The Little Moments
1. Sleepy
Patrick did not work for the Krusty Krab. At this point though, Mr Krabs had to wonder if he should start paying the boy. He was always there, always helping out his friends during the lunch rush.
Today, he would end up cleaning the whole restaurant! This was normally SpongeBob's role but today the boy had overworked himself, he was clearly exhausted and had been dragging his feet for the last hour. He had refused to take a break due to the unusually busy work day, the line of customers never seemed to end.
"We gotta go home, can't you clean tomorrow?" Patrick asked worriedly as his friend dragged a mop out from the cleaning closet.
"No!" SpongeBob huffed tiredly, tripping over his own feet.
"Yes." Mr Krabs and Squidward pointed out.
Mr Krabs was counting the money in the cash register while Squidward was checking the receipts to ensure everything was in order.
"You can go home lad." Mr Krabs told them without looking up, "It can wait 'til morning."
"I won't sleep knowing I didn't finish!" SpongeBob frowned but gave a big yawn, he leaned against a table as he started mopping. "I'll just clean then I'll go."
Patrick sighed heavily; his friend looked ready to collapse.
So, he marched over and snatched the mop out of his hand.
"Hey!" SpongeBob protested half-heartedly. He frowned when Patrick turned around and beckoned him onto his back for a piggy back ride. "What?"
"Get on, we'll mop together." Patrick explained, SpongeBob climbed onto his back but frowned sleepily when the mop wasn't handed to him.
"Patrick?" he questioned; Patrick ignored him as he got on with mopping the floor.
SpongeBob was going to protest some more; he swore this wasn't fair to his unpaid friend. However, the gentle swaying of Patrick's movements and the comfortable warmth of his back soon lulled him into a deep sleep.
Patrick smirked when he felt his friend's breaths even out, he hummed softly to himself as he continued the chores. He finished mopping the floor, moving on to clean the table tops.
Mr Krabs and Squidward watched in quiet interest as all this unfolded, this wasn't the first time they'd seen Patrick trick his energetic friend into resting. They couldn't help but watch the bigger boy, there was always a gentleness about him when it came to SpongeBob.
It was little moments like these that made the two adults wonder what their relationship truly was. They knew the boys had met at a young age and grown up together, been through everything side by side, but there was always something there. A love much deeper than just a simple friendship.
It was like they needed each other just to exist. If one were to be taken away the other would surely disappear too, they were the breath in each others' lungs.
"Hey." Patrick whispered as he strolled over to them, "That's everything cleaned, I'm gonna get him home."
"Good job." Mr Krabs smiled, "Tell the lad he did good today!"
"Will do." Patrick nodded, he glanced between the two. "Goodnight."
"'Night." He nodded softly. They watched as Patrick strolled home as gently as he could to keep his friend from waking.
"Y'know," Squidward tilted his head towards his boss. "I think there might be something more going on there."
"It's none of our business." Mr Krabs warned as he finished up what he was doing.
"Ten bucks says they're dating?" Squidward smirked as he reached out his hand.
"Hmmmm..." Mr Krabs thought carefully before smirking deviously, "Please, ten bucks isn't worth my time! 50 bucks says they're not!"
"Deal!" Squidward shook his hand before laughing nasally, "I can't wait to see your face when you hand over that money!"
"Please, they are NOT dating!" Mr Krabs smirked as the two left the workplace, "It's a brotherly thing for sure!"
"No way!" Squidward shook his head cockily, "Absolutely no way!"
"We'll see, Mr Squidward!" Eugene chuckled, "We'll see!"
Little slices of life are fun to write, they'll get more and more exciting I promise!
