Hello, everyone !
This is the first time I've ever written a CSI: NY fic. Among other CSI shows, this one is my favorite. I've rewatched in over and over and finally have the guts—and also the idea—of writing a fic *teehee*
It won't be a long fic, since this is just a single case. There's also a slight Danny and Lindsay moments here (THEY'RE MY FAVORITE COUPLE) :D
I hope you enjoy reading it !
Disclaimer: I only own the plot
It was another usual day in New York, with a chilly morning breeze in the middle of fall. A slender woman took a look on her watch and then stared at the closed door.
"Where's our CEO?"
The woman looked at a man—one of 10 men that were present in that meeting room this morning—and let out a smile. "It seems that our CEO is running a bit late. I'll go and check up on him."
She then quickly walked in her high heels out from that meeting room, making her way towards the CEO's office.
"Sir?" The woman gently called after she knocked twice on the door. "The meeting is supposed to start five minutes ago. Is there a problem, Sir?"
The woman placed her ear on the door, but no response coming from inside.
"Sir?" The woman knocked once more.
There was still no response.
Having a bad feeling because she knew her boss wasn't the type of person that would just run away from a meeting, the woman then turned the door's knob. The office's door was opened and her eyes scanned the surprisingly empty office.
However, turned out it wasn't exactly empty. A body was lying on the floor.
"Ah, Monday morning."
Mac Taylor smiled slightly upon hearing the comment from his Assistant Supervisor. Jo Danville put down her crime scene kit, then stared at the dead body on the floor.
"Now that's what I call 'bloated'." Jo commented.
Mac squatted down beside the dead body, noticing a puncture wound on the abnormally swollen abdomen.
"This guy was injected with something." Mac said.
"Do we have an ID on him?" Jo asked.
"Harris-Robert Lee." Don Flack stepped into the room while reading his notebook. "His secretary, Miss Abigail Crown over there, is the one who found the victim. Apparently, our victim here is the CEO of this company which is renowned as a creditor company for start-ups and small-size companies. He was five minutes late for a morning meeting, so the secretary came back looking for him. When she opened the door, she found him dead like this and called 911."
"Was he still alive before the meeting?" Jo asked.
"No idea." Don answered. "But miss secretary said that her boss often spend nights in his office, especially if there's a morning meeting the next day."
"Who's the last one to see him alive last night?" Mac asked.
"Everyone." Don said. "They clocked out at exactly 8 p.m last night and saw the CEO entered his office after bidding them goodbye."
"Check the CCTVs, maybe someone returned without clocking in to see him." Mac said.
"On it." Don nodded and stepped out of the office.
Jo also squatted down beside the victim's body and put on her latex gloves. She took a look at the victim's right hand. "His hand is not swollen and I don't see any other swollen body parts."
"I can only see one puncture wound on the abdomen." Mac said. "Whoever the killer is, they were skilled enough to kill our victim in a single shot."
"But our victim definitely fought back." Jo said as she slowly opened the victim's clenched right hand. "His hand was clenching a cutter and there's a piece of black fabric on the tip."
Mac also looked over and then scanned the room. He then stood up and walked towards the desk, then bent his body a bit to pick up a leather black glove which was lying under the desk. He turned the glove over, noticing a slash on the palm part.
"He definitely fought back." Mac confirmed. "And maybe, he slashed deep enough for us to get a DNA."
Both Jo and Mac put the evidences they found into the sample collection bags. Right then, Danny Messer, Lindsay Monroe, and Sheldon Hawkes walked over with a crime scene kit on their hands.
"That's some serious bloating." Sheldon commented.
"Did you know that Danny's tummy looked like that on weekends?" Lindsay added.
"Of course not." Danny snorted at his girlfriend's remarks. "You've seen my abs with its beautiful packs."
"No explicit content on Monday morning, please." Sheldon said.
"It's not explicit." Danny said. He then playfully gasped. "Oh my god, doc… Did some naughty thoughts about my abs just crossed your mind?"
"Yeah, right." Sheldon snorted.
"Alright boys, time to get your focus on our case." Jo chuckled. "We found a slashed leather glove and a cutter clenched inside our victim's hand."
"He fought back." Sheldon and Danny replied at the same time.
Mac nodded. "You three process the crime scene and see if you can find anything else. We'll take the body back to Sid for an autopsy."
"Will do, boss." Danny nodded.
Mac and Jo then stepped out from the office along with the dead body, making their way back to the crime lab. Lindsay, Danny, and Sheldon then spread out to the entire room to look for any kind of evidence. They carefully waved their flashlight across every inch of the room.
Then, Lindsay's eyes caught something which was a bit glinting near the chair and squatted down. She took out her pinsette and clipped the curious object to take a look at it closer. It was a piece of metal clip painted in red. Lindsay put it into a evidence bag and looked for another evidence.
Meanwhile, Danny was dusting the doorknob and he got a few visible prints. He took all of those fingerprints, hoping one of them belonged to the culprit.
"I don't see any syringe or needle to puncture our victim." Sheldon said.
"The culprit might have thrown it out." Danny stood up. "No signs of breaking in, so the culprit most likely is someone acquainted with the victim."
"Anyone working in this company could be it." Sheldon added. "I'll go check the dumpster to see if there's anything that could be our murder weapon there." He then stepped out of the room.
"No blood or other traces." Lindsay stood up after a moment and turned off her flashlight. "This is a quite clean crime scene if you ask me."
"Agree." Danny nodded as he stared at the vacant area on the floor which was where the victim previously lied on. "What kind of injection do you think could cause his stomach to be so swollen?"
"I don't know." Lindsay took off her latex gloves. "This is the first time I've seen a stomach so swollen like that. Let's just hope Sid could provide the answer for us."
Unfortunately, dr. Sid Hammerback didn't quite have the answer. However, he provided clues for it. It all happened when Jo stopped by at noon to check on Sid's autopsy results.
"Hey, Sid." Jo stepped into the autopsy room. "What do you have for me about our bloated victim?"
"Hello there, Jo." Sid put on his glasses and showed the opened body of Harris-Robert Lee to Jo. "Well, unfortunately, I don't have much for you. One thing I am sure of is that our victim didn't die of illness. His medical records were clean, he doesn't have any congenital diseases. His liver and lungs were in a good condition, as well as his other organs. But combining the facts from his abnormal ascites and puncture wound, I'm quite sure your victim was poisoned."
Jo frowned a bit. "What kind of poison could cause your stomach to bulge like that?"
"Well, I can't answer you that, but his ascites isn't my official cause of death." Sid said.
"What's his COD?" Jo asked.
"Take a look at this." Sid then handed a magnifying glass to Jo. "Can you see a tiny hole here in his intestine?"
Jo looked over the magnifying glass and found the hole Sid mentioned. "Yes, I can see that. What does this hole tell us?"
"His COD is heart attack." Sid answered. "The poison used to kill our victim travelled from the digestive system to the heart through the bloodstream. It then disrupted his heart rhythm, causing a heart attack."
"Hmm…" Jo put down the magnifying glass on the autopsy table. "There are plenty of poison that could cause a heart attack."
"But you're looking for a poison that could be metabolised by the body quickly." Sid added and handed a file to Jo. "Take a look, this is the tox report of our victim."
Jo took a look at the file and her frowns deepened. "Wait a minute. There's a weak peak of an unknown trace in his blood."
"Exactly. The time of death is about six to eight hours ago and whatever this substance is, it was metabolized rather quickly by the body." Sid answered.
Jo blinked twice. "The time of death is six to eight hours ago? So our victim wasn't killed last night, but this morning?"
"Yes." Sid answered.
"And the poison used most likely isn't a synthetic one since there's only a weak trace left of it now." Jo said. "Alright, thanks a lot Sid."
Done !
Wow, I didn't think I could write it this long XD
What do you think about this chapter ?
