I wanted to write about another ship I like from the Owl House. Hope you enjoy.

And the timeline in this story is closer to what happened in the actual show, so Owl House: The Next Day is a dream in this particular story. I mainly did that because Amity didn't show up at school in Hunting Palismen. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm totally retconning that story, though, because that could be it's own separate timeline.

Mattholomule was in the cafeteria the day after he and Gus went to the Looking Glass Ruins with the Glandus kids. The night before, when he was in bed, he had a strange thought go through his mind. He never thought much about dating, and certainly never had a crush on a boy before...but the way he was starting to feel about Gus felt...different. It started with him beginning to feel bad for the way he treated Gus after the detention incident, and after he helped Gus repair the damage to the Looking Glass Ruins, it resulted in them sort of becoming friends.

His train of thought was interrupted by a girl who decided to sit with him.

"Hey Matt...you don't mind if I call you Matt, right?"

"Oh, you're, uh...Gus's friend, right?"

"Yea, I'm Willow. Do you...wanna talk about why you're sitting alone?"

"Oh...no reason really..."

"Well, we have an extra seat available...I heard from Gus that you two are friends now."

"We're...sorta friends...I don't know if he actually forgives me for acting like a jerk to him."

"Gus actually speaks pretty fondly of you."

Matt perked up. "Really? I...I mean..."

"You like him, don't you?"

Matt started to get flustered. Why is my face on fire right now?

"I..."

"Say no more," Willow said. "Do you want to talk to him?"

"What can I even say? 'Oh, yea, I'm sorry for being a jerk, but do you wanna go to Grom?' Even if I wanted to ask him...I doubt he'd like me back in that way..."

Willow started to feel bad for Matt. Yea, he was a jerk before, but a lot of that was because he had just transferred from Glandus. He put on an act to seem tougher than he really was, but that wasn't necessary at Hexside. It was possible for Matt to make actual friends here.

"How will you know that if you don't at least talk to him?" Willow asked.

Matt pondered for a moment. "Okay, I'll...go sit with you guys...but I want to take my time...I'm not gonna ask him out right away."

"I understand," Willow said, putting her hand on his shoulder.

They walked over to the table with Luz and Gus.

"Uh, hey guys..." Matt was really nervous all of a sudden.

"Oh, hey Matt!" Gus said. "Come take a seat!"

There was an empty space next to Gus.

Oh crud, right next to him?

"Oh, uh...sure..." Matt sat down.

"I was just telling Luz how you helped me out yesterday," Gus said.

"Ah, it's no big deal, really..."

"No, Matt, I really appreciated the help. Those Glandus kids were being massive jerks."

"Oh, but you should've seen the illusion Gus did over the whole graveyard!" Matt said to Luz.

"Seriously?" Luz said. "That must've taken a lot of power to pull off!"

"Yea, I scared Bria so badly!" Gus laughed.

Matt looked over at him, then looked away and blushed. Why does he have to have an amazing laugh?

Luz couldn't help but notice the way Matt looked away, but didn't bring it up. She didn't want to embarrass them. She was already dealing with Amity being too embarrassed to come to school. Luz had a dream that she talked to Amity, but when it came time to actually talk to her, she wasn't in school.

The school bell screamed, meaning that lunchtime was over and it was time to go to class. Gus stood up.

"So, Matt, maybe we can hang out later after school," Gus said. "That sound cool?"

"Oh, uh...sure...uh...see you later..."

Matt got up and walked away.

"What's up with Matt?" Gus asked Willow after Matt was out of earshot. "He seems more...timid than usual..."

"It may be best to just give him some time," Willow said. "He probably isn't used to having many actual friends."

Willow knew the real reason why, but she knew that Matt probably needed some time before confessing.

"Okay, well, see you guys later." Gus started walking to class.

After school, Matt was walking home. He was clutching a note that he wrote during study time. Gus saw him and decided to talk to him.

"Hey, Matt, what's up?"

"Oh...h...hey Gus..." he quickly hid the note in his bag.

"Hey, I was thinking we could hang out at the library. There's a couple books I need to return today anyway." Gus opened his bag to show Matt.

"You...read Azura?"

"Yea, this is the recent one. Have you read them?"

"Nah, I...don't really read all that much..."

"Oh, you don't?"

"No...uh...I mean...I wouldn't mind reading one of them..."

"Cool, so maybe you can get the first book and see if you like it."

"But, I don't have a library card, and my parents are out..."

"I got it covered." Gus smiled.

"Thanks, Gus..." Matt smiled back. He looked into Gus's eyes and started to get closer.

"Hey, don't mention it..."

Matt leaned forward and kissed Gus. Gus was stunned. He wasn't expecting this. Gus blushed a crimson shade of red, and Matt started to back up. Matt's mind was in panic mode. He felt he was gonna die right then and there.

"Sorry, I..."

"No, it's okay..."

"This note was...meant for you..." Matt said as he handed the note to Gus.

"Really?" Gus opened the letter.

Will you go out with me, Augustus?

"The answer's yes!" Gus said.

"R...really?"

Gus reached out for Matt's hand. Matt hesitated, but after a few seconds he took Gus's hand. Gus smiled at Matt, and Matt smiled back. They started walking down the trail to the library, hand in hand.
