Teddy lupin was like any other wizard waiting for his letter to Hogwarts, almost. His parents had fought in the Battle Of Hogwarts, he had been told all of this by Harry Potter himself and his parents of course. Yes, they survived, barely. His father almost died many times in his life but his duel between him and Dalhoff was finally won when Remus killed him. His mother Nymphadora or more commonly known as Tonks, same as her husband nearly died many times, but her biggest battle being between her and her aunt Bellatrix Lestrange. It was a grooling one with Tonks coming out on top but she didn't kill, Bellatrix managed to scramble away before getting killed by a very angry Mrs. Weasley.
But now nearly 10 years later teddy waits anxiously for his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. He stares out of the window in his bedroom in his house. It was a beautiful small house in London. After the war, his parents decided it should be good for teddy to still have a 'muggle' or normal childhood growing up. As Remus did when he was young.
His turquoise hair pressed against his window with his intense star at the front door. He had already wondered if he hadn't been accepted, but he suppressed that thought, thinking of all the times he'd shown magical ability. The most iconic being the tree incident.
Teddy and his childhood friend Michael a blonde skinny boy who lived down the street, were sitting in a high oak tree in the park his parents had finally allowed him to take a friend to the park alone while they went shopping. Being seven the boys wanted to reach the top of the tree. The branches got weaker the higher you went. Halfway up Teddy had slipped trying to place his foot on a branch and was falling face up to the hard grass.
He desperately wanted to morph into a bird or something and fly down to the ground but being in front of his muggle friend he couldn't that and he had never even thought of morphing into a bird and didn't know if he even could. But shortly after falling his speed decreased and he softly floated down to the grass in a sitting position.
His parents came back shortly after and a stunned Michael and Teddy were frozen in the same spots. Michael blabbered about it saying it was so cool, luckily with him being so young his parents just thought he had just imagined it.
Remus and Tonks weren't very happy to begin with but eventually warmed up to the fact that, that specific stunt had probably got his name written down to go to Hogwarts for sure.
But now Teddy wasn't so sure, all of his friends like Victoire' said they all had their letters and even started to talk of when to go to Diagon Alley to buy all their supplies together.
"Teddy, dinner" His mother called
Teddy managed to peal his eyes off the window and go downstairs for dinner. He walked into the kitchen and plonked down on one of the chairs at the table. His father looked at him as folded his copy of the daily prophet.
"You'll get your letter soon enough Teddy" Remus said encouragingly.
He knew his dad was trying to cheer him up, since his dad did doubt about getting his acceptance letter when he was younger, but at least he had a big reason with lycanthropy instead of just being a squib.
Tonks came round carrying the plates containing their dinner. She had gotten better with cooking and being a mother as Teddy got older, but that's not to say she hasn't lost any of her bubbly personality or her clumsiness. Something Teddy hasn't inherited too badly.
'you'll get it soon enough Ted' his mom said sitting at the table.
'yeah, I hope' Teddy replied
They ate dinner rather quietly that night with just the noise coming from the radio talking about the daily prophet.
After dinner Teddy decided to go up to his bedroom but instead of just stareing out the window looking at the front door he decided to write his friends a letter saying he probably won't be coming to Hogwarts and how he still hasn't received his acceptance letter. He had been avoiding the subject for weeks now, but he wanted to get it over and done with.
Teddy grabbed a piece of parchment an envelope and his ink and quill and started to write to Victoire' since she was the most exited to go to Hogwarts together.
Teddy had spent hours trying to decide on what to write and halfway through his letter he had fallen asleep on his desk from exhaustion.
"PECK"
"PECK"
"PECK"
Is the sound Teddy woke up to outside his window, he managed to open his eyes confused as to what had happened and how he had fallen asleep. Though all those thoughts went away when he saw a bird with a letter with a purple wax seal in his beak. He opened the window took the letter from the owls beak before closing it as the owl flew straight into the lightly lit dawn sky.
Too happy to care Teddy ran across the hall to his parents bedroom switched on the light and jumped at the end of the bed.
"Teddy why are you up its not even six o'clock yet" His mother said sitting up clearly tired.
His dad to had opened his eyes to the blinding light with a very tired unhappy look.
But as soon as he showed them his letter the frowns and yawns turned into tired smiles and a few 'I told you so's' from his parents.
They all huddled at the end of the bed and red the letter together, With the attached supplies list They also found a small piece of parchment slipped in between, it read
Sory, for the De Lay
Hagrid
"I guess you weren't lying when you said Hagrid wasn't a very good speller" Teddy commented
"wait till you see some off the rushed written notes we get in the field as an Auror and then even Hagrid's writing looks correct" his mother said getting out from under the quilt
"I think our friends will be happy to know your going Teddy" Remus commented
That reminded teddy of his letter he was writing to Victoire', he left his parents so they could get ready and went back to his desk to start a new letter to Victoire' and her parents on being able to come to Hogwarts like they planned.
He quickly wrote a letter explaining how the events happened this morning and to find out when we could go to Diagon Alley.
The day soon came to go shopping for their first year of Hogwarts. Victoire' and her parents Bill and Fleur Weasley had already gone shopping at Diagon Alley. So Harry, James, Ginny and a newborn Albus joined them instead, which Teddy enjoyed more since he hadn't spent much time with the potters recently.
The first stop in Diagon Alley was robes, of course they could only get a couple since they didn't know what house he was in yet. While in the store his parents had snuck off to have a conversation privately. Honestly, they had been doing it quite a lot and Teddy was starting to notice it and really wanted to know what was so interesting and big it would have them going off for so many private conversations.
But something or rather someone distracted him from his burning curiosity, while he was standing waiting for the lady to return with his new robes, he saw a scared girl sitting at a chair alone hiding her face with her long dark brown hair.
Teddy approached her, she seemed to be about his age, as he sat down, she flinched like someone had jumped up from behind her.
"Hey, I'm Teddy" teddy said offering his hand to shake, trying to be polite.
The girl looked at him smiled.
"Hi" the girl said
Teddy noticed her eyes were red and her face was puffy, probably from crying.
The girl then looked out through the window, she immediately tensed up.
"sorry I gotta go, bye now" The girl said before walking out the shop and disappeared.
Teddy put his hand back into his pocket feeling somewhat uneasy on how the girl reacted, sure she left him hanging for a handshake but her demeaner of how distant she was. How her smile how was convincing if you hadn't seen her 2 seconds ago sitting alone. The way she flinched when he approached her. But one thing for sure is that Teddy wanted to find out more of the mysterious girl who had just left the store.
Shortly after the girl left the lady in the store came back with his robes, he paid for them with the money his parents had given him for this special occasion, His parents now having finished their little private conversation met him outside with the potters to go get his other supplies.
"what's next on the list, Teddy?" Harry asked now holding Albus.
"The equipment for potions class" Teddy replied reading the letter.
After getting all of his supplies for school and his own owl he decided to call Beamer, there was only one thing left to get, his own wand from Ollivander's. Ollivander was getting old and there was rumors' of what would happen after his death, but it didn't worry Teddy as he knew he could still get his wand, plus the guy was smart and he probably had it all planned out.
His parents and the Potters waited outside, they knew how exiting and terrifying it was to get their first wand, plus doing it alone was the best way.
Teddy walked into the crowded shop to see a young man behind the counter, he had a clean cut of light brown hair, appearing facial hair, green eyes. He was wearing pale brown robes and reading a book that read:
EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT: Wands
The young man looked up at Teddy before putting his book down.
"Ah, you must be looking for your first wand?" the man said
"y-yes, but I thought Ollivander- "Teddy said confused before being cut off
"Oh, yes don't worry he's out the back, I'm his apprentice Adrian." Adrian said offering his hand to shake
Teddy shoke the man's hand before seeing him duck out the back to get Ollivander. The old man came through the door, looking exactly like he did on the old daily prophets, And for a guy who's nearly ninety you think he would have aged more.
"Ah, first time I see." Ollivander said
Teddy nodded a bit afraid to use his words around the strange man. Ollivander quickly moved from behind the desk to the shelves crammed with skinny boxes containing a wand.
"Here try this one, unicorn hair, twelve inches, should work" said Ollivander as he handed Teddy the wand
Teddy went to wave the wand but Ollivander stopped him.
"Hold on Mr Lupin please wave the wand in that direction" Ollivander said pointing to a corner set up with old books broken glass on top of a shelf with a curtain rag pined to the wall above it reading
Wave Here
Ignoring the question to how Ollivander knew his last name and probably his first Teddy readjusted his position to point the wand at the corner, and he understood why Ollivander wanted him to do this. After sixty years of bad spells and wand waving happening you think he would have come up with it sooner.
Teddy waved the wand… and disaster struck when the corner of the rag caught on fire and one of the books pages ripped out and flew everywhere. A shocked Teddy gave Ollivander the wand back and started picking up the torn-out pages and putting them back into the corner for another witch or wizard to blow around. The rag at the back had thankfully only chard the corner.
"hmm, try this one. Dragon heartstring, thirteen and a half inches" Ollivander said coming back from the bursting shelves.
Teddy looked at the wand it had twisting and was almost a black colour. He grabbed the wand and immediately felt warmth. He waved the wand making sure to face the corner and a gold light came out around the wand in his hand.
"Excellent, Excellent" Ollivander applauded
Teddy smiled he felt happy that he hadn't caused anymore chaos and he got his wand. He paid Mr. Ollivander and left the shop to see the potters and his parents wanting to know the whole story.
"So how' it go Teddy" Ginny asked while they walked down the busy street.
"It went well except for the part when I burned a corner of the sign and ruined a book."
"Oh that's nothing I remember I burst one of his favorite ink pots" Harry said leading James away from the stalls
"Really harry, you think that's bad I slipped just getting into the store, caused a right old mess of that place once I left" Tonks replied
They all laughed at that story. Teddy told them that he had set up a corner in his shop for students to practice so they didn't tear the shop to pieces.
"Honestly, you think he would have done that ages ago" Remus said laughing
"Hmm, it probably would have to do with his age, and who's going to take over the store when he's dead." Ginny questioned
"Oh, Adrian his apprentice, I think he would take over the shop after Ollivander" Teddy said
"Who's this Adrian?" Harry asked on behalf of all the adults wanting to know more.
Teddy explained how he met Adrian and how he would probably take over the shop after Ollivander before saying goodbye to the potters.
Once they had reached their house and put everything away his parents called teddy down into the kitchen.
"What's happening?" Teddy asked sitting down at the table across from his parents.
"Well, your father got offered the job to come back and teach defense against the dark arts again this year, and since you'll be at Hogwarts we were thinking if we move into a house in Hogsmeade." His mother explained
"As long as you are happy with-it Teddy?" His father added
Teddy now realized what all those private conversations were about, plus moving to Hogsmeade meant he could stay at Hogwarts while his mother and father could still see each other, plus he had heard that his dad was a really good teacher from a lot of friends and family.
"Okay, but will we still keep this place?" He asked
"Of course, we'll stay here in the holidays and in between terms if you want" Remus said
Teddy was happy to hear this and agreed to his parents plans. His parents were happy to hear this as they didn't want to have to do the long-distance thing.
Teddy spent the rest of his time packing up his bedroom and other parts of the house to move to their new cottage in Hogsmeade. But today was the day he would be leaving with his parents to Hogwarts. Though his parents promised to treat him like any other student once they boarded the train.
"Teddy come on were leaving soon" Remus called out to his son from the front door.
Having loaded all of his supplies into the boot of their car, Teddy with his pockets full of coins came downstairs quickly jumped in the car excited to finally be heading to Hogwarts.
His parents got in the front with Remus driving and they arrived at king cross station in no time. They got all of their essential items like Teddys school supplies and some things from the house into two trolleys. Tonks and Remus would come back and get the rest for the move each week when tonks used the floo network to get to work.
They arrived at the post between platforms nine and ten. His mother went first through the magic portal with the trolley of house essentials, to leave Remus and Teddy to go together.
"Ready son?" His father asked, knowing the importance it meant to him when he was in Teddys situation.
"Ready Dad" Teddy replied gripping onto the trolley hard.
Together they ran into the wall trough the portal to end up on the platform nine and three quarters. Teddy looked around in awe with his parents seeing the Hogwarts express for the first time all the young witches and wizards boarding the train, saying goodbye to their families ready to start a new year or like him their first year.
Victoire' came running up to him once they got further on the platform. Her blond hair let lose sitting halfway down her back.
"Teddy you made it! I was starting to think you couldn't come" She said hugging him.
He smiled at her remark of him not coming, "You really think I would miss out on this?" he asked
She laughed at the stupidity of her idea of him not coming.
"Oh, by the way, My parents have to catch the train as well, but they'll be on a completely different compartment than us." He spoke.
"So, the famous R.J Lupin has finally decided to accept the offer of his former job, has he?" Victoire' added
"Teddy, Victoire' come. We'll get you two set up and loaded." Bill called out to the two young friends.
Both lots of parents got the two set up, with loading their trunks on the train, they said their goodbyes to Bill and Fleur before Remus and Tonks left the two friends to find their own compartment, while they found theirs.
Victoire' and Teddy walked down the isles trying to find an empty compartment, however they were almost full… almost. Near the end of the compartments was the same mysterious girl who Teddy had seen in the store. She was leaning against the window looking out at the scenery, having already changed into her Hogwarts robes.
"She looks lonely" Victoire' said looking at the girl
"I met her once at the robe store in Diagon Alley" Teddy exclaimed
The two decided to go sit with the girl, she was alone and there was no where else to go. They slid open the door which made the girl jump.
"Sorry, do you mind if we join you? Everywhere else is full" Victoire' said nicely.
The girl nodded, gesturing that they could sit down, the both of them sat across from her.
"I'm, Victoire' and this is- "Victoire' went to say
"Teddy, he introduced himself at the robe store" the girl said smiling
"Yeah, but you ran off before I could catch your name" Teddy said. But he regreted it when he saw her go pale at the mention of that moment.
"sorry about that, I'm Charlotte" Charlotte replied.
The three of them seemed to get on well, especially Victoire' and Charlotte. Teddy was starting to understand how happy Hogwarts could be, and he hadn't even gotten there yet.
