At a muggle hospital.
Hermione pushed as hard as she could. The unbearable pain seeped deep into her bones, forcing a heart wrenching scream from her mouth. She could do it, she had to. For her sake and the child's. She was Hermione Granger.
''One more big bush Ms. Granger'' the nurse encouraged her.
With her heart ringing in her ears she let in one deep breath and began to push harder. Sweat ran down her temple as she grasped the hospital sheets until her knuckles went white. She was on her own, this was all on her, she had to do it for her sweet little girl.
With a final cry of exhaustion Hermione threw her head back, everything was silent. Her heart dropped, why wasn't there any crying? she thought. Her brain gave a million reasons to the situation and her breathing increased. Everything was in slow motion. She sat there motionless as doctors and nurses rushed in and out of her room, ordering each other around. A pale frame caught her attention on the other side of the room.
Forcing herself to sit up, the corners of her eyes began to sting. Her vision began to blur as a nurse forced her down by the shoulders.
'What's wrong' Hermione whispered.
When the nurse gave no answer, she spoke again
'what's wrong with my daughter? What's happening?' she demanded on the edge of breaking down.
She can't die, she's too innocent, too young. This is my fault. Every breath Hermione took burned her lungs, leaving her more breathless then before, she screamed demanding the doctors to save her angel, to do whatever it takes.
In a moment of agony, Hermione felt herself slip into exhaustion, she fought and fought until one wail came soaring from the room. Everything stilled, everyone stopped. Hermione felt her vison darken but she let it be, she knew her angel was safe, she was alright, they were both going to be okay...
3 year later...
A soft patter of feet came across Hermione's room. Although she was wide awake, she pretended to sleep for her daughter's belief. The foot of the bed dipped as her daughter crawled towards her, a small giggle accompanied the light crawling. A smile made her way across her face as her daughter's blond hair tickled her cheek. A soft peck on the cheek followed by a gracious hug around her neck, Hermione began to 'stir' and envelop her beautiful daughter in a hug of her own.
'Good morning mama' the little girl whispered, pushing her hair away from her light grey eyes.
'Good morning my Angie' Hermione responded with a light kiss on Angie's forehead.
Angie, short for Evangeline, was Hermione's miracle baby. She loved her unconditionally and gave her everything she had to her daughter. Even though Angie had platinum blond hair and light grey eyes, she was identical to her mother. Polite and stubborn but can be determined when she pleases. She loves to read although she only being 3 years old, and she loved playing quidditch with Uncle Harry, Auntie Ginny, Uncle Ron, and their children. She loved playing jokes on Uncle Fred and George and baking with nana (Molly Weasley).
Hermione was grateful for her friends and the Weasley family for accepting her daughter despite who her father is supposed to be. Hermione has only told Harry and the Weasley the father and has never been one to show off Evangeline in public. With the War over, everything had settled into a new normal and Hermione had no one else to turn to but their little family.
'Mama I'm hungry' Angie brought Hermione out of her thoughts.
'Well then I think we should get up and get ourselves ready' Hermione beamed at her daughter.
Getting out of bed, she told Angie to go change, pack her bag for nana Mol's house and clean her room. While her daughter was out of the room, she took her wand and cleaned her bed while getting ready for work. She packed all her things for the day and began to make her way towards her daughter's room when the floo rang in her room. Hermione retreated into her room, as there was a small fireplace there, and saw Ginny.
'Good morning Gin, how are you this morning?' Hermione greeted and hugged Ginny as she came into her room.
'oh you know, morning sickness and all. I sent Harry back to sleep because he stayed up with me last night with this little nugget, and I knew you'd be up early so I wanted to drop by. If you want, I can take Angie to my mother since I'm planning to drop by to get a few more morning sickness potions' Ginny offered sitting on one of the soft sofas near the fireplace, rubbing her swollen belly.
'That would be wonderful, I needed to go to work early since I'm planning on picking a few new employees for the Department, who knew being the head of the department needed so may other people' Hermione let out a short laugh
'You wouldn't need new people if you just slowed down a bit, give yourself a break, you've been extraordinary as the new head for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. You are on the front page of the Prophet since you got the promotion and let's not forget the fact that all magical creatures are given a fair life. Give yourself a bit of credit, Mione' Ginny exclaimed.
Before Hermione could protest and explain the different new problem occurring and that there's still so much to do, a short squeal and a blond blur came running into the room, skirt on backwards and top inside out. Stopping to gently hug her Aunt.
'Auntie Ginny! How are you? How is the baby? Aunt Ginny did you know that I'm almost four and that when I'm four I get to go to school. Mama said that in school I get to learn about lots and lots of new things and there will be new people and new adults and—mama I'm hungry, do you think Auntie Ginny will want to try my fruit mix and I can show her how I am make toast an—' The girl seemed to ramble on and on about breakfast while the two adults laughed trying hopelessly to catch up with what she was saying
'Alright darling, I'm sure Auntie Ginny can listen to you all day, but you need to get ready-' Hermione explained calming the girl down and helping her put on her clothes properly 'Auntie Ginny is taking you to nana Mol so you can have your breakfast there.'
'But mama what are you having for breakfast? You said I must always eat my breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day, but you should too' The little girl asked with concern
'Don't fret darling, since Auntie Ginny won't be having your fruit mix, then I guess I'll have them for breakfast and take some with me for lunch' Hermione kissed her daughters head affectionately.
'Now hurry along, get your bag, I'll be there before dinner. You behave alright?' Angie nodded and ran out to get her bag and book. Hermione hugged Ginny and helped her into the fire while her daughter gave one final hug and kiss to her mother.
'Bye mama, I love you' Angie waved while holding onto her Aunt.
'Love you too darling, take care' and just like that, green flames engulfed the pair leaving Hermione to her thoughts. Today was going to be a long day.
