Wind swept earth

Lapping water beneath my feet

The fire burns hot

While by face is buried in dust

Broken signs, rusted with age

Horseshoes thrown careless to the side

The world mistreats things like these

They treat my horse and I too this way

I ride all day, camping at night

The bugs, they bite, and the stars, they hide

The trees whisper their night lullaby

Crickets chirp, squirrels forage as I close my eyes

My horse he stamps, impatient to run

I awaken to a branch, as broken as I, glistening in the early sun

Why oh why? I scream in my head

The townspeople never fought in the war yet they want me dead

On and on my weary horse trots

Never finding shelter at night nor welcome shade when its hot

The hills and valleys I ride and climb over

Till I set my sights on a quiet ranch house and out front is yellow clover

There are horses there grazing in the grass

and soon I can forget all that's happened in the past

For I arrived at a home for me, my horse and I

A home, a brother, and a life that I can truly call mine

The End
