Prologue: A Joyous Phonecall

It was autumn, in a very windy day in Aspertia, where a young, energetic trainer called Nate Black lived. His best friend was Hugh Tartal, a lawful and mature, yet wild 14-year-old. To Nate, it was a day like all the others, he was taking care of the wild Pokémon that constantly appeared in his house, as his mother, Joy Black, that works for the Pokémon Center in the city, however, taking a break in Autumn. The injured Pokémon loved her, as she and her partner Spring, the Blissey, were pure and kind-hearted, traits that reflect on her son, which also knows basic medical care. After taking care of the Pokémon, Nate invited Hugh to hang out.

Hey, Hugh! – Said Nate Black with a smile on his face.

Yo, Nate! How's it going? – Responded Hugh, with a rather serious face, even though he was happy. If you know how Hugh, you'll learn the different, expressionless faces he makes for each strong feeling. He's laid back, but sometimes, his face seems to tell otherwise.

The usual. – Spoke Nate once again. – I was chilling in my room, watching Pokémon Battles on TV, until I heard Pokémon downstairs. I rushed to the door with my medical kit, and me and my mom made many 'mons feel recovered and rejuvenated! How about you?

Eh, I just was training my newly-hatched Tepig! It was my Starter Pokémon! – Said Hugh with a slightly more emotional face. - My parents, as you know, work on a Daycare in Nacrene, so they're mostly far away from home, so I was in charge at home. Me and my sister were playing on Route 19, while battling with Tepig with the Patrats, Lillipups, Purrloins and the occasional Audino to show my skills to my precious little girl!

The conversation goes on in 10 to 20 minutes, but back at Nate's house, something happened that would change their lives as they know it.

*The Xtransciever rings*

Hey, Joy! Long time we don't see each other! – Spoke a woman on the phone.

Aurea Juniper? Wow! I can't believe it! It's been 2 years I lost your contact on my Xtransciever! – Responded Joy Black, just as excited as Spring, which was a good friend of Fluffy, the Cinccino, Juniper's partner.

Oh! So THAT'S why you didn't call me anymore! I was worried I might have upset you or something! – Said Aurea, somewhat relieved.

Oh, Juniper, you! I wouldn't ignore my best friend! – Joy responded feeling nostalgic, and Blissey waved to Fluffy, who was immediately excited by the sight of her best friend. – Out of the question, but why did you call so suddenly?

Oh, I almost forgot! I sent my assistant Bianca to Aspertia to do some research on the wild life of Route 20 and I wondered: "Would Nate like a starter Pokémon?". So, just in case, she's with three Pokéballs, each of them with the traditional Unovan starters, and 2 Pokédexes, in case one breaks! – Said Aurea Juniper, somewhat calmer.

Oh, Juniper, thank you so much! My son Nate talks nonstop about his love of Pokémon, and even helps me in the Pokémon Center! – Spoke the caring mother Joy Black was, complimenting her child. – Of course, he would like a Starter! Where was that Bianca again?

She's at the outlook of Aspertia! – Answered Aurea Juniper. – Let's chat later! I'm needed at the Nuvema Labs. right now! Bye, Joy! Bye, Spring! Hope your son has success on his Pokémon adventure!

*The Xtransciever is turned off*

An adventure? – Said Joy, instantly getting worried by Aurea Juniper's last words. – Oh… I… I will have to say goodbye to Nate? Wait! Be strong, Joy Black! Every kid has to leave home at least 10-years-old, and he is already 12!

With a heavy heart, the mesmerizing act that changed Nate's life of the better was executed:

"Nate! Come here!"

"Whoops! My mom is calling! See ya later, Feraligatr! – Rushed an excited Nate Black.

After his mom talked about her conversation with no one other than Professor Juniper, he was hyped. He hugged his kind mother, telling her he'll never forget her, and so does the mother. Rushing into the outlook, he tried to talk with a distracted tourist.

It's SOOOOOOOOOOO pretty! – Said the tourist. - Don't you agree? Oh! My name is Bianca! I'm the assistant of Professor Juniper. By the way, I'm looking for someone. Do you know a person named Nate?

Umm... I- – Tried to answer the question Nate, but was interrupted once again by Bianca.

Oh, wait! You're Nate Black! Wooow! You're ex-act-ly like what I heard! Nice to meet you! I have a really important request to ask you! Will you help us complete the Pokédex? – Said Bianca.

Yeah, I do! – Said Nate. – It'll be totally fun to hang out at different routes and cities of Unova, just me and my Pokémon.

Yeah, but you can't go outside of your hometown without a Pokémon! Please, take one of those! – Said Bianca opening a briefcase with three Pokéballs, with the traditional Unovan starters.
