This is my first fanfiction I ever wrote. The idea popped up spontaneous, while watching the Pilot episode. I hope you will enjoy it and I would appreciate reviews or other feedback!
A new start
Maxwell Sheffield walked down towards the dining room with an uneasy feeling in the stomach area, he thought back to last night, he became more aware that he had overreacted and was unfair against Fran Fine. Still, he couldn't get used to the idea that his little Maggie was at an age where she wanted to date boys, but he had to admit to himself, Miss Fine had a point with her argument, Maggie was about to turn into a young woman. His mood sank even deeper when he stepped into the dining room and saw his children sitting at the breakfast table with their heads bent low over their plates. No word was spoken, and everyone poked around quite appetizing and saddened in their food. Niles, who as always stood at the buffet seemed rather depressed and did not have his usual smile on his face. Inevitably Maxwell Sheffield had to think of the breakfast from the previous day, he smiled when he thought back how Fran Fine had snowed in, dressed in this impossible bathrobe and with her cheerfulness had conjured up an atmosphere of anxiety around the room and how she had just grabbed a chair to sit at the table, because she didn't even come up with the idea, that the nanny would not sit at the table together with the family to eat the meals. The contrast between these two breakfast scenes couldn't be bigger.
Maxwell Sheffield sat down in his seat wishing his children a good morning and waited for Niles to serve him his eggs and make him his tea as usual. He registered that none of his children had returned his good morning greeting and it almost broke his heart to see his children in this state. It was obvious that they already knew that he had terminated Miss Fine's job as a nanny, everyone sat there in silence and the atmosphere in the room became more and more unbearable.
Finally, Mr. Sheffield rose from his seat saying goodbye to his children, wishing them a good day and announcing that he would now go to the theater. He was almost out of the room when Grace suddenly approached him and said to him in a tearful, pleading voice: "Daddy wait! I know you're angry with Fran because of this kissing story", she threw a significant sideways glance to Maggie, who tried to make herself even smaller, "but I really liked Fran, she was the first nanny who really took care of us and who showed us that she likes us, she didn't just take the job to just make a lot of money as much effort as possible or secretly steal from you. to smuggle an application form for a part in our show or to want to settle here as a gold digger." As she spoke, the first tears ran down her face in a desperate voice, she continued, "Please Daddy, can't you go up to her and ask her if she wants to come back. Please! Please! Daddy." Maxwell Sheffield looked at his daughter with big eyes, it had not happened for a long time that Gracie had spoken so openly and honestly about her feelings and had asked him so pleading for something and he could see clearly, this was her greatest heart's desire. Also, the other two Sheffield offspring now turned their eyes to their father and Brighton continued: "Yeah Gracie is absolutely right, Fran is so cool, and she will certainly always take good care of us and when you bring her back, then I swear never again perform any suicide acts." Maxwell Sheffield looked at his son with a slightly smile. Maggie realized it was now her turn to say something and now also expressed her wish to bring Fran back because she needed someone to talk with about girlie's issues. Mr. Sheffield stared at his children, who now all fixed him with a pleading look, one by one, and he realized, this was a magic moment in his life as a father. Even if he did not always show his feelings openly, he loved his 3 children and he could not break their hearts so cruelly. He gave himself a jolt, stepped up to the table, put his arms around Brighton and Maggie and he promised his children: "All right, if it is really your heart's desire I will go to Miss Fine, talk to her and try to convince her to work as your nanny."
As soon as he had uttered these words, Maggie fell around his neck and Grace ran from her seat around the table and snuggled up to her father as well. Maxwell Sheffield took all his three children in his arms and for the first time in a very very long period the whole family was in each other's hugs. Niles, who had watched the whole scene, got wet eyes, it touched him deep inside to see the family he loved so much, in this intimate embrace. Like his boss he realized this could be the decisive turning point in all their lives. The family, which was in danger of falling apart due to the tragic loss of Maxwell's first wife and mother of children, was now growing together stronger than ever.
Maxwell Sheffield sat in his limousine towards Queens and looked around with a curious. He wasn't often in this borough of New York that looked so different from the area around Park Avenue. When the limousine stopped, he got out and ran towards the building he knew Fran Fine was living there in an apartment with her parents. He was looking for the right floor and was walking down the doors to find the right apartment number when he finally heard a very shrill voice behind a door, apparently offering chocolates to someone. This voice reminded him all too well of the person who had blew into his house so easily the previous day. He stepped closer and prayed inwardly to God, he may help him to find the right words.
Fran Fine opened the door and was more than surprised to see her former boss on the other side, she looked at him in amazement and didn't really know what to say when Silvia Fine came rushing in, pulled Maxwell Sheffield by his sleeve into the apartment and offered him chocolates cake and pie at the same time. Fran rolled her eyes; her mother really didn't need 10 seconds to embarrass her. Fran went to her mother and made it clear to her that she would like to be alone with her former boss. After Silvia Fine had retreated into the kitchen, Fran asked Mr. Sheffield to take a seat and sat down on an armchair opposite to him. He sat on the couch covered with plastic and looked around the apartment in amazement. He felt completely overwhelmed by the strange environment and didn't really know how to start. He played with his hands when he finally addressed Fran Fine in an uncertain voice; „You are certainly very surprised to see me here, but I just had to come here to clarify some things. I'm not yet completely convinced that Margret should date guys at her age, but I admit that my reaction to yesterday's event was a little exaggerated." Fran had to grin; it was obvious to her how difficult this apology was for him. With a shy voice unknown to her, she replied: "I should not have reprimanded you so vigorously, there I may have crossed the line, but I appreciate very much that you took the trouble to come here specially to tell me that. Therefore, apology accepted."
Maxwell Sheffield sighed with relief, but he knew this was only one part of his concern. Nervously, he continued: "This was not all Miss Fine, I had a very long and intense conversation with my children this morning and we all the children and I would like to ask you to work as a nanny in our house." Fran folded down her jaw and she didn't know what to say, she never expected him to come here to offer her a job again. She beamed at the thought of returning to the mansion to take care of the children, whom she had already taken to her heart after just one day. She had missed the children in the few hours where she was gone, and the thought of spending everyday life with them made her very happy, but she also felt an uncertainty towards her future boss. "I am really very touched that you trust me with the job as a nanny again. I really love your children, but you must admit we both come from different worlds, such an incident as yesterday is practically inevitable with our different views. Are you sure a stiff Brit and a funky Jewess from Queens can live lucratively under one roof?" "To be honest, I don't know," he replied, "all I know is, you are the first person who won immediately the acceptance and respect of the children since the death of their mother, and I don't have the power to deprive my children from this person." Fran struggled with tears of emotion. Maxwell Sheffield stood up to her and reached out his hand to her and said, "Are you back on board?" Fran stood up and looked into his eyes for a long moment and said, "Yes!" Then both shook hands when they were suddenly blinded by a bright flash. Silvia Fine stood in front of them with a camera and said: "Cheese!"
Meanwhile, there was a great deal of disturbance at the Sheffield mansion. All three children were in the living room and couldn't wait to find out if their father had managed to bring Miss Fine back as their nanny. Impatiently, they all ran through the area staring at the door again and again and could not keep still. Brighton tried to distract himself with his Game Boy, but when he had already failed the first level for the sixth time, he turned off his Game Boy unnerved and tigered around in the living room, always with a view of the door. Maggie, who had leafed through a magazine without even reading one word, threw it on the cocktail table, sat down on the couch and nibbled on her fingernails. Grace sat on the stairs always looking out of the window and trampled nervously with her feet.
Finally, they heard a limousine and her father's voice but couldn't understand exactly what he was saying. All three jumped up, gathered in the entrance hall, and prayed that their father would march through the door at any moment with Fran at his side. Maxwell Sheffield entered the house took off his coat, looked at his children and said in a cheerful tone: "There I am!" The hearts of the children dropped down as their father obviously alone marched through the door, sadly they wanted to turn around when they suddenly heard high heels. Her father put an arm around Fran Fine's shoulders and said, "Oh yes, I brought someone else with me!" For a moment everyone starred at Fran and their father until they realized this only could mean Fran had decide to come back as their nanny.
All three rushed towards her future nanny and fell around her neck so that she almost fell over. Max well Sheffield stood there and watched it, it filled his heart with all the greatest joy to see his children so happy and satisfied. Niles, who observed the whole scenario from the background, found his smile again, he felt a deep relief that Miss Fine was back in this house. At the glance how the children alternately fell Fran and their father around the neck and Maxwell put his arm around the shoulders of Fran, it occurred to him what a great family this group could form. He couldn't wait to see what the future would bring and as he walked towards the kitchen to prepare dinner, he thought with a grin that he would probably have to help his boss to steer fate in the right direction.
