I've written a similar storyline, but I like it. I'm on vacation this week, but redoing a bedroom, so I will be hit or miss this week. I love reading the reviews and thank everyone for them. Also, Newberry, Maine is fictional to my knowledge.

Starting Over Again

Chapter 1

Christine Slattery smiled at the cannoli baking in her oven and mixed a mascarpone, cream cheese, marshmallow mixture for the inside. She had scrimped and saved, and then saved some more, and was finally able to buy a coffee house and bakery.

She had ended up in a tiny coastal town in Maine, called Newberry. For the first few years, there was no phone lines or internet, and then it was just very disconnected. Her girls flourished, and loved helping her in the coffee house. They often talked of their father, and missed him deeply, but had no way of getting ahold of him. No car, and the only way in and out of Newberry was by boat. So far, the girls were content to stay.

She and Mike had been divorcing. Now she didn't even know why. Back then, she complained he wasn't home enough. She picked fights with him. Now, she would give anything to talk to him again. She just didn't know how to look for him. Someday, Hannah or Kaitlyn would leave to look for him.

Mike

After retiring, Mike had searched for a place where people didn't know who he was. He had given up ever finding his daughters, or Christine for that matter. He missed them, of course; but he was tired.

He did an internet search, and found out about a little town in Maine without phones or internet. It was exactly what he needed and craved. There was a road into it, but the easier route was by water. Mike chose to drive there. He'd have to find a house once he got there, but that was fine.

It was a long drive, but Mike didn't mind because the scenery was breathtaking. He pulled into the tiny town, with one main street. On one end, there was a church, with a courthouse on the other end. There was a grocery store, a coffee shop and a hardware store in the middle. No chain stores, which appealed to Mike. There was also a bed and breakfast, which he got a room for. He walked towards the coffee shop, hoping he would at last score a sandwich. The sign above the door said 'CC's Bakery,' which was a little odd because CC was his nickname for Christine. He opened the door and was immediately shocked to see the woman behind the counter.

"Christine?" Mike said in total shock.

"Mike?" Christine asked in response.
