ShikaIno1: I don't blame you! And I agree; it will never be the same.

Alpha Slayer: I know. And thank you; I value your opinion on those parts. I googled the meme; it was funny and it applies. And I can totally imagine Damian as the nice cat and Dick as the naughty one...hmm, thanks in advance for the idea.

Everyone: Thanks for sticking with me through the twists, turns, and cliffhangers of my stories. Much love. Stay safe, thanks for reading, be happy, and happy reading.

A Slave for Her

Chapter Fourteen

Dick could recognize a setup when he saw one. It wasn't difficult to detect, especially when he could sense the clues through his bond with Raven, along with her wavering resolution.

Sometimes the clues would come in the form of her nervousness, other times in the form of her joy. Many times in the form of her love. Love that she should only feel for him.

Nevertheless, all of these clues pointed to the fact that Damian was trying to push him completely out of Rae's heart and shift her attention to him.

It was working.

Yet, to Raven's credit, she never allowed her feelings towards Damian to linger for a long period of time. However, they did linger. Returning the next day or second. Pushing his love in the corner until Damian was no longer her focus.

And that was when he felt her guilt and remorse. She was apologetic, and then her love for him once again became her primary feeling.

That feeling would shine brightly through their bond, chasing all the shadows of doubts away from his mind. Or it would have if her guilt wasn't so strong.

Nevertheless, he didn't, couldn't, nor would blame Raven for her love for Damian. Not when he could clearly see where her love for Damian steam from. It came from a woman with a lonely heart, who lived under Trigon's rule; while, on the other hand, her love for him came from a woman, who beat the odds with her own strength and experienced love, friendship, and happiness in her lifetime.

Both women were now one.

However, he could and was royally pissed off at Damian.

Damian had come to their home, waving an olive branch and bearing peace offerings. He had claimed that he wanted to repair the now complex relationship and work on building a new one that would suit their situation.

He knew Damian.

He knew his words were a lie, but he had hoped that they were true.

And although he had expected this from Damian, he couldn't forgive or overlook the fact that he was trying to take his love and wife away. He had overlooked it the first time since they didn't know, but he couldn't overlook it a second time.

"Are we close?" Jon's words penetrated his thoughts.

Dick looked up at the boy, who was carrying him through the sky, and answered. "Yeah, we're almost there. Once you pass that mountain, it will be the first cabin that you see."

"Gotcha."

"Thanks for giving me a lift."

"No problem. Especially since you gave me a week of your time to help me with the space treaty."

The treaty with the Glanains, who usually had a good relationship with Earth, had to be revised since they had suddenly become displeased with their old treaty.

Jon continued, "With dad retiring to spend more time with mom and I'm trying to be my own man, I didn't want him to come along, but I was kind of nervous to go by myself." They passed the mountain, and Jon descended.

"There's nothing wrong with asking for help. That's what friends and team members are for."

"You sound like my dad."

"Well, he's a wise man and a great guy."

"I know. So is Batman."

"You don't have to lie."

"I was talking about him being wise." They shared a chuckle as they landed.

"So, why are we here?" Jon asked as they walked to the large chain. "I thought you would want to return to Raven's side since we finished the treaty earlier than expected."

He did.

Mainly because of the stomach pain and the doctor's warning for her to relax more had scared him. He wanted nothing to go wrong with her pregnancy.

"I do," he answered, "but one of my contacts that had been helping me out on a mission got made right after we left for space. Fortunately, he was able to go into hiding, and we returned early. I couldn't imagine what would have happened if we didn't."

"Oh." Jon rubbed the back of his neck and glanced down. "It's a good thing that we came back early then."

"Yeah, it is. Thanks for bringing me here. You really help me out by saving me time to get here."

"No problem. Like you said, that's what teammates and friends are for."

"You're a good guy, Jon." Dick told him while placing his hand on his shoulder and opening the cabin door with the other. "That's why I almost feel bad about this."

"Bad for what?" Jon said as he walked inside, with Dick behind him.

"For kicking your butt, kid." Jason replied as Dick sealed the door behind him and turned on the light, revealing Red Hood in an empty cabin.

Jon turned to Dick, who leaned against the door. "What's going on?"

"See, that's a great question, kid." Jason replied, gaining Jon's attention. "I asked myself that same question a couple of days ago when some personal information about my past leaked to some very unpleasant acquaintances of mine.

"It created a field day for me and my wife for a few days. Thankfully, a family member had dropped by for an unexpected visit and helped handle the situation. Yet, I couldn't help but wonder who would or could leak that information. It wasn't hard to put two and three together."

"It was Damian, wasn't it?" Dick spoke up.

It was easy to figure out once Raven had told him that Jason couldn't come to stay with her as he had requested. He knew Jason wouldn't have flaked out on him unless it was something important, because he needed someone to be there for Raven in case she needed to go to the hospital, and he didn't trust Damian.

He had been right not to. He just felt bad that Jason got dragged into their battle.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Jon answered.

"Jon, you're a terrible liar, just like your father. It was Damian, who created the panic with the Glainian's treaty over an old clause so that you could ask me to go with you in space.

"And it was Damian who made you leak that information to my enemies," Jason added, and the guilt on Jon's face confirmed it.

"You're a good friend, kid. And usually, I would let this slide, but you see, my angry wife has disappeared on me, but not before filing for a divorce. And I need someone to help me blow off some steam.

"What are you planning to do? Jump me?"

"Jump you, no." Dick replied. "It will be a fair fight between you and Red Hood. Unless you want to tell us what else you and Damian had planned. I know that this was only part one of his plans: To get Raven alone with him."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Good, kid. I didn't want you to tell us. I want to beat it out of you."

Jon chuckled. "Come on. You think you can take me? I'll be out of here before you throw the first punch. Fair fight? Ha. There won't even be a fight."

Dick and Jason laughed, causing Jon to look at them as if they were crazy.

"Damian should have told you, Jon." Dick said. "All members of the Bat-Family were taught how to take down Superman and his son. It's difficult but doable. A lot easier when you have time to prepare."

"And thanks to you, kid. I had a lot of time to get ready with my wife gone. Use your vision to check the cabin."

He frowned. "Kryptonite"

"A friendly word of advice, kid. Always use your vision to check a room or building that you are about to enter even if you are with a friend that you trust."

"Your father would have felt its effect immediately, but since you are half human, it would have taken you an hour to notice. Even though it takes only ten minutes for Kryptonite to start eating away at your powers. Making you no stronger than a human by thirty." Dick explained.

"How long has it been since you two entered, and we started this conversation?" Jason asked, cracking his knuckle.

"Twelve minutes."

"Great. We can begin. We got about eighteen minutes before this fight becomes completely unfair."

"You can't be serious." Jon said, looking back and forward between the two.

"Are you planning on telling us part two of Damian's plan?"

"I don't need eighteen minutes." Jon raised his fist.

Jason chuckled, taking off his jacket. "You got heart."

"Go easy on him, Jason. He's just being a good friend."

"I'll see what I can do."

Damian glanced at his phone and frowned. Jon still hadn't texted him back. But knowing his friend, he could have lost or broken his phone during his adventure.

Damian tucked his phone inside of his pocket and entered the bedroom that Raven was in.

"What are you doing?" He asked, causing Raven to drop the paintbrush that she was holding. Fortunately, the floor was covered in newspaper.

She spun around toward him, and answered, "Painting," before turning back around and using her magic to summon the paintbrush to her hand.

"You should be resting."

"I'm pregnant, not sick." She said, dipping the brush into the paint can and taking the brush out to paint on the wall.

"The doctor said that you need to rest."

"No, the doctor said that I should take it easy. Besides, I find this to be relaxing and easy."

He frowned, wishing that she would listen. "I think you should rethink your position on the matter. Besides, the paint fumes can't be healthy for my son."

"That's why I'm wearing a mask to protect our son." She dipped the brush back into the can and took it out. "Do you think I would endanger our son for a paint job?"

"No...you're not going to stop, are you?"

"I thought that we already established that. Do you want to help? There's another paintbrush." She nodded to the extra brush that was on the floor.

He sighed as he moved to pick up the brush. "And you say that I'm stubborn."

"Damian, there is stubbornness, and then there is you."

"I'll take it as a compliment."

"Of course, you would."

He started painting the wall. "Soon, we will have to paint the baby room," he said, referring to the baby room in this house, not the one at the farmhouse that was already painted.

"Oh, so I get to paint my baby's room but not Elainna's room."

"No, you don't. When I said 'we', I meant Grayson and I, and Elainna can paint her own room herrself."

"She can help paint her own room, but she can't paint it by herself. She's only nine."

He scoffed. "So what? I killed my first target at eight."

"And she also wasn't raised by the League of Assassins."

"Hmm. She's missing out."

"Okay… just so we're clear my son will not be raised by the League of Assassins either."

"Of course not. My son doesn't need the League; he only needs me to train him."

"For some reason, that scares me more."

He reached down to dip his brush into the paint at the same time as Raven. Their faces were inches apart. If he made one simple move, then their lips would touch and he would experience a taste of heaven.

But he would setback his plan by some months or possibly a year, and everything had to be done in order or else Raven would turn away from him. So instead, he only said, "You're beautiful."

A blush crept on her cheek, and she took a step back while he dipped the brush into the can. He went back to painting the wall.

After a while, from the corner of his eyes, he saw Raven follow suit.

"I didn't mean to make things awkward. I was only speaking the truth. You're beautiful. I hope our son will have most of your features."

"Damian…"

"I know. I know. I'm sorry, but can you bear with me? It's difficult to let you go, especially since I didn't want to. Sorry, I shouldn't have said that."

"...Thank you for trying. And thank you for getting along with Dick... It means a lot to me... I want for all of our relationships to return back to normal."

"R'Fina was normal to me. Sorry…" This was the most that he ever had to apologize in his life, and he didn't even mean it.

"Can you answer this for me?" He asked. "Is it easy for you to forget my love for you, or are you struggling too?"

"...Damian, I-" Her stomach growled.

Damian dropped the brush in the can before bending down so that Raven's stomach was in front of his face. "Are you and your mother hungry? Give me a moment. I will have dinner ready for you two?" He stood back up and talked to Raven. "I'll have dinner ready in a few, but I'll bring you some snacks to eat until then. This will also be a good time for you to take a break from the paint fumes."

"I'm almost done." She glanced around the room while he shook his head.

"At least eat the snacks. I won't forgive you if you starve my son."

She gave me a small smile. "Fine."

"Good." He left the room without her answer, but he never wanted it since he knew it. He only wanted to shake her resolution.

Not long after he left, he returned with the snacks before heading down to the kitchen to cook.

Thirty minutes later, Damian had finished cooking his famous spaghetti. He turned off the stove and moved to call Raven to come and eat.

He stopped in his tracks when he saw Grayson leaning against the kitchen wall.

"Well, don't you look cozy? Cooking dinner for my wife. Feeding my wife. And living here with her. All the while plotting to put me in a coma. By the way, Jon said 'hi'." Grayson threw him a cellphone that he caught.

"Don't worry," he continued. "He's okay. He's just recovering from some minor wounds and being exposed to Kryptonite. Jason said that he would be out of the hospital in a couple of days. Ironically, he would be out on the same day that we were supposed to return from outer space. I also think that we should expect a visit from Superman soon."

"Grayson, let me explain." Damian said calmly.

"You mean let you lie. You were plotting to put me in an induced coma for God knows how long while you slowly got closer to Raven. You were planning to take me away from my family. Tell me, Damian. Jon wasn't exactly clear about this part: how were you planning to make it look like an accident?"

"It's not what you think."

"Is it?"

No, it wasn't. It was much worse than he knew, but he got the part about being in an induced coma right.

"Jason said that I should kick your butt, and I am tempted to do just that, but I know what would be even better: I'm curious to know what Raven will think about your plan."

Damian's heart froze. He didn't have to wonder about what Raven would think.

He knew.

Just as he knew what her reaction would be.

So, when he saw Dick turn to walk out of the kitchen, he said, "Will you tell her, knowing that it will emotionally affect her during her pregnancy?"

It was a low blow. They both knew it, and they both knew that his words were true.

Dick turned around with a grin. "So, I guess I'll have to settle for kicking your butt."

Damian scoffed. "You can try."

"Raven smiled at the freshly painted room. She had a feeling that Elainna would fall in love with it when she saw it, especially once they set up her furniture. She couldn't wait to see her reaction.

Elainna had been begging Dick to change her room for over a year now. Between his daytime job as a spy, his nighttime job as a crime fighter, and his full-time job as a father, he hadn't been able to find time until this summer after he quit his daytime job.

He had wanted to have the room finished by the time she returned from her summer with Starfire and the Teen Titans, but his timeline was pushed back because of her appearance and his trip to outer space. So Raven volunteered to help.

Her smile dropped as nervousness settled in her heart, followed by guilt.

She was nervous that Elainna wouldn't like her, despite the fact they have gotten along since Dick introduced them via a virtual platform.

Since then, they talked or texted every day. Their conversations, so far, had been pleasant and full of questions. Elainna wouldn't go a day without asking her at least two questions. And, she in return would ask her at least two too.

Yet, as their conversations grew to a certain level of comfort between them, she couldn't help but feel guilty for her unresolved feeling for Damian, especially since he had been living with her for the last week, since Dick had been gone and because of Jason's family circumstance.

When she told Dick about the new arrangement, she thought that Dick would have been upset over the news, but surprisingly, he had taken the news well.

Or so she thought until a loud crash caught her attention.

She rushed to the sound, concerned about Damian's safety. However, she was surprised to find that Dick had returned home and was in a fight with Damian.

She used her powers to separate the two. "What's going on?"

She never got to hear their answer as she fell to the ground and her eyelids closed.
