Here comes a wave
Meant to wash me away
A tide that is taking me under
Swallowing sand
Left with nothing to say
My voice drowned out in the thunder
But I won't cry
And I won't start to crumble
Whenever they try
To shut me or cut me down
It'd been a genuine fairytale wedding or as close as one could get. Aleena Ewing was attending the wedding ceremony of her English teacher, Ms. Bailey, to the top specialist at the medical institution.
Everyone in Aleena's seventh-grade class been invited to the wedding. Her mother, Clover, and her BBFs, Sam and Alex, had been invited because her mother designed her teacher's wedding dress. Aleena remained quite thrilled for her mentor. Ms. Bailey didn't know, but the 'diamonds' on her gown and diadem? They're actually ice crystals Aleena conceived with her secret ice powers.
I won't be silenced
You can't keep me quiet
Won't tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
'Cause I'll breathe
When they try to suffocate me
Don't you underestimate me
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
However, Aleena didn't feel quite comfortable during the reception. Again, this was due to prior experiences at social functions. Throughout previous formal celebrations, no one at the table ever glanced at her. Nor did they ask her questions or attempt to include her in the conversation.
She just sat there, invisible to everyone. No one noticing how much she wept because people didn't incorporate her. Even when she got an opportunity to speak, everyone constantly had to nitpick her word choice.
Written in stone
Every rule, every word
Centuries-old and unbending
"Stay in your place."
"Better seen and not heard."
Well, now that story is ending.
'Cause I
I cannot start to crumble
So come on and try
Try to shut me and cut me down
Tonight seemed to be no exception to her earlier experiences. Once again, she sat at an enormous table with loads of gourmet cuisine. But, yet again, no one looked at her at all. The adults at the table were currently conversing regarding each other love lives. While the few other kids were arguing about personality tests. Something Aleena hadn't taken or cared for.
I won't be silenced
You can't keep me quiet
Won't tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
Speechless
Let the storm in
I cannot be broken
No, I won't live unspoken
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
Desperate to be part of the conversation, she discreetly utilized her capabilities to make everyone shiver. Finally, everyone asked if the AC wasn't working. Aleena used this as an opening to speak. "I don't believe the AC is malfunctioning. However, I'd like to know if your kitten has grown more beautiful, Kyle?" asking a boy she had a crush on.
He looked like he'd been slapped. "How dare you insult my cat!" Aleena blinked, baffled why he thought she said an insult. He didn't even explain why he said it sounded insulting. Instead, everyone ganged up on her. She silently excused herself to go to the nearest bathroom to cry. Her tears solidified to the ground.
Try to lock me in this cage
I won't just lay me down and die
I will take these broken wings
And watch me burn across the sky
Hear the echo saying I...
"Why? Why does everyone do this to me? How come I'm the one disrespected? I waited for someone to talk to me. Except no one did. I asked a simple question. Yet, I'm told I'm insulting him? I didn't say anything wrong!" she sobbed harder.
"Why does this happen every time there is a social event? Why? Why am I the only one not included? Why is it solely my words nitpicked? Why does no one consider my feelings? I'm sitting there, and yet no one even looks at me!" she wailed even more. Life wasn't fair, that's for sure. However, this all seemed like unnecessary torture.
She returned to the reception only to find the banquet had been completed. She hadn't even eaten her fill. The dance hall now had loud music coming from it. She sought again to talk to someone. Except everyone stared at her coldly and disregarded her. No one asked her to dance. Plus, when she caught the bouquet, everyone just gave her a death glare.
The evening couldn't get any worse. Yet, of course, it did. No one asked her to be in any of the photos. Somehow even her beloved teacher didn't seem to notice her favorite student was in agony.
Won't be silenced
Though you wanna see me tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
Speechless
Eventually, the night concluded. As her mother drove them back to their penthouse, Clover sought to find the right words to soothe her daughter. However, she never could find the right ones to make her daughter feel better. At least, not when it came to these social functions. She sincerely felt disgusting that people excluded her daughter from these functions. Yet, she didn't understand it herself.
Aleena was a gorgeous, intelligent, compassionate, and engaging young lady. She should be the center of attention. Or at the least warrant some attention. It made no sense to either of them why no one included her. All she could do was squeeze her tightly when they got home. Praying one day at one social event, she won't be ignored.
Cause I'll breathe
When they try to suffocate me
Don't you underestimate me
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless
All I know is I won't go speechless
Speechless

Allow Your Past To Heal You
You've become who you are because of every experience you've ever endured, both the trauma and beauty.
When you allow it to, your past creates empathy for the experiences of others and an overwhelming sense of possibility for yourself.
Your past can heal you and prepare you for a more resilient future. However, only if you permit it to do so.
You can consciously decided how heavy or light you will allow the weight of your past to be.
