Disclaimer: I do not own J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium, Buffyverse or anything else you may recognize

So this was another idea I had for a good while, and decided- "Let's just do it, it'll be fun."

Since Tolkien's works and their adaptations are my most favorite thing ever, and I'm very much invested in Buffyverse nowadays, a crossover between them was inevitable.

Also, originally I planned a Hobbit/Arrowverse crossover and I even had it all finalized, but now my interest in the Arrowverse is gone due to how mishandled it is, I really don't care much about it.

So I'll only be writing one-shots or multi-fandom crossovers for Arrowverse since that's the only way I can write for Arrowverse from now on.

This will be a 2-part series, first one will be The Hobbit Trilogy, second one will be The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

I would like to thank Marcus S. Lazarus and Brainstorm Sorcerer for their help with this story, and Bl4ckHunter for some suggestions.

This takes place during Angel Season 3/Buffy Season 6, for Angel it's during 3x17 and goes AU from there, while for Buffy it's after 6x17 but before 6x18, and based on what my plans are, it will go AU for them too.

Also, for how magic works in the Buffyverse, I do understand it, but it's kind of complicated or inconsistent at times, so I'll be taking some creative liberties of my own, starting with this chapter itself, hope no one minds.

Thank you to Bl4ckHunter for some help with the title as well.

I also have an explanation for why Angel survives in daylight in Middle-earth with Brainstorm's help, so thank you to him.

Hope everyone enjoys.

Chapter 1- When things go wrong

Willow was working on her laptop, thinking about the recent little incident where Buffy had tried to kill her, Dawn, Xander and then Tara as well over her delusions of that other reality, and only snapped back to her senses in the nick of time.

If she still had her magic, she could have defended herself better, probably even taken Buffy out.

But she didn't deserve magic. She had used it selfishly for bad ends. She had violated Tara with it to the point Tara had enough and left her, and she had been right to do so.

Then she'd hurt herself with the magic, and got Dawn into an accident, breaking her little girl's arm.

Magic had brought her and Tara together, it was supposed to be sacred, but she had used it to betray Tara completely, and then hurt Dawn.

It was a miracle the others even talked to her.

She was broken out of her thoughts when she heard the phone ring, and walked towards it, getting it before Dawn could. "Hello."

"Oh, thank God Willow, I wanted to talk to you."

"Angel?" Willow said in surprise, not having expected him. She'd figured he'd want to talk to Buffy if he was calling here, why her?

"What's the matter?"

"Look, it's really important, I need to sort of open a rip in the Dimension, you're a powerful witch, right? You can help me!"

Willow hated to disappoint, especially since she could hear the desperation in Angel's voice. Whatever it was, it was clearly personal. "Look, I'd love to help but-"

"Willow, please! It's….it's a matter of life and death. I need your help."

Willow thought for about 5 seconds, then said. "All right, fine, I'll be on my way to LA."

"Thank you so much", Angel said in gratitude as the call was cut.

"What happened?" Dawn asked Willow out of curiosity.

"Angel wants my help with some magic stuff", Willow told her. "He sounded pretty shaken up, must be important."

"But you're not using magic right now, are you?" Dawn asked.

"No, I'm not, so I'll call her", Willow said.

"You sure?" Dawn asked.

"Well, she'd want to help", Willow shrugged.

"Maybe I can come with you", Dawn suggested.

"What? No! What will you do?" Willow asked, slightly agitated.

"Well, you see what's going on here?" Dawn pointed out. "Buffy just tried to kill us a while ago, and I love Xander, Anya I only kind of like, we weren't that close, but really, what he did to her was wrong, so right now I don't have the best feelings towards him."

Willow wanted to get Dawn to stay, but she'd a feeling it'd just waste more time, which Angel didn't need.

"Okay fine, you can come with us", Willow agreed with a shrug.

"Thanks", Dawn nodded with a smile as Willow picked up the phone to call Tara.

Tara had just come out of the shower, a towel wrapped around her when she heard the phone ring and picked up. "Yeah?"

"Hey, it's Willow!"

"What's the matter, Will?" Tara asked kindly, hoping it wasn't too bad.

"So, you know about Angel, right?"

"Yeah, why?" Tara asked.

"He called me for help. He wants to magically open a rip in the Dimension or something, but I'm not using magic currently, so can you come with me please?" Willow requested as Tara started considering. "I know I have no right to ask you, don't do this for me, do this for Angel, he said it's a matter of life and death, and he sounded really shaken up."

At that moment, Tara made her decision. "I'm coming."

"Thank you."

The call was then cut as Tara started getting ready. Even if things were still not fully fixed between Willow and herself, she was going to help out anyone who needed it.

Next day, Los Angeles, Hyperion Hotel

Angel stood in the darkened room staring at Wesley's desk. Lorne entered, watching Angel's back for a beat. "I, uh, cleaned the Pentagram as best I could. The dried blood... well, it's starting to be a look out there."

"Thanks."

Lorne shrugged. "You know me, like to keep busy. I'd crochet a new pillar if I could afford the yarn."

Angel sighed. "It's not right."

"Figure of speech. I'm aware you can't crochet a pillar." A beat. "And I'm aware that's not what you're talking about."

Angel said regretfully. "All I could think of was getting my hands on SahJhan; Fred and Gunn tried to keep me from..."

"Going too far?" Lorne asked as well as finished.

Angel told him. "I nearly got them killed."

Lorne had to agree there. "Yeah you did. Glad it didn't work out that way."

Angel picked up a cup from Wesley's tea set. "You think Wes is...?"

"I don't know. I hope for the best", Lorne moved a little closer to him. "Angel, there's a bigger picture here. And in that bigger picture there's a glass."

Angel snarled. "If the words "glass is half full" are about to come out of your mouth, don't."

Lorne pointed out. "No, this is more a "glass half full of spiked blood." If Sahjhan and that lady lawyer had pulled off their feeding plan you'd have Connor's blood on your hands."

Angel looked at him for a beat. "Don't I anyway?"

"No. You think there was something more you could have done? You did everything you could with the knowledge you had..." Lorne trailed off. "...just like Wesley."

Then they heard the door open as Angel disagreed. "Not everything."

He turned to see Willow, Tara and Dawn walk in and asked Tara. "Who're you?"

"Tara, you must be Angel", Tara noted and Angel nodded.

"Why are you here, Dawnie?" Angel asked her.

"Didn't want to stay in Sunnydale", Dawn shrugged.

"Oh my God! Wiccas, powerful ones, and the Key!" Lorne said in surprise, getting it from their aura. "Why the hell did you even call them here?"

"Like I said, not everything", Angel shrugged.

"What? No Angelcakes, this is a bad, bad idea", Lorne started.

"What happened here?" Willow simply asked.

"A guy that hates me jumped into a rip in the Dimension with my son is what happened", Angel scoffed, the grief in his voice now clear as all three felt their greatest sympathies go out to him. "And the Demon who opened the rip says he can't anymore, and he's gone."

"Wait what? You've a son?" Dawn then asked.

"Long story, not important, but I need your help in getting him back!" Angel snapped, taking them aback.

"You want us to try to open the rip, right?" Willow asked and Angel nodded.

"Can you take us to where the rip was opened?" Tara asked. "It'll help."

"Sure", Angel agreed.

"It's daytime, Angelcakes", Lorne pointed out.

"Top goes up", Angel told him when Lorne got a call and went to pick it as Angel went out with Willow, Tara and Dawn following him.

Later

Angel stopped his convertible, sitting inside to shield himself from the sunlight as Willow, Tara and Dawn walked out, Willow holding a book about portals and rips as she turned over the pages. "You feel anything?"

"The energies of the rip, they are still here, but they are dying down", Tara told Willow as she used her power to feel it out.

"I can't feel it", Willow shook her head. Not using her magic had disconnected her from it for now. "Sorry."

"It's all right", Tara assured her as she started chanting with closed eyes, but nothing seemed to happen. "It's not gonna open here, the energy is gone."

"What do we do then?" Dawn asked.

"Well", Tara opened her bag and taking out some special powder, sprinkled it on the ground, spreading it, before kneeling as she touched it with both hands and closed her eyes, chanting again.

The powder glowed and the energy passed through it into Tara as she sighed and got back up.

From a distance, in a van, Warren and Andrew watched the three via binoculars, with Jonathan sitting behind them. They'd followed Willow, Tara and Dawn to LA to see what they were up to in case it had anything to do with them so they'd be prepared.

"What are they doing?" Jonathan asked.

"No idea man, but if they are here, it must be for something", Andrew said. "Maybe we should plant cameras at the Hyperion too."

"Yeah, the people are the Slayer's allies, we must defeat them as well if we are to succeed in becoming ultimate supervillains", Warren said, then gave an evil laugh, Andrew joining him, but Jonathan did not.

After the incident with Katrina, he was regretting being part of this group, they were hurting innocent people, and Buffy had helped him when he needed it, twice, she did not look down on him or ignore his existence like the others.

So why was he with these two, trying to ruin the lives of Buffy and her friends?

Warren and Andrew saw the three walk back into the convertible as the former said. "Let's follow 'em, it will give us a feel of this place and how the guy in the trench coat works."

Angel drove the convertible as he asked Tara. "Explain the whole thing to me again."

"Well basically, the energy of the rip is still there, but it is dying, and it cannot be opened HERE again", Tara told Angel. "But like portals, rips too have hot spots via which they can be opened."

"But they are a lot more unstable than a portal, reopening it can destroy the Universe", Willow warned him.

"I want my son back, and please, you two have experience, you can open it without a problem, right?" Angel asked.

"We can try", Tara told him. She did want to help him find his son, he seemed a good man, and desperate too. She'd absorbed the little energy left in the area and was using it to track down the next hot spot for the rip she could find. "Take a left."

Later

It was close to night time now as Angel commented. "Well, this is weird."

"What?" Dawn asked. "That the hot spot is in a prison."

"Faith's here", Angel told them, and now Dawn paled.

"Well damn!" She said.

"Hey! You don't know the kind of person she is now", Angel said to Dawn, who shrank under his gaze.

"Maybe she is trying to change now", Willow agreed with Angel as Tara looked at her from the side for a second, knowing she was referring to herself there too. She knew Willow was trying to change, she hadn't used magic for a good while, but there was still something between them, an invisible wall, which prevented things from going back to how they used to be.

"So, what now?" Tara asked.

"I'll talk to Faith, she can help", Angel said as he got up and walked inside, before getting a call from Gunn, and picked it up, annoyed. "Yeah?"

"Where have you been all day, man? We've been looking for you. Wes is banged up and can't speak but he'll-"

"Don't say his name!" Angel snarled and Gunn shut up on the other end. "As for where I am, I am at Faith's prison with Willow, Tara and Dawnie, they say another rip can be opened here, this place is a hot spot."

"Look, I get it, you want your kid back, but it's ris-"

Angel cut the call and walked inside.

Later

Faith sat in front of Angel in the prison as she picked the phone, the glass between them. "Hey, how are you?"

"Sorry Faith, but this isn't a social visit", Angel told her with a shake of his head. "My son's been kidnapped and taken to another Dimension through an opening in the Universe."

Faith did know of his son, since he'd told her once while visiting her a few weeks ago, and her face said what she felt. "I'm sorry to hear that."

"Anyway, I called Willow, she came here with Tara and Dawnie, they say another portal can be opened here", Angel revealed to Faith, whose eyes perked up in interest. "I want this area cleared out, any idea how?"

Faith leaned in close and whispered. "There's a fire alarm out back, ring it, it will all be clear in a few minutes."

"And cameras?" Angel asked.

"I'll take care of 'em from a side", Faith assured with a nod. Angel had helped her, he had saved her, she'd do anything to save his son, no matter what.

"Thanks Faith", Angel said gratefully.

"Don't mention it", Faith assured as they got up and walked off in opposite directions, Faith preparing to do her part.

A few seconds later, the alarm rang as people started screaming in fear but a guard said. "Evacuate in an orderly manner. There's a corridor that leads to the yard-"

There was some chaos but eventually, everyone got evacuated other than Faith, who'd hidden herself, and now with everyone gone, she could do her part.

She reached up to a camera from the side and ripped it out, throwing it to the ground, then shattered it with her foot.

Then she leapt out of the glass, shattering it as she saw another camera on the side, and snuck up to it, then leapt up and shattered it with a punch before jumping back down, and turned to see Willow, Angel, Tara and Dawn finally having come in.

"Hey Willow", Faith greeted with a wave. "Kiddo."

"Faith", Dawn said with gritted teeth, her arms folded.

"We've met before", Faith commented to Tara. "I was-"

"Yeah, I know", Tara said as she opened her bag and started taking some ingredients out, including powder, which she handed to Dawn. "Sprinkle it."

"Yeah", Dawn nodded as she started doing what was ordered, while Angel paced anxiously.

"Will this work?" Angel asked.

"Look, it is still risky", Tara told him. "I'm not sure I can do it, and even if I do it-"

"Please", Angel practically begged, and Tara decided it was best to do it, if anything started going wrong she'd close it immediately.

"What are you gonna do now?" Faith asked as Dawn was done sprinkling the powder.

"Get in touch with the energy", Tara said before turning to Dawn. "Uhh, Dawn, there's something I need to ask you."

"What?" Dawn asked.

"Willow isn't using magic right now, so her connection to it is weak", Tara told her. "But you, well, you're the Key, you have the energy inside of you, even if you don't use it, so-"

"I can open it?" Dawn asked.

"You have to hold me to let me access your energy, I will do the job", Tara said. "But only if you want to, there is no harm if you don't, I'll do something else. It is your choice, Dawnie, I'm not going to force you."

Dawn looked at Angel, who seemed to be hanging by a thread barely, then back at Tara. She may be a whiny brat sometimes, but her heart was always in the right place, and like Tara, she never hesitated to help those who needed it.

"I'll help", Dawn nodded as Tara had a proud smile.

"Kiddo's a hero too now", Faith quipped.

"Good luck", Willow said, raising two thumbs as Dawn held Tara by the hand, and Tara pointed her hand at the powder, closing her eyes and chanting as her hand started glowing.

"Whoa, that's new", Faith quipped as the energy from Tara's hand turned into some kind of mist and enveloped the powder, then swirled as it started taking the shape of a hole, before lightning flashed as a giant rip was finally opened.

"It is open!" Tara said. "Go Angel!"

Before Angel could jump in, the energy of the rip got unstable and lightning cracked from it, the five barely avoiding it as a powerful wind started blowing, slowly pulling them all.

"Close it!" Angel ordered. Even if he wanted his son badly, it wasn't worth this.

Tara tried to chant as she was about to clap her hands together but the rip got even more unstable, and the wind sucked all five of them inside as they screamed.

Tara clapped her hands just as they all passed through the rip at the same time while Warren, Andrew and Jonathan arrived behind them, holding some high-tech weapons.

"What the hell?" Warren asked when the rip sucked them in too.

"NOOOOO!" The Trio screamed at the same time but it was too late as they got sucked in too, and the rip then closed.

The only sign of Willow, Angel, Tara, Faith and Dawn having been there was the powder and bag of supplies.

But they were gone.

So it begins.

A little convoluted I know, but hope it made sense. And I know Tara isn't the kind of person to use such magic rashly, but she is a highly sensitive, kind, caring and empathetic individual, so she wanted Angel to find his son and was doing everything in her power to help.

Plus, she was ready to close the rip in case anything bad happened, but she didn't count on how hard it would be.

And since the bit with Angel and Wesley at 3x17's end didn't happen, you can already see how this is changing.

Plus, the Trio did get sucked into Middle-earth as well, but they won't be arriving at the same spot as Willow, Angel, Tara, Faith and Dawn (guess where those five ended up?)

Now guess where the Trio ended up? *Winks* Hint- it's not very pleasant. And we will see them again.

Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter. Stay safe from the coronavirus ya all!
