucky gal in the world."
I frowned. "Is this about why you took the job?"
"Like I said, I did something stupid. And…look at how that goes down. I just don't understand why I have to pick the short stick. It's really hard trying to live by it without not being what I want to be. You know, not everything goes in my way."
"Have you tried?" I asked.
Augustina laughed sadly. "A couple of times. But you know, they say 'the world doesn't revolve around you'. And sometimes, I think they are right. Most people don't think we are powerful enough to do what we really want in life."
It was at that moment when I was chill, but something about her words got me. It suddenly made the restaurant nearly darker than I thought it would be. A chilling sensation ran through my body and the feeling of helplessness overcame me. This wasn't the first time that happened.
"I feel bad for you, but your ideas…aren't reasonable. Our reasons are more reasonable. I think it's because you're focusing too much on being nice to the 'nice' ones, you never actually think of doing real justice on them."
I get it. Caleb was an asshole, especially to me when I showed my true colors. He didn't have the same mindset as I do on what is fair or unlawful. Back in the criminal gang, we chose to be unfair to everyone we know at school. Hunt the hunter and kick the kicked. It slowly came to me that it didn't feel right and we were just venting out frustration instead of encouraging others to make a safer school environment.
And of course, I couldn't change how I want the country to be. I had this idea that if I could be kinder, then nobody would have to suffer. But, there are still people out there suffering and I couldn't even reach them. Even at a finger length. Caleb might be right. Maybe I couldn't help others by influencing them to be better people in my way.
And Augustina's attitude nearly got the best of her.
I didn't like what she said to me. I was conflicted with doing nothing again or taking action.
"You're a cynic," I muttered under my breath. "Whoever you think I am, there is no way in hell I'm going to back down from a fight, even if I have to get my ass tossed around several times."
Augustina gulped, noticeably upset. "But what if things can get bad at times?"
"Look, girl," I said. "Don't keep thinking about the negatives. If you do, then you're going to crumble down rather than facing what you want to achieve. There are a lot of obstacles, but if you are not going to overcome them, then how are you going to get yourself out of that one?"
She shrugged. "I don't know. It's just every time I try to rise down, then I fall down."
I held onto her hand, a touch of promise. "Then maybe we can fall down together if we do. I want to help."
She gave me a look that resembled a scared puppy. "You really want to?"
I smiled. "Why can you say no to a girl who wants to look out for those around them?"
Maybe I hadn't gone through with her. Since we were at a bar-like restaurant where nobody seemed bothered if I changed the music, I could play things my way. With a cheeky smile, I jumped off my seat and slid towards the jukebox, pressing one of the songs on the touch screen.
- Sweet Melody -
Snapping my fingers, the bass rumbled in beat from the jukebox. At the right key of C major. I smirked as I pulled Augustina from her seat, preparing her to show her what I mean. The song started off with the bass beating added with a steady drumline as I began singing.
Melody: The world is a crazy place and it can drive you mad.
And there are times we feel our worst, it makes us sad.
But deep in the dark, there'll always be a light.
It'll guide us through the darkest fight.
Augustina appeared confused, but she was intrigued with the song. She watched with nearly admiration as I told her the story.
Melody: We may be different, inside we're the same.
We share the same mindset, play the same game.
When you need a helping hand to get back on track.
Just give this girl a call because Ol' Mel's got your back!
We got to the fun part as I started to rap. I grabbed her hand and the two of us began to run through the dancing crowd. Red and pink spotlights shone all over the place.
Melody: Hey, all you people, from far and near!
Come watch this spectacle right here!
It's Melody, and as you can see.
Spreading rhymes like we spread joyful cheers!
Chillin' with my bestie, no hesitancy
If others try to rough us, send them back to residency
We'll fight together through any kind of weather.
Now, jump around and shout "What's up"?!
I jumped up onto an empty table with a pole as the chorus kicked in. As a marching drumline, retro synths and electric guitar riffs played, I began to dance, tap-dancing across the way.
Melody: I can be the one tonight
The one who can hold you tight
Like a sweet symphony
Like a sweet melody
Augustina watched along, her eyes were nearly sparkling.
Melody: Don't think of me otherwise
Cause I can provide what is right
Like a sweet symphony
If you ask me to be one, I'll be the melody
I spun around on the pole and jumped down, landing next to Augustina. There was a short instrumental interval as I waited for her approval. She smiled a little, albeit anxiously. At least that was a sign that she saw the picture.
I smiled as I pulled her around the colorful bar, singing the next verse.
Melody: It may seem scary, deep down you might feel fear.
Don't be afraid 'cause I'll be right here.
When we work together, we can conquer anything.
Just stick with me, imagine all the fun we can bring!
We arrived at the table where Cassandra and her girl posse were sitting. I jumped up, making them notice me as I danced around.
Melody: We may be different, inside we're the same!
Backed up in a corner, call me up! Shout my name!
I'll jump right in to help you, or give some baddies a good ol' whack.
You can always rely on Melody to watch your back!
I'll admit that I didn't think this through when standing on the table with the cutlery still there. Some of the girls had to move the plates, forks, spoons and tissues away before I stepped on them, shuffling them around to the rhythm of the song.
Melody: Hey, all you people, from far and near!
Come watch this spectacle right here!
It's Melody, and as you can see.
Spreading rhymes like we spread joyful cheers!
Seeing a waiter coming to them with a tray of colorful drinks, I hopped down and threw the tray upwards. All the drinks landed on the table perfectly without a single drop spilling, in front of the girls.
Melody: Chillin' with my bestie, no hesitancy
If others try to rough us, send them back to residency
We'll fight together through any kind of weather.
Now, jump around and shout "What's up"?!
I grabbed onto Augustina's hand and we ran through the restaurant once again, heading to the dance floor.
Melody: I can be the one tonight
The one who can hold you tight
Like a sweet symphony
Like a sweet melody
Don't think of me otherwise
Cause I can provide what is right
Like a sweet symphony
If you ask me to be one, I'll be the melody
We finally arrived at the dance floor. The squared tile floor flashed rainbow colors as spotlights shone all over and people danced around us, not noticing us. As Augustina quickly got herself balanced from falling down, I danced around as the beating drumline played in the background of my rap.
Melody: Hey, all you people, from far and near!
Come watch this spectacle right here!
It's Melody, and as you can see.
Spreading rhymes like we spread joyful cheers!
Augustina was charmed by the song. She smiled and wiggled a little as if wanting to dance along. That was a good thing. I smiled as I grabbed her hand and spun her around.
Melody: Chillin' with my bestie, no hesitancy
If others try to rough us, send them back to residency
We'll fight together through any kind of weather.
Now, jump around and shout "What's up"?!
I sang the chorus one more time as I draped my leather jacket onto Augustina for her to wear. This time, she started to dance along with me. I found the two of us dancing together with the same moves and the right footsteps on this sensational dance floor.
Melody: I can be the one tonight
The one who can hold you tight
Like a sweet symphony
Like a sweet melody
Augustina was already taking delight in the song as she spun and jumped around. I smiled. Now that was what I was aiming for. We were already a great team and nobody should say otherwise.
Melody: Don't think of me otherwise
Cause I can provide what is right
Like a sweet symphony
Augustina was so into the song that she accidentally tripped over her own feet, spinning around. As the music stopped, I grabbed her hand just in time to sing the last words.
Melody: If you ask me to be one, I'll be the melody.
With the song concluded, Augustina panted from all the hard effort she suddenly did. She laughed a little, brushing some hair out of her face. I smiled, rolling around my shoulders.
- End of Song -
"So?" I said. "Did I sway you?"
"I must say," she said. "I wonder when you rehearsed this. Can you predict the future?"
I smirked. "I don't have visions. I just love music."
"You did a lot to get me there."
I shrugged as I took her back to the dining area. "In all seriousness, I was just hoping that you can trust me. I know that you're uncomfortable with what you are doing, but…I really do want to be a good teammate until you finish your job. I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable at the start."
Augustina stared at me for a while. She let her glasses down to show her dark brown eyes. I felt her nearly looking into my soul. It was a brief moment, but I felt something connecting us. I swore I heard something whispering in the back of my head. Something that was chaining our hands together.
"Stay…the…course…"
Even though I tried to look calm, I shivered a little at the sound of the whispers from nowhere.
"Stay…the…course…"
Augustina even appeared aware. She looked around to see who said it, but there was…nobody.
She finally looked back at me and the two of us shrugged the whispers off like they were nothing.
"Look, I don't know you that much on a personal level," she said. "But since you are being fair…I can see it in your eyes this time…then I'll be more than happy to be your partner."
I smiled. It nearly reached my eyes.
"But just to let you know," said Augustina, sternly. "If anything, I won't hesitate. Understand?"
She was trying to intimidate me. I grinned, trying to take it seriously.
"Yes, sir," I said.
"OI!" shouted Cade from afar. "Your dinner is about to go cold! You're eating or are you leaving that to us?"
Oops. I forgot that I was meant to eat dinner when my stomach was already empty and growling. A pain shot through my body. With a sheepish laugh, I ran back to my table with Augustina surprisingly following me. Mojo and Cade were giving me looks, appearing impatient for being away for too long.
"Sorry, guys," I said, picking up one of the pizza slices. "Got a little carried away."
Augustina stared at the red-hot pizza, curious. "May I try one?"
"Careful," said Mojo.
She gingerly picked up one slice and made a huge bite on the side of it. The minute it touched her tongue, her cheeks went red and puffy. Her eyes widened and I could nearly see steam coming out from her ears.
"It's so hot," she squeaked.
I chuckled a little. "I know. Not used to hot food?"
"Not really."
I shrugged as I ate the remainder of my slice. "You probably have to get used to it."
AN: Melody has managed to catch Augustina's trust and it seems that a friendship is going to happen soon! With how it is going to be, it will be an interesting take as in this story, both of them are near contrasts and they will have their own character development. Augustina has hers now and Melody's...oh, you'll be surprised!
As this takes place before 'Raging Wind', the tragedy and mysteries of Freddy Fazbear's haven't been solved yet, and the rumors have spread all over America. However, not every has heard about them yet and Melody acts as another character who is new to the upcoming madness, but it may not be what everything seems...at first.
The girls b***hing about Melody's underpants is a reference to an episode from The Big Bang Theory.
Augustina and Melody talking with each other takes some inspirations from Harley Quinn and Black Canary talking at a bar together in the Birds of Prey movie.
And what is that mysterious voice that both Augustina and Melody hears? 'Stay the course'. The quote from FNAF VR: Help Wanted. Now...where is that coming from?
The second song 'Sweet Melody' would be described as a pop rock and pop rap song, inspired by ME! by Taylor Swift feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco and Want U Back by Cher Lloyd. It is cheerful, upbeat, and serves as the imagery and sound of MasterClass60's Trolls stories. My try on taking on theme of true companions. If this is a song made, you would truly want to dance along. Admit it. Credits to MasterClass20 on helping me with me this song as she helped wrote the verses and the rap.
Wait a minute, who is that girl with the braided hair...? We'll come back to that in the next chapter.
