Kakashi Hatake knew he really shouldn't hold it against her, at 7 years old he knew the exact reason why his father had killed himself, it hadn't been a well-kept secret around the village after all.

He stared down his cloth covered nose at the girl that stood to his chin, dark eyes blinking as she scuffed her feet nervously, still dressed in black as if mourning clothing would make it better. His eyes lifted to the male behind her, Banko Higurashi watching his youngest daughter with sharp eyes as they flicked between them. He had some nerve, the boy thought angrily, to treat him just as unfairly as his father had been treated.

'He killed himself because of you,' Kakashi thought with a scowl, his mask tightening as his jaw clenched. 'Because you turned your back on him too.'

"Kagome."

The girl turned quickly, the ends of her hairs brushing against Kakashi's chest before spinning back to the silver-haired chūnin. Hastily, as though she forgot entirely she was holding a tray in her hands, she shoved it forward. Maybe it was meant to be a peace offering, but he wanted nothing from the girl or her family. "I'm sorry."

Kakashi had heard her the first time she stated the words, shoving his hands in his pockets and glancing away. He didn't want her apologies any more than the treats in her hands… "It should have been your father."

Kagome cocked her head in question, ignoring her father as he barked her name a third time; a clear summon that the girl didn't want to hear. Her hands slacked on the edges ever so slightly, offering ignored as she lowered it against her small stomach, realization dawning that he wasn't going to take it from her.

"If my father hadn't gone back for yours…" sharp grey eyes snapped to the girl's face, watching it fall slowly as his voice hardened, "your father's the one whom should be dead, not mine."
