It had only been a month, well for them at least, since Kara had left 'her' time. Left 2021 to work as a member of the Legion, and already together they had done so much, addressed such injustices, balanced so many misalignment's in the universe that Kara felt like she was already a good fit for her new time and place as a Superhero.
The rest of the team seemed to think so too, and most of the time the mood on board the ship was a good one. Light and full of comradery, but at the same time nothing like the past with the Tower or even the unity that was the 'Superfriends'. But it still felt familiar already to work with a common 'good' purpose and that was something Kara was very thankful for.
A good deal of that good feeling was due to Winn, being with him in the future just felt like being and working with him in the past, just with a lot more gadgets and technology. He hadn't really changed in his personality, he was still warm and loving, fun and a little geeky, but most definitely the Winn of old, with a heart of gold and so much affection for his friends. The only thing that had changed was his sense of responsibility, but then how could it not have? He now had a wife, a family. He was a father and that meant people relied specifically on him and it suited him Kara had realized quickly. It had inevitably caused a small change in his approach to things, the adjustment to a slightly more cautious, more careful man, who Supergirl was sure had everyone's best interest at heart.
There was of course Mon-El too, though if she were honest he sometimes made things a little harder rather than easier for her. Mon-El was definitely someone who had changed, for the better for the most part, but also rather drastically in so many ways. This she knew of course from his first visit back from the future, but living with the new Mon-El 24/7 had really impressed upon her the differences in the man she loved.
And she did love him, that hadn't been a hard thing for her to admit once she'd taken a deep breath and let herself feel the things she buried deep inside when he'd arrived the second time. This time no longer married to Imra, and thus no longer 'off limits' to her heart and mind. At first she had found it hard to sort out how to navigate the new territory, the man she had wanted for so long had appeared in front of her again but this time there was no distance in him, no attempt to keep her at arms length, and it seemed easy to slip into the joyous part of her that felt that the love she had put into a pod that faithful day was no longer barred away.
Everything on Earth up until their leaving had been so dangerous and tumultuous, Kara had known they'd not really had a chance to really settle into this normal. And the minute she'd found herself in future, there had suddenly been a soft disconnect if she was honest. Mon-El had settled into a life that was familiar to him, every nook and cranny of the ship already memorized, the relationships he had with the other crew members solidified through hard combat and common goals.
For Kara, that had been what had made her own homesickness in the beginning all the harder. It would have been easy in some ways for her to just let his world engulf hers, let the 'safety' of them as a couple smooth over the sting of the loss she felt but she was still Kara Zor-El, and that didn't mean she would choose a path just because it would be easier.
Here in the future, they had agreed to take things slow, at the blonde's prompting and to Mon-El's initial disappointment. He'd been resolute to her that his feelings were concrete and unwavering, so her needing time to adjust to the 'future' was something he could easily support her through, more than that, it was something he was ready to support her through.
Late at night the first week in her assigned room on the ship, Kara had realized that she didn't want to change everything at the same time. The huge shift in time and place was something she wanted to have dealt with truly before she branched into the idea of having a partner, possibly one for life, if the bond between them proved to be as strong as Mon-El always underlined to her that it was.
No matter how many positives there were in her new time, and there were more than a few, there were still negatives. Some negatives, like the phantom induced nightmares she still periodically suffered from, she'd hoped to leave in the past somehow. Other negatives had been the same intrinsic points that almost had kept her from making this decision in the first place.
She desperately missed her sister, everything about her; their talks, their sisterly looks, the support, just the other woman's simple presence left a hole deep inside Kara's heart. Of course Alex wasn't the only one she missed so very much at times that it literally felt hurt the Girl Of Steel. But she didn't want to focus on that right now either, she had tried to explain to Mon-El in one late night talk. Mostly because she wanted to feel good about her choices, good about her position, especially since as they rounded into week six since her arrival, for the first time really in that month, there was tension on board the ship.
It all stemmed between Mon-El and Winn, who were usually the best of friends, working together for the common good without clash or grating, but right now things were brittle to say the least, and Kara had quickly come to understand why. Winn wanted to call a small time out for the team, he wanted 'shore leave' as he called it. A chance to go home to his wife and (now two) children. He wanted a couple of weeks of home comfort after what had been a very filled month of adventures.
Mon-El didn't grant his request though. Their unofficial Captain more focused it seemed on the 'good they could be doing' out and about in the cosmos.
Kara knew that one of them would have to give, and in the end one had. It was Mon-El who caved, though only after three other Legionaries openly supported Winn's request. Underlining to their seemingly unmovable Captain that they all did indeed have lives and sometimes time needed to be taken living life and not just being a Superhero. He had still only reluctantly given in and that was the cause of the sour look that was still on his face right at this moment.
Both he and Kara were sat on a ridiculously comfortable couch, or in the blonde's mind it lined up with her definition of a couch. Winn had waved his arm at a wall panel and from it the puffy long shelf had emerged and he'd encouraged them to sit. On the far wall of the large room was a projected 'television' of sorts, though Kara knew it was probably more akin to what could have been produced back in the day if a computer, a movie screen and a television had merged to create a new 'baby'. The 'screen' didn't seem to originate from anywhere, and no matter where you moved in the room it seemed to orient itself to each viewer at the same time to give them an optimal experience. The main viewing area was settled onto what Mon-El had indicated was a 'news feed' of sorts, with both the left and right sides of the screen overlaid with other smaller 'alternatively fed' views.
Trying to quickly orient her when they'd come into the room, Winn had showed her how the 'screen' could just be summoned with just a swirl of the hand, and how it continued to be controlled by the in air movements he was making. The whole system was known as 'The Link' and its sole purpose was to provide everyone free easy access to information, entertainment, household maintenance and communication.
The main view's news channel offered her some sense of familiarity at least as there was still a centrally focused 'newscaster' who was charged with pushing attention from one story to the next. Some of the choices, in various languages and alien formats in the smaller screen, well those choices Kara didn't even understand completely yet, let alone want to tune into.
On the floor just in front of them Winn's oldest was playing with something that looked both fun and educational. The young girl was totally entranced with the holographic lights and colours that hung in the air in front of her eyes, though Kara could only guess that from her vantage she wasn't getting the entire picture of what the child was seeing. Mary's soft brown eyes occasionally went wide as she manipulated the toy in her hand one way or another with hand movements, even clapping at one point when she seemed to do something even she hadn't thought she could.
From somewhere down a corridor nearby them came voices. Winn and his wife Alya's voices to be specific. Happily talking together over the preparation of dinner for everyone, the conversation occasionally interrupted by a gurgle or light cry for attention from the youngest Schott family member, still really nothing more than a babe in arms. Kara had earlier been informed that in her honour they were going to 'cook' dinner for everyone the old fashioned way, and not just synthesize a meal from the in wall apparatus that the blonde had learned was the norm for the time.
"I know it's crazy to say this but just to have my feet on solid ground again feels good." Kara gave the Daxamite a goofy smile as she tried to make conversation.
"Says the girl that can literally fly." Mon-El chuckled with a soft shake of his head, his light scowl disappearing as he looked at her. "And you can't tell you're not on solid ground on the ship, it's designed that way especially. There's a whole console dedicated to it." He laughed a little more. "I think you just wanted to have someone make you food, rather than just having it machine processed." He went on with a light tease.
"I do miss the taste of food, greasy bad for you food." Kara admitted with a laugh of her own. "Whatever they're cooking smells..." Her voice just literally petered away as her blue eyes were drawn back to the Link screen, not because of flashing lights, or some kind of special effect, but because of a voice she would know anywhere.
"Here at L-Corp we strive to help not only the population of this planet, but the lives of all life in the universe as we know it, which is why, this Saturday all are invited and indeed encouraged to join myself, Lena Luthor and many of my very talent friends and colleagues in 'A Celebration Of Life'. This concert will..." The voice, which was accompanied by a full body view of the slender brunette with strikingly familiar features as she continued to give details about the upcoming event but Kara was losing details with each second.
All her brain was thinking was... Lena.
