Star Over The Sea Of Sorrow
(Jimmy Bryant Version)
(Based On "Maria")

The most beautiful sound I ever heard:
"Maria." "Maria." "Maria" "Maria..."
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word...
"Maria." "Maria." "Maria" "Maria..."
"Maria, Maria..."

The beautiful Overlander girl, with fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, comes to his thoughts.

"Maria!"

I'm sorry I wasn't good enough for you; but I promise, I'll do my best with my life. Even though I'll never be good enough, at least I can be better

I used to know a girl named Maria,
But since that day, that name
Will never be the same
To me!

He remembers seeing the Sun rising what must've been at least the tenth time that day, illuminating the bright blue and green ball everyone calls Mobius; that everyone calls home. Everyone save for her, because she never got to see its beauty in person, only from a distance.

Maria!

I'm sorry I couldn't protect you, but I can protect the world. And maybe, just maybe, that's enough

He isn't sure if he's talking to her or himself.

I fight for a girl named Maria,
And, thanks to her, I'd found
How wonderful a sound
Could be!

He remembers her laughter as they ran through the halls of the station together.

Maria!

I will never give up, not until my last breath; I will fight for my friends and for what's right until I can't

Say it loud and there's music playing!

He remembers just being with her. Not for any purpose, goal, or outcome; just being. Something no one had ever done with him before.

I was just a project, a test, a tool, an instrument, to everyone on there; everyone but you

Say it soft and it's almost like praying...

He remembers simply staring out the window with her, at the Sun, the stars, and, most importantly, the world; the two of them hoping that one day they could go to it.

I'm sorry only one of us got to make it here. I'm even sorrier that it was me

Maria...
I'll never stop saying Maria!
Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria!
Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria!

He repetition of her name makes him remember his last words to her.

Maria!

How pathetic, how worthless, it was, it is, compared to the beautiful ones she told me, and compared to what she deserved

Say it loud and there's music playing!
Say it soft and it's almost like praying...
Maria,
I'll never stop saying Maria...

Ever

He stops walking and shuts his eyes. He sees his sister, smiling.

I'll never forget you

The most beautiful sound I ever heard:

He smiles.

You'll always be with me, because a piece of me never left that room, just like you didn't

He opens his eyes and gazes on the station.

"Maria..."

AN: This entire thing, just like the last one, came about in a spur of the moment cause I remembered that West Side Story exists and this song is in it and that just gave me the inspiration to do this. This was really enjoyable to write in one go and I hope it was even more enjoyable for you to read. If you don't know anything else about me, you can just leave now.

For those from my main story:
What was that about not working on stories until main one is finished? Anyways, if you're wondering why this is its own oneshot and just not in the story proper, it's because this is a story that stands completely on its own and could perfectly mesh in with the canon for Shadow (Both Archie and the games); could being the operative word of course, since you'd have to buy into the personal thoughts of Shadow, but I feel that they're a believable extension of just his SA2 characterisation. But do know that this is 100% a part of the story, this is canonically what happens after Rouge leaves
