So I decided to write a historical Naruhina Story!

They had left. Right after the prayers were done, they had all left following their new queen. The only remaining person standing under the rain was a young indigo woman.

The late King's only child.

Hyuuga Hinata.

She stood in front of her father's grave letting the rain wet her and blend with her tears.

"Father." She said absently, not understanding how everyone found the strength to leave right after he was buried.

His councilmen.

His Knights.

His queen.

All the people who used to stand by his side.

They all left without another look back, and already talking about the queen's coronation.

"Princess." She heard before feeling herself being shielded from the rain. She looked at the black umbrella over her head, before she looked down once more.

Neji.

"You don't have to wait for me." She quietly said standing to her feet.

"You'll get sick." He said as she looked back at him. "Let me escort you back to your chambers."

She slowly stood up looking at her cousin's unwavering face. The man who was a brother and a friend to her. The one person who shielded her from anything and protected her with his life.

She never really felt like she was an only child with him around.

He was there every time she failed her father's expectations.

He was there every time the royal council made her lose hope in herself.

He was there when her mother died a few years ago.

He was there when her father married the current queen.

He was there every time the queen made her feel like less than dirt.

And here he was again, now that her father was gone.

In her nineteen years of life, she had always remembered him being here, and she was grateful.

"Thank you, Ni-san." She sniffed slowly wiping her cheeks.

He slightly bowed and lifted the umbrella higher to shield her from the rain.

"You have to stop crying. The queen will scold you if your eyes get puffy tomorrow." He softly said and she nodded sniffing. "You have to be strong from now on, Hinata. Hold your head high."

She nodded straightening up.

Hinata took a seat by the window in her chamber looking at the bright full moon shining through the window.

She was still fully dressed and couldn't even find the strength to stand up from her seat. Before Neji escorted her to her chambers, she had tried to talk to the queen, but her servants told her that she was indisposed.

She was hoping to at least give the queen some company, but that was a foolish thought of her. Asahi never really liked talking to her, expect if they were reprimanding words. Those reprimanding words that only turned to insulting as the years went by.

She looked toward the big door of her chambers and she heard three heavy knocks. She furrowed her eyebrows and slowly stood up walking toward them. her confusion increasing as she saw the guards just outside looking at her with blank expressions.

"Princess Hinata." She looked at them with a small nod.

"Is everything alright?" Her soft voice echoed in the room.

She noticed the one in front take a noticeable gulp before clearing his throat.

"The queen has ordered for you to be taken to the dungeons." He announced and Hinata's blood ran cold.

"I-I beg your pardon?" She asked taking a tiny step back.

What was going on?

Her mind was racing.

Why would Mother order something like this? What was happening?

"Please follow us, Princess." The guard said once more with his eyes lowered to the ground and took another gulp.

She took a hesitant step forward.

Her heart was pounding against her chest as she followed the guards out of her chambers. All sounds around went unheard as her mind kept racing wondering why the queen would order this.

There must be some kind of mistake. She kept repeating to herself throughout the long walk to the dungeons.

Once they've reached the dark corridors of the dungeon, Hinata's fear came to life and her body started trembling as she stared the guard's back in front of her. They stopped and opened a heavy metal door causing her to jump in fright at the loud sound it made.

The guard moved to the side with his head still lowered and gave her space to go inside the dark cell. He followed once she walked in and went further in.

Hinata heard the sound of chains before she looked at him to see him coming back to her with heavy cuffs in his hands.

"Please forgive me, Princess." He lowly said before going down, slightly lifting her dress, to cuff both her feet.

Hinata looked down at the cuffed ankles, being overly aware of the cold metal around her.

He stood up and quickly walked to the door and walked out before closing it behind him.

She turned to face the closing metal door with furrowed eyebrows.

"May I speak with the queen?" She asked but her request went unanswered as she heard retreating footsteps.

Hinata looked down at her shaking hands before letting her eyes move around the cell and landed on the small window where she could see the full moon shining in the sky.

She was cold and it was dark. But most of all she was confused.

She looked back toward the door and jumped in surprise at the sight of the queen looking at her coldly.

"Mother." Hinata lifted her gown to quickly move toward the queen.

She was only ablt to a few steps before the chains reached their limit and she was forced to stop.

"Mother." She repeated when Asahi's cold pupil less grey eyes looked at her.

"Who are you calling Mother?" Asahi asked looking at her with her usually cold look.

Hinata looked at the older Hyuuga with the same innocent eyes she always looked at her with, causing Asahi to let out a small cold laugh.

"You simple minded girl." She said letting the corner of her lip move up in satisfaction. "Your mother was a weak and pitiful woman. Don't give me the same title you gave her."

The queen looked at the young woman's frame from the other side of the door. A young woman she had spent years trying to break in piece with every difficult tasks and degrading words she could imagine. Yet here she was.

The princess was the perfect copy of the previous queen, both on the outside and on the inside. She was the exact copy of a woman she absolutely despised.

Asahi let her cold eyes roam the young woman long indigo hair, before settling into her eyes. Those lavender eyes that looked right back at her with so much confusion and sentiment that she wanted to rip them out.

Not yet.

She wanted to torture the princess. She wanted to break her in every way she could do when the king was still alive.

She wanted the princess to suffer to same she had given her mother. But she would take her time and let her enjoy the darkness of this cell for a little while.

She would take her because she had more important matters to take care of. She had her own objectives to reach. Her first objective was that she needed the other six territories' and their leader on her side for this campaign, she needed their devotion.

"I am not your mother." Asahi said looking around the princess' new environment. "And if it wasn't clear before, these are your new chambers, until I decide on your fate."

As Hinata heard the queen's retreating footsteps, her own legs gave in and she fell to the floor letting her eyes water and tears freely flow down her face.

She didn't know how long she sat in there crying, but all she knew is that the moon wasn't shining through the window anymore and move lower, probably a sign that dawn was coming.

Where was Neji?

Was he okay? Did the queen hurt him?

Who was the queen? Why was she behaving like this?

Was it because of the throne? If it was, the young princess didn't understand because she had made it clear that she wanted the queen to take over her father.

So why was doing this?

Hinata was so lost in her own world and was frightened by the heavy door opening.

She looked up wiping her blurry eyes to see her cousin's familiar silhouette walk toward her.

"There's not a minute to waste." He said taking out a keep and undid her cuffs.

"Ni-san?" She looked up, looking at the long brown-haired man slowly, skeptically, not knowing if he was with her or not.

Or if he was on the queen's side.

"Thank God you're okay." She heard him say.

Hinata felt her body sag in relief as her cousin gave her the reassurance she needed.

"N-Ni-san." She quickly stood up, causing light headedness but Neji grabbed her before she could fall over.

He straightened her up and looked down at her.

"You have to change." She said handing her a bag. "Wear these clothes." He added pushing her further into the cell before turning his back to her. "Quickly, Princess."

Hinata didn't another second and started taking her the multiple layers her dress had, despite her confusion. When she looked into the bag, she found a dress usually worn by the servants and she quickly put it on. It was so much lighter and easier to wear than the ones she was used.

As her heavy dress hit the floor, she noticed the ring, caused by the cuffs, on her small ankles.

"Wear the cloak too. And take off all your jewelries." Neji said with his back still to her.

And she did.

"I-I'm done." She softly said and he quickly turned to face her.

He grabbed her previous dress, jewelries and headpieces and stuffed them all in the bag before grabbing her hand and moving in quick steps outside of the cell.

She gasped as she saw some guards, unconscious on the floor. The only one left standing was the one who had escorted her from her chambers to the cell. He kept his eyes on the floor and slightly bowed as they walked past him.

"Please stay safe, Princess." She heard him say before Neji started running while tightly holding onto her hand.

Hinata just had the time to give the guard a small 'thank you' before they turned into a corridor. The dress she was wearing was so much lighter than her usual garments, so it was easier for her to move around, so she tried her best to follow Neji's fast pace.

She felt like her feet were on fire. She had never run so much and she barely understood her situation. She didn't even understand why Neji went to such lengths to get her out.

What if he got in trouble too?

What if the queen found out that he helped her?

"Ni-san, w-" she started but he cut her off.

"You need your breath, so don't speak and listen. You're leaving." He said and her eyes snapped to him widely. "Don't worry about me. I have an alibi. If you want me to stay safe, you'll follow my instructions and do as I say."

They reached the end of the dark hallway where a wooden door was. He pulled a key out of his pocket and opened it.

He turned to her giving her a serious look. "Stop crying and listen carefully." He said and it was then she noticed that her tears hadn't stopped flowing. "You're leaving and you'll stay hidden."

"W-What?" She asked with wide eyes looking from the wooden door to him. "But Mothe-"

"She is not your mother." He snapped looking her dead in the eyes. "She wants you dead. She wants to kill you. So you need to leave and protect yourself. That's all you need to know for now."

"Bu-"

"Hinata, we don't have much time now." He pressed grabbing her shoulders. "I told before that you needed to be strong. Now more than ever." He said. "So, listen. If you're safe, I'll be too. So please listen to me."

She looked at the wooden again as agitation took over her body. "W-Where will I go?" She cried in panic. "I've n-never been outside t-the p-palace. I don't w-"

"Hinata, listen to me!" He said in an authoritative tone. "You'll get out using this passage."

Neji pulled the cloak tighter around her. "From there, I want to run straight ahead, don't stop no matter what and don't turn. Just go straight ahead. At the end of the tunnel, get out and keep running straight ahead, you'll see a big tree with red flowers with my initials engraved on the trunk, then you turn right and keep going straight."

"Ni-san." She sobbed shaking her head wildly. "C-Come with me, p-please. I c-can't g-"

"Hinata." His tone was stern. "I have to stay here. And you have to be strong now. Trust me. After turning right, just keep running and don't stop until you see a river. I'll have a friend of mine waiting for you. Put your whole trust in him, okay? You do what he tells you and stay with him until I come get you."

"F-friend." She repeated trying to process everything that's happening.

"Yes. He was my squad's leader in the last war." He quickly explained. "Do you understand, Hinata? Please, just do as I say. Don't change directions no matter what."

"Y-Yes." She nodded.

"Good." He said and started pushing her through the door. "Be brave. I'm your brother. I promise I'll come for you." He said before closing the door behind her leaving her in the dark.

Hinata let her fear take a seat back and pushed her shaking body to run down the dark tunnel. She furiously wiped her eyes once more as she felt more tears coming out of her eyes. However, she pushed her body harder when the light at the end of the tunnel.

At the end of the tunnel, get out and keep running straight ahead.

She remembered Neji's words and ran. It was then she noticed that it was early in the morning, it was still dark but she could tell that the sun would start coming up soon.

And she was thankful for that. She took deep breath and coughed and she looked around the forest felling the need to vomit. Her chest hurt and she was out of breath.

Her feet were burning and it seemed like her lungs were on fire because of how out of breath she was. She never ran. No matter what happened, she was always told that she should walk at a slow and dignified pace.

And here she was running from the same people who thought her that.

The young princess sniffed pushing her body harder.

She almost cried in relief as she saw a big tree with red flowers a few steps from her and she slowed down letting her lavender eyes scan the trunk.

And there she saw Neji's initials.

She took a deep breath and wiped her tears before turning right and started running again.

She strictly followed Neji's instructions, wanting nothing more than to get to the river so she could finally stop running.

It seems like the relief of seeing the river made her body realize how exhausted she really was. Feeling like she didn't own her body anymore, she finally let her exhaustion take over her. However, her body didn't hit the ground, she just registered a pair of strong arms catching her before she could.

"You owe me big time, Neji." She heard a deep baritone voice say before she allowed darkness to envelop her.
