A/N: This one-shot came to my mind as I finished AYITL for like the umpteenth time and I decided to finally write it.
The pairings are set as much for the mystery. I hope you all figure out who Rory ends up with by the end! Let me know if you guessed right! Any reviews are appreciated!
Rory smiled as she studied the scene before her. Her daughter running out to meet him once again. "Daddy!" She squealed and jumped into his wide-stretched arms waiting to bring her into him. It had been weeks since he had been there, due to his job and they had missed him greatly. "Hi baby, you've gotten so big! Oh I've missed you." He replied as he snuggled into his 6 year old. "Missed you too daddy! Oh mommy said we could rent a movie tonight!"
"Oh did she now?" He said looking up to Rory's face for the first time since he got there. "Yes! I want to watch Toy Story!" He stood up with her in his arms and smiled.
"Again!?" Rory exclaimed. "You literally just finished watching it!"
Their daughter smiled and looked to her father. "Please." She begged pushing out her bottom lip
He laughed and nodded. "Sure." He walked up to Rory and shrugged. "What can I say? She's too cute."
"Yeah, I'm too cute!" She yelled and threw her arms around her dad and held onto him harder.
She had always been a daddy's girl. Even from the get-go. When she was a newborn the only way she would get sleep was if Daddy held her. Rory would've been really jealous if she didn't love them both so much. It had been a long road getting to where they were, but Rory wouldn't have it any other way.
"Hey, go on inside, mom and I will be right there." Their daughter nodded and when he put her down she ran off to the living room where all her toys were.
"Hey Ror." He said finally as he bent down and gave her a very loving kiss that said he missed her. Rory put her arms around his neck and held him to her before he could leave. "Oh don't think you're getting away that easily." She said before he could pull away. "How was the trip?"
"Oh you know, business like." He replied and she rolled her eyes. "Oh really? Is that what happens on a business trip?" She replied sarcastically and he chuckled.
"Well for some, it's more of a cover to go away to their mistress."
Rory shook her head. "Oh, I guess your mistress was in high spirits then. You were gone a week longer than you were supposed to."
He let his head fall on her shoulder, forehead first and nodded. "I know, I'm sorry. Problems arose with some of the projects we were waiting on. Don't worry though. My mistress is my work."
Rory nodded and kissed his temple. "I know. You're a workaholic, but it's all good. I was able to pump out some more chapters while waiting for you to come back. Of course only when Noa was asleep, cause I was not going to get anything done with her up. She's a handful that daughter of ours. Oh and she has watched Toy Story like 50 times this week. And she has been talking non stop since starting school. She had to tell me all about her day in such detail I know about the wrinkles on her teacher and where they are on her face." She said dramatically and showed where the wrinkles would've been on the teachers face.
He chuckled as he straightened back up. He put his arm around her shoulders and guided her inside.
"Well she is our daughter, and half Gilmore. I hate to break it to you Ror, but all the Gilmore women I encounter never seem to able to not speak for long."
Rory smacked him on the arm and grumbled on her way to the living room. "Noa, why don't you clean up some of these toys and we'll go to grabda's diner for dinner."
"Yay!" She squealed as she ran around the room throwing her toys in her box.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Lorelai turned to her with wide eyes. For what seemed like forever, she just stared at her daughter.
"Mom?" Rory finally asked and Lorelai finally blinked. "Yeah…. Yeah….. Wow kid. Are you sure? This isn't like some kind of 'hey mom's getting married, and I want to pull a prank on her' prank?"
Rory sighed and reached into her bag. She pulled out multiple white sticks and handed them to her mom. "I'm sure."
"Well, with 6 tests I can see why you're sure. Wow, I'm going to be a grandma…." Lorelai said in awe.
"Wait! I'm going to be a grandma!" She exclaimed and wrapped her daughter in a big hug. "Sorry kiddo, I had a moment of shock. I'm all good now. You know I'll be there for you every step of the way. Whatever you need, I'll be right here." She said with a big smile on her face as she pulled back. "I bet grandpa Luke will be thrilled! Careful when you get the ultrasound pictures, he may put it on the back of the menus." She added chuckling.
"Oh no, you can't let him do that mom."
"Oh this'll be so great! I can't wait to have a little Lorelai Jr. Jr. running around!"
"I hate to break it to you, but I don't think I'll be following in those footsteps. Also, aren't you the least bit concerned that I don't have a job, or a place to live, or any of that?"
"Aw come on, it's a tradition! Also, don't worry about that. You can stay with us, we'll set up a crib in your room. You can have a job at the inn if you want while you work on that book of yours, or even at the diner, I'm sure Luke will hook you up. We got you baby girl, no need to wor….. Wait, who's the father? Please don't tell me it's the Wookie."
Rory shook her head and chuckled a little. "No, it's not the Wookie, it's…"
"Rory! Get your butt up!"
Rory groaned and turned over hoping to feel him next to her, he wasn't there. "Rory, everyone's here and waiting for you to wake up!" Came the obnoxiously loud voice of her mother.
"Five more minutes!" She yelled back and turned over on her stomach.
As soon as she turned over, the door opened and she was rudely jumped upon by a small person. Rory grunted and shook her head. "Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy." and it continued until finally she sat up.
"Fine, let's go." Noa and Rory made their way out of her old bedroom and into the living room where they all were. As soon as she sat down on the couch next to her mom, Rory was handed a black mug the size of a bowl. "Bless you." She said to no one in particular.
She felt a kiss on her head in exchange for a reply. Before she could really wake up Noa was dashing off to gather the presents for herself that laid under the tree. Rory shook her head. "Ah, ah, ah, Noa you know grandma always opens the first gift."
"I know mom." Noa replied and thrust a gift onto Emily's lap. "Open it Gigi Emmy it's from me, mom, and dad." She said bouncing up and down while her great grandmother slowly opened the first Christmas present that year.
After an hour or so everyone's presents were open and Rory was smiling and stopping her third cup of coffee. Noa was laughing and playing with her new toys, her dad and grandpa were trying to put together some beautiful doll house that Gigi Emily had got her and Lorelai was lounging on the couch next to her.
"You know, this is great. This is where I always wished for our family to be." Lorelai whispered as she leaned over to Rory. Rory nodded and hummed in agreement.
"Rory, will you come here for a sec?"
Rory turned around and looked up to her boyfriend and she got up. "Yeah, what's up?"
"There's something missing in the doll house, and we need you to find it. It's somewhere in my coat pocket." He replied not looking up and just pointing to where his coat was. Rory nodded and went over to the coat rack. She found his grey Tweed wool jacket and plunged her hand into one of the pockets finding it empty. She repeated this action with the other, though this time it was not empty. As she pulled out the contents of the pocket her eyes landed on the small black box.
"Is this what you… What are you doing?" She asked as she turned around to find him on one knee in front of her.
He grabbed the box from her hands and nodded. "Rory Gilmore, I love you. I've loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you. You're intelligent, beautiful, strong, independent, and an amazing mother to our daughter. I've wanted to do this for so long, but never thought it was the right time, until now. Lorelai Leigh Gilmore, will you make me the happiest man alive, and be my wife? Will you marry me?"
Rory stood there stunned and not sure what to do at first. After a small amount of time of her standing there with her mouth open, she smiled and nodded while holding back tears. "YES! Yes, of course I will marry you!" She said as she bent down on her own knees and kissed him. They broke apart long enough for him to slip the ring on her finger.
Suddenly everyone cheered and Noa grabbed on to Luke's sleeve tugging a few times. "Grandpa, what's going on?"
"Your dad and mom are going to be married, which means they'll be together for the rest of their lives."
Noa looked at her parents and the rest of her family. "Well duh. They are my mom and dad." She said as a matter of fact and went back to playing with her toys. Which made everyone laugh.
Rory took one final breath before she knocked on the door three times. She had put this off for as long as she could, but it needed to happen. It wasn't long before the door was opened and she was greeted at first by a confused look and then a smile. "Hey, come on in." He said and opened the door wider.
She stepped through and looked around. It's not like it was the first time she had been to this hotel, she had been there quite frequently, but today felt way different. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked motioning for her to take a seat, which she did. He took her coat and hung it on a hook by the door.
"Well I was in the neighborhood and I thought it would be good to catch up." She replied sheepishly.
"You were in the neighborhood? Rory, this isn't just the neighborhood. This is New York. Besides, I'm just here for business, how did you know I was here?" He asked suspiciously.
"I have my sources. How's everything for you?" She asked wringing her hands together.
"I'm good, but really, what are you..?"
"I'm pregnant." She interrupted and he instantly sat down with his mouth wide open. "uh… Wow. Um… What?" He responded and put his head in his hands.
"Is it, you know?" He asked and she nodded. "It is."
He laid back in shock and rubbed his hands over his face hard and aggressively. "Wow… Well, what do you need?" He said quietly and she shook her head. "Nothing. I just needed you to know." She said watching him, not too sure of what to say now.
He let out a long breath and leaned forward once again. "Do you need help? I'm here for you and the baby no matter what. Just let me know how I can help."
Rory thought back to that day a lot. When she told him she was pregnant. She was scared and worried he wouldn't accept her for what happened. However, he always did. He was always there for her. And when Noa was born, he was right by her side. It wasn't until after she was born did they actually get together though.
"Rory, it's time."
Rory turned to her mother and gave her a big smile. They stood outside Ms. Patty's in Stars Hollow waiting to walk across the street to where he stood. Where she would finally become a wife. His wife. To make it official.
"You look beautiful, kid. I can't believe we're finally here." Lorelai said kissing Rory's cheek. Her mother would be walking her down the aisle, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She thought of having Luke on her other side as he was a father to her when her father wasn't in her life, and even after Christopher was, Luke still was a better father. She would never tell her dad that though, and she didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so she went with Lorelai.
Rory smiled at the scene before her as they made their way down the aisle. She saw her daughter standing next to her dad as she was the flower girl, and breaking with tradition stood on the groom side because Paris made her angry. Paris and Lane were her bridesmaids. Paris and Noa got into a lot of arguments, that to say the least are hilarious, but Rory didn't think Noa liked Paris very much. As she referred to the older woman as the rude friend of mommy's.
She kept her eyes on him though as she made her first steps toward him as his soon to be wife. When she finally was at the end of the aisle, she kissed her mom's cheek and turned toward him.
There were tears in his eyes and the biggest of smiles on his face looking back at her. He had been staring at her the whole time, and he still couldn't take his eyes off of her.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join the happy couple in holy matrimony. If there are any in attendance who wish to object, speak now or forever hold your peace." Taylor said as he stood up in between the happy couple. They had chosen Taylor because he almost had a heart attack when they suggested using anyone else.
When no one said anything, the ceremony continued on.
"Rory, your vows?" Taylor said and she sighed. She had a whole speech lined out, 10 pages to be exact, but at that moment her words didn't seem to fit. So, she went off book.
"If you asked me 10 years ago if I would be here today, I would have laughed. I never thought that this was the journey I was meant to go down. I was planning on being the next Christiane Amanpour, not a mother and now a wife. However, after everything we have been through together, I would not have it any other way. You are my absolute best friend. You get me, down to my core. I love you more than anything. I love you with every fiber of my being and I am ecstatic to be standing up here today to be your wife. To be your lover, your friend, and the mother of our beautiful little girl, for the rest of our lives. I promise I will always be there for you, to love, and cherish, and be faithful to only you. I promise not to get in the way of your work on those rare occasions it takes you away, and I promise that I will always have a book waiting for you to read when coming home." She finished with the crowd laughing at her final words.
Taylor nodded and turned to him. "Jess?" He asked and Jess nodded, he looked pretty nervous all of a sudden.
"Man, you expect me to follow that?" He asked which earned him a laugh from the crowd. "I also would have laughed had you if said I would be here 10 years ago. However, that day you told me about Noa changed everything for me. I knew that I would be there for you for everything and anything. Even before I fell in love with Noa I had fallen in love with you. In fact, the minute I arrived in Stars Hollow all those years ago, and laid eyes upon you, it was only you. Forever. Although we have not had the most traditional relationship, we have always done things our way. You are my best friend, the person who knows me better than I know myself and you are who I know I was meant to be with. It has taken us a long time to get here, but I am the happiest person in the world to be your husband. I love you Rory Gilmore."
Taylor nodded as Jess finished his vows and turned to his book. "With the power vested in me by the state of Connecticut I now pronounce you husband and wife. Jess, you may kiss your bride."
Jess smiled and pulled Rory to him. Their lips met for the first time as husband and wife and in a very uncharacteristic movement, Jess dipped Rory and the crowd went wild.
A/N: So what did you all think? I've been toying with the idea of maybe going back to fill in the moments that are mentioned here, but they would be more in depth. I hope you enjoyed it, let me know if you would like a more expanded story, or if I should leave it as is.
If you choose to leave a comment, please don't spoil the ending for others. For those who have commented already, thank you and I appreciate it!
