"Well I kind of figured we'd go together..as friends of course" Harry stated nervously, his shoes becoming ever so more interesting.
"Holy shit, why didn't I think of that!" Hermione said begrudgingly, feeling like a total moron. "I asked Cormack to go to the party with me instead. I was going to go with Ron, but you know, his plans changed very recently!".
"Really?! Cormack?" Harry asked.
"Yeah I know he's a dick, and a total pervert. But he's the only person who wasn't busy, though he's never busy" Hermione said quietly.
"Well anyway, good luck with Cormack.." Harry reluctantly trailed off, wanting to get onto a different topic as quickly as possible.
"So, who are you taking to the Slug Club Christmas party then?" Hermione asked, reading his thoughts immediately.
"Well I'll definitely have to choose someone I like... someone cool!" Harry replied. Only one person popped immediately in his head, Luna Lovegood.
The next day after his last class, Harry decided to skip dinner and take a walk. After giving Ron and Hermione a lame excuse about a stomach ache, he headed outside. The fresh air filled his lungs and immediately it calmed his nerves.
Nerves! Of course he had nerves. After all it was Luna Lovegood he was asking out, and he secretly, okay maybe not so incredibly secretly, had a major crush on her. Basically every time she was near his heart kind of did a weird flip flop, and his head pounded crazily.
Especially since at first he thought it was just a simple crush, like what he previously had with Cho Chang. Though after over two years of knowing the most extraordinary witch that is Luna; he realized it had turned into far more than a mere crush...
Just then he bumped into the short witch that had been taking over most of his recent thoughts. "Sorry for bumping into you, Luna" Harry apologized immediately.
"Oh hello Harry! It's perfectly alright, how've you been?" Luna asked in her mild, airy tone.
"Umm..good I guess, you?" he answered and in turn asking the question as well.
"Exceptionally ordinary!" the blonde said, smiling up at him.
"Is there something you need to tell me Harry, you look most troubled?" Luna said out of the blue, and lightly grasped his hand to give him some sort of comfort; the same as she did after Sirius had died only the previous year.
"Uhh well actually... I was wondering if you might want to go Slughorn's Christmas Party with me? As friends?" Harry wondered nervously.
"Really!? I'd love to go with you, I've never been to a party as friends before" Luna beamed up at him. Though they had quite a height different between them, Luna gave him a somewhat awkward hug.
"Sorry Harry, but I must be going now. I'm looking for moon frogs, and its quite urgent I find them, its for my Magical Creatures assignment" Luna said and slipped back on her spectrespecks as she skipped away in her unusual, but graceful manner.
Harry found the way she always walked to be extremely cute, which made him have a little smirk on his face just thinking about it. Maybe he actually might enjoy Slughorn's party, now that he had someone to talk too...
The next day was the party and Harry's stomach was in knots. He barely even managed to eat a piece of toast, and watching Ron practically scarf down his food, made him loose his appetite even more.
"Umm I'll see you guys later, don't want to be late for Potions Class" Harry muttered to Hermione and Ron and stood up, starting to walk away from the Great Hall.
"Mind if I join you Harry?" Hermione asked, striding right next to him.
"Alright, come on then" Harry nodded his head and agreed.
They walked in silence for a few minutes before Hermione decided to break the ice.
"You never told me who you were taking" Hermione said out of the blue, putting Harry purely off guard.
"Ohhhh...well it's Luna..." Harry trailed off.
"Always knew you had a type, Harry!" the brunette smirked at him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Harry stated trying to be serious but still cracking a slight smile.
"Ohh...nothing" Hermione waved off, completely done with Harry's clueless nature.
And as soon as Hermione said that, they reached the potions classroom. Harry going inside the damp room of the dungeons first, Hermione following in suit.
It was only an hour until Harry would meet Luna in the corridor leading to Slughorn's office. And Luna, was well, nervous to say the least. The Ravenclaw never had gotten nervous about most things before, especially things involving Harry.
But ever since the beginning of the year, Luna now thought of Harry as...more than friends. At first she thought it was immense admiration that she'd always held for him, but slowly she came to realize that it was no mere admiration.
Luna Lovegood had a crush on Harry Potter, and that's how it would stay. A crush. She knew there was no possible way he could ever reciprocate her feelings for him, and decided to stick with deep admiration.
As she finally put on the last of her light makeup and clear lipgloss, she knew she was ready to take on the night. She cheerfully skipped her way to the corridor Harry had told her to go too, and waited for him.
Not only five minutes later, while the blonde was staring at the walls looking for creatures that might live there, Harry silently walked up beside her.
"Oh hello Harry" Luna said calmly, finally realizing he was there.
"Hi Luna" Harry returned, taking in her appearance fully. "You look... beautiful by the way".
Luna couldn't help the slight blush that crept onto her cheeks as he said that. "And so do you" Luna answered back, smiling up at him.
They just simply stared at each other a few seconds, to long to seem innocent. Harry was the first to look away. 'Shit, shit, shit! That was way to obvious' he thought.
Harry cleared his throat and said, "Suppose we should...get going then".
"Yes, I suppose" Luna agreed as they linked arms, walking to Slughorn's office.
The party was...boring to say the least. If it wasn't for Luna being there, it would've been even bigger of a bore. With her eccentric personality, everyone mainly stayed away from a deep conversation; which gave Harry and Luna an excellent opportunity to catch up since the beginning of the school year. Suddenly Luna asked Harry to dance with her.
"I..ermm, yes I'll dance with you" Harry muttered, his heart racing like mad.
Luna nodded and they started doing the waltz, same as everyone else dancing. The close proximity between them made Harry blush furiously, but Luna couldn't detect it; do to the dark lighting on the dance floor. Finally, after what felt like eons, the dance was over and with it the party ended.
"Um Luna, guess we should head back to our dorms?" Harry questioned.
"Yes I suppose we should. Would you mind walking me back?" Luna asked calmly.
"Of course!" Harry smiled at her.
After twenty minutes of all silence, they finally reached the Ravenclaw entrance door.
"Umm...I guess good night then, Luna" Harry said quietly, staring at her intently.
"Oh yes, definitely I should be going now, before the nargles catch up to us" she stated almost warily.
All of a sudden a sprig of mistletoe dangled down right in front of their faces.
"Oh bugger!!" Luna said annoyed, and staring at the mistletoe. "They've already found us, I'm sorry Harry".
"How could they've possibly found us?".
"With the mistletoe! They've probably already started making us loose our voluntary consciousness as we speak!" Luna ranted hysterically.
"Ohhhh..." Harry trailed off. "Though I don't think nargles could affect us by being under the mistletoe".
"Maybe we should investigate it, then. To test your theory that they don't affect being under the mistletoe" Luna whispered suddenly, moving a little bit closer to Harry.
"And how do you suppose we do that?" Harry looked down at her; her eyes shining like the myriads of stars in the sky.
"We kiss" Luna breathed and leaned in, kissing him so softly it was almost like air. She pulled away slowly, her cheeks burning with sudden embarrassment.
"Umm...I suppose that nargles theory was correct. In fact, I feel exactly the same as before" the Gryffindor stated confidently, biting his lower lip.
"Yes your theory seems absolutely correct. Suppose I should be going inside now" Luna said waving at him as she stepped through the door, still very much embarrassed.
"Goodnight then, Luna" Harry said as he began walking back in the direction of the Gryffindor dorm room.
"Goodnight Harry".
