Prologue
The storm is so loud. The little girl covers her ears with her hands and whimpers. Her mother wraps an arm around her and pulls her closer, her other arm holding her baby brother close as he cries loudly. "It's okay my sweetlings. We will get away, they won't find us."
The child is confused. Who or what is chasing them? She looks at the windows of the carriage, but the small curtains are drawn, its too dark outside to see anyway. The only light inside is from the oil lamp burning in the sconce on the wall of the carriage. She whimpers again, she is afraid of the dark, she wants her father. "Papa, I want my Papa," she cries to her mother.
"Hush now, we can't go back. They'll get us." The child is confused but doesn't utter another word. She is afraid of who is coming to get them even though she doesn't understand. In her little mind she can picture a large monstrous creature emerging out of the storm to grab them up. The carriage is swaying with the force of the wind and the driving rain.
Then the whole carriage jolts and there is a loud crashing sound from outside the carriage. The child screeches in fear and blind panic as her mother clutches her and her brother closer, shielding them with her body as the carriage tips wildly over onto its side. There is a grating and crashing sound and all three of the carriage occupants are thrown violently from their seats. Everything goes black.
The baby is so quiet. Why isn't he still crying? "Mama?" the little girl whimpers. The storm is still so loud outside maybe her mother didn't hear her call out. "Mama," she cries louder this time. Still nothing. But at least finally there is some light, but then, it keeps getting brighter. And hotter.
The child looks around to see that the oil lamp has fallen out of the sconce and heated oil and flames have erupted in the carriage. "Mama!" she screams for her mother now and pulls at her dress as she watches the carriage curtains and seats go up in flames. She looks up high at the door, which is now above her, too high for her to climb out. She shakes her unmoving mother's shoulder and the baby falls from her limp arms, his head bent at an awkward angle. The little girl catches him before he falls onto the ground, but he is so silent and still, he looks like he is asleep. She is too small to hold him properly, so she gently lays him on her mother's skirts while she tries to wake her again.
The child pulls at her mother's skirts again, truly terrified now, but her mother is also asleep. Even when the hot flames catch her mother's hair, she still sleeps. The child tries to put the flames out on her mother but only burns her own hands.
Part of the carriage seat breaks away and falls on top of the little girl and she shrieks in pain as her neck and the side of her face are burnt. The carriage is now filled with smoke and the child cannot breathe, she coughs, and coughs and she is no longer able to call out to her mother.
Suddenly, the door above her head flies open and long arms reach in to pull her out.
A/N TFK is going to be set in Medieval times…roughly. Let's not get ourselves bogged down in dates! Our story is going to be set in a fictional land, think of it as roughly shaped like Ireland…kind of, only bigger. So anyway, this country is called Washington and it has four provinces, The North known as Volterra, The East known as Nomadia, the West known as Forks and the South known as Phoenix. Each province is a kingdom with its own royal family. I have a full outline of the story completed but I don't have the chapters typed up. I have only recently returned to any kind of writing, mostly because this story wouldn't leave me alone! The plan is to update once a week, but I'll see how this goes and what kind of reception it gets.
I know this chapter is rough going, and I'm not going to promise there aren't bumpy times ahead, but I do promise the entire story is not full of blood and gore and abuse. I tried to make it a well-rounded story. Feel free to ask any questions duckies, I love to interact with my readers . Also, just for my own amusement I have tried to include every single character from the original Twilight series in this story and I didn't add in any additional non-Twilight characters so hopefully you will recognise all of the names! Most couples are kept to canon where I was able and although some will be OOC I tried to keep the essence of each one the same.
Reviews are welcome and appreciated. I'd love to know what you think. I know this chapter is short, but it is only the prologue, the main chapters should be between two or three thousand words each. I aim to have chapter one up in a day or two, then maybe once a week after that.
Kisses,
C
