The story starts like this. A girl wakes up as Caroline Forbes and tries her best to emulate her to avoid suspicion. Because it would be suspicious for "Caroline" to suddenly quit being a cheerleader, for her to stop planning events, for her to stop being number one at everything.
But "Caroline" keeps trying. She keeps cheerleading and she keeps planning events. She attempts to be number one. She keeps on trying until she can't recognize herself in the mirror.
And she manages for a while. She avoids being Damon's living blood bag and sex toy. She avoids all of the season one bullshit. It doesn't matter though.
She still dies, suffocated by a five-hundred-year-old vampire that's a mirror image of Elena. She dies.
It shouldn't matter though, the original Caroline's death paved way for her character development.
But "Caroline" still despairs. She doesn't want to become Caroline.
Caroline was bitten, and tortured, and bait. She would be sacrificed without a second thought to the altar of a goddess whose face wasn't her own.
"Caroline" could relate to that. She wanted her own body with all of its flaws and her own life back. But she can't. Because "Caroline" drowned in her original body.
But all she knows is that wants to live. It doesn't matter that "Caroline's" heart doesn't beat or that her body no longer exudes warmth.
"Caroline" doesn't know what she wants besides that anymore.
end.
