Summary: Dazai's eyes brightened up at the flash of light, and he quickly wished.
I wish Chuuya were my dog.
The shooting star turned around.
Dazai froze on the spot, unable to make sense of how it could happen. He remembered that shooting stars fell down to the Earth because they couldn't resist gravity, then how come?

Today was the joint picnic of two kindergartens: Port Mafia and ADA. Dazai wasn't one for outside activities, mind you, for he preferred staying inside. But if Chuuya were together with him, then Dazai would tolerate it, because playing with the redhead was so fun. He still remembered how disappointed he felt the moment he learnt that Chuuya didn't go to the same kindergarten as him, because that meant he couldn't meet Chuuya all the time. Even though the two kindergartens shared the same playground during break time, it was still not enough.
He wanted to play with Chuuya more.
Dazai pouted when Fukuzawa sensei literally had to pull him to the ADA room to sleep. Although the two kindergartens did almost every activity together during the day, they still needed to go back to their respective room at night time. Chuuya didn't seem to mind the separation at all. He smiled widely at Dazai while waving goodbye, and then chased his friends to the Port Mafia's sleeping room without even a glance back, totally unawared of Dazai's dispirited mood.
If it's so, then nu pakachi! The secret plan will commence!
With that in mind, Dazai waited for the light to turn off and Fukuzawa sensei to be out of the room to sit up immediately. Everyone was sleeping by now, and Dazai should have been sleeping just as Fukuzawa sensei thought, but tricking him was easy peasy. There was not a single time Dazai didn't succeed.
Grabbing Kunikida's blanket (his friend wouldn't need it, Dazai could assure you, as the blond kicked it off all the time), Dazai rolled it up with his tiny hands to make a lump about his size. Once satisfied with the result, he climbed down from the bed, laid his own blanket on top of 'Dazai no.2' and sneaked out of the lodge house.
Watching the stars sparkling in the night sky, Dazai was super excited. He remembered reading from a book that shooting stars fell down to the earth more often than people normally thought, but because the city lights were so bright, they blocked out almost all the starlight. It's only at remote areas where there were less light pollution such as this mountain could you see the galaxy in all of its beauty.
Yup! That was his plan! He was gonna wish upon a shooting star to have Chuuya always by his side!
People always said doing that would make your dream come true. After tonight, Chuuya would be Dazai's!
A few minutes of walking later, the brunette found a clearing where he could see the starry sky without obstruction. He dusted a tree root and sat down on it, drawing his legs to his chest to keep warm, his eyes not leaving the sky once all the while. He couldn't keep a giggle from escaping his mouth imagining how tomorrow would turn out, which definitely would be so much fun. Dazai was sure he couldn't let Chuuya know how Chuuya became his, but Chuuya always seemed to have a blast every time they played together. Surely Chuuya wouldn't mind.
Oh! Speak of the devil!
Dazai's eyes brightened up at the flash of light, and he quickly wished.
I wish Chuuya were my dog.
The shooting star turned around.
Dazai froze on the spot, staring in disbelief at the disappearing celestial light. He remembered that shooting stars fell down because they couldn't resist gravity, then how come?
Blinking in confusion for several more seconds, Dazai decided this must be a strange scientific occurrence that he hadn't known about yet. He would look into it later when he came back home.
Feeling a bit dejected, the brunette cast his eyes down then looked back up immediately, clenching his small fists in determination.
If that shooting star didn't work, he would find another one. No problems.
But strangely, even the second shooting star…
I wish Chuuya would be by my side 24/7.
The shooting star skidded to a dramatic stop before hastily going back into space.
What! Dazai's mouth hung agape. That shooting star again? If you don't plan to make my wish come true, then go away. I'm not kidding.
But the third, then the fourth, and so many more came, but all of them quickly pulled back right after he made his wish even though the more wishes the brunette made, the more he lowered his standard. Dazai felt tears welling up in his eyes. If the next one didn't work, he would go back. He wouldn't play with shooting stars anymore.
And then when another light shot across the sky, Dazai thought of Chuuya's beaming smile which looked like the sun had decided to come down to visit earth itself, and made a wish.
-O-
Later that night, the kindergarten teachers found Dazai bawling uncontrollably at the lodge house's lobby, and no one could do a thing to ease the child's distress. Dazai only choked out that he wanted Chuuya when they asked for the reason, so, because there was no option left, Fukuzawa-sensei had to ask Kouyou-sensei to get Chuuya down there.
Chuuya grumbled with annoyance when he was woken up in the middle of the night, crawling further into the softness of the bed. Kouyou-sensei had to patiently coax the tiny redhead for a while for Chuuya to finally let go of the blanket. Blinking awake groggily, Chuuya rubbed his eyes with one soft palm while Kouyou-sensei led him out of the bedroom.
When the two of them reached the end of the staircase, Chuuya realized Fukuzawa-sensei was up as well, and he was sitting with someone.
Huh, isn't that Dazai? But why is he crying?
Dazai, upon noticing that Chuuya was there, immediately hopped off of the chair he was sitting on and ran straight over to tackle Chuuya in a crushing hug, sobbing loudly. Any sleepiness left vanished instantly when the redhead froze in shock, eyes darted from Kouyou-sensei to Fukuzawa-sensei to find the answer, but both of them shook their heads helplessly. Eventually, Chuuya returned the embrace, looking at his friend's trembling form with concerned eyes.
"What's wrong, Dazai?"
Dazai was still clinging onto him hard while sobbing his eyes out, choking on his tears.
"...dun-sniff…dun wanna...be hated by Chuuya…"
Chuuya tilted his head. "I didn't hate Dazai, though?" He patted his friend's back gently, hoping it could ease his distress somehow.
Dazai shook his head furiously, tears still streaming down his cheeks.
"B-But…the shooting stars didn't allow…"
After that, they learnt the reason why Dazai was bawling at the lodge house's lobby at one in the morning. It was only until then did Fukuzawa-sensei know one of his students had sneaked out from the bedroom undetected. Dazai, after explaining everything, refused to let go of Chuuya no matter what, so the teachers had no choice but to let him sleep with Chuuya that night. For Chuuya's part, ever since hearing the story, he was livid, so livid that after Kouyou-sensei closed the door to the PM kids' bedroom, and after he felt Dazai's fist which curled into the front of his shirt loosened — the brunette must have cried himself to sleep — Chuuya closed his eyes and called for Arahabaki in his mind to bring him to Heaven.
When they arrived, Chuuya unleashed his anger on the Shooting Stars God, who was a direct subordinate of Arahabaki. He only calmed down a little bit when the pitiful God prostrated in front of him to explain.
"But your grace, we couldn't, in our wildest dream, dare to make that boy's wishes come true."
Chuuya crossed his arm, remembering what Dazai said minutes before. He felt his blood rushed to his head again. If it's only that, why couldn't it come true? He definitely doesn't hate Dazai.
"The first wish was, 'I wished Chuuya were my dog."
Arahabaki next to him let out a snort, but quickly contained his laughter although it left the Calamity God's shoulders shaking violently.
Chuuya wanted to faint. Dazai…wished for what?!
"The second wish was, 'I wished Chuuya would be by my side 24/7'."
Any attempt of suppressing his laughter was thrown out the window when Arahabaki openly burst out laughing in amusement. Chuuya felt his cheeks turn a crimson color. What in high heaven did Dazai think?!
And then the Shooting Stars God went on a list of Dazai unsuccessful attempts, and the more Chuuya heard, the more he wished the earth would open up and swallow him whole. If this were the case, he could hardly blame the stars for refusing. Though it was odd all the wishes were related to him. Chuuya was starting to regret making a scene in the first place. He put his face in his palm, sighing loudly.
"However…" The Shooting Stars God cowered in his spot, sounding nervous all of a sudden. "The last wish, 'I don't want Chuuya to hate me', could be granted easily, but the shooting stars that descended at that time, upon seeing that boy's face, were all hastily pulling back even before they heard the entire wish, so…"
And that night, Heaven was turned upside down by an absolutely furious redhead. Arahabaki was very enthusiastic in assisting Chuuya in doing so.
-O-
Opening his eyes after disconnecting from Arahabaki, Chuuya rubbed soothing circles on Dazai's back. His friend, even in deep sleep, was still clinging to him desperately.
To be honest, Dazai's first few wishes were so weird that even Chuuya wasn't eager to grant any of those. But the last wish which made Dazai so sad to the point of bursting into tears was the shooting stars' fault, and Chuuya didn't want to see Dazai's gloomy face tomorrow at all, so he carefully patted the brunette's cheek.
"Dazai, wake up." Chuuya murmured so as not to wake the others up.
"...Chuuya?" Dazai slowly opened his eyes, which were still puffy from crying, making Chuuya's chest tightened. He bit his lower lip, gently stroking the skin below his friend's eyes. He didn't like seeing Dazai like this one bit. He hated shooting stars.
"Come with me."
-O-
This was already the second time there were students sneaking out of the lodge house. If Kouyou-sensei knew about this, Chuuya was sure he would be grounded until the end of the trip, but right now, Chuuya couldn't careless about her reprimanding, because Dazai was more important.
Since they couldn't use Chuuya's ability to fly, the two of them ran together hand in hand until the thickest part of the forest gave way to a vast meadow, and above them was the night sky stretching out endlessly with its beautiful starlight.
Dazai hung his head, stubbornly refusing to look up. Chuuya had to cup his friend's cheeks in his hands and guided Dazai's face to look at him.
"The shooting stars earlier were wrong. I've talked with them already. Now make a wish again, and this time what you want will come true."
Dazai tilted his head, blinked, and then laughed.
"What's with talking to shooting stars? Chuuya is so funny."
Chuuya puffed up his cheeks. It's not like he was lying! He already had Arahabaki back him up that this time, the shooting stars would have to fall all the way to the earth properly.
"I didn't lie. Look up, and you'll see."
Chuuya's eyes followed his hand which was pointing at the night sky. Thousands of stars were looking down at them, some of those shooting across the black velvet. The meteor shower was descending, and Dazai only needed to wish.
Dazai looked up at Chuuya's hand, and couldn't help letting out a surprise 'oh' at the breathtaking sight. They stood there silently for a while, until Chuuya's patience ran low and he couldn't fight the urge to ask.
"Did you make your wish?"
Dazai looked back at him, voice even.
"Nope."
"Whaaaat?! Hurry up!" Chuuya squeaked. "What if they end?!"
Dazai chuckled at how worked up Chuuya was, then flung himself at the redhead. Chuuya heard his friend's laughter ring in his ears happily.
"I don't need shooting stars anymore. I have Chuuya already. Promise you will stay with me?"
Chuuya couldn't understand why, but he felt that his cheeks were burning hot. He looked at Dazai's smile which looked like the sweetest candy on earth, and then grinned widely, pressing their foreheads together.
"Idiot, of course I'll stay with you."
"Always?"
"Always."
That day, the two best friends exchanged their "vows" under the sparkling sky, while meteor showers after meteor showers were decorating the velvet night above their heads. Only a very pitiful Shooting Stars God was made to command his stars to fall down endlessly without any stopping point in sight.
End. =)))))))
P.S: I don't know what I just wrote anymore. =)))))))) Oh these cute cute kids. =))))))))
P.S 2: Whether Dazai did wish or not is left to your imagination. (⊙‿⊙)
