A.N: Hello again, everyone! I'm so sorry it took so long for this story to be updated, but I had to work on other projects in the last two months! Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

Chapter Seventeen: One Drink Too Many

"Here is your food, ladies. Bon appétit!"

Lana and Mia both nodded thankfully before staring at their plates. A few hours had passed since they had met up at the café, and the two friends had decided to prolong their unexpected date at the restaurant.

"Maya would be so jealous if she knew that I'm about to eat pizza," Mia said with a laugh. "And damn… this one looks good."

Lana shared her laugh, shaking her head. "Ema would be able to tell you fifty reasons why pizza is unhealthy, but she'd be the first one to eat it, believe me." She sighed amusingly. "It seems our sisters can be quite the handful, can't they?"

"Isn't that why we love them?" Mia argued.

"Yeah, definitely." The oldest of the two young women grabbed her knife and fork, her mouth almost beginning to water. "Well, enjoy your pizza, Mia."

Mia smiled. "Thanks, Lana, you too."

They both dug in, letting their tastebuds appreciate the tastes. It wasn't a fancy restaurant at all, but the food was far from bad. It was actually delicious, and the two law students quickly realized they would be leaving empty plates behind them.

"Care for a glass of wine, Mia?" Lana suggested, holding the bottle they had ordered. Seeing Mia's hesitance, she added, "I'm not forcing you. If you don't feel like it, that's fine."

"No, it's just that I've never really dealt with alcohol before, so I don't really know how I can handle it," the spirit channeler said truthfully. "But I guess a glass can't hurt. Just don't wanna have an accident on the way home."

Lana rolled her eyes. "Considering your driving from last time, you won't need alcohol to have an accident, Miss," she deadpanned, pouring her a glass. "How come you've never touched alcohol before, though?"

Mia shrugged, swallowing her mouthful of pizza. "I've already drunk some, mind you, but never enough to even feel dizzy. I guess I never really had the opportunity."

"Well, that makes sense." The detective-to-be brought her glass to her lips. "It's definitely not bad. Better than drinking those cheap beers Neil's brother always has in his fridge, at least…"

They both chuckled. Neil had told Mia that a drunken Lana was quite the sight to see. Now she had to admit she was curious. After all, her friend was the definition of cool and composed. She wondered how much the alcohol would make her loosen up.

The two young women ate their pizza while chatting, mostly about their respective situations or their studies. At some point, however, Lana touched upon a subject that spiced up the chat they were having.

"I apologize if it sounds like I'm intruding, but since Neil seems to insist that this was a date, I'm curious to know," she began. "Are you single, Mia?"

The question caught the Kurain-native by surprise. After a second, however, this turned into a smirk. "Why, you interested, girl?" she teased, making Lana roll her eyes. "Yeah, I'm single right now. I never really dated for long, to be honest. Like, I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to anything long-term while I'm still studying."

"Yeah, that makes sense," Lana agreed with a nod. "Considering that I'm also Ema's guardian, I don't have a lot of free time to spend outside of school and hanging out with you and Neil, either. And I can't say I've ever dated before."

Mia's eyes widened. "You haven't?" Lana shook her head. "Damn… I never would have thought, to be honest… I mean, you're so pretty! All boys should fall for you!"

The oldest one chuckled amusingly. "You're saying this just to be nice." Mia pouted, but Lana cut her off before she could say anything. "And the boys could fall; they would be falling for the wrong person. I have zero interest in men whatsoever."

"You don't?" She got the same shake of the head as before. "You're almost giving me hope, Lana!" she joked, although the question of whether or not she was really joking was at the back of her mind. It made Lana laugh, at least. "No, but that's cool! I'm playing for both teams myself, but I guess if I had to choose, I'd choose girls, too."

"Well, that's good to know," Lana joked back. "You're actually the fourth person in the world to know that I'm a lesbian, now that I think about it. I only ever told Ema, Neil, and his brother."

"Any reasons for that?" Mia wondered, seemingly curious. "You don't have to tell me if you feel uncomfortable with that."

"No, no, it's not a big deal," Lana told her. "It's just that I kept hearing homophobic remarks at school as a child. I don't think they knew that what they were saying could be hurtful, but growing up and realizing that I liked women at that time did make me question myself. I got over it, though. I'm not really the type to care about what other people might think of me."

"Yeah, you're right about that," Mia agreed, fiddling with one of her braids while sipping her drink. "It seems we both had similar experiences, too. I come from a very traditional village in which daughters are extremely important. They don't take kindly to girls kissing girls or boys kissing boys, you see?" She frowned. "What worries me is that I don't want Maya to grow up in this. It bothered me when I realized I was bi, and I'd like my little sister not to hear those things, y'know?"

Lana could only sympathize. They both noted that this was yet another thing they had in common. The list was starting to get ridiculously long now.

They carried on eating their pizza while drinking, although they both made sure to restrain themselves. Getting home alive seemed like a good plan. Soon, their plates were empty, and their bellies were filled. They both got dessert and continued to chat. They were far from having run out of topic to talk about.

"So, do you know when you'll be able to see your little sister again, Mia?" Lana asked, eating a spoonful of her ice cream.

Mia brought her hand to her chin in thought. "Let's see… I'm pretty sure she'll be busy for the next couple of weeks, so maybe next month? I hope so, at least."

"Ah, I see. Feel free to drop to our apartment the next time she's here," Lana suggested. "I have tickets to an amusement park that Neil bought for us last Christmas. Ema and I haven't had time to use them, so this could be a good opportunity if she can stay for a whole weekend."

"Oh, she'd love that!" Mia said, giggling at the thought of an overexcited Maya. "I'll try to see if it's possible. It's just that her aunt is a handful, and dealing with her is always a pain in the ass, for lack of a better way of saying it."

"Your aunt?"

"Yeah, her name's Morgan." The lawyer-to-be sighed annoyingly. "She's the definition of a witch. I think she has at least five of the seven deadly sins. Believe me, you'll never meet somebody as jealous as she is."

"She doesn't seem to be the most pleasant woman to be around," the other girl said.

Mia rolled her eyes. "You can say that again. She's always pushing Maya to do more than she can, and while I believe that she needs to work hard, I keep reminding her not to overdo it, either." She crossed her arms. "I'll probably have to visit the village soon to set things straight again. I may hate being in this village, but I can't let my little sister get overworked, either."

"I suppose not, indeed."

Another hour passed during which Mia and Lana continued to chat. They both had one more drink each, which emptied their bottle of wine. This seemed like a good stopping point, especially since Lana felt she would start getting dizzy soon.

On her hand, Mia seemed to already be past that point.

"Damn, I definitely shouldn't go too hard on the gas pedal when I get home…" she muttered. "One more drink and I'd probably lose it…"

Lana rolled her eyes. In her state, the oldest trick in the book would work flawlessly.

"I'm going to go to the bathroom, okay? Can you wait for a few minutes?" she asked.

Mia was completely clueless. "Yeah, sure. Take your time."

Of course, she didn't go to the bathroom but instead paid for their meals. She would be lying if she said it was cheap, but she didn't feel like having Mia pay with her.

When she got back, Mia was sprawled out on the sofa, yawning.

Someone will be hungover tomorrow morning… I'll definitely have to drive her home if I want her to get there in one piece… Lana thought. "Are you ready to go, Mia? I'll drive you home, just to be sure."

"Oh, thanks, Lana," Mia said with a smile. She stood up shakily, although it wasn't terrible either. Lana wouldn't need to carry her, at least. "You're too kind."

Lana said nothing to that and just chuckled. Mia didn't even question the fact that they had apparently not paid, indicating to her friend that she wasn't thinking 100% straight either.

They got to Lana's car. Mia climbed to the passenger's seat and yawned again. It was already nighttime, and she wouldn't have imagined herself going home on her bike in this state. She would just come to retrieve it tomorrow.

"Well, let's get going. Can you just tell me where you live exactly, Mia?"

"Oh, right."

She gave Lana quick directions. The next minute, the two women left the parking lot. They would need to take the freeway to get to Mia's apartment, which was on the other side of the city.

Unfortunately, something unexpected happened.

"What's that sign…?" Lana wondered, braking so she could read. "The freeway is closed?! There was an accident?!"

"T-Talk about unlucky…" Mia stated. "It's a long way around if you don't take the freeway, too…"

This annoyed Lana a bit. It was already getting late, and she would rather not drive for too long on more perilous roads with three glasses of wine in her system. However, the question was quickly answered when something else got her attention.

"I'm almost out of gas." She facepalmed. "I think I have enough to get home, but I won't be able to reach your apartment, Mia." And the nearest gas station is alongside the freeway…

"Oh. That's not good, is it?"

"No, it's really not," Lana agreed with a frown. "I'd rather not bother Neil at such a late hour if I can help it, so I'm a little puzzled right now. You don't have enough on your for a hotel room nearby, do you?"

It was a rhetorical question. They were in the center of Los Angeles. Students who could afford a hotel room around those parts of the city frankly didn't need a job. As expected, Mia shook her head no.

"Then… I guess you'll have to spend the night at my place. Luckily, Ema's staying with a friend tonight, so it's not really a problem," Lana said. "You okay with that, Mia?"

The words reached Mia's ears like a miracle. She knew it probably was the alcohol doing its thing, but a night over at Lana's place seemed like the best outcome to this situation.

"Sure. If you don't mind, that is."

Lana turned on the ignition again and started to drive again, in the opposite direction. "It's okay."

With one final nod from Mia, the two women finally got going.

"Here we are. It's not anything amazing, but it does the job for one middle schooler and her older sister."

Lana turned on the lights as Mia entered her apartment. She then locked the door behind them.

"It seems family-friendly," the youngest of the two commented. "Must be nice living here."

The other smiled. "You can thank Ema for that. She's the one who gives me ideas of how to decorate. If it were up to me, the apartment would be much blander, believe me."

Mia laughed. "That does sound like you, yeah."

Next, Lana showed her to the living room, where one of Ema's science toys had been left on the table.

"You can sit there if you want," she offered. "Make yourself at home. Want a drink? You're safe now, so if you want one more, I probably have a little something in the fridge from the last time Neil was over."

"Hm, sure. Thanks, Lana!"

"You're welcome." She walked over to the fridge and took out two beers and two glasses. She set one on the table for Mia. "There you go."

Mia nodded gratefully before opening her beer and pouring it into the glass. Lana sat on the other side of the table and did the same.

"So, um… do you often have people here?" Mia asked, taking a first sip. The taste of the alcohol made her relax.

"Not really, no," Lana answered with a shrug. "Aside from Neil and his brother Jake, almost no one. It's too small to hold parties or anything, anyway."

"Makes sense." The two ladies returned to their drinks. Mia yawned once more, feeling the exhaustion get to her. She rested her head in one of her palms, holding her glass with her other hand and staring at her friend. "You're pretty, Lana."

Lana felt her cheeks redden immediately as she almost spat out her drink. There was something in the way Mia was looking at her that made her feel very hot.

"D-Don't say that out of the blue!" she protested embarrassedly. "Besides, it's just the alcohol talking."

"It's so not, though. You're probably the hottest girl I've ever met, Lana." Mia chugged her beer in one gulp, before placing her hand on top of Lana's. "The only reason I lost that mock trial is because I was too focused on staring at you, you know?"

"W-What the-?!" Lana shivered as Mia's fingers intertwined with hers. "F-First of all, that is an absolute lie, and secondly, what are you doing, Mia?!"

The other girl pouted. "C'mon, Lana… Isn't all of this just really convenient? The fact that Neil set us up on a date? That I'm at your apartment, on the verge of being stupidly drunk? That your sister is at a friend's place?" She leaned closer. "I don't believe in coincidences, Detective Skye."

Lana's blush darkened even more as her friend placed one finger under her chin. Furthermore, she was starting to feel very hot somewhere else, too.

"M-Mia-"

"Shh." She shut her up with a finger on her lips. "Save the talking to answer just one question, Lana. Do you want to have fun with me? You know… the adult kind of fun? If you say no, I'll just go to sleep and pretend this has never happened, okay? No pressure."

Lana's thoughts were racing. The alcohol was starting to fill her mind, too, making it more difficult to think straight. And yet, deep down, this was an offer she knew she couldn't refuse.

After all, her very sexy friend had a finger on her lips and her breasts conveniently in eyesight. Whatever had overtaken Mia, it was making feel Lana in all kinds of ways.

She lost it when Mia placed a hand on her cheek, looking at her so teasingly she thought she was dreaming. Lana removed her friend's finger from her lips and finished her drink in one go before standing up and walking over to Mia.

"You asked for it, Mia Fey."

They stared at each other before Lana wrapped her arms around Mia's waist and pulled her closer. She smashed her lips onto hers and didn't waste any time forcing her tongue inside her mouth, planning to make her pay for teasing her so much.

The taste of the alcohol made them both even dizzier and drunker, but neither of them would have wanted any other way?

"My, my… such a good kisser, Lana!" Mia praised with a smirk as she pulled back. "Forceful and hungry… I love it!"

Lana's eyes never left hers as she kissed her again, even more forcefully than before, making Mia moan with pleasure.

They knew where this was headed, and neither of them could wait any longer.

"For driving me crazy at my own apartment… I'm going to make you mine, Mia, understood?"

To be continued…
