"What a pretty sunset."
Today is very rare day. Rarely she and Katrina can go into the town with just two of them. Usually, Keith and her other friends will joined her. Sometimes, even Katrina's own friends joined them. Now, as two of them heading home, just walking instead of using carriage, she catch a sight of a beautiful sunset. Everything looked as they had been coloured in orange light with golden sheen. Both of them got enveloped in woeful silence as they watched the sunset. Katrina break the uncomfortable silence.
"Why you suddenly invited me to town?"
"You know that i-i...just want to talk to my own twin, without anyone knowing. Just two of us."
"Is...that so? Well, we still got time until we reached our manor."
The silence fall over them once again. Ever since that day, they distanced themselves from interacted with each other that much.
"Rina, do...do you regret it?"
Katrina, once hearing her question, sighed. Right now, the night already come and luckily, they already in Claes's territory.
"Frankly...I mean, even though I was able to find somebody that I love so much, I have to let her go."
She glanced at Katrina as she said it. A tears already started to formed at Katrina's eyes. But the same also happened to herself.
"If..if only i never succumbed to my desire that day..."
"No."
She cutted off Katrina's sentence.
"Not "I". It's"we". You succumbed to your desire, but I'm the one that responsible for that desire. I...i tempted you."
"Maybe. But," Now tears stained both of their cheeks and they stopped walking. "If that doesn't happen, then we wouldn't have suffered so much."
"Why." She surprised herself with her own question.
"Why do you have to let go of me?"
"Eh?"
"In our society, there almost no place for love. Only power, prestige and wealth matter. Both of us have obligation to be married and give birth to an heir or heiress for our respective husband."
"Huh?"
'But, there are noble who's choose love over power and wealth. And sometimes, they are not blessed with any heirs. But they stay together. Why is that?"
She waiting for Katrina to answer.
"Is it because they love each other?"
Smiling, she confirmed Katrina's answer.
"Yes. Nothing more, nothing less." She continued. "And we both love each other and so we're together. Is that so wrong?"
She already knew the answer to that question. Their relationship is incestuous. It's a relationship that society, noble or commoner alike, absolutely wouldn't approve of. She always ask this question to herself. Why would society not approve of it? It's because possible deformity in the resulting children? The "error" in the gene of the child?
But, if they don't "reproduce" in this relationship, will the society permit their love? No, there's no way it would be. That logic would be criticized to the end by the world.
But...if they can keep hiding this, maybe they can live not only as twin, but also as a lover too.
Suddenly, she can feel Katrina's hand touched her cheek, wiping away her tear. When she looked at Katrina, their lips met each other. After almost like a century passed, they ended their that kiss. And followed by a hug from Katrina. Ahh, so warm...
"I'm sorry for hurting you so much. But there might be even more painful things from now on..."
She returned Katrina's hug.
"Shall we hurt together then?"
And so, her secret relationship with her own twins begins.
