Calix Asteri, Son of Themiscyra

Chapter one

Diana, princess and daughter of Queen Hippolyta, was slowly pulling ahead of Philipus, the Commander in Chief of Themiscyra on Paradise Island. The two were racing each other on the beach on horses; the finish line being a sword stuck in the sand 3 miles away at the start of the race. Philipus was not jealous of the princess, in fact she was proud that her training of the girl had paid off. All of a sudden a fireball fell from the sky, stopped in mid-air about ten feet in front of them, and then slowly lower to the ground. When the fire disappeared from it, both Diana and Phillipus saw that it was a strange rod-shaped craft, four-feet long with a chrome covered exterior.

"What's that thing Phillipus", Diana asked.

"I don't know your highness. Stay here while I check it out," The right hand woman of the Themiscyran queen ordered her protege. She slowly approached the object and cautiously poked it with her sword. Suddenly steam came from the front part of the device, and a opened up on it to reveal and interior, inside of which was a infant child covered with a red blanket with the letter S sowed into it! Whatever Phillipus has been anticipating, it hadn't been that.

"Where did you come from, and what on Earth are you doing in here?!" Phillipus asked speaking aloud. She pulled the red cloth off of the baby, and upon gazing on it's naked form realized that it was a boy. The male baby smiled at her and babbled in baby language while reaching his hands toward her, clearly wanting to be picked up. While she bitterly resented men, Philipus couldn't help but smile at the boy's cuteness. Plus, a baby posed no threat to her or her fellow amazons. She quickly scooped him up in her arms and he responded by grabbing her nose. Phillipus felt the boy's strength, and was amazed that a baby could be so strong.

"Let me hold him Phillipus please?", Diana pleaded. She had seen Philipus take the baby out, and like her mentor was enamored with the tiny being. Without a word, the Commander in Chief handed over the male infant to her princess. She held him with one arm and wiggled her finger in front of his face. He quickly grabbed it, and it was Diana's turn to marvel at his physical prowess.

"He'll grow up to be very powerful."

Phillipus nodded in agreement to Diana's declaration. " If only I knew where he came from," she thought out loud.

"I can explain that."

The two looked up and saw none other Hera, the queen of gods, creator of the Amazons, and the guardian of Paradise Island, which was separated from the mainland after Heracles in his men raped the Amazons and were driven off. The island protected by a magical barrier that none could see or pass without the gods approval. Teacher and student immediately bowed to their goddess.

"No need for that now", Hera said.

"Take my hands and let's go see your sisters."

They did as she instructed, and in a flash of light, teleported to the throne room of the Queen.

Of all the things Queen Hippolyta and her bodyguards expected to see that day, it was not Philipus holding a rod-shaped object, Diana holding a baby, and the queen of gods herself standing next to them. Diana spoke before her mother could say anything.

"Mom, we found this baby in this rod-shaped object on the beach today. Mrs. Hera says that she knows what it is and is going to tell us."

"That's right," Zeus's wife agreed. She was about to use her powers when the Queen interjected.

"May I hold the child your grace?" she asked addressing the goddess. Hera nodded and took the baby Kryptonian from the princess's arms. He had been reaching for her since she appeared, mesmerized by her glowing eyes and aura. Hera walked over to Hippolyta and gave her the boy. As she stroked his hair with one hand, he grabbed her thumb with his tiny hands and started to suck on it. The queen didn't want to admit it, but this male child touched her heart, even though she hated the opposite sex.

"He's gorgeous and beautiful."

What was most noticeable to the ruler of Themyscira was the infant's blue eyes that shone like Sapphires.

"Now then," Hera spoke up.

"Let's get down to business."

Her hands glowed as she raised them and made a portal to the past appear. All the Amazons present saw a man and woman putting an all-too-familiar baby into a sheep-sized metallic rod.

"I really wish you didn't have to do this Jor-El. I would like to at least go with our son."

"You know that is impossible Lara. There's no place for us out there in the universe or on Earth. Our son has nothing, binding him to Krypton. He will create a new place for our people on earth.

"We wouldn't have to send him away at all if the Kryptonian council listened to you and not harnessed krypton's core, or evacuated the planet earlier and took your warning about it exploding seriously."

"You can't focus on the past Lara, our son's future must take our priority."

Looking at his precious Kal-el, he said "My son, we're going to send you to a planet with a yellow sun. There you will have superhuman abilities, that will make you far stronger than ordinary earthlings. Not only will you be safe from the bad ones among them, but you will be able to save those of them that are good. People will be inspired by your actions and work to better themselves and their fellow humans. I believe you will save their world Kal."

With that Jor-El closed the cigar-shaped ship and pressed buttons and control panel, causing it to immediately lift off into the sky through an opening in their roof. After that, he went to his wife and kissed her. Lara and Jor-El hugged each other for a few moments before the building started to violently shake, and eventually both were consumed by giant explosion. Minutes later the entire planet Krypton exploded.

Every Amazon in the throne room felt terrible pity for the child in their presence, especially Hippolyta . She couldn't imagine sending her daughter off somewhere and never seeing her again.

"Do you understand now why I brought the boy to the island, my queen," Hera asked.

"I want you to train this boy to control his powers. Without you and your sisters instruction, he will have a much harder time functioning in man's world and protecting other humans from terrestrial and extraterrestrial threats. Worse, he may be corrupted by some malevolent human, man or woman. I know it won't be easy, for you or for him, especially given the history Amazons have with men. If you can't do this, I won't force your hand."

"No, great Hera. Struggling will make me a stronger Queen, and the hardships Kal-el will have to endure on Paradise Island will make him a much more humble hero and mighty warrior. Great pains are great gains."

"True words were never spoken," Hera I said approvingly, with a smile on her face.

"When the boy gains and has fully mastered his abilities, he shall leave Themiscyra and go to man's world. Whether he will change it as his parents hope is beyond my foresight."

Diana ran up to her mother and asked " Does this mean I'm his new big sister mother, he's my new brother, and your new son?"

After a few moments hesitation, Hippolyta nodded in the affirmative. With a cry of delight, Diana snatched the baby from her mother's arms and rubbed her cheek against his. She had always wanted a sibling, male or female.

"I know what we should call this maleling your majesties," Phillipus stated while walking up to Diana. She knelt down and held out her hands. The princess granted the commander-in-chief's silent request and gave her the baby. Once she had the Kryptonian, Phillipus stood up and said, "Lets call him Calix Asteri."

This story takes place in 1987, the same year Phillipus, the black Amazon first appeared in DC comics. In her original appearance, she resented men to the point that she wanted Steve Trevor immediately killed when he crashed on Paradise Island, and criticized Diana for letting him live and healing him. However I don't believe she would ever harm a baby, even the male one. I also think that one is gorgeous and strong as Kal-el would soften her disposition. Calix means Chalice and Asteri means Star in Greek. A rather appropriate name I think!
