1. Chapter 1

A/N: Hey there guys! Well this is a new idea of mine. It has been in my brain for a while and I wanted to give it a shot, you know! But I am warning you, this is just a preview, or a prologue. Hope you guys like it.

A lot of canon changes are there, slightly enough to be AU, but not that much.

Chapter-1

It had been 18 years since the Kyuubi's attack on Konohagakure no Sato. The third hokage was sitting on his desk and smoking his pipe looking at the pile of paperwork that lay before his desk.

'Why does this never end?'

He was grumbling and going about his business like usual when a visitor popped by his window.

"Missed me, old man?"

"Why can't you just use the goddamn door like any other Shinobi, Jiraya? This isn't your house!" reprimanded Sarutobi while sighing.

Jiraya grinned and then said, "Well, then that would make me ordinary, won't it?"

Sarutobi replied, "Well, it wouldn't kill you for you to BE ordinary."

Jiraya said, "Yeah, yeah, enough with the routine. Now, how about you ask all the others to leave, I have something to report."

Sarutobi who heard that narrowed his eyes and signalled for his ANBU to leave. Once everyone left, Jiraya put on a silencing seal on the door. The third Hokage who saw that then asked,

"What have you found out?"

Jiraya said, "Orochimaru has left the Akatsuki."

Sarutobi sighed and then asked, "What's he up to now?"

Jiraya said, "I heard from one of my informants that he is now forming a village of his own in the Land of Rice fields."

Sarutobi said, "No doubt to further his own experiments."

Jiraya then said, "Yes, but I am more worried about the organization rather than him."

Sarutobi asked, "What do you mean?"

Jiraya replied, "It seems they have bigger plans than we thought?"

Sarutobi asked, "Like what?"

Jiraya replied, "Like the tailed beasts."

Sarutobi went into silence as Jiraya looked at Sarutobi with a determined look. Sarutobi sighed and said, "Have you found out why they want the tailed beasts?"

Jiraya said, "No clue."

Sarutobi then plamed his forehead and said, "It seems the secret will come out sooner or later."

Jiraya said, "Yes."

Sarutobi let out a big puff of smoke and sighed deeply. He said, "Do you remember the time when I told you about my dreams for the future, when I was still teaching you Jiraya?"

Jiraya laughed under his breath and said, "Yes. Raise a new generation of Shinobi which would surpass the previous one while inheriting the 'Will of Fire'. Make the village a prosperous one. Find a worthy successor to pass the hat on. Retire and live the rest of your days in peace with Biwako-san. You die as a happy old man with your family beside you."

Sarutobi said, "That was the dream…..and unfortunately it will stay as a dream."

Jiraya replied, "Dreaming is of no use to us, old man. We are Shinobi."

Sarutobi then said, "And as Shinobi we failed the ones we gave our promises to."

JIraya made a solemn face as did Sarutobi. Sarutobi looked at the picture of Minato and then said, "They will never forgive us, should we ever go to the afterlife."

Jiraya said, "Nor should we expect them to. After what we have done."

The pair reminisced in silence of the good old times. But all that comes after was pain. Sarutobi said, "That's enough lamenting for today. We can't move back to the past, but only look forward to the future. We have a village to protect."

Jiraya asked, "What will you have me do?"

Sarutobi said, "I need you to keep your eyes and ears open to anything they may do. Report to me whatever you find on them. We play by ear."

Jiraya said, "Alright then."

Sarutobi then said, "Do you have anything else to report?"

Jiraya then nodded his head and said, "Yeah. Just one more thing."

Sarutobi asked, "What is it?"

Jiraya grinned and then said, "I recently made contact with an adversary in the Land of Water."

Sarutobi raised an eyebrow and asked, "An adversary?"

Jiraya nodded his head and said, "Yeah. A master of seals and weapons. He even made me go all out."

Sarutobi was stunned. It was the first time he was hearing of this. He then said, "If such adversary exists that he can go against the likes of you, then he must be famous. So, is he a rouge or affiliated with any of the villages?"

Jiraya grinned and said, "Neither."

Sarutobi asked, "What do you mean 'neither'?"

Jiraya said, "I said he's an adversary, but never said about him being a Shinobi."

Sarutobi asked, "So what is he?"

Jiraya looked out the window and then said, "He's a-"

(Meanwhile in the Land of Water)

A ship was moving out in the open waters of the land of water. It was early in the morning and the mist covered the sea as far as the eye can see. One of the sailors said,

"It's terrible bad luck to be here! Terrible bad luck!"

"Shut up! You are going to invite the bad luck just by saying it!" said a second sailor

"Oh! Come on! How bad can it be? It's just mist!" said a third sailor.

The first one replied, "It's not just mist! It's the devils that haunt these seas."

The third sailor's attention was grabbed as a cold breeze past through them. A fourth sailor said, "Ignore them, they just say this stuff to scare you."

The first sailor said, "You know it better than I do! The ones that haunt these seas! The Ship that preys on men and women alike!"

The third sailor said, "Speak sense man!"

The first sailor then said, "They come and go as ghosts, no one's ever seen them. Fast, too fast. The ship as dark as the sky lined with gold. They are the-"

However the captain interrupted at the right moment and said, "What the hell are you scallywags doing here?! Get back to work!"

The first sailor said, "A curse on these cap'n! We must not be here!"

The captain then replied, "If you don't want to be on this ship anymore, then how about I make it happen by THROWING YOU OVERBOARD! GET BACK TO WORK! WE NEED TO GET THIS SHIPMENT FOR GATO INTO THE LAND OF WATERS QUICKLY!"

The rest of the sailors didn't no longer tarry as they went about their duties. It was at that time a sailor announced,

"Something's there in the mist sir!" said the sailor at the crow's nest.

"What is it?!" said the Captain.

As the ship approached the mysterious object, the sailor at the crow's nest could see it better. He saw a black flag with a skull, and a whirpool background waving at the distance. It was a Jolly Roger. He shouted,

"PIRATES!"

As soon as he said that a canon shot was heard and came by near the ship!

The captain who heard it then said, "Ready the canons men! I want all hands on deck! Move! Move! They have sent a warning shot which means that these pirates intend to board us! Let's show them what we are made of! Now! READY YOURSELVES!"

The first sailor then said, "They've come! They're here!"

The third sailor said, "Get yourself together old man! We can't show weakness here!"

The first sailor grabbed on to the third sailor and said, "You don't understand! There's no escape! There's no escape from these devils!"

The third sailor then pushed the first sailor away and said, "Crazy old fool!"

The men then prepared themselves for battle. The sailors said, "They are in our sights cap'n!"

"READY THE CANONS! AIM! NOW…"

"….FIRE!"

As soon as he said that a volley of canon balls were aimed at the pirate ship but all of them missed. The sailors said,

"It's a miss!"

The Captain said, "READY AGAIN BOYS! AIM! FIRE!"

The canons were shot again but this time some of them made through. The men cheered but as the mist cleared away, they saw the state of the ship and were astonished. The captain looked at the ship and said,

"HOW?! How is this possible?! How is it that none of our ammunition made a scratch on them?!"

It was then for the first time the enemy ship fired.

"CANON FIRE!"

It was a chain shot. The mast of the ship had been hit with that one shot as the chain shot damaged it thoroughly stunning the ship. The sailor shouted,

"SIR! The main mast has been compromised! We can't move now!"

The first sailor said, "They're coming, they're coming! Those devils are coming!"

"Sir! What are your orders?!"

The men waited as the captain stayed silent. Several ropes with hooks came attached to the ship from the mist followed by the movement of pirates boarding the ship.

The men from both sides got ready to get into battle but a loud noise in the distance stopped them. It was a gunshot. Their attention was grabbed by the gunshot, which was followed by a voice,

"THAT'S ENOUGH!"

They all turned to see who it was that spoke and found it to be man. He looked tall and muscular in frame and was wearing a white sailor's shirt with a brown and brown sailor pants tied with a red cloth belt along with some combat leather boots. He was wearing a deep blue coat above the said black shirt which had a black skull within a red whirpool which also had gold linings and on it. The man was armed to the teeth with two tiger hook swords strapped to his back, two cutlasses on his waist well within sheathes. He was holding one of the five flintlock pistols he carried on him as smoke cleared from it's head. He was wearing a tricorne feather hat and his face was covered with a cloth mask. Only thing you can see of his appearance underneath is his sky blue eyes and some amount of yellow hair on his eyebrows.

He took out a coin and then flipped. Everyone on the pirate crew watched keenly. As the coin fell over, the man looked and found it was heads. He smirked and then said,

"GENTLEMEN! THIS IS A ROBBERY! BUT IT'S YOUR LUCKY DAY AS WE'LL ONLY BE TAKING ALL OF YOUR CARGO!"

(With Sarutobi and Jiraya)

"-a pirate" ended Jiraya

Sarutobi asked, "A pirate?"

Jiraya said, "Yes, a pirate."

Sarutobi asked, "So, you are saying, a criminal wields enough power to hold you back?"

Jiraya said, "Yep. Pretty powerful alright. Good with swords."

Jiraya then took out a book and handed it over to Sarutobi. Sarutobi looked at it and asked, "What is it?"

Jiraya said, "It's the new updated bingo book. Look to page 42."

Sarutobi then turned the page and saw that it was a man. However the photograph of him was taken from a distance unknown from him. He was wearing a cloth mask that hid most of his facial features. Only thing that stood out from him was his blue eyes and yellow hair.

Sarutobi read,

NAME: UZUMAKI (FIRST NAME UNKOWN)

ALIAS: GHOST

SEX: MALE

AFFILIATION: ROGUE

SPECIALTIES: KENJUTSU, WATER AND WIND STYLE NINJUTSU, FUINJUTSU

COMBAT RANK: JONIN

NOTES: REAL NAME UNKNOWN. WANTED FOR THEFT, MURDER AND SMUGGLING GOODS. HE USUALLY ACTS WITH THE REST OF HIS CREW AND IS NEVER ALONE. CARRIES CIVILIAN GUNS BUT IS SOMEHOW ENHANCED ENOUGH TO HARM SHINOBI.

Sarutobi then said, "I know him. He's the recent edition that has been rather troublesome for us. Calls himself an Uzumaki? That's unusual, so he's one of the survivors from Uzushio, is he? But 5,000,000 RYO? Why did Kirigakure place such a high value on him?"

Jiraya said, "Rumor is that he recently killed one of the relatives of the feudal lord of the Land of Water and that he is aiding the rebel faction in Kirigakure."

Sarutobi nodded his head as he said, "Oh I see…Maybe we should increase our bounty on him. It wouldn't be good if there was a rogue with as much skill as you."

Jiraya said, "I knew you would say that. But you might want to take a closer look before you jump to any conclusions."

Sarutobi asked, "What do you mean?"

Jiraya said, "Look Closer."

Sarutobi did as Jiraya asked and then said, "I don't get it. I don't see anything other than the fact that he has blue eyes and possibly have blonde…hair…."

Sarutobi came to a realization and then looked at the picture once again. He then looked at Minato's picture on the wall. He said,

"It's the same shade."

Jiraya said, "Yeah."

Sarutobi said, "So you're saying…."

Jiraya sighed and said, "I saw his face."

Sarutobi looked stunned as he dropped his pipe. Jiraya nodded his head and said, "He's alive. Naruto Uzumaki still lives."

(Meanwhile in the Land of Water)

A rather large ship was moving towards one of the islands in the land of water. The ship had around 20 or so sailors working on deck. The captain was shouting,

"Bring in the sails! Drop the anchor! This is as far we go!"

Three men came from below the deck and said, "Captain! What is the meaning of this?! We made an agreement for you to take us inland!"

The captain replied, "No! You made an agreement to show you to the island and that's it. I have shown you. You can take the boats if you wish to go inland. I don't have any intention to get killed!"

One of the man was a stout man with a beard that looked like a businessman. He was wearing a pair of glasses. He said, "What are you so afraid of? Those are nothing but a rag tag bunch of sc-"

The captain cut him off angrily and said, "Those rag tag bunch are the reason we are so afraid of these seas. They are demons incarnate! I don't know about you but I have no wish to visit the king of hell anytime soon! Take the damn boats and leave."

The three men looked angrily. One of the men by the stout man said, "Who the hell do you think you are talking to?! You are speaking to Gato-sama, remember that!"

Captain said, "Yes! I know very well who I am speaking to! And that's why I am saying. So now, you have two options. You can either take the boats, or we can throw you overboard so that you can swim to the island! DECIDE!"

The three men then looked by their side to see that the sailors had already equipped their weapons and looked ready to fight. Reluctantly they decided to compromise. They took one of the row boats on the ship and left the brig.

The two subordinates were rowing the boat while Gato was angrily cursing under his breath. They all then landed on the island together. Dense fog covered the island as they couldn't see anything. Gato screamed,

"GREAT! NOW WHAT THE BLOODY FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO?! WE HAVE NO WAY BACK, NO FOOD OR WATER AND NO BLOODY-"

It was at that moment a kunai came by his face slashing his skin leaving it to bleed. A voice said to him,

"You can either shut your gob yourself or I can do it for you."

The three men then saw a woman. She was a tanned beauty wearing a sailors top and pants along with a black jacket. Her hair was black as the night sky with a red bandana on top of her head. Her eyes were green as emeralds, her ears had been pierced with two gold earrings on both and her lips were coloured dark red like an apple. Her body was curvaceous but there was a defined muscle in the skin underneath. The clothing she wore had a lot of her cleavage exposed, enough to make a holy man into a horny man.

And apparently the same effect had been on our three abandoned guests as well. But that effect subsided as fear dominated their hearts and souls. It was because they recognized who that woman was and understood their current situation,

Gato was the first to speak. He said, "I have business with your associates."

The woman asked, "And who would we have business with?"

"Gato. I have sent a message before wishing to meet with him and thus came."

The woman looked at the men for a while. The looks she gave unnerved them but then she stopped and said, "Alright, I'll take you to him. Follow me."

The three then walked on for a while on the beach until they came upon to see a light in the distance. The closer they came, the bigger the light seemed to be. Once they neared the light, they realized that the light was a huge bonfire in the middle. There were houses and buildings on the side. The group saw that there were rough looking men drinking booze and dancing around the bonfire along with some fine looking women.

They made their way through place as they finally neared a ship which was at a distance. The ship was a rather huge brig with an intimidating presence. The hulls were reinforced with steel and the wood was polished black with gold linings. The sails were coloured black with gold linings on the side but were folded on the main mast. There was a figurehead of a maiden carrying a lamp in front of the ship. The ship looked to be well armed as canons were present on all of it's sides along with a couple of mortars on the back. All in all, the ship was a monster compared to the one they came with. They took one of the rowboats and went near said monster. It was then they heard a loud scream.

Gato gulped but the woman looked unfazed as she then shouted, "Oi! You! Tell the cap'n that Gato the Scumbag is here!"

"Aye!"

The four of them then waited for a while and then the man returned to say,

"The cap'n said that Gato is free to come on deck but will speak only after passing judgement."

The woman asked, "Judgement?"

"One of our men tried to steal from us, Quartermaster."

The woman nodded her head and said, "I see."

She then turned to Gato and asked, "Well, what do you lot want to do?"

Gato replied, "We don't mind. Besides it would help me understand what kind of man he is."

The woman shrugged her shoulders and said, "Suit Yourself. Climb aboard."

They all climbed aboard the ship and then saw five men with four other men in chains. All of them had a piece of cloth on their mouths but only one of them was bleeding from his knees. The pirate in the centre was the captain of the ship. He said,

"Jin-san, oh Jin-san. You disappoint me. You would dare steal from me, from this crew that treats each like his own brother and sister? Where's your conscience huh? Where is your sense of loyalty?"

The man moaned with the piece of cloth in his mouth. Naruto then said, "Well, if you still have some sense of loyalty, then why don't you tell me? Who was the cur that helped you? Who gave you the location of the vault?"

The man moaned. Naruto said, "Get that thing out of him, don't you see that the man wants to speak?"

The man then said, "Puuh…please spare me cap'n! I'll do anything you say! Cap'n! Anything!"

Naruto then said, "Then give me the information I need!"

The man said, "I don't know, Cap'n! I really don't know! The man was covered from head to toe! He only told of the location of the riches! These lot cooperated with me when I said that! No! They are the ones that encouraged me!"

The others shook their heads. Naruto smirked and then said, "Is that so….?"

"You have spare me capn! Please! PL-"

But before he could finish that sentence, a piece of cloth covered his mouth. Naruto then said, "All four of you have been judged guilty of treason and as such, you'll be punished."

He then looked long and hard at the men before saying, "Good thing is that I'm rather kind, so how about we take a chance?"

He then took out a coin once again. One of the new members of the crew saw that and asked, "Why does he always take out his coin? I see him flip it before we raid a ship every time."

One of the crew who was a veteran then said, "That's the captain's lucky coin. He takes it out whenever he wants to make a decision. Leave the decision up to chance. That's why he's so unpredictable. He sometimes goes easy on the ships he raid, and sometimes he is merciless. It all depends on the toss of the coin and also the goods he carries."

"The goods?"

"To merchant goods, he asks for half or takes half. If they cooperate then he gives protection till they arrive at their destination, but to shady ones like the loot we hauled this morning, he takes it all away either way."

The greenhorn then asked, "Then what's the use of the coin?"

The veteran laughed silently and said, "That decides whether they leave with or without their clothes."

"Quiet you lot!" shouted the Quartermaster.

Naruto then said, "So you know the deal. You all are to be executed. No questions. So let's decide the method of execution, shall we?"

The prisoners looked pale as they saw when the coin was tossed. It flipped tails. Naruto smirked and then said,

"Lucky you. It seems that you lot need not fight each other to the death. You all can sleep with the fishes tonight! Boys! You know what to do!"

"AYE!"

He said that and then turned his back as the crew kicked the prisoners overboard into the sea while they were tied to a heavy weights.

Naruto then said, "Ah! Gato-san. Sorry you had to see that dreadful business."

Gato wiped the sweat on his forehead and then said, "Yes..N-No.. you were doing what you thought was right, I-I h-have no r-right to judge."

Naruto raised an eyebrow as he gave an eyesmile. He said, "Is that so? Then I thank you for waiting."

"Bring some chairs here boys! Me and Gato-san here are going to speak some business!"

(With Jiraya and Sarutobi)

"B-but how?!"

Jiraya then said, "It's true. He's alive."

Sarutobi then asked, "How?! WE THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD!"

Jiraya then said, "And so did I, until I met him a while back. Started to reconnect with him."

Sarutobi said, "And You wait until now to tell me of this! We must bring him back to the village!"

Jiraya said, "And that is why I wanted to wait."

Sarutobi asked, "Wait?! What the hell do you mean?! He's out there, with no protection when there are men searching after him!"

Jiraya said, "And that is precisely why we must not bring him back."

Sarutobi looked at Jiraya for a moment and then understood what he was trying to say. "You want to make our enemies believe that he's still dead."

Jiraya nodded his head, "Yes. This is the best way we can be sure that he's safe."

Sarutobi smoked his pipe and then said, "You bring me good news and then you had to put a cork on it, didn't you?"

Jiraya sighed and then said, "It's the best possible situation for us. Besides, nothing can be solved if we brought him here by force. He's found a new family there."

Sarutobi then said, "So what are you suggesting? That we just let our village's weapon free. Do you realize what would happen if the council knew?"

Jiraya then said, "And that is precisely why I am informing you and not the council. I know those old coots and Danzo wouldn't give up bringing him back to the village and the means they would employ are not our best chances."

Sarutobi asked, "So what do you say we do?"

Jiraya then said, "We wait. We form slow connections. Friendly ones. Then slowly tie him back to the village. I'll make sure of it. After all, I named the kid."

Sarutobi sighed and then said, "Very well, Naruto Uzumaki will roam free for now."

Jiraya smiled and then said, "You wouldn't regret it, old man."

Sarutobi said, "I am sure as hell I won't."

Jiraya was about to leave by the door when he then said, "And yeah, have a good time reading the new one on the table."

Sarutobi looked down to finally notice the book on his table and found it to be the new edition of the Icha Icha. He smiled, not perversely but with relief as he thought,

'Maybe there is a chance for this village after all...'

(With Naruto)

Naruto asked, "So let me get this straight? So you want my help in bringing a shipment from the Land of Water to the Land of Waves?"

Gato replied, "Yes."

Naruto said, "Well, the answer is no."

Gato said, "I am sure the price can be negotiate-"

Naruto said, "Oh yes! My price WILL be negotiated because the price you're offering ain't much."

Gato said, "You took all of my shipments."

Naruto replied, "Yes. I did. So tell me, what can you offer me? What you need is something you can obtain from me and me alone. Secondly, from the sound of it, it sounds that this shipment you want is pretty important. Important enough for you to ask me, the one who regularly borrows from your shipments."

Gato grit his teeth and then asked, "What do you want?"

Naruto then said, "500,000 RYO"

Gato looked furious. His breathing was heavy but he knew where he stood and then said, "I can't give you that much."

Naruto then said, "550,000 RYO"

Gato replied, "I said I can't do that!"

Naruto replied, "600,000 RYO. Better make a quick decision Gato. I'm going to increase the price everytime you hesitate."

One of the goons by Gato's side said, "WHY YOU!-"

Naruto then said, "650,000 RYO."

Gato can no longer have it. His patience ran out but not his desperation. Zabuza lost once, so it said that chances are that he would lose again and thus he said, "FUCK IT! THAT'S ENOUGH! I'LL HAVE YOUR DEAL! 650,000 RYO IT IS!"

He thought, 'The shipment itself is worth only a million ryo and this fucker is taking more than 65%. Never mind. I'll kill him once he gets there. Yes…. Pretty sure there was a big bounty for his head. I know just the guy to call.'

Naruto smirked and then said, "Alright then! We are in business. Now let's talk about the advance payment, shall we? Cash or Trade?"
