Jasper woke up on a summer morning feeling like he'd been run over by a semi. His throat was scratchy and sore, his arms and legs felt like lead, and he had a headache that was relentless. With a sigh he used his nightstand to push himself up. On any other day he wouldn't have even gotten out of bed, but he had work today and knew Ray wouldn't hear it.

Jasper hopped in the shower before heading downstairs for breakfast. His parents were out of town on business and he was used to it. He liked having the house to himself. He looked at the sun shining through the yellow curtains onto the blue wall. He smiled at that and felt pretty peaceful as he ate his fruit loops.

As he put his bowl in the sink he started to sway and grabbed the counter. He waited for the dizziness to fade as he shut his eyes. He took in a shaky breath as he rubbed his throbbing head.

He realized he'd been standing there for a while as he looked at the time and hurried out the door.

Jasper had to walk there of course and it was a little over 3 miles. Now normally he wouldnt mind but the way he was feeling it might as well have been 200 miles.

As he took a break to catch his breath his breathing hitched as he went into a cough attack. He felt like there was no air in his lungs as he coughed harshly and could barely catch his breath. Finally the attack was over and Jasper breathed heavily as he leaned against a post. The world was spinning as he grabbed the post tightly. After a few deep breaths he shook his head and carried on towards Junk N' Stuff. He figured if he could just find something to do at the desk or the table then he could just sit until the day was over and go straight to bed with some soup.

Finally Jasper reached Junk N' Stuff with relief. He hadn't even seen Henry come in behind him through the door.

"Sup Jasper", Henry said.

"Oh hey Henry. How's it goin?", said Jasper with a little surprise as he turned around.

"Goin good except Piper tried cooking breakfast so basically im starving. I'm headed straight for the auto snacker.", said Henry with a chuckle as the elevator took them down to the mancave.

The two of them walked into the mancave saying hi to the rest of the gang.

"Way to be late Jasper. You were supposed to be here thirty minutes ago to re-stock the auto snacker.", said Ray annoyed.

"Aww man! Jasper! There better be some pancakes left.", said Henry as he went over to it.

"Im sorry it just slipped my mind.", he said with a sigh. Normally he would have defended himself or made up an excuse, but he was just to drained.

As Jasper walked to the table Ray was a little surprised that Jasper didn't come up with some sort of excuse. But he brushed the thought away as Henry came over.

Charlotte soon arrived and went to the desk. Schwoz was working on a phase variance indicator device in the middle of the room and Henry and Ray were playing a video game that Ray claimed had to do with crime fighting and self defense.

Jasper still sat at the table as he did research on up to date villains near or in Swellview. A harsh cough escaped his sore throat as he did his best to muffle it in his sleeve. He grabbed the tablet tightly as his vision started to blur. He shook his head hoping it would clear but it only made him dizzier.

"Jasper!", yelled Ray as Jasper jumped.

"What?", he replied.

"I just called your name like 3 times, we have a customer so get upstairs.", said Ray.

Hearing those words Jaspers heart dropped. He honestly didn't know if he could make it. Though lucky for him everyone was pretty distracted.

Slowly Jasper pushed himself up and walked toward the elevator as he wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead. He stumbled as he stepped into the elevator and he hoped no one noticed. As the elevator closed he shut his eyes and leaned up against the cold wall. Before the elevator door opened he coughed harshly into his elbow. When he pulled his arm away he noticed little red splotches on his sleeve. He didn't know how serious that was but he couldn't think about it right now, he was to exhausted.

Walking in from the back Jasper saw the customer and waited for them to finish looking as they picked out a backpack in the shape of a trout. He rang it up as the numbers on the cash register blurred.

"Uh I think it's 4.50...my change..", said the guy looking at Jasper.

"Right sorry. Here you go.", he said as his vision cleared thankfully.

"You okay man? You look sick.", said the guy who seemed genuinely concerned.

"I-I'm fine. Thanks. Have a good day.", Jasper said as he went into the back room towards the elevator. He sat on a box that was next to the elevator as he brought his shaky hand up to wipe the sweat off his forehead. He could feel himself burning up. On top of everything there was now a dull pain forming in his chest.

The dizzyness was back full force and black spots formed in his vision as he tried desperately to push them away. Jasper leaned his head on the wall behind him as he closed his eyes and tried collecting himself.

"Where is Jasper!? He's been up there for like thirty minutes what could possibly be taking so long?", said Ray irritated.

Charlotte pulled up the camera feed of the shop. She checked the different cameras until she found Jasper in the backroom by the elevator.

"Really!? Sleeping on the job? Just when I thought he couldn't get any more incompetent! He has really gotten on my nerves today.", said Ray frustrated.

"Relax Ray just use the intercom.", said Henry who was a curious about Jaspers slightly odd behavior.

Ray walked over to the desk as he pressed a button and spoke into a small speaker.

"Jasper. Jasper!", said Ray over the speaker.

Jasper opened his eyes as he quickly checked the time on his phone. He got up quickly, the dizzyness coming back stronger now than before and hurried into the elevator. He rubbed his throbbing headache as he dreaded the lecture he was sure to get by Ray once he got down there. He rubbed his eyes as he walked into the mancave with feverishly hot blurry vision. He tried his best to walk to the table in a straight line as Ray started off.

"Did I really just see you sleeping on the job? We may not have a lot to do around here when there's no criminal activity going on but I don't pay you to sleep okay?", said Ray.

Jasper didn't really know what to say. He couldn't think straight and didn't know whether to look at the Ray he saw on the left or the right.

Schwoz, Henry and Charlotte stood by silent, not sure if they should bud in or not. Ray looked a little more upset than usual this time so they decided to say nothing.

"I-I'm sorry Ray you're right I just didn't get that much sleep last night.", said Jasper who was proud of himself for being able to come up with a convincing lie through his foggy brain.

"Just sweep and take out the trash alright.", said Ray.

Jasper drew breath to respond but decided he was to exhausted and just let out a sigh as he headed to the back.

Ray was all ready for his response to whatever he expected Jasper to say but was surprised when he didn't put up any kind of fight. Actually they were all a little surprised. He lost his train of thought as Henry handed him the controller.

Jasper couldn't hold his shoulders up any longer, slouching as he got out of their sight. He stifled a painfully harsh cough that rattled his whole body causing him to put a hand on the wall in order to hold himself up. He saw the new and much larger red splotches in his elbow, but he really didn't have time to care about it right now.

He opened the door to the large room they used for storage and supplies. It was rather large and almost totally dark if not for the light coming in through the door. He couldn't find the light switch as he squinted for the broom, though his legs didn't really feel like moving at that moment and his head throbbed brutally.

He wasn't really thinking straight as his head was spinning and his brain was melting from the intense heat. He figured the dust on the mancave floor could wait as he slid down the cement wall. He leaned his hot cheek against the cool concrete with relief, closing his hot feverish eyes.

Just a few minutes and he'd get up to sweep.

Just a few minutes...

The room was hot.

His first thought was wondering why the storage room was so full of heat. Jasper felt a feeling of dread when his internal clock told him some time had passed and he knew Ray was going to be even more furious.

He thought he'd better get up as quick as possible and start sweeping. But his limbs werent wanting to move and his eyelids were heavy.

As his eyes cracked opened he realized something rather concerning, this wasn't the storage room. In fact he was in the mancave, which really confused him. He lifted his heavy arm to wipe his blurry eyes.

The pain and the heat were so overwhelming he couldn't help but let out a quiet whimper of confusion and agony. He wished he could escape it somehow. Where was everyone? Why couldn't they help him? Didn't they know he was suffering?

He looked around blurrily, looking for someone or an explanation but found nothing. If there was something, he was to out of it to notice.

Jasper felt the weakness he'd felt grow stronger as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Black dots formed in his vision as he thought he saw all four of his friends coming through the back carrying something big. He tried to call out but wasn't sure if anything escaped his lips.

His vision was going in and out as he heard muffled voices. He tried to understand but it was to late, everything faded to black.

Then next thing he was aware of was a feeling of stiffness and extreme exhaustion. He then realized that he wasn't in as much pain anymore. Well certainly less than before. And he was still hot, but he didn't exactly feel like his brain was melting.

Jasper tried clearing his foggy thoughts as he struggled to open his eyes.

He felt heavy and beaten. His throat stung and his torso ached.

His vision was surprisingly clear. But he couldn't exactly say the same for his understanding of what had happened. He layed on a gourney in the middle of the mancave with an iv in his arm, tubes in his nose, wires on his chest, and bandages wrapped around his torso and upper chest.

Jasper lifted his heavy hand to block out the lights that seemed painfully bright as he let out a somewhat painful cough.

"Here, drink this.", said Ray quietly who just about startled Jasper. He held out a cup with water that Jasper took and brought to his mouth with his shaky hand. Realizing just then how dry his throat was he downed the whole cup greedily.

"Thanks.", he said in such a hoarse voice that surprised him.

He looked around seeing Schwoz sitting at the end of his bed, and Henry and Charlotte sitting around the table, all of them asleep.

He attempted to clear his throat as Ray checked a screen that displayed his vitals.

"Ray? What is going on?", he asked followed by a small cough.

"What am I dying or something?", Jasper said with a weak chuckle.

Ray didn't laugh though. In fact Ray looked as if he really was.

"You've been pretty sick Jasper.", said Ray quietly trying not to wake the others.

Jasper sort of figured that. But judging by Rays face it was worse than he thought.

"What happened? The last thing I remember was...", Jasper struggled for a second, "I remember going to get the broom from the back. It was hot in there though...I couldn't keep my eyes open...".

"After you came downstairs you went to the back to get the broom like you said. When you didn't come back I went to look for you. I found you leaning against the storage room wall unconcious. You were shaking, pale, and burning up. I called Henry and we quickly brought you to Schwoz.", Ray started.

"When we got you to the middle of the mancave your pulse was slow. Your fever was at 105.6 and your lungs were damaged. One of your lungs collapsed and Schwoz had to do emergency surgery. The surgery went well but your fever kept rising. It got so high you started seizing. We had to quickly get a big bin full of ice and put you in it. Since then your fever has gone up and down. Finally today it's been slowly dropping.", said Ray.

Jasper wasn't really sure what to say. "What caused all this?", he asked.

"Schwoz said it was severe pnemonia. You nearly died Jasper, I'm sorry I didn't notice something was wrong.", said Ray slightly ashamed.

"We all felt pretty bad for not noticing you were sick. Henry nearly passed out he stayed up so long and Charlotte wouldn't leave your side either.", Ray paused as he looked down. "Look Jasper...I'm sorry I thought you were slacking off. How could I not see there was something wrong?! I just yelled at you thinking you were being incompetent.", finished Ray as he thought back to how he'd treated Jasper.

"Ray it's okay. I'm good at hiding things. Plus I can have my incompetant moments. You have nothing to be sorry for okay? I'm fine.", said Jasper with a comfortingly reassuring smile.

Ray nodded his head with a feeling of relief.

Jasper laid his head back down with a tired sigh as Ray leaned back in his chair.

Jasper closed his eyes, happy to go back to sleep.

"Get some rest buddy.", said Ray quietly as he watched Jasper drift off. He smiled, happy to see he was okay.
