In The Shadows We Hide

There have been numerous strange and unsolvable murders in London. The city must rely on the greatest detective duo of all time. Arthur Kirkland and Alice Liddell. There is not a case they can't solve which is due to the fact that they are both vampires. The two have vowed to spend their eternity protecting the innocent by killing the monsters that plague the earth. [Rated M]

Prologue

[1876] [?'s P.O.V]

It was evening in London, the sun had just set and the cool April air still retained the smell of the very recent shower of rain not too long ago. Most people are now starting to head inside as it is about time to eat dinner and head to sleep. All but one man. I'm currently out for a walk following a young woman. I have been following her for about a week now, learning her daily routine. I know that i'm going to enjoy killing her. She was a stunning beauty, pale skin, long raven black hair and piercing green eyes. Spilling her blood will please me very much especially after I remove her head. A wicked smile graced my face as she turned down a dark ally-way. Smiling with anticipation I followed her, trying to conceal my footsteps on the wet cobble-stoned road as I nearly missed a puddle. Walking further into the ally I removed the large knife I had hidden under my coat. Upon venturing further into the alley I found her simply just standing there. Gripping the knife I walked as silently as I could towards her as she turned her head slightly to right.

"You have made a very fatal mistake!" she declares as I halt in my steps confused however before I can recover myself I am immediately flung up against the wall by what feels like a train as something strong and unbreakable holds me in place. Opening my eyes I stare up at what is holding me in place against the faded red brick wall and what I see is a young man. Much younger then I am. The man has pale skin, golden blonde hair, piercing blood-red eyes and a cold smirk on his face.

"What do you say love?, shall we make this vile abomination suffer or put him out of his misery right now?" the man asks as the woman reappears in my eye-sight and what I see next terrifies me to my very core. The woman's eyes turn from green to blood red just as red as the man's. That was when I released that these two were not human. This was not possible.

"It's a shame that we can't simply just arrest you and have you pay for your crimes but the atrocities that you have committed have earned a very special punishment" the young man says as I finally recognize him as Scotland Yard's top detective Arthur Kirkland which means that the woman must be his partner Alice Liddell. They had both vowed that they would find me and bring me to justice. At the time I had just simply laughed my head off when I had read it in the paper but now it looks like their vow might come true. I had to find a way to escape, I just had too, there must be a way out of the situation I have currently found myself in.

"Arthur!" Alice groans as she grips her throat in what looks like pain, "The burn is back, i'm so thirsty" she says as Arthur sends her a look of concern before smiling wickedly. In that moment my blood ran cold and I knew it, I knew that I was not going to get out of this situation alive.

"Well it looks like we have our answer" Arthur responds before holding me to the wall even tighter than before as Alice steps forward placing both of her hands on my chin and tilting my head to the right. It was then I felt a white-hot searing pain as razor-sharp teeth bit into my throat, I tried to let out an agonized scream but Arthur shoved something into my mouth to muffle my screams. I then felt that horrible white-hot searing pain, however only this time on the right side of my neck as he bit into me as well. It was only seconds before I no longer belonged to this world that I realized they were vampires. The city's most respected and famous detective duo were monsters of the night and on top of the food chain and they prayed on lesser monsters like me for sustenance. What kind of bloody fucked-up irony is that? As the last of my blood was pulled from my system, they let my body drop to the ground and right before the hands of the demons of suffering could drag me to hell I heard Alice's farewell, "The world will be a better place now that you're out of it Jack The Ripper" After that all I knew was the eternal pain and torment that hell has to offer.
