2 years after Season 8 Episode 22

Master Cam

"Sitibi?" She frowns because the name sounds so familiar.

"Yes." The guide answers. "We are helping those people. That is where we are headed."

She tries to juggle her memory but it still isn't clearing up. The Sitibi people…?

"They have been doing relatively well for the past three years. Their dictator, Dibala, was going to perform genocide on the entire population but he expired during a medical procedure in the US." The guide continues.

Dibala! Of course! How could she have forgotten? That dictator was literally on the news all the time and she was the doctor who treated him. It was her ex husband who…

"After Dibala's death, the people celebrated and by the time his top general returned to take his place, chaos had erupted. Rather than attempt to quell the rebellion, the general fled. The Sitibi people have been doing well but in the past year, drought and famine have ravaged the land and they need our help." The guide continues.

The bus stops at their destination and they exit.

"Ah! There comes our other doctor." The guide points.

"Hello!" A redhead woman runs over to them. Dust billows beneath her feet.

She frowns because the redhead looks a little familiar.

"Hi." The guide shouts back.

"Martha M Masters!" The redhead reaches out her hand.

"Allison Cameron." She introduces herself.

"House's funeral!" Masters exclaims.

"Yeah!" Cameron nods.

This should be jolly good fun.

The Family

Allison Cameron had a family once, actually four families. There was her old brother and her parents, all of whom are now dead. She would be too if she had attended that family dinner. She'd been stuck in a medical conference and a mass shooter had walked into the restaurant where her family was. That was a year ago.

Then there was her first husband, who was already dying when she met him. Allison had married him anyway, perhaps out of pity, or a heroic complex, or because she knew that she would never have to commit to him.

Robert Chase, her second husband, was the only man whom she truly loved but like everything she touched, she ruined him. He gave her every chance and she blew right past them. At some point, she pushed the limits and his love for her ran out. Before their Season 6 Episode 17 meeting, she had convinced herself that it was his fault for killing Dibala but she knew that that wasn't true.

She felt guilty for running away from him.

After Robert, she wandered for a year, before settling down with Warren. He seemed like a nice guy at first but it wasn't really him that drew Allison. It was Claire, Warren's daughter.

Claire was just two months old when Allison saw her and she was smitten by those raisin sized eyes. She'd always wanted a child but never had the chance. Robert would have made a great father but they didn't work out. Afterwards, Allison destroyed her first husband's frozen sperm out of guilt and given up the idea of children altogether.

Now, Claire was in the picture.

Warren liked Allison and Allison liked spending time with Claire. Claire's mother had died in childbirth and Warren was a widow. Naturally, his vulnerability led him to the first woman who would look at him, his ER doctor, Allison Cameron.

The relationship began about three weeks before Season 8 Episode 22 and it lasted about five months because it was doomed to fail, like all of her relationships. She left him at the altar.

It was miserable, losing all four families and working in the ER nonstop.

The work at the hospital was becoming too routine, too mundane and eventually, Cameron decided to try something new.

Dr. Cameron is without borders.

The People

"Hello and welcome." Another guide steps forward as Masters and Cameron step out. "Come to your tents."

The tents are surprisingly spacious and luxurious, with beautiful decorations and flowing drapes.

Masters throws her stuff down, falls on the bed and hugs it.

Cameron takes some time to admire the beauty before also sitting down.

"So, how did you meet House?" Masters asks.

"He chose me for the team." Cameron answers. "You?"

"Cuddy assigned me. I was an intern. Probably only worked because Cuddy and House were dating at the time." Masters explains.

Cameron is not surprised by the revelation but a lingering question pops up.

Cameron wonders "Why wasn't Cuddy at the funeral? When I went there, I learned that Foreman was the dean but…?"

"I do not know exactly. Cuddy and House had a bad breakup. He went around with so many prostitutes. Then, he got married to Dominika. It was insane. I wasn't up for the whole diagnostic doctoring job, so I left the department. A year later, House was dead." Masters mentions.

"Yes, 'dead.' "

The women turn around slowly and in horror at the new voice.

Standing in front of them is a clean shaven man with a gold prosthetic leg.

"Hhh…" Masters and Cameron pinch themselves and blink incessantly but he does not disappear.

"Call me Dr. Poolhose!" House instructs them. "Now, follow me to the exam room."

Elsewhere

"Glad that your sister is taking care of the boys today." Jessica Adams Chase leans into her husband.

"Yeah!" Robert Chase strokes his wife's wavy hair as they look on into the vast ocean.

"I love you." Jessica says it everyday but it never gets old.

"I love you too!" Robert kisses her.

They have been very happy during their past year of marriage. It is impossible to believe that just two years ago, they were only flirting together. Not to mention, she had asked him out and he had turned her down. So much has changed since then.

They are happy.

Poolhose

"Snacks?" Dominika offers snacks to Masters and Cameron, while Stacy pours the tea.

Blythe sits there and smiles at them.

"They're in shock." House excuses them.

"So you have been alive this whole time?" Masters stutters.

"Yes." House answers casually.

"And you decided to move here?" Cameron asks.

"Actually, after Wilson's death, I returned to Kentucky and stayed there for seven months. Eventually, I contacted Stacy and Dominika who were already married by then. Six months ago, I was caught by the authorities but we cut a deal. Basically, this is my parole and I have to serve here until next week. After that, my record is clean and I am free to go. Mother, Stacy, Dominika and I will be heading to Washington." House gives them the summary.

"Wow." They say.

"So, let me see what is new with you. I see." House reads silently.

Masters and Cameron raise their eyebrows because it is so unusual for House to not say his insults out loud.

"Let's go save some lives!" House leads them out.

Recalls

"I like you but I wish that we also had more on our team." Masters muses.

"Who was on the team when you were there?" Cameron asks.

"Thirteen came back right when I left. Foreman and Taub were there. And Chase." A warm blush cover's Masters's sunburnt cheek.

Perhaps if she had stayed, then she might have worked up the courage to tell him how she felt. He would have never gone out with her but the courageous risk would have been worth it.

"Robert was my husband." Cameron interrupts Masters because she sees what is going on and it angers her.

"And now Chase is married to Adams. Actually, her name is Jessica Adams Chase now. Fine woman. Met her thanks to Cuddy. Cuddy sent me to prison after I drove my car into her house. That is where I met Jessica Adams." House fills in the gaps.

"Robert got married?" Cameron stutters.

In the back of her mind, Cameron had always known that Chase could have found someone else but she kept up the false hope that he would be in love with her forever and never move on. It was a terrible thing to wish upon him but it made her feel better. Now, her imagination has been shattered and the gravity of her loss is more apparent than ever.

"I was actually at their wedding." House muses. They looked happy, especially when I revealed myself and scared them. Funny because I was the one who shipped them and they decided to get together after I fake died."

Before Cameron can slap House, a woman comes up to House and shakes his hand.

"Thank you for all that you do, Dr. House." She muses. "Means a lot to us.".

House smiles. "I appreciate it but really, you should be thanking God for taking out that nasty Dibala."

Masters rubs her eyes in disbelief. Since when is House nice and since when does he believe in God.

A single tear rolls down Cameron's eye and several more soon follow. Robert, Robert is the reason that these people are able to breathe. If he hadn't killed Dibala, then they would have been genocided. Robert saved all of these people!

And she had used his good deed as a scapegoat to bail on him, as an excuse for the fact that she was incapable of love. She left him in his darkest time and he loves someone else now.

It's too late to go back now, so she might as well stay here forever.
