Hello my fellow Readers! New story is starting! I wanted to try something a little different with this story. Whenever I would have the characters think something, I would use the quotation marks and italicize the words, but I'm not gonna do that for this story since technically, the story is being told in their thoughts anyways. Like this for example…

"Wait, why did I think that?" I thought to myself, I never want to go back to that memory at all today. I really need to get my thoughts together.

See? The second part of the sentence is technically this person's thoughts, so instead I'll do this…

Wait, why did I think that? I never wanted to go back to that memory at all today. I really need to get my thoughts together.

This version just makes it easier for me to write and makes sense, at least in my mind.

Also, I just wanted to say that I'm back in school and I won't be able to write as much as I would love to.

Sorry for the "long" Author's Note, but here is The Start of a New Adventure… kinda

Chapter 1: A Rocky Start

*January 5, 2020 12 PM.*

Location: Outside the Lookout Garage

Rocky's POV

I swear, these pups need to learn how to fix up their vehicles and stop asking me to do it. I was just fixing up Everest's snowcat since the engine started to sputter everytime she would try to start it up, and I'm the only other pup, other than Ryder, who knows how to fix up the engine. (A/N: See? The first sentence would be quoted and italicized, but I didn't do it since the rest of the paragraph is also Rocky's thoughts)

"Okay, there's some damage here, low on oil, more damage here, jeez, this snowcat really needed a checkup a couple of months ago!" I changed the oil and replaced the damaged parts with newer parts.

"Hey Rocky!" I hear a feminine voice call to me. I recognized it as the owner of the Snowcat I was fixing up

"Hey Everest" I replied to her, moving my head out of the hood

"How's my Snowcat looking?" She asked me

"It's almost done, you were low on oil and had some damage"

"Really? Well thanks for fixing it up for me Rocky"

"Yeah no problem, hey I got a question I want to ask you" I said as I stuck my head back into the hood

"Ask away" Everest said, waving her paw

"I overheard you and Marshall talking about wanting to put Ash in puppy school, have you decided what you wanted to do?" I said as I took my head out of the hood

"Me and Marshall really do want to put Ash in puppy school since he IS still a pup, but the only thing holding us back is his firefighter training and him wanting to be a member of Paw Patrol. I haven't told Marshall this, but I just thought it's too late for him to go to puppy school"

"Well I mean puppy school is just for a year total, Ryder had all of us go to puppy school, even Marshall and Chase shortly after they became official members despite both being 3 years old when they went, making them the oldest in the school."

"Maybe, I just don't know"

"Ask Marshall what puppy school was like for him, since he did go later than Ash if you put him in before the end of this year. But it's up to you both in the end, but it's still not too late for him to attend, and he isn't going on missions yet, so his firefighter training will just have to be after school"

"That's true, I'll think about it, thanks for asking Rocky"

"No problem Everest, also, mind getting me some water to drink? I been working on this for an hour" I asked her

"Sure, be right back," Everest said back to me. As she was leaving, she tripped on an adjustable wrench and face planted on the concrete.

"You okay Everest?" I asked a bit worried

"Yeah… I'm good" She said back to me, her voice partially out of air

"I swear, you're gonna become your mate" I said jokingly

"Shut your mouth Rocky, just because me and Marshall are together doesn't mean I'm getting clumsEEEEE-" Everest said to me before tripping again and falling onto the concrete

"Are you sure about that?" I asked her

"Okay maybe I'm getting something from Marshall" Everest said before going back inside the Lookout to get me some water to drink. I went back to work on the Snowcats engine to make sure there wasn't anything else that needed a tune up or repair, and luckily, the engine was fully repaired.

"Welp, I'm done working on her Snowcat" I said to myself, proud of all the work I have done

"Hey Rocky! Here's your wate-WOAH" Everest said to me before tripping for a 3rd time today, but this time, the water was coming directly at me.

*SMASH!*

"AAHHH! *cough*, *cough* WUCY! WHEWE AWE YOU?! THE BUIWDING IS FWOODING!"

"ROCKY?!"

"WUCY?!"

"Rocky!" I was jolted out of my thoughts "You okay?!"

"Uhh yeah, sorry if I worried you Everest. Mind telling me what just happened?"

"Are you sure you're okay? I spilled the water and it just splashed your face. I apologized since I know you hate getting wet, but you were just… silent, quiet. Then I came up to you and shook you out of your train of thought" Everest explained to me

"Oh, well thanks for telling me Everest, and it's fine, at least I got my drink" I said, hoping to lighten to mood "Also, you Snowcat is fixed, you can take it back now"

"Thanks Rocky, are you sure you're okay?" Everest asked me

"Yes I'm sure, thanks for worrying about me, even if it's over something small" I replied before getting a nod from Everest and left. I never expected to go back to that moment over water splashing my face, afterall, Marshall still drentches me with water whenever he washes his truck, but I didn't go back to that moment in any of those accidents, maybe I need to talk to Max.

*3 Hours Later*

After 3 hours of work, everyone's, except Chase and Rubble, vehicles were fixed up. When Chase and Rubble come home from their jobs, I'll have to check up on their vehicles. As I entered the Lookout, I saw Skye eat her food just as fast as Rubble when he eats.

"Whoa Skye, what's the hurry?" I asked as she poured more food in her bowl

"Nothing, I'm just really hungry" was all she said, not even looking at me

"What did you do today for you to have 2 bowls of food? A single bowl is enough to fill you up!"

"Hold that thought" Skye finished her second bowl and then took her head out of her bowl and faced me "Lets see, I woke up, had 2 bowls of food for breakfast, check my equipments condition, watched some TV, took a nap for about 3 hours, then came in here to eat lunch"

"4 BOWLS?!" I toned down from my outburst "I mean, it's not 'Rubble amount of food' but from what you said, that's not enough activity to make you need to eat 4 bowls of food!"

"Huh, I guess you're right, now that I think about it, this began around September"

"Maybe wanna get a checkup from Marshall, this sounds different than usual"

"Yeah, I'll talk to him, well I'm gonna go walk around town so, see you later Rocky"

"Bye Skye"

After my talk with Skye, I went to ask Ryder something.

"Hey Ryder"

"Hi Rocky, what do you need?"

"I was wondering if I could leave the Lookout for some time, I'm going to go visit… her" I said with some sadness in my voice. Ryder crouched down and scratched behind my ear, one of my favorite spots to get scratched.

"Yeah, of course Rocky, just make sure you get home before dinner" Ryder told me before standing back up. "Before you leave, have you checked up on everyone's vehicles?"

"Other than the two pups who got themselves a job, yes I have"

"Thanks Rocky, but before you leave, you're gonna need these" Ryder said before handing me some flowers "These were for… someone else, but you need these more"

I, and everypup, knew who Ryder was starting to fall for, but kept it a secret so he didn't feel embarrassed. "Thanks Ryder, she'll like these"

I made my way towards my truck getting inside in the process, but before I was able to leave, I was stopped by somepup, my best friend.

"Going on a date?" Zuma said to me, but his tone was… off to say the least. Normally he would make fun or just joke around with topics like this, mainly towards Chase and Marshall whenever they spent some time with their mates outside of the Lookout, but he didn't. I pushed it off to the side, thinking he was just not having a normal day.

"Oh no Zuma" Before I continued, his expression seemed to become more… happy? Again, I just pushed it off to the side "These are for… somepup else, somepup important to me" I finished.

"Mind if I come along? I'm pwetty bowed wight now" Zuma asked, his voice having a hint of hope in it.

I was gonna decline due to the seriousness of my situation, but as I was staring into his amber eyes, something in me just, didn't let me say no. If anything, it told me to say yes. Besides, it's probably a good idea to have someone with me anyways.

"S-sure Zuma, I don't mind" I said, motioning him to sit in the passenger seat, to which he smiled at me and got in my truck.

"Whewe do you want me to put this?" I turned my head and saw that Zuma was holding a leather bag that was sitting on the passenger seat.

"Handittomeplease" I say quickly

"Okay? Hewe" Zuma then handed me the bag. "Why did you say that so quickly?"

"Umm..." Was that really all I could formulate?!

"Umm what?"

"It's just important to me, I might tell you why later"

"Okay, well let's go Wocky!"

I could feel a blush on my muzzle forming hearing Zuma say my name like that. Wait, why am I blushing? I always hear Zuma say my name like that! So… what's different about it now? I pushed it to the side and hoped Zuma didn't see my blush.

The drive there was quiet to say the least, for a pup like Zuma, he was quiet most of the time, occasionally asking a simple question here and there, but soon also was just as quiet as I was. I was about to ask him what got him to be so quiet, so I took a quick glance at him and saw that he fell asleep. About 10 minutes after we left the Lookout, it began to rain.

Great, just great, but just because it was raining doesn't mean I'm gonna stop, I had to visit her. 20 minutes later, I parked my truck. I woke Zuma up, said pup making a cute yawning noise in the process. Wait… what? Did I just really think tha- whatever, I'll worry about it later. After Zuma fully woke up, he saw that it was raining outside.

"Whewe awe we Wocky?" Zuma asked me

"To where I wanted to be" I said back to him, putting on my cap in the process

"Well, it's waining, whewe awe you planning to go?" I didn't respond, I just opened the door and grabbed the flowers on my way out, getting a shocked look from Zuma. "Dude! You hate watew! How awe you not panicking?!"

"You'll see why I'm not making a big deal about it like I normally do Zuma, come on"

We walked across the street to a big marble pillar, and I placed the flowers beside the marble pillar. I saw that Zuma was about to ask me a question till he saw what the marble pillar had inscribed on it.

May your souls Rest In Peace

I could already feel the tears coming out of my eyes seeing her name on the Memorial, and I took a glance at Zuma, who could see I was about to break. Instead of talking, Zuma gave me a hug, to which I returned one of my own, only tighter. I was still holding in my tears till I felt Zuma nuzzle me, and soon he said something to me. At first, I thought he was gonna pull the basic "dont cry", but he didn't, he said something completely different.

"It's okay to cwy. If you want to cwy Wocky, you can and I'll be able to heaw you and comfowt you"

Hearing Zuma basically give me permission to let my tears out is what made me cross the bridge. Hard and Fast.

"RRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" I could feel Zuma flinch, but he still didn't let go "LUCY! WHHHYYYY?! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE?! OOOOOOOOOOH LUCY! WHHHHHHHYYYY?!"

Zuma said nothing, he just kept holding onto me even when I let go of him and felt my body give in and fall, he still was holding onto me, gently setting me onto the ground.

"WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE ME LUCY?! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE STAYED WITH MEEEEEEEEE! WHY DID GOD HAVE TO TAKE YOU BAAAAACK! WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Zuma was holding onto me tighter and tighter with every painful word that came out of my mouth.

"PLEEEEEASE LUCY! COME BACK! OH GOD I WANT YOU BACK! AHHHHHHH!" Finally, did I start to lower my painful voice "Please come back to me Lucy! Please! Lucy! Oh god please come back to me… Please Lucy… Please… I love you"

Only then did I stop talking. I don't want to accept that she is gone, but how could I? If she did survive, she would've tried to find me, or at least hear on the news or something that I was a part of Paw Patrol in Adventure Bay, but she didn't, so I just have to accept that she didn't make it, no matter how much I tried to deny it. After I had released most of my tears, I began to talk, my voice breaking still.

"S-so you probably u-understand w-why I visited this"

"Is it because you'we finally mouwning for…" Zuma paused for a bit before answering "...Lucy?"

"Y-yes" I was silent for about a minute before I talked again. "I'm gonna tell you a story that I only want you to know, at least for now. No one else knows this story except Ryder, and I'm telling you this because I trust you Zuma, and you're my best friend. It's very personal to me and I ask that you don't tell anyone else"

"Okay Wocky, I pwomise"

"Thank you… well I need to back this story up a little in order for some things to make sense"

And that's where I'm leaving this chapter off!

Welp, this is the first chapter and story that I wrote while going back to school. Just to remind everyone, I'm NOT done writing stories just yet! The only difference is that my time to write is gonna be limited.

As of now, I only got chapter 2 done, and I think I won't be updating this till I have the rest of the story finished. I just wanted to upload chapter 1 so you know that I'm not gonna leave you an unfinished promise.

Besides that, I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
