A/N Hello dear reader, just a little heads up. This is an alternate account for PrincessEmmylee. So if these stories seem familiar, that's because I cannot get into my account and I'm working on the issue and I apologize for the confusion this may have caused. Once (If) everything returns to normal, the stories and all-new chapters will be sent over there.
Kaneki was well aware of the eyes watching his every move. The snow fell silently around him. He didn't care about the helicopters flying directly above him, as he moved through the silent street. The harsh, frigid wind brushed against him, stinging his face, freezing the tears that were sliding down his pale cheeks. He knew what was waiting for him at the end of his journey and still, the only one thing mattered to the ghoul.
He glanced down at the semi-conscious form in his arms. Hide's breathing was shallow, coming in short gasps and Kaneki knew he didn't have much time.
"It's going to be okay, Hide."He promised softly. "We're going home now, just hold on a little longer. I'm sorry you got pulled into this and I wasn't there to stop this. " A tear fell on the blond's cheek, causing Hide to groan almost inaudibly. Kaneki stopped in front of a group of CCG agents who immediately drew their weapons. He again turned to Hide.
"You've always been there for me, through everything. You've been my best friend, my protector, always shielding me from things when it got too hard. I'll always be grateful for everything you've done. I don't have much to give you in return, but I can give you this chance to live. I know I have no right to ask any more of you, but please, Hide, just one last favor. Just...stay alive, okay?"The ghoul pleaded, slowly sinking to his knees in the newly fallen snow. He pressed his lips to Hide's forehead. "I love you, so much," he whispered, brushing back a few strands of hair from his friend's face. He gently laid Hide on the ground and stood to face the doves. He took a step back from his friend.
"He doesn't have much time," Kaneki called out. "Please, he needs to get to a hospital."
"How the hell do we even know he's alive, I don't see him moving around." A silver-haired man questioned, his hands trembling. Kaneki could see the man had sustained minor injuries and was obviously shaken by the night's events.
"You wouldn't if he's unconscious, would you? I don't blame you for not trusting me. But you'll just have to take that chance. Too many lives have been lost already, don't you agree, this can be prevented." no one moved, Kaneki drew in a breath.
"I won't fight you." He said. "But he does need a doctor."
"Like you said, Eye Patch, how the hell can we trust you?" another investigator shouted angrily.
"I'm willing to make a trade. My life, in exchange for saving his. "Get him to the hospital and do whatever you want with me." The group stood, puzzled by the proposition.
"Aizawa, Ide, go over there and get Nagachika," Amon ordered weakly from the stretcher as he was being placed in the ambulance. "Radio the medevac chopper."
"But Sir, Eye Patch-"
"Go. He can be useful to us. He saved some of us tonight, we owe him at least this." The two men started forward anxiously. A tall blonde woman hurried to the radio and began the call for help. He watched as Hide was strapped to a stretcher, given oxygen, and placed in the helicopter. He felt a sense of relief as Hide began his journey. The woman approached cautiously, her quinque pointed at his chest. Behind her, Kaneki briefly met Amon's eyes, and just before the doors to the vehicle closed, both offered the other a short nod of gratitude.
Kaneki didn't know how much time had passed since the raid. Amon had arranged for him to be taken to a holding cell, where he remained with no word on Hide's condition. He spent most of his days alone for the most part. He stared up at the gray ceiling through blurry eyes. He knew his fever had spiked again, his stomach churned and ached along with the rest of his body.
He couldn't recall ever feeling so ill. A chill passed through him. The last of his strength was rapidly draining from his body and heavy fatigue set in. Kaneki curled up on his side on the metal bed. His stomach spasmed painfully, causing his entire body to tremble. The room was dimming around him and the intense pain made it impossible to focus and powerless to fight it.
"Kaneki!" he heard his name faintly as if it was coming from a distance away, but he couldn't reply as his entire body tensed, unable to stop himself from falling into the darkness.
