Jane Rizzoli and her girlfriend Dr. Maura Isles are down in the autopsy room as Maura has just finished an autopsy, her last one for the day. It is almost time to leave to go home and get ready for dinner.
Jane and Maura have been living together for several months now, actually since Valentine's Day. They have been friends for many years and Jane is trying to convince Maura to go to a certain Mexican restaurant for dinner.
"Come on Maur, I want to have Mexican food for dinner tonight to celebrate Cinco de Mayo." Jane said as she looked at Maura and pouted. Maura was a sucker for Jane's pouts and usually caved right away to her request but not tonight. Tonight, she was going to push back.
"Jane, we have this conversation every May 5th. I do not want to go to a Mexican restaurant on May 5th. I will go any other day but not on May 5th. So many people will be going to a Mexican restaurant tonight. Besides we had tacos for lunch today. Can we just grab some take out and eat it at home?" Maura says in a pout right back at Jane.
Jane does not look like she is going to budge so Maura continues, "Jane, would you like for me to list the ways we celebrate different days throughout the year? In January for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, we ate one of his favorite foods, pecan pie, and watched a documentary about him. The week after that we hummed songs through Kazoos in honor of 'National Kazoo Day.' We ate Chinese Food on February 1st for 'Chinese New Year' and watched Groundhog Day on 'Groundhog Day', several times I may add. I know you thought that was cute to repeat the movie several times. On March 14th we ate pie to celebrate 'Pi Day.' For St. Patrick's Day we ate Corned Beef and Cabbage and you drank Green Beer. I am surprised you do not have us eating pizza on
'National Pizza Day' or having ice cream for breakfast on 'National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day'. How many Star Wars movies did we watch last night for 'Star Wars Day'?"
Jane puts her hand up spreading out all of her fingers for dramatic effect to interrupt Maura and says, "wait, there is a 'National Pizza Day' and 'Ice Cream for Breakfast Day'? How come I don't know about these days? That's it, we are participating in these activities next year. What other special days am I missing out on Maur?" Jane asks with a grin from cheek-to-cheek with full dimples on display.
Maura just laughs. "Jane all of this information is available on the Internet. But we do not need to wait for a certain day to eat a certain food or do a certain activity otherwise you would not clean your desk until 'National Clean Your Desk Day'." Looking at the puzzled look on Jane's face Maura adds, "yes, Jane there is a 'National Clean Your Desk Day' it is January 10th the day after 'National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day', which is the same day as 'National Nerd Day'. So, we should really appreciate each other on January 9th." Jane smiles as she looks at Maura.
"Now Jane, you know that I was a good sport and watched several Star Wars movies with you last night for 'Star Wars Day' and had to listen to you say 'May the Fourth Be With You' multiple times. I even picked up all the popcorn that you tried to slash with your new lightsabers while we watched the movies." Maura laughs at the memory. It was really distracting when Jane kept pushing the buttons and making the lightsabers extend out as she tossed the popcorn in the air and tried to slash it.
Jane smiles as she considers her options. Maura really was a good sport last night and she does this to Maura every May 5th and every May 5th Maura lets her win and Jane gets to go where she really wants to go. Maura just wishes Jane would just say where she really wants to go but I guess that would not be as much fun as the bantering back and forth. They both seem to enjoy the bantering.
Jane gives in and says "Okay Maur, if we are not going to a Mexican restaurant then I really want to go to Alden & Harlow and have one of Chef Scelfo's limited burgers. Would you do me the honor of accompanying me to Alden & Harlow's?" She figures she does not want to be in the dog house with her girlfriend so she should give in a little more. Normally she never gives in she continues the bantering until Maura gives in.
Maura smiles. "Yes, Jane I would love to, but because I know you, you had better call them and make sure they have a burger for me also because I know you called ahead to reserve yours already. I know he only makes a certain amount and they runout rather quickly. You better get on the phone woman!" Maura laughs and Jane quickly pulls out her cell phone to call the restaurant to ensure that they will have a burger for Maura.
All is well in Jane's mind. Victory is hers; she gets to enjoy a fabulous burger, French fries and beer with her girlfriend. What else could a girl want? Okay, there are lots of things she could want but this will be a wonderful dinner with her girlfriend.
During dinner Maura informs Jane that next year to celebrate 'National Astronaut Day' and 'National Space Day' (May 5th and 7th respectively) they are going to go to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, after all Maura is a 'science geek' and if Jane is on her best behavior, they can toss in a few days at Disney World in Orlando so they can visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Maura figures they might as well make a week of it because they do not take vacations that often. Jane was pouting until Maura said Disney World then she was all smiles. Jane has been wanting to go to see the Star Wars: Galaxy Edge attraction. She really wants to fly the Millennium Falcon. Maura thinks Jane really is just a big kid sometimes, but she loves her dearly and wouldn't change anything about her. Well maybe she will make sure to let the batteries drain down in the lightsabers now and then.
Tomorrow they will do what they always do on May 6th, go to the Mexican restaurant for dinner.
