Chapter 1- prologue
Hi, Rio fans. I am back with the sequel to Rio 1 and a half. Please note that the first few chapters and perhaps some other scenes are recycled from of the previous Into the Amazon version. Otherwise, the plotline from a certain point on will be different. Anyway, off we go...
Almost three years have passed since the second group of smugglers and their dogs had been caught and imprisoned. The trio of blue macaws who had been the pets and companions of a human named Matthew and his mother May and father Brendan in London, the United Kingdom; Aurora the Spix macaw and her two glaucous 'cousins', Sirius and his sister Bellatrix, had begun an entirely new chapter of their lives in Rio, Brazil: parenthood with all three of them having mates and chicks. Aurora had paired up with a handsome male Spix macaw from the Amazon, Zephyr. Aurora and Zephyr's pairing had been assisted by Tulio and his team based on their goal of establishing a second breeding pair of Spix macaws to add more to the Spix macaw population on the Blu Bird Sanctuary alongside Blu and Jewel. However, their initial meeting got off to a sour start but throughout the adventure involving a second band of smugglers assisted by their trained dogs led by the sadistic and bad-tempered Doberman named Brutus, Aurora and Zephyr had grown to like each other. This couple eventually became mates a good number of months following those events, and the two had five beautiful chicks; Justin, Charlotte, Matilda, Virgil and Eustace who were a son, two daughters and two more sons respectively. Following the hatching of these five chicks (which was quite a large clutch), Aurora and her new family had become the second family of Spix macaws to live on the Blu Bird Sanctuary. During this time, Zephyr's sister Brisa had become the proud aunt to these five chicks and the Blue Bird Project team had been trying to search for a male Spix macaw for her but had no success.
At almost the same time, Aurora's glaucous cousins Bellatrix and Sirius had paired up with Antares and his cousin Samara, also originating from the Amazon and these four had been the only known glaucous macaws in existence. However, like Aurora and Zephyr, they at first did not get off on the right talon, but that cold bond had warmed up throughout the adventure with the four eventually becoming mates months after. Both glaucous macaw couples were also now proud parents of a clutch of chicks each, with Bellatrix and Antares having three and Samara and Sirius having four. The former's clutch were two sons named Levi and Aiden and a daughter named Phoebe and the latter's clutch were older sons Tristan and Quincy and younger daughters Sapphire and Trixie. However, Sirius and Samara initially had five eggs but one of them had failed to hatch. Furthermore, Trixie had hatched unusually small and required a LOT of attention during her growth from a hatchling to a young chick. Nonetheless, Samara and Sirius, together with Antares and Bellatrix, had saved their species, the glaucous macaw, from certain disappearance from existence and had given their species a new lease on life in a new generation, in the same way Blu and Jewel and eventually Zephyr and Aurora had for their species, the Spix macaw, and each individual glaucous and Spix macaw chick had been carefully monitored by Tulio and his team for each individual chick of these two species were ULTRA valuable indeed.
During their adventure in Rio, Sirius, Bellatrix and Aurora had met several new friends, among them Chip-I-am the honeycreeper who was a new friend of Nico and Pedro; Ruby the scarlet macaw, Ferdinand the blue-and-gold macaw and two Amazon flying foxes and the only known pair of their species, Orion and Ahsoka, and two Dalmatian dogs, Ellie who was a stray and Milo, who had been one of the smugglers' dogs. Ruby and Orion came from the Amazon rainforest along with Zephyr, Brisa, Samara and Antares while Ahsoka had been raised by a human named Joanna after being found separated from her little group as a pup. However, her little group was nowhere to be found. Throughout her life until the events involving the second group of smugglers, Ahsoka did not fly a single flap, much like Blu had been when he had been under Linda's care. However, during the fiasco with the smugglers, Ahsoka eventually learnt to do so. She was now the mate of Orion (who Tulio and company had helped to pair up even though the two bats didn't start off on the right foot either, like the blue macaws) and over the past three years, the pair had had three pups, born one by one instead of as a single clutch like their macaw friends. Sandalwood was the oldest son, born a few months after the second smuggler fiasco. Orion and Ahsoka's second pup, a daughter named Acerola, was born around two years later, and the couple now has a third pup, another daughter named Hermione. By having pups, Orion and Ahsoka had saved their species, the Amazon flying fox, from extinction to the gladness of Tulio and company and like the Spix and glaucous macaw chicks, every Amazon flying fox pup was carefully monitored and valued. Roughly the same time, Ruby the scarlet macaw and Ferdinand the blue-and-gold macaw had paired up despite being different species and had also had their own chicks, a clutch of two consisting of a son named Sheldon and daughter named Opal. These two were dubbed 'Catalina macaws' due to their heritage. Before and during the second smuggler fiasco, Ruby had held a caustic vendetta with Jewel, Zephyr and Brisa and the four NEVER got along which sometimes caused problems for the rest of the group, especially Aurora, and themselves but after the fiasco, the four eventually became friends and vanquished their vendetta completely. To further symbolise their vanquished enmity, Opal and Sheldon were like close 'cousins' to Carla, Bia and Tiago and also the rest of the babies in Aurora's group.
While Aurora and company raised their chicks and pups, in the same way, their new canine friends, Milo and Ellie the Dalmatians, after becoming adopted into Brendan's family and eventually mates when they reached maturity, had had a litter of ten puppies, all whose names began with 'S'. Their names were, in birth order, Sunspot (male), Sparkle (female), Steven (male), Scottie (male), Sputnik (male), Sheila (female), Sigma (female), Selene (female), Sabrina (female) and Shasta (female). All ten puppies sported white coats like all Dalmatians and their spots were black like their father Milo's despite their mother Ellie having liver (brown) spots. All the puppies were similar in build and looks but were distinguished by their spot distribution, features and eye colour. Sunspot had blue eyes like his mother while Sparkle's eyes were brown like her father Milo's; Steven's eyes were green, Scottie's eyes were hazel, Sputnik's eyes were sea-green, Sheila's eyes were chocolate brown, Sigma's eyes were blue, Selene's eyes were dark green, Sabrina's eyes were midnight blue, and Shasta's eyes were blue-grey. Unique spot and marking features included some of Sunspot's major spots bearing a fuzzy rim around their edge, giving them the appearance of his namesake features on the sun's surface; Sparkle had black ears; Steven had spots arranged like a star on his back; Scottie had four large spots arranged like the shape of a badge from the Star Trek series on his back; Sputnik's front right foot was black as though he had dipped it into a pot of black ink; Sheila had a clump of spots surrounding her right eye giving her the appearance of wearing a patch like a certain Dalmatian puppy character from a Disney film but not solid; Sigma had a spot arrangement on her back resembling the capital form of her namesake letter in addition to a lower case-letter-like formation of spots on her forehead; Selene's back spot arrangement resembled a crescent moon; Sabrina had no particular outstanding feature in her spots and Shasta's spots were elongated on her back, arranged around a central black blotch, giving the spot pattern the arrangement of a daisy flower with a centre and petals. The ten puppies had a variety of interests with some overlapping the chicks of Aurora, Blu and company.
During the passing three years also, Brendan, May and Matthew continued to help out with the Blue Bird Project with Matthew taking courses in ornithology and chiropterology (study of bats) as inspired by Aurora and company including Orion and Ahsoka, the flying foxes. At the same time, Ahsoka's carer, Joanna, was also studying bats to become a chiropterologist and help in bat conservation, and Jack and Jill, the fraternal twin brother and sister who also used to work for the second group of smugglers before abandoning that illegal business to become a part of Brendan's family as adopted son and daughter, and Matthew's adopted siblings, also helped out on the Blu Bird Sanctuary. Back with Aurora and company, Aurora, Bellatrix, Sirius and Ahsoka had chosen to live in natural hollows out in the jungle with their families rather than in an artificially constructed home like Blu and his family who lived in a birdhouse nailed to a tree near Tulio, Fernando and Linda's cottage. Ahsoka had learned to live as a wild flying fox with Orion's help and the help of some bat friends, and had developed crucial skills such as foraging for fruit and caring for her pups like a wild mother bat. Milo and his family, however, remained as house pets due to being domesticated dogs bred to live in human homes after all, and lived in Brendan and his family's home and the ten puppies, once they grew old enough, will be sold to other families in the future. Aurora and company including their new Dalmatian friends who were also part of their extended family, were enjoying their lives as parents and raised their offspring in their respective homes. However, a new adventure was about to unfold…
As Aurora, Bellatrix and Sirius raised their chicks with their respective mates, Zephyr, Antares and Samara; they still kept their parents' dream and hope of seeing other macaws like themselves alive, alongside the hope of venturing into the Amazon to find those birds. Orion and Ahsoka also had this same hope of finding other Amazon flying foxes living out in the Amazon and also had the desire to venture out there to find them one day for Orion, after all, came from the Amazon along with Zephyr, Brisa, Jewel, Ruby, Samara and Antares and had told Aurora, Ahsoka and the others that he was from a small clan of those large bats, and Chip-I-am wanted to come with the group too. However, that Amazon journey was to be made by Blu, Jewel, Carla, Bia and Tiago along with Rafael, Nico and Pedro first, but Aurora and company, together with Ferdinand, Ruby and their chicks Sheldon and Opal, would soon follow that flight path.
