"I swear revenge! On the blood of Talos I shall have my revenge!" Snoe'Gles cried out as he collapsed to the ground and wept bitterly. Snoe'Gles shivered while he wept as the harsh winds of the north still blew ever violently and unreilaneting. "Hail Snoe'Gles! I've arrived at last!" Snoe'gles gets up and turns around to see none other than Brother Taltus who places a warm fur cloak around the shivering Khajiit. "Brother Taltus h-how did you find me?"
"Just as you left on the morning of your recovery, I was given a vision by the Nine."
"A vision!?"
"Yes! It was made clear to me that our fates are intertwined, and that I must accompany you on your journey."
"I see, do you know what our fate is however?"
"No, Akatosh said that it would be you who would make it clear to me."
Snoe'Gles paused for a moment, unsure of how to tell Taltus what Akatosh told him nights before.
"You see Brother Taltus, 8 nights ago Akatosh spoke to me."
"The chief of the Nine spoke to you!?"
"Yes, and he told me the Emperor is in danger, and that I am to head to the Imperial City."
"Gods blood! Well we mustn't waste any time!"
Brother Taltus then began to march southward. "Well, are you coming Snoe'Gles?"
"Isn't the Imperial City that way?" as Snoe'Gles points to the way leading back to Dawnstar. "No… Snoe'Gles do you know where you are?"
"Yes we're just barely outside of Falkreath right?"
"No Snoe'Gles you're in Cyrodiil, we're closer to Bruma then we are to Falkreath. Where have you been going these past few days?"
"I'm sorry Brother Taltus, I have been… Distracted." as Snoe'Gles pulls out an empty bottle of mead. "I see now why the Gods have placed us together." brother Taltus laughs despite his disappointment of Snoe'Gles's apparent alcoholism.
"What do you think the Gods have planned for us Brother Taltus?" Snoe'Gles inquired while warming himself near the campfire. "Truth be told Snoe'Gles I haven't the faintest idea. I'm just as bewildered by all this as you are, my friend." There was a silence in the air for a short while after Taltus's answer. Snoe'Gles looked up at the night sky to gaze at the numerous stars and astral objects that soar above his head. "Brother Taltus, what did you say about the stars in your last sermon? Something about them and Aetherius?"
"Ah yes, you see Snoe'Gles the stars are bridges to Aetherius, the great plane of magic and one we will all return to. And the greatest one of them all is Magnus, the sun."
Snoe'Gles nodded as he continued to gaze at the stars.
"Did my brother make it to Aetherius, brother Taltus?"
"I… I would think so, both Griadas and Kyiro seemed like men that the Gods would favor."
"Oh yes, and Kyiro… And Griadas."
Snoe'Gles held back tears as he sunk his claws into the snowy ground beneath him.
"Well I'm… I'm quite weary from a long day's travel, I think I will get some rest now."
"Very well, goodnight Snoe'Gles. May Mara grant you pleasant dreams and a fulfilling rest."
"Uh, yes… You too, Brother Taltus."
Brother Taltus awoke a dark hour to the soothing sound of a calming melody. He did not know whether it was day or night, regardless it was cold and dark. But yet this far off voice enchanted him and he felt compelled to investigate. Brother Taltus ever so slowly crept out of his tent as to not wake up Snoe'Gles, and followed the sound of this voice. It eventually led to near the edge of the cliff, where they could oversee the snowy plains of Bruma. As brother Taltus drew near he saw sitting and singing at the cliff's edge was none other than Snoe'Gles. Astonished and wishing to hear more he did not bother the grieving Khajiit and listened to his melody.
"My blood is thicker than water
My family I shall never forsake
My Husband, and brothers, and daughters
My oath I shall never forsake
For the empires crumble
And the strength of men fail
But to the Gods I shall remain humble
And my family I shall never prove to be frail
For they are my blood and flesh
And them I must protect and provide
No matter the adversity, no matter the thresh
I live for my Gods, My Family, And My Bride."
Snoe'Gles wept bitterly after finishing his song. Brother Taltus seeing the shivering and weeping Khajiit decided now to make himself known. "It was a lovely song Snoe'Gles." Brother Taltus says in an almost whisper like tone as he places his hand on Snoe'Gles's shoulder. "These winter nights however are terribly cold, and I would advise you to head back to your tent… When you're ready of course." Snoe'Gles took Brother Taltus's hand as he feebly got up, shaking and wiping tears from his face. "No you're right brother Taltus, it's not wise for me to be out here at this hour… I'm ready to head back." Brother Taltus took Snoe'Gles by his hand and walked him back to their small campground to sleep until the rise of Magnus.
Akatosh better have a good reason why I'm hauling myself all the way to the Imperial City in this accursed weather Snoe'Gles thought to himself, shivering while he and Taltus continue their way across the snowy and freezing Jerall Mountains. After what seems like hours of trudging through the snow Brother Taltus gazed off at the edge of the plateau. "Brother Taltus, what are you staring at?" Snoe'Gles inquired while wading through the snow to meet up with his companion. "Look Snoe'Gles, we're halfway to the Imperial City!" Brother Taltus said with delight as he put his arm around Snoe'Gles and pointed to a far off series of buildings "That there Snoe'Gles is the great city of Bruma! The city of both Nords and Imperials alike." Snoe'Gles stood there in awe of the great snowy expanse in front of him, and how the sun seemingly shone upon this great city that was the shining jewel of Jerall Mountains region. "Praise be to Talos for bringing us to such a grand province. I can see why you always spoke very highly of these lands to the south." Snoe'Gles and Brother Taltus stood there for some time gazing upon this city, as a calm seemed to fill the air before the two pilgrims continued on their journey.
"What in oblivion is that?" Brother Taltus sharply whispered to Snoe'Gles as he grabbed the startled Khajiit and pulled him into the snowbank next to him. As the two peered over the snowbank they saw men who were dressed in black robes on and the chest of each robe was a crudely drawn red skull and a pair of skeletal hands. "Stendarr have mercy! It can't be-" Brother Taltus began to quietly but fervently pray. "Brother Taltus. What's going on? Who are those men?" Snoe'Gles whispered.
"Those Snoe'Gles are the Order of the Black Worm. A vile and blasphemous order of necromancers."
"What are they doing out here?"
Brother Taltus peered over the snowbank again to spy on the worm cult.
"I don't know Snoe'Gles." Brother Taltus whispered to SNoe'Gles as he lowered his head back into the cover of the snowbank.
"Shouldn't we do something about this? We obviously can't just let them be."
"Snoe'Gles have you gone mad? Do you know what we are up against? Necromancers aren't just some petty pickpocket. They are not to be trifled with."
"Brother Taltus may I remind you as it is written: "Be strong for war. Be bold against enemies and evil, and defend the people of Tamriel." Do you not think that Akatosh would frown upon our cowardice?"
Brother Taltus paused as he let out a sigh and looked up towards the cloudless bright blue sky.
"You're right Snoe'Gles, it was wrong of me to think otherwise."
Brother Taltus draws his spear and leather shield as he clashes his spear against his shield, making himself known to the necromancers. "FOR THE EMPEROR!" Brother Taltus screamed as he rushed forth with his spear drawn forward, Snoe'Gles following behind and astonished by the unexpected bravery of the man. The two necromancers out of the group of three resume their ritual as the third necromancer, a crazed Argonian, rushes forth with a dagger in hand. Brother Taltus staring the Argonian in the eye allows him to make the first attack. The Argonian attempts to sink his dagger into the priest's heart only for it to be lodged into the leather shield of Brother Taltus. Just as the dagger landed into his shield Taltus wasted no time in impaling the Argonian in the stomach with his spear. Brother Taltus flinched as he felt the spears tip plunge into the stomach of tha Argonian, the reptile's blood spewing on to his killer and pouring into the snow beneath them. As Brother Taltus pulled his spear out the Argonian's limp corpse fell to the ground. Brother Taltus stood there in shock before he was then tackled to the ground. Snoe'Gles, seeing that Taltus was about to be struck by the blade of a skeleton animated to life by the necromancers, forced Taltus out of the way. Snoe'Gles then quickly got up and tackled the Skeleton to the ground, bringing his fist down on to the skull of the skeleton, putting it back into its deathly state. Snoe'Gles then drew his iron shortsword and leather shield as he then roared a fierce battle cry at the two remaining word cultist. As the cultist turned around from behind them rose an animated corpse from a tomb they brought to this location. Out of this tomb rose a town guard who by the looks of it passed away not too long ago. The Khajiit and undead quickly exchanged blows. The town guard swung his rusted sword towards Snoe'Gles but the Khajiit was too quick for him, as Snoe'Gles crouched just barely avoiding the blade strike. Snoe'Gles then Snoe'Gles cut his sword from the guards shoulder to his hip. Despite the thorough cut much to Snoe'Gles surprise the guard seemed unharmed. Suddenly a spear flew out of Snoe'Gles's view and pierced the side of the guard. "You take the Worm Cultists Snoe'Gles! I'll handle the undead!" Snoe'Gles nodded at his companion as he rushed towards the now frightened necromancers. He let out a mighty roar as without any hesitation decapitated a necromancer with one swing from his sword, and saw the head of a Dunmer roll across the floor. The last necromancer swiftly plunged his dagger into Snoe'Gles's shoulder. However the anger of this Khajiit was too great, and he tackled the necromancer to the ground and proceeded to maul him to death with his own hands and claws. As the last necromancer, an Altmer, laid dead and bloodied on the ground, Snoe'Gles looked behind for his battle-brother. However he found the corpse of a town guard, and a bleeding priest on the ground. Snoe'Gles hastily rushed towards his fallen comrade to see his condition. "Brother Taltus! Are you alright? Where did he hit you?" Snoe'Gles stammered as he held the man in his arms. "Snoe'Gles… There's no saving me… This journey you must make alone."
"No, no this is foolishness. You will be fine Brother Taltus, we're almost there. We're so close to Bruma you can make it I know you can!" Snoe'Gles said while fighting back tears.
"Snoe'Gles… I love you… May the nine guide you…" Brother Taltus in with the remainder of his energy kissed Snoe'Gles on the cheek and let out his last breath, accepting the loving embrace of the Nine. Snoe'Gles then wept bitterly in the snow, in the cold tundras of northern Cyrodiil while holding his fallen friend, Brother Taltus.
