Julianus Snow's mind drifted through the day, barely present, for his consciousness was elsewhere. He simply fluttered his hand in a simple gesture and the room emptied itself of people and he was left in a short-lived peace. This was his 32nd year as President and, in all the years he had overseen the Hunger Games, none of them had quite reached a peek of excitement as they had before the rebellion of the 75th.
People were starting to get bored, deaths came quick and the Games became too predictable, with the careers winning almost every Games. The Capitolites had begun to look elsewhere for entertainment. This did not reflect back on Julianus well. In his father's time, the Hunger Games were feared and loved, almost no one slept just so they could watch all night, for fear of missing even one tiny detail. One hunting trip. One kill.
He wanted his Games to be watched like that.
This year's Games, the 107th, would be his redemption. He would include everything; feasts, mutts, natural disasters, a twist. But he would stretch it out. It wouldn't be a quick, five-day Games, because who would find interest in that? No, he would make it last for as long as possible, while making it as interesting as possible. He wanted nothing boring, he wanted everything dangerous.
He wanted fear, betrayal, loss and love. He wanted to tear apart everything 'hope' stood for.
He wanted to unravel the minds of every tribute and force them to succumb to their fears, surrender their very selves to the Games. He wanted to present the Capitol with a real show.
And a real show, they would get.
