Once upon a time,
There was an English couple, Alan and Hilary, who met in London, and fell in love. They got married, and Hilary carried with her, the whole day, a beautiful bouquet of flowers; only of lilies and roses.
A couple of years went by, and Hilary gave birth to their first child; a girl. They named her Lily, after the lilies in her mother's wedding bouquet.
When Lily was four-years-old, Alan was assigned a new job as a lawyer in New York City, America. Accepting the job, Alan, Hilary, and Lily had their move out of London. Despite being mostly foggy and rainy nearly everyday, Lily was quite sad to be leaving London. But yet, she mostly looked forward to seeing what America would be like.
Indeed, America was just as Lily imagined it to be. The weather was sunny, all the time, all the people there were extremely nice, and there were such lovely places for Lily and her parents to visit. Central Park was Lily's personal favorite place to hang out. They lived in a nice red narrow apartment building, which was not too far from Central Park. Alan and Hilary would take Lily to Central Park as much as she pleased.
Lily would normally have to go to Central Park with her parents. Whenever they weren't very busy with work, which was currently going on at that time. Hilary had just got hired as a businesswoman for open houses. But still, she and Alan tried as much as they could to be with their daughter.
Normally, most English people would be asked to leave America, since they were not exactly legal citizens. Luckily, that didn't happen for Lily and her parents. Because, when Lily was five-years-old, Hilary discovered she was pregnant again. Sooner or later, she gave birth to their second child; a boy. Gus. Thanks to his birth, Alan, Hilary, and Lily did not have to get deported and were allowed to stay in America.
However, Gus was not always the sweet normal child he used to be, and grew into such a brat. He disliked people telling him what to do, when he prefers to do his own things. He barely even listened to Lily most of the time. Usually, because he thought since she was older than him, that she could boss him around, which was not true. Lily only wanted to help her little brother, only to be rejected all the time. Gus mostly enjoyed playing with a toy sailboat that Alan gave him for his birthday one year, and since then, had become very obsessed with it. Lily would ask if she could join him on sailing his boat in Central Park, but Gus refused, telling her only he and Alan could touch and sail his boat.
A couple more years later, Hilary gave birth to their third child and second daughter, Rosie. Named after the roses in Hilary's wedding bouquet. Rosie, still being a toddler, could crawl and walk, and could only say a few words here or there. Lily bonded with Rosie, almost immediately, since the moment Alan and Hilary brought her home from the hospital that day. Now that Gus had a younger sibling of his own, he would be very bossy towards Rosie, even if it didn't work that way in their house. Probably just jealous from the attention Rosie was receiving at that time. But Lily always supported him, as she took care of Rosie at the same time.
Even before then, Lily had no success on making new friends as she grew older. Being the new girl in school, none of the kids seemed to befriend her. Mostly, because she seemed different than them. Not only because she was English. But for some reasons of her own, which she never told anyone about. Not even her parents. But now, with her younger siblings by her side, Lily had given up on making new friends in school. She considered Gus and Rosie the two best friends she could ever have, believing "it is your brother and/or sister who is your bestest friend than anyone else."
Lily was close to growing up to a girl coming of age. However, she still kept her childhood personality as she matured. She also wished that Gus would have some imagination of his own. But he stated that he was "too grown up" for a boy his age, and that "dreams were silly." But that didn't stop Lily from her own dreams. Although she was a preteen, she had always kept her mind of imagination with her. She even considered that she was old enough to babysit Gus and Rosie herself. But her parents declined, still viewing her "too young" to handle things on her own, much to her dismay.
What Lily dreamed, more than anything else she could ever ask for, was to view the world in her own way; where everyone was kind to each other, whether they were American or English or etc., where everyday would be bright and sunny, and where flowers would bloom everywhere. Especially her possible belief of the existence of mythical creatures; such as giants, to dragons, to unicorns, to fairies, to leprechauns, and to trolls.
Because one day, Lily, Gus, and Rosie actually got to meet a real life troll in Central Park, when they were supposed to stay home with their babysitter.
Let me tell you about it...
