Life was perfect. I had a peaceful life in Rivira with my wife and child, and all of my mercenary team lived here with me. Nothing was going wrong. That's how I know it was a dream and a pretty boring one at that. Shit wasn't hitting the fan, and I wasn't being pulled out to do emergency missions in the dungeon. I never heard any voices in my head. It seemed too good to be true because it was. Every day started with breakfast with my family and dinner with my team. As nice as it was I knew it was fake, which made every day hurt more than the last. Anytime I felt hurt I found myself on the wall around Orario, just staring at the sun. It was peaceful and it reminded me of a better time. A sudden gust of wind occurred and I felt a warm hand on my shoulder.
"Al, if you don't hurry up, we'll miss dinner and Celdia has a reservation at the Friður downtown. Supposedly it's super good." I snapped on my trance and turned around to see my wife Aria and my daughter Ais, standing beside me. Like always, she was fucking beautiful. Her shimmering golden eyes and matching hair contrasted perfectly with her pale complexion and sleek body. She donned a white dress that never seemed to get dirty. Also, unknown to most, she had a scar that ran the length of her torso. It was my greatest shame. Ais much like her momma had the same golden eyes and hair and was wearing the same white dress, albeit much smaller.
"I know, I know, I just had to think for a moment, darling. Thank you for indulging me". I said while running my hands through Aria's hair. She smiled and nodded in response.
"Papa, why do you come here so much". Ais said, her voice booming through the silence.
"It's just a good place to think,ਮੇਰਾ ਬੱਚਾ(My child). It's very calming". Ais took a moment to admire the scenery. "Let's get going shall we". They both nodded in affirmation. Before we could do anything, a shiver ran down my spine forcing me back into a fighting stance with my back towards my family. A 'fuck' escaped my lips as I saw what had caused such a reaction. Orario was on fire. Every building was nothing but piles of rubble littering what was once a decent-looking city. Purple flames plagued the metropolis and the smell infiltrated my senses. It was almost overpowering. I heard a gasp from behind me, and when I turned I saw Aria on the ground on her hands and knees. Blood was leaking from her eyes and torso. Ais was nowhere to be seen.
I tried to reach out to help Aria but before my hand could touch her, a gigantic black crack appeared in the space between us. The crack continued to spread into the skyline, growing and branching. Then I realized something. It was a crack in reality. I was about to be freed from this dream, and who knows what was going to happen after that. A tear escaped as I said my goodbyes to this perfect life, then reality shattered and everything went black.
Present Day
I awoke, still wrapped in darkness, laid out on a cold dirt floor. My golden eyes quickly adjusted to the light and I realized I was in the dungeon, around floor 90. 'How the hell did I get here?' I thought, standing up and getting my bearings. That's when the memories flooded back. The dungeon screaming, my city in flames, my team dead. Stumbling a bit, I felt something else coming back: My anger, my rage, my hate. It came back full force and I knew who to direct it to.
"Ouranos" I growled balling my fists, feeling the anger surge through me"
"Now Albert, that's no way to treat a friend". I sighed, hoping to never have to hear that voice again. "Do you remember all he did Sean. The reason you can forgive him is that your just a voice in my head, and you don't have to deal with him."
"Come on Albert" a different voice boomed inside my head "back in Tenkai Ouranos was a real friend to me. Maybe he didn't know what was coming".
"Everybody that doesn't have a body just shut the fuck up. I need to focus". The voices died down to let me think. Everything about me was the same as it was then. My black hair was the same length, I was still wearing the same black flannel and pants. The only thing missing was the twin swords I wore on my left, though I did have my two knives, one in a sheath on my right, the other in a sheath on my ankle on the left leg. Almost everything was the same as if I was frozen until now. Frozen. I let out a very deep sigh.
"Celdia. She fucking froze me. Then that means, the dragon won. Fuck, I got to remedy this. Tempest, Ar mise(To me). Suddenly all air in the vicinity rushed to me engulfing me in a familiar warm feeling. "I'm coming for you darling," I said. The ground broke and cracked as I pushed off, hurtling towards the staircase to get me out of this dungeon.
Floor 37
A group of adventures were trekking through the floor. A group of five: A dark elf, a dwarf, two humans, and a werewolf. The dark elf, Dauður, noticed something was up.
"There are no monsters spawning," she said. The rest of the group nodded and grumbled in affirmation. "What the hell is going on." Footsteps started to echo in the hall, as the group got into a defensive position. From the darkness emerged a man with black hair and golden eyes. He wore a black flannel unbuttoned so it showed the impressive amount of scars that littered his torso. The sleeves were also rolled up, exposing a tattoo of a wolf's head on his right arm. He had no visible weapons on him and emitted no presence, which surprised the group.
"Oi" the dwarf, named Pu, said "who the hell are you? Are you the reason there ain't no monsters?
"Of course, the dungeon knows better than to fuck with me". The man said, still walking towards the group.
"Yo Dauður, don't you think Goddess would like someone like this." the Werewolf said. Dauður smiled.
"Boy, you are coming with us. Willingly or not, is up to you" she said, resting her hand on the hilt of her shamshir. Now, are you going to come with us or not?." The man just snorted and kept advancing. That was all the answer the group needed.
Drawing her shamshir, Dauður rushed towards the man, hoping to blitz him with her level five speed. Stopping in front of him, she swung up trying to get him to dodge back into an attack from her team, but he just leaned back and the sword missed his face completely. The dark elf knew it was over then. Faster than anyone in the group could register the man swung, swiping her head off her shoulders sending it flying towards the wall, where it exploded on contact.
"Holy shit" one of the humans yelled, jumping back and shooting a few arrows in rapid succession. None of the arrows hit, as they all broke before they hit the man, like hitting an invisible wall. The last arrow, however, was caught by the killer. Pu yelled out a battle cry drawing his massive battle-ax and approaching the enemy. The dwarf didn't get to do anything, because before him, and embedded the arrow into his skull, lodging it deep within his brain. Pu let out a final gasp and fell, dropping his ax which was caught by the man. Catching movement in his peripheral, the man looked up seeing the werewolf flying towards him prepared to avenge his fallen comrades. One swing of the ax ended this notion as the warrior's body was cleaved in two.
The two remaining members were paralyzed with fear, and they both got the feeling they weren't going to make it out of here. One of them never even drew his weapon. He was useless as the man walked up to him slowly and raised both his hands, swinging them towards each other crushing the young soldier's head in the middle. The killer turned his head towards the last remaining member, the archer. No longer paralyzed she sent arrow after arrow towards the man, none of which connected. Then, she ran out. She was powerless as the man who just clapped her whole squad approached her and drew a knife from his sheath. The hilt and blade were black as night as if she was looking into a void. It was shoved through her eye as the man finally finished off the squad of first-class adventurers. It took less than a minute.
Albert's POV
As soon as I removed the knife from the woman's eye and she dropped to the floor, I knew an argument was coming.
"What the fuck Albert? You didn't have to kill them."
"For Once, I agree with Sean. You should've just flexed your presence and they would've backed off.
"They threatened me, so I showed them what I was about. End of story." I said slightly annoyed. Searching the woman's body I found an emblem on the armor she was wearing. It showed a woman with a winged cap. "Does that look familiar to you Guan Yu?"
"Yes, that is a Valkyrie, the symbol of Freya. Back in Tenkai, she was almost as manipulative as Hela. Good fuck though."
"It had to be a Goddess of beauty didn't it," I growled, unable to hold in my anger, thinking of another goddess of beauty.
"Calm down, she seemed to be more mature than Aphrodite, I doubt she would use her charm to enslave people like that. I also doubt Ouranos would allow that."
"Only one way to find out," I said, continuing towards the exit of the dungeon. The rest of the dungeon was boring. I went especially fast past floor 18, not wanting to see what had happened to my city because I knew it was not good. Eventually, after about a week, I made it to floor one. As fresh daylight hit my eyes for the first time in who knows how long, as the sight of this bustling city came into my vision, I only had one thought on my mind.
"I really need a fucking shower".
