"From the ashes of chaos did The Sanguine King rise,

Tempering the raging infernos of Hell to His whim."

-The Bloodsoaked Manuscripts, Prologue 4-Alpha

Every demon in Hell, young or old, mortal or forged of flame, knew of The Last Extermination. It was taught in every center of learning; the defeat of the Angelic forces by The Sanguine King was beyond common knowledge. The fight had transcended to mysticism, to folklore. Such time had passed since the great explosion that impaled Heaven with its own weapons that the events were skewed and stretched into legends. Therefore, it is reasonable to call The Sanguine King himself a living legend.

In the decades following the battle, a tenuous truce was forged between Heaven and Hell. Perhaps the angels respected our King for his determination to succeed; perhaps they feared him as much as they loathed him. It hardly mattered their reasons. The King himself was the ambassador to the Heavens, and with his iron will a new era of prosperity entered the Underworld. He saw fit to restructure society. The Royals and Overlords of yore were henceforth banished to dungeons and imprisonment; that is, those that still remained. The Radio Demon and The Television Overlord were both slain at the King's hands, while the Magne Royals had gone into hiding, save for their daughter, who worked with the King to ensure peace. The Sanguine King indeed attempted to refuse the title, insisting that the monarchy was finished. Yet change takes time, and in the absence of leadership he was chosen to rule.

Yes, lead he did. The chaos and violence of Hell was tempered by his command. In his magnanimous kindness The Sanguine King organized Hell, reformatting the economy and promoting those worthy. Education was pushed to the forefront of society, with lessons prepared by Princess Magne and her partner, known to all as the Becrossed Moth. Together, under the rule of the King, demons learned to renounce their misdoings in order to improve Hell. Likewise was all things sinful laid bare, yet rather than banish them altogether, the King chose to structure them in such a way as to compartmentalize, for such is his understanding of the balance of the soul. These sections of sin and vice were placed under two subordinates: the Great Gambler and the Svelte Arachnid Lord. They rule still with understanding under The Sanguine King's gaze.

And so did the King and his court of friends lead Hell into an era of tranquility. Yet nothing is permanent, and in recent years the King has become more reclusive, spending the majority of his time with his ally The Inventor. Whispers among the less faithful believe him to be losing his sanity, but these concerns are kept in silence, for while the King may lose his grip on reality, his hands still contain the power of a burning rage.

We convene now at the days before a new age. An age in which the Void is revealed in all its hideous grandeur, and The Sanguine King is forced once more to battle, this time alongside a being of rage, for the fate of all realities.
