Julie and the Phantoms: Random stories – Reggie and Wolfe

Wolfe Peters – Kubo had figured out that he was related to Reggie by being adopted by his sister and later on her partner. He had also figured that he was somehow related to Alex as well they figured that he was probably a cousin but since he didn't really know much about his father or have any pictures of his mother it was harder to figure out exactly.

One evening after they had been having a discussion about who Wolfe could be related to in Alex's family Reggie seemed to be upset about it but he didn't really say anything about it. Later on, after Wolfe had left to go home from band practice Reggie approached Julie and asked if she knew where he lived as he wanted to see if he could talk to him in private about something. Julie ended up texting Logan for his address and showed Reggie where it was.

After sunset Reggie poffed to the address that Julie had shown him. He looked at the house it was a small two-story house on the beach, it wasn't one of the nicer beaches in the LA area but it reminded him of the house that his parents had lived in before he had died. Interestingly it wasn't too far from either Julie's house or Logan and Luke's parents' house. Reggie decided to look around the rooms upstairs first to see if he could figure out which room was Wolfe's. He stuck his head in one door and found it was a bathroom that had two doors on the inside of it as well. It was similar to one that he had shared with his sister. He looked around at it and only saw one tooth brush at one of the sinks in the room he figured that it was probably Wolfe's so he decided to take a look at the room on that side of bathroom. He poked his head in a saw a room that had one wall painted blue with some letters hanging on it over the bed and the others had band posters on the walls some of them Reggie actually recognized from when he was alive others were ones he had never seen before.

He made his way fully into the room and looked around the lights were off in it but it didn't really matter to him much as there was still some light coming in from the window. As he looked around the room, he saw that the closet in the room had no doors on it instead there were shelves and some drawers. Reggie figured that the drawers had Wolfe's underwear in them and not really something that he was going to go through. Hung up on hangers were a few nicer shirts with collars on them along with a few dress shirts and some hoodies. Also hung up were dress pants, jeans of various colors and some shorts also of various colors but they were mainly cargo shorts, there was also a kilt hung up as well, which Wolfe had worn for the show at the Orpheum.

On the shelves were mostly t-shirts with the sleeves cut off of them. Under the window there was a desk with a mirror over one side that had a number of hair products under it, Reggie figured that Wolfe probably used them to keep his long hair in order. Also on the desk was Wolfe's homework along with a copy of "home is where my horse is" it had some rough notes on it that Wolfe had made in pencil. There was also a bass guitar and a small amp there too. Over the bed there were some letters spelling out Wolfe's name Reggie looked at it and thought out load "huh so that's how he spells it I thought it was like the animal."

As he was looking around the door opened and the lights came on, a voice then said "it's an old English and Germanic spelling of the name", Reggie turned around in fear as he saw Wolfe there who said "relax Reggie, Logan gave me a heads up on that you had asked for my address."

Reggie then said "oh ok um did he say why I wanted it?"

Wolfe replied "yeah he said something about you saying that you wanted to talk about something with me to Julie."

Reggie replied "yeah I um don't really know how to say this but I'm kind of wondering if you um care about me." Wolfe looked at him puzzled as he said "you and Alex have been talking to each other a lot and you don't really say much to me."

Wolfe replied "ah ok I guess I have been ignoring you a bit. It's just that I don't really know much about my birth parents. My mom died when I was six and I never really knew much about my dad."

Reggie replied "yeah I guess that makes sense so how did you end up with my sister as one of your moms?"

Wolfe replied "well it was when I was in the hospital after my birth mom had died. I had been in the operating room when it happened, they took me in right away because I had a bad beak in my leg it had actually been somewhere near my knee. During the surgery they discovered that I had bone cancer and ended up amputating my leg above my knee. Anyway, as I said my mom died well, I was in surgery so they had a social worker come to the hospital to be able to talk to me. The social worker assigned to me was your sister who told me later that when she saw my green eyes, she fell for me and wanted to do anything she could for me."

Reggie then said "yeah she did always have a thing for Green eyes. I think I remember her saying that if she ever had a kid, she would want him to have green eyes."

Wolfe replied "that's interesting she's never really said anything to me about that."

Reggie then said "so you said that your moms got married a few years ago, I guess that means that they weren't when you were adopted?"

Wolfe replied "so what happened was your sister took me in a foster kid as she couldn't bare for me to go with anyone else. Also, during that time, she started the adoption process as well. I had to be in foster care first just in case there was any family members that could take care of me. She did get in touch with my grandmother on my birth mom's side but she didn't think that she could look after me because of her being in her 70's at the time and most of my other relatives through her weren't interested in fostering a child at the time. I still see her though from time to time but she lives in a retirement community in Florida now so I don't see her often, she moved there with a fairly close friend of hers."

Reggie then said "ok that's cool do you think they are a couple?"

Wolfe replied "I don't really know they haven't said if they are or not. Even in 2020 it's not really something that people talk about a lot unless people are open about it. Like for example me and Logan are both openly gay. I'm actually a little bit bisexual but I prefer guys more than ladies. Although god knows they like me for some reason, it's probably my green eyes."

Reggie then said "yeah they are something that you don't really see often plus I'm sure that having bare arms and showing your chest like you do helps too. I know back when we were in high school girls always went after Luke more than me or Alex."

Wolfe then said "yeah I can see that. You and Alex seem kind of shy though compared to Luke."

Reggie replied "I guess we might be but since Luke is kind of the head of the band, we've just gone along with him and since he has a dominant personality."

Wolfe replied "yeah Logan's like that too."

Reggie then said "you said something about liking both girls and guys I didn't know that was called something."

Wolfe replied "I guess a lot has changed since Alex came out to you guys. I don't really know what phrases they used then but now it usually gets refeed to being 'LGBTQ'."

Reggie then asked what it stood for. Wolfe explained as much as he could he didn't go in to a lot of the terms as it wasn't really things, he actually understood either so he stuck with just the main ones being Lesbian, Gay, Trans and Queer or questioning.

Reggie then said "wow that's a lot of terms how do people keep them straight."

Wolfe replied "it's tricky sometimes plus things get complicated by people not really understanding everything or putting their own view on things like for example some people are against transgendered people using whatever restroom they want to like for example if someone is born a guy but has or is transitioning to a woman wants to use a ladies restroom people want to say that they are a pedophile or something like that."

Reggie then said "I guess it's the whole being afraid about what they don't understand. I know when Alex first told me I didn't really understand what it meant until he told me."

Wolfe replied "yeah I guess it wasn't really talked about much back then. Now in school it's sort of touched on by saying it's acceptable for people who are the same sex to be together or for someone who feels differently about themselves sexually should be treated the same as anyone else. Like I said it's kind of complicated though as not everyone accepts it though."

Reggie then said "I know firsthand from Alex and his family about stuff like that."

Wolfe then said "you're very open minded about it I see."

Reggie then said "well I was a bit apprehensive about it at first until Alex explained it."

Wolfe then asked "ok I'm just curious about something did Alex have something with Luke?"

Reggie then said "they kind of did I don't really know how much they did with each other but they did sometimes sleep together. Luke and Alex used to live at the studio after they ran away from home or got kicked out. Luke would comfort Alex a lot and he still does from time to time when Alex is feeling insecure about something."

Wolfe replied "yeah I can kind of see that, also Logan said something about seeing them hold hands."

Reggie then said "as for me I think I'm straight but I've never been able to get a girlfriend." Reggie then added "I think the hand holding thing is a security thing for Alex's anxiety issues but I think he would know more about it"

Wolfe then said "hey it's ok not everyone is good at that. Like for example I'm a really nervous flirt and do really awkward things sometimes." Wolfe was of course thinking about how he had first approached Logan after their English class.

Reggie then said "yeah I see you and Logan doing stuff sometimes that I don't really get."

Wolfe replied "yeah we do have a wired relationship with each other."

Reggie then said "so do you have any cousins or anything like that?"

Wolfe replied "yeah I have a few. Some of them I see more than others. On your sisters' side I have a few, on my other moms' side I don't have as many. Then I have a couple of ones I've met from my birth mom's family too."

Wolfe then told Reggie about some of them including one that was the son of an entitled aunt who was just as bad. He told Reggie about how one time he was playing around with his fake leg and Wolfe had gotten mad at him about it only for his mother to say that he wasn't hurting it and that kid was just curious about it. He also told him about how one time he wanted to try his hearing aids on because his grandfather let him try his and he got upset when they didn't work for him.

Reggie then said "I'm curious about how they work too."

Wolfe then took one off he did it by pulling his hair back a bit revealing that around his ears he kept his hair shorter then the rest of his hair and said "so there are a couple of parts to them. There's the external part that you see and it sits on my ear like a regular one." He then explained how the main part of it had a microphone in it as well as a battery pack and the device that connects to his phone in it, Wolfe even showed him how it connected to his phone and that he could control things like the volume and see what the battery level was on it. He then explained how the second part was implanted under his skin and was in part of the bone in his head and had a wire that went into part of his inner ear.

Reggie then said "wow that sounds crazy how do they put those in?"

Wolfe replied "I had surgery to do it. They did two of them about a month a part from each other. The first was on my right ear because I'm deafer in it then my left one. After that one was done, I had to wait until it had healed before they turned it on and I got my first receiver to get used to and also so that I could hear once they did the other ear."

Reggie then said "wow that sounds crazy that they can do surgery to help someone who is deaf to be able to hear."

Wolfe replied "yeah it is."

Reggie then said "so how much can you hear without them on?"

Wolfe replied "um it's been awhile since I've had a hearing test but everyday I wake up I think I can hear less everyday."

Reggie then said "man that sucks."

Well, they were talking Wolfe had changed into his pajama pants and had also taken his leg off and plugged it in to recharge as he had a powered knee and foot and needed to charge the battery pack on it. Reggie asked about it and he explained about it a little bit without getting too technical. Reggie was amazed at it as much as he was about Wolfe's hearing aids.

Wolfe then sat down on his bed and propped himself up with his pillows before he grabbed a bottle of black nail polish and a nail file. Reggie watched him as he filed his nails and said "I like to keep my nails neat and filed too as does Alex. Luke bites his nails though."

Wolfe replied "yeah I think Logan did that too it's one of the reasons why he likes to wear black or blue nail polish."

Reggie then said "it's funny I've never really thought about a guy wearing it. I thought about asking you and Logan about it but never really had a chance too as I usually only see you guys with everyone else."

Wolfe then said "you're welcome here anytime. I know Luke visits Logan sometimes in his room."

Reggie then said "yeah but it's easier for him because he knows where he lives."

Wolfe replied "yeah that makes sense. As for why we have nail polish on our fingers part of it is to stop us from biting them and another is because it's kind of a metal head thing."

Reggie then said "I never really got heavy metal music. I like rock and country a bit more."

Wolfe then said "yeah I can see that. Take a look at what I'm thinking of for 'home is where my horse is'. I'm trying to make it a sort of country and rock song."

Reggie then said "that's kind of an interesting idea."

Wolfe replied "yeah it is. Last year there was a rap song that had a country vibe to it and one of the music videos for it had Billy Ray Cyrus in it."

Reggie then said "wow that sounds interesting."

Wolfe then said "yeah it is plus it also caused some controversy as well. At one point it was on both the hip hop charts and the country music charts. That is until the country music charts decided that it wasn't country and took it off saying something about how it was mocking country or something like that." Wolfe then picked up a tablet he had on his bedside table and pulled up the video and gestured for Reggie to sit beside him as he moved over a bit to give him some space. He then showed him the video for 'Olde town Road' Reggie found it to be interesting and said "wow things have changed a lot since I died."

Wolfe replied "yeah heck lots of things have changed since I was born too."

Reggie then said "I bet if I was around, I'd have taken you to a country concert."

Wolfe replied "yeah probably and I'd probably have dragged you to some Iron Maiden shows too."

Reggie then said "you know I don't think I've ever really heard anything by them or if I did I don't really remember it."

Wolfe replied "yeah well the thing is there a lot bigger in Europe and South America then they are here. Mostly because of American radio stations not really playing them a lot."

Reggie then said "ah ok that kind of makes sense. So how did you find out about them."

Wolfe replied "one of my uncles is a big fan and him and his son came here too see them and took me with them. I also saw them another time with a friend from school too and then I saw them in England when I was there for a family wedding. That's when I got my kilt, the wedding was in Scotland and my family there said that I should get a kilt for it so they took me to a kilt maker."

Reggie replied "wow that's cool I've only ever been here in California and West Virginia where I was born. I came here around the same time as Alex and Luke did. We all met when we were 7 or 8."

Wolfe replied "wow that's cool I wondered when you guys met."

Wolfe then grabbed a crutch that he had beside his bed it was one of a pair but a lot of the time at home he would only use one. First, he brushed his teeth and then took out his contacts that he wore and put on a pair of glasses. Then headed back to his room.

Reggie then said "wow I didn't know that you wore glasses.".

Wolfe replied "I usually wear contact lenses."

Reggie then said "so what are some of your favorite songs by Iron Maiden?"

Wolfe then said "one of my favorite ones is called 'The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner' although I've never seen them play it live."

Wolfe then pulled up a live version of it on his tablet to show Reggie. He paused it when it started and explained a bit about how Iron Maiden had their own plane when they toured and the lead singer was one of the pilots for it. He then let the video play again before he paused it to tell him who each of the members of the band were and what their history was.

Reggie then said "wow that was kind of cool and it was neat seeing the bass player singing along with the song."

Wolfe then said "he actually writes most of the songs."

Reggie then said "wow he's like Luke he's really good."

Wolfe then showed him some other songs by them first he showed him the clansman which was about Scotland. Next he showed Reggie one of his favorite songs it was one that they did live a lot and the audience would usually sing along with it, it was called 'fear of the dark'. The version Wolfe had chosen was from one of their concerts at Rockin' Rio. Wolfe explained that it was a huge music festival in Brazil and that Iron Maiden was one of the headliners at it. Reggie was amazed at how big the crowd was and that they were singing along with the band.

Wolfe then said "some day that's going to happen with us. Imagine a huge crowd signing along to 'Stand Tall' or 'The Edge of Great'."

Reggie then said "or 'Home is where my Horse is'."

Wolfe laughed and said "I'd love to see the look on Luke's face when that happens."

Reggie replied "yeah it will be priceless."

Wolfe yawned and stretched as Reggie then said "I think I should go now but I'll probably come back again sometime."

Wolfe said "yeah thanks, it's been nice talking to you and your welcome to come over anytime. Just don't do what Luke does and watch me sleep."

Reggie then said "ok I won't." Reggie then left and said "goodnight Wolfe."

Wolfe replied "goodnight Reggie." After Reggie had left Wolfe turned off his lights and went to bed. He dreamed that night that Julie and the Phantoms were performing at Rock in Rio and the crowd was amazing.
