Earth is now basically controlled by robots and robotic humans who don't care about anything or anyone except money. This planet is no more than just a place for guns-for-hires and drunk mercenaries who would kill their own family just for a scrap of money. Crazy, right? Well, you have to get used to this once you are born since all your life the game you will be playing is 'Kill or be killed' otherwise you might as well just end your own life, because nobody knows what mercy is anymore.

And here comes Emily into the picture. She is still a human who knows what positive feelings are, knows how to spare people and how to act kind towards others, altough this kind of behavious gets discouraged immediately by everyone who notices this, but she still doesn't give up on hope that this world can still change it to a better one. If she dies at least she dies in a way that she was protecting the people once known as 'humans'. Weeeeeeell, she would do that if her mother wouldn't be so strict about going outside alone. She was 16 and she always thought that she was mature and big enough to go outside and kick some few bad guys' butt.

Emily's family wasn't the wealthiest families out there so her mom worked 2 jobs at once so they could eat, drink and still have a roof above their heads, quite frankly Emily didn't care or mind about their poor situation since she was content what she had right now. The only thing she needed was her mom and her imagination which were mostly about being a hero of some sort, but those are just a child's fantasies as her mom put it simply.

Emily got shaken out of her train thoughts by a familiar voice calling her name out to come down and eat dinner since it was ready. She didn't even realise that she spent almost an hour looking out of her window and watching night life going about, a few drunk guys came out of the bar, singing loudly and they could barely manage to walk in a straight line, Emily chuckled to herself at the sight of this, but another call made her jump, this time the friendly voice didn't sound so friendly, more like a stern one. It was her mom trying to call her down to the table.

Emily technically jumped out of her bed as quickly as she could, because the last thing she wanted is her mother being angry, honestly, to Emily there wasn't a scarier sight to her than her mom being mad, she learned from experience that it is not the best thing to do, to just annoy her mother.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Emily replied to her mother, with a tone that hinted that Emily was quite irritated by how her mother kept annoying her with things like dinner. 'Who needed that, right?' Emily thought to herself grumpily as she walked downstairs where her mother was waiting for her at the dinner table, the table already being made and a pot of boiling hot of her favourite soup was presented.

At the glimpse of the scenery before her, that was her mother smiling warmly at her, the heavenly smell of the soup and the relaxing atmosphere that was around them was really nice and soothing.

Emily pulled out a chair and sat down on it slowly as she grinned back at her mom. There was 3 chairs in total which was around the small table that they were using. The third chair was empty, like always. It was used to be used by Emily's dad who one day dissappeared and never came back. That was 10 years ago when she was only 6, but that day still lingered in her mind, clear as day. Remembering every detail of it, her mother crying being full sorrow and her own feelings which were a mix of despair and lostness.

Emily didn't realise she was staring at the chair for a few minutes now and one single tear formed in the corner of her eyes, but luckily for her, she still had a caring mother that always comforted her, no matter how bad their situation was. And like those times, her mom did the same thing.

Emily could feel a tender and warm hand touching her cheek, caressing it and she could her mother's voice that was and still is angel-like.

"I miss him too, dear, but what happened is in the past now. The both of us has to move on so the wound that it left us could heal peacfully. It's never good to reminisce about the past. Let's just enjoy this soup while it's still hot."

Emily nodded vaguely and slowly and like always, her mother caring nature was enough for Emily to completely calm down. She had no idea how her mom could do this, but she wasn't complaining either. She loved her more than anything or anyone else. Emily only had her mother. The only light in her dark present days.

"Alright. Will do and thanks for all of this, mom. I love you." As that left Emily's mouth she instantly started eating the soup, at first she was catious about it since it was hot, but when she found out that it was just the right temperature, she hungrily gulped it all down.

Leaving her mother a bit dumbfounded by this, because Emily wasn't always a fast eater or when she did eat, she never ate all of it, but today that seemed to change. Her mother let out a warm-hearted chuckle and started eating as well. After a good 30 minutes of talking and eating, they finished. While her mother did the dishes and put everything back to it's place.

Emily headed to the bathroom to take a shower. She looked at herself in the mirror, she had long and dark brown hair, her white skin compensating that with some brown freckles on her nose, between her eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful blue which were as vast as an ocean also she was quite short, but not too short, just a little bit under the average height for girls her age.

After inspecting herself she let out a sigh and took a quick shower, changed into her pajamas which were just a white T-shirt and a black short.

She was walking over to her room so she could finally get some well deserved sleep at the end of this long and tiring day. Everything seemed so perfect and calm, at least for Emily. She probably didn't know how much exhaustion her mother truly held, but that's never meant for a kid to know.

She was in her bed by know and she found herself staring outside once again, meanwhile her clock clicking in a sedative rhythm, it was 9 PM. Emily could never stay awake for too long, because she always liked to sleep as much as she could, but of course there were times where she could only sleep 4-5 hours thanks to her memory that reminded her that she missed her dad.

Emily layed down on top of her bed and watched the ceiling above her as she could feel herslef slipping into a dream world, slowly and surely, the clock's clicking slowly fading out of existence and boom. She is now fully asleep, her mind being completely black and blank, no dreams and no nightmares. She liked this way, so her nights can be more restful and no dreams would feel her with false hope.

A few hours later after she was asleep, it was eerily quiet, too quiet. No noise were coming from the streets, the bar at the other side of the street was as quiet as a funeral. And then out of nowhere a loud and deafening bang could be heard. It was a gunshot, coming from their house. Emily opened up her eyes with a jolt and fell out of her bed with an 'oof'.

She was dazed by the sudden noise and how quickly she got out of her bed, but she didn't have time to be upset about, because she could hear 3 men talking to each other, she couldn't hear what they were exactly saying, but she heard enough to tell that they were men and they didn't sound nice at all.

She took all of her courage and will power to get up and silently investigate what was happening down there. She took each step very calmly and sneakily so they wouldn't hear a thing which went well until she could see the scene with her own eyes. She felt her blood suddenly rushing through her entire body, her entire frame was shaking with panic, she wanted to shriek and cry at the same time. They shot her mother with cold blood. Her mother's lifeless body was laying down on the middle of the room, with a blood of pool oozing out of her head.

This sight was burnt into Emily's memories for the rest of her life. And then, something inside her snapped and she completely lost it, she let out a loud scream and stormed to her mother's body, shrieking at the 3 men who were caught off guard by the girl's sudden entrance.

Two of the men were wearing all black with a green mask which had a green visor as well, hiding their real faces and supplying them with information about anyone who they look at. This was your normal and nameless mercenary. Oh and of course a small pistol that was only enough to kill humans who don't have any sort of protection agains't the bullet.

But there was the third man, he looked mean and he radiated off a power that told you not to mess with him. He had two prostetic legs which had some wires connecting to the back of his spine and he had a big gun attached to his hip which flailed around vaguely as the man moved around.

"Damn, they didn't tell us that there was a child with her. Boss, what should we do? Should we kill her as well?" One of the murderers asked with a little bit of uncertainty in their words.

After a painfully long silene the 'Boss' broke it with his cold voice that screamed that he wasn't someone nice at all

"Hmm, I suppose so. Get rid of her and don't make a mess." He ordered as he took out a long and thick cigar out of his pocket and lit it on fire and then started smoking it, watching poor Emily with his dead gaze.

"Well, whatever you say, Boss." The other one spoke and he pulled out his gun slowly and pointed at Emily. She just hugged her mother's body tightly and firmly, still sobbing to herself as she awaited her death. And so she waited and waited, she waited for a good 10 seconds now and nothing has happened. She peeked one of her eyes open to see what was happening and to her surprise all of the men were dead, their throats cut open cleanly.

But there was another stranger standing there who was looking at her. He had a full robotic body and instead of a face, he had a black visor on it. He was holding a long katana which was had cool, neon blue colour on the edge of the sword.

Emily was shocked by this, she never seen someone look like this before and in her eyes, this stranger has saved her from certain death. Her eyes were fully open now and she still had some courage left in her to ask a simple question:

"Who are you?" Emily's voice was raspy and shaky thanks to all of the shouting and crying. The figure didn't move or didn't do anything, he just replied shortly and briefly with a male voice that was mixed with a robotic like voice:

"Sorry for your loss kiddo. It's not safe for you to be here anymore. And as for who I am, that is not your business." The strange figure had a black hoodie on him and leggings that seemed to have some kind blue things floating in it, it wasn't completely long enough to hide his cybernetics, but just short enough to see a little bit of his body.

He pulled his hoodie over his face and turned around to leave the scene, but before he did leave. He left with an offering

"If you want to see another day, come and find me. You seem smart enough to find where we are." And with that, he dissappear into nothing, but into thin air and the only thing he left behind was a card which was a jumble of words and codes that didn't make sense at all.

Emily picked it up and observed it from up close, wiping the tears away from her eyes so she could see better. She recongised that this was some sort of code that has to be cracked to reveal an actual message. Emily let out a sigh and the exhaustion hit her body like a truck, she collapsed onto the floor and fainted, getting some sleep which wasn't very restful, but it was something.
