Disclaimer: I do NOT own Hey, Arnold at all.
Also, this is my first time writing fanfiction of the show, so I will try my best to keep them as character as possible. I don't know if my first chapter will be a hit, but if anyone wants me to continue let me know.
It's a bit Fantasy/Romance/Time travel/hurt comfort/adventure
Pairing: Arnold/Helga
Post during the Jungle movie, but my own version, it won't follow 100% as the movie.
It will go different from the original movie, so everything will change.
Also, I'm not good at grammar.
...
Something was different in Helga, Arnold couldn't pin it, but all he knew, she will do anything to protect him, even it will cost her own life. After all, her love for him is as pure as snow.
Chapter 1: Desperate?
I linger my eyes on the journal longer than I wanted, but I couldn't avert them. I trace my fingertips on the hardcover while my heart ached.
Maybe, just maybe they are alive. I need a way to go to them. Anything that can help.
"Morning Arnold." I heard my best friend Gerald call out from the door, causing me to look up from my journal. Without a second thought, I pushed the journal rapidly inside my desk and gave a nervous laugh.
"Morning Gerlad," we fisted our hands and place it together, doing our signature handshake after he came up to me.
"You know," he began as he slips off his book bag and places it behind his chair to sit down.
"What?" I asked, watching him lean closer to me, almost tipping to the side.
"I ran into Helga." He began. I arched a brow, giving him a plain shrug.
"So?" I thought it would be something interesting.
"So Arnold, my point is, when I bumped into her, instead of her yelling at me like she normally will do, she just looked at me with a strange look, I can't name it, but it was so strange, that it gave me goosebumps." He said shivering at the memory.
I gave him a solid look not sure how to react to his words.
"What do you mean strange look?"
"I don't know man, but it was bizarre, it was her, but you'll see what I mean when she comes in." he shrugs it off and turns back to his seat. I turned my gaze back at the door watching everyone entering the classroom.
As everyone said their morning, Helga has not entered the classroom, so I turn my head to look at Mr. Simmons is sitting on his share sorting out his papers to begin his lesson. He stood up as the bell rang to indicate that classes have begun.
Mr. Simmons stood up and claps his hands together, looking at everyone in the class with hope in his eyes.
"I have good news to give, but.." he trailed off, as his eyes scan through the room counting everyone making sure everyone is counted for, I'm sure he didn't want to have the same accident from where we left Hegla and Herold behind in the chocolate factory.
"Strange, everyone is here, except for Helga. I didn't receive any call from her parents. I hope she's doing okay." he frowns, but as though he called out, we heard the door open.
"I'm here, I'm here, is not like it's my first time coming in a bit late, let say my bladder was it's max" Helga give him a forced smile, as Mr. Simmons clears his throat.
"Alright if it's like that, then I let it go since you were only two minutes late. Have a seat, I have exciting news," he said with a grin in his lips, looking excited to tell us. Helga turns to head for her desk behind me, when she suddenly stops right in front of me and I look up to meet with her blue eyes. I don't know why, but suddenly my heart skipped a beat as she kept staring at me. Something passes her eyes, as though they turn glossy, as though she wanted to cry or something.
"What are you looking at FootballHead?" she crunches her fist looking at me, looking annoyed. I mentally sigh as I lay my chin on my hand and leaned against it as I lower my gaze.
"Nothing Helga," I simply said not bothering with her. As she left, I place my hand on my chest rubbing it trying to calm down my racing heart.
I've been on the edge, since her strange confession in the rooftop of FTi. If as she claims to love me, then why does she continues to act so rude towards me? Also, her kiss, the way she looked at me. I run my fingers through my lips remembering the kiss she gave me.
It shouldn't bother me at all, it was the heat of the moment nothing else. Plus, I don't have time to be thinking about this.
"Since summer is around the corner, there's going to be a contest, whoever wins it, will have a free trip to San Lorenzo." I jerk up from my seat as my eyes bulged out from this news.
God, tell me this isn't a dream.
I rose my hand anxiously waiting for my teacher to call me out.
"Yes, Arnold?" Mr. Simmons gaze at me.
"How can we enter? What do we have to do to win?" I rushed my words as my heartbeat with excitement, that my hands began to shake a bit.
"Well, you can sign up after class, and just submit a video of humanitarian, any good deed to help others." he simply said. I nodded as I took my pencil and held it tight.
"Then, good luck for everyone now let's get on with our today's lesson." he began, hearing every student complain, but complied with him as they began to open their books. I timidly lower my head and felt as though I could skip around or something.
Yes, I can get to the contest and hopefully win.
I was so caught up in my own world that I didn't notice Helga's deep look in her eyes, burning on the back of my head. She sighs, placing her head down and covers her face with her hand.
"I think we can do this Gerald," I said excitedly as I poke my food. We are in the cafeteria, eating our lunch as the others were minding their own business, or getting in line to get food.
"Hmm, I don't know Arnold, seems a bit over the top. What chances do we get to win the contest?"
"We don't know until we try Gerald, please, just think of it, an adventure, seeing something else, then just buildings," I begged him as he lift his gaze from his tray and looks at me. He shook his head and place his elbow on top of the table.
"True, I still don't know man." he shook his head, but before I could get something in we heard another plate place next to mine. Gerald and I turn to see Helga G Pataki looking at us as though she was ready to kill us or something.
"No one has invited you." Gerald said as Helga sneer at him.
"This is a free country, I can sit anywhere where I please. Actually, I came to speak to Arnold," she said causing me to look at her.
"Talk to me? What for?" I asked knitting my brows feeling confused by this as her cheeks tinted a bit pink.
"Because I have a mouth and a brain, and place those two together, I came with a wonderful thought to speak to you. isn't it useful Arnoldo!" she forced a smile which didn't reach her blue eyes, yet her sarcasm was very heavy almost laying it thick.
"Whatever you say, Helga, what do you want to speak about?" I asked, at this point, I'm used to her insults. She turns to look at Gerald.
"Let's speak in the playground." She stood up taking her plate. I turned to look at Gerald as he just shrugs.
"If you want, I'll send backup, see I told you she looks strange," he suggested as I stood and took my plate. I shook my head and frowned as my eyes followed Helga, exiting the cafeteria.
"It's fine well, she does look a bit more down toned, maybe she's tired or something. Yet, she won't kill me, right?" I swallowed hard as Gerald shook his head.
"I'll make sure you'll get justice, I won't let her getaway," he said smugly causing me to roll my eyes at him.
"Geez thanks, what a good friend." I walk away from the table causing Gerald to scream back at me.
"I did offer back up and you refused, so I'm clear in my conscious," he calls out. I shook my head, not daring to answer him back.
"So what is it, Helga?" I asked as I entered the playground, she was hanging from the monkey bars, with her arms across her chest, looking as though she was in deep thought. The only thing I could feel is the heatwave melting me as soon I stepped outside.
It's so hot, how can she be hanging, like that? I wipe my sweat out of my forehead.
"About the contest." she began, as she pulls her self up and jumps down landing solidly on her feet, then adjust her pink dress. I went up to her and sat on the bench, watching her walking up to me.
"Yes, what about it?"
"I have another way for you to go to San Lorenzo, so you won't have to do the contest," she said to me. I turn to look at her with a poker face, not believing a word.
"Wait, what another way? I mean, it's not like I am desperate,"
Does it look like I am?
I suddenly felt nervous as I lower my gaze and twiddle my thumbs together. Helga kept her gaze at me and gives me a deep look which for some odd reason when I lifted my gaze since she didn't answer me, her look cause my heart to thump once again.
Again? Gerald is right, something in her is off. I can't point it though.
"Here," she places her hand inside of her shirt causing me to blush as she takes out something and grabs my hand to place it on my hands. I look at it and my eyes almost bulge out as I look at it as though it was some sort of a strange
"If you keep gaping at it like a fool, then might as well let the flies go in and make a living out of your mouth," she said dryly as she crosses her arms in front of her chest.
"How did you get these?" I asked not believing it still. Helga stood up and clears her throat avoiding my question.
"You can invite everyone if you wish, there's enough for everyone, and don't worry, I already book someone to tour us around. Wouldn't this be an interesting trip?" she simply said as I watch her walk away from me. I held the tickets in my palm as I watch Helga head for the doors.
Helga, why? Why have you given me these tickets? I felt so confused as I lowered my gaze missing Helga looking back at me. Her eyes moist as a deep pain dipped into her inner soul.
"Whatever it is, I'll pay her back, but this is God sent. Mom, dad, soon, soon I will reach you."
I hope you enjoyed the first Chapter. Let me know if you'll want me to continue. Like I said earlier, I will change lots of things around.
