Jason
Jason was training when he heard the commotion outside the fifth's castra, from what he could hear quite a few legionaries were watching the current events. He made his way out of the fifth cohorts area and into the middle, towards the large group of legionaries. He arrived at the back of the pack but found himself unable to see over the taller and older legionaries, he was only 13 after all. He stealthily weaved through the armed and armoured crowd, eventually arriving at the front, and asked one of the legionaries, Michael Kahale about the situation. "Hey mike, what's going on?" He asked, in regard to the gathering, the legionary of the first gave him a sidelong glance before pointing towards the crest of the hill and towards the tunnel, Jason squinted and made out two distinct figures. He recognised one as the mother of Rome, the goddess Lupa, in her wolf form. It was clear as to why the crowd had gathered as she hadn't been seen for many years, according to the other legionaries, she had trained Jason, but apparently others were trained by other members of her pack. He looked at the figure accompanying the wolf goddess and was surprised to see a boy, about his age, too far away currently to make out any features. Hey looked throughout the crowd and
saw Reyna, the Puerto Rican girl had slowly opened up to other members in the legion, and had made fast friends with Jason, despite the difference in their cohorts. He weaved towards her before settling beside her. "What do you reckon the newbies gonna be like?" He asked, she gained a thoughtful look, before replying, "well, if Lupas accompanying him, He's most likely the one she's been training for the past few years. I reckon he'll be good." She replied tersely, he nodded in agreement. Jason felt the crowd parting and looked to see the two praetors and all five centurions approaching, they cut an imposing figure. The centurion of the first was called Cole Navarro, son of mars. He cut an imposing figure and was a skilled swordsman and okay strategist. The second had Angela Rennie, daughter of Venus. The third had Diego Nixon, fourth had Harlow key, and the fifth had Enzo Anthony. The two praetors were at the head of the pack, and Jason gave them a once over. There was Bobby Medlow, son of Hercules. He looked similar to Jason, with darker blonde hair and duller eyes, and was the embodiment of his father, overly muscular and arrogant. Beside him was Emily James, daughter of Ceres, she had a sleek figure and calm and collected attitude, acting as the rationaliser to her counterpart's impertinence. They reached the front of the group before halting, allowing Lupa to approach. "Lady Lupa, it's a pleasure seeing you again after your apparent absence." Emily greeted, while bobby just grunted. The goddess shifted into a human form before sending both praetors a pointed look. "I was not absent from my duties, I was merely refocused onto a prospective legionary." She replied in an authoritative tone, it had an aura the made Jason want to stand straight and to attention. "And who is it?" Bobby asked bluntly, Jason winced at its apparent lack of respect. Lupa gave another pointed look at the male praetor before replying. "Allow me to introduce Perseus Jackson, son of Pluto." She announced. Jason now got a clearer look at the boy. He looked Jason's age and was about the same height as him. He hade pale skin and pitch black hair. His body was built like a swimmer and not overtly muscular, allowing for some agility. His eyes were what shocked Jason, they were deepest black he had ever seen, like staring into a void, it made his hair seem like a glowing white in comparison. They had a few flecks of gold in them, however they were nearly drowned out in the void of his eyes. He also had an interesting scar on the right of his face, it looked to be caused by lightning and it was a putrid red and ran from his jawline to eye, covering most of his cheek. Lupa spoke again, "I've been training him of six years personally, with another year being spent with his father." She explained, and Jason caught a glimpse of a legionary tattoo, with six bars adorning it. "Six years? How's the runt not dead?" Someone from the first whisper shouted, but judging from Lupa's smirk and the boy scowling Jason guessed they had both heard it. "Is has presume he will be entering a cohort by the normal means lady Lupa?" Emily asked, she nodded in affirmation, before moving towards new rome, Perseus in tow.
Deciding he wanted to know more about the mysterious new boy he followed him towards new rome, keeping a respectable distance. When they reached the borders of new rome, Terminus popped into existence beside him, Jason moved so he could hear their exchange. "Lupa, a pleasure to see you again, and who is this?" He asked, With a respectful tone Jason had never heard from the statue god. "It is indeed good to be back, This is Perseus Jackson, I've been training him for six years." She explained, Terminus cast his gaze over to the boy, "hmm yes I can sense many weapons on you. Hand them over." He demanded. Jason watched as the boy took of a skull ring and placed it into the tray provided. "And that watch boy, I know that's a weapon too." He demanded. The boy scowled before retorting "it's a shield, not a weapon, thus I am allowed it within the city." He seethed, before the pair strode into the city. Jason watched as they entered Lupa's personal estate, the gates closing behind them. Jason made his way out of the city, and collected his enchanted coin from terminus. Deciding to train, he went to soar with Reyna, despite being from different cohorts they had a friendly relationship and frequently sparred, their skill level being about on par with each other. He eventually found her fully armoured and decided to ask her, "hey Reyna, want to spar?" He asked, she looked up from her sword and nodded, walking into an arena and getting into stance, Jason mirrored her before advancing on her, deciding to have conversation during their fight he spoke up. "What do you think of the new boy?" He asked, grunting as she slammed her shield into him. "Looks alright, must be good if he's been with Lupa for six years. Still trying to think what he spent the year with his father doing, Pluto doesn't seem like the loving type." She replied, dodging a jab from Jason's gladius. He snorted in response before slamming his shield into her. "When is his test?" He asked, knowing Reyna would've asked her centurion already. "An hour, so let's finish up soon so I can shower and change, don't fancy being sweat ridden in new rome." He nodded before their duel went on, neither side gaining a definitive advantage. After around 7 minutes of clashing swords and shields, Reyna managed to sweep out Jason's legs and placed her sword under his chin before sending him a smug smirk, "yield?" She asked, Jason nodded begrudgingly. She offered a hand out to him which he took gratefully. They both made their way back to their respective barracks, washing and changing into new clothes to attend the coliseum in new rome.
Jason joined his fellow legionaries as they streamed into new rome and towards the coliseum. Jason settled in with his cohort in the stands, anxiously awaiting the trial of the son of Pluto. He watched as the praetors sat in their box, joined by Lupa, stone faced as ever. While Emily wore a stoic expression and bobby looked like he would rather be anywhere else. The gate of the arena slowly opened, and the shadows seemed to congeal around the gate, the darkness shrouding the gate as Perseus walked out. While Jason would never admit it to anyone, the new legionary looked utterly terrifying. He was wearing Stygian iron standard centurion's armour, which didn't seem to go unnoticed judging from the other centurions and praetors frowns, in contrast to Lupa's almost feral grin. He had a standard shield that was black with gold patterns, although appeared weapon less. Adorned on the front of his armour was his fathers symbol of power, the helm of darkness. Instead of standard helm, the son of Pluto wore a what appeared to be a wreath of bones, looking at it, The son of Jupiter felt pure terror creeping up his spine. He was shaken out of his inner terror by praetor Emily speaking up. "Perseus Jackson son of Pluto is seeking entrance into the legion, he will be tested against the centurions of the five cohorts and goes until he his beaten. Enter centurion of the fifth cohort, Enzo Anthony." She announced, the opposing gate opened to reveal Jason centurion, ready for the fight. Jason watched as Perseus stuck his hand out, and a gladius shot from the earth under him and into his waiting hand. He took a stance, his sword and shield by his side. When the praetor gave the signal, Perseus rushed forward swinging his sword in a arc. Enzo raised his shield to block the attack and did so successfully, Perseus swung his shield at his opponents sword arm, hitting it away from Enzos chest and leaving him open, he swung his shield again, bashing his nose in, breaking it and marring his shield with blood, before he swept out his legs and placed his sword at his throat. Enzo yielded, stunning all the attendants as he had been beaten in seconds. After a pause praetor Emily spoke up again, "Perseus wins, next is Harlow Key, centurion of the fourth." The opposing gate opened and the centurion of the fourth stepped out, looking at her opponent suspiciously. On the praetors mark neither moved, Perseus appeared to be switching up his tactics, he slowly stalked forward, crouching behind his shield as he advanced, Harlow took a ready position, before charging at the son of Pluto, aiming to take him by surprise, judging from absolutely no change in his stone faced expression he had been expecting it, and quickly dodged to the right of her, she swung her sword which was quickly stopped by his shield, his dodge had placed him at her right, and before she could turn to face him, he kicked the back of her knee forcing her on to it, before slamming the hilt of his sword into her head, instantly knocking her out. Medics quickly came to take her away, and the crowd watched on in awe as he defeated two centurions within seconds. Emily rose again before announcing Diego Nixon of the third cohort. He strode out, holding his head high, before taking out his bow. On the mark, he quickly drew and fired his bow towards Perseus. Who, in response curled up behind his shield, his small frame being completely covered. He slowly advanced towards the centurion, who was becoming increasingly frustrated that he couldn't land a hit. Diego switched to his gladius and shield and charged towards Perseus, who uncurled and crouched in a ready position, their swords clashed as they both swung at each other, Perseus recovered quickly and sent an upwards strike towards Diego, who quickly drew backwards and re positioned himself to make space. They stood apart from each other Diego was exhausted at the speed his opponent fought at, whilst Perseus' stone faced expression never wavered under the pressure. Diego got up and charged, swinging his sword in a wide arc, Perseus quickly slammed into his hand with his shield, knocking it aside, before smashing the metal centre into Diego's kneecap, knocking him off balance. Perseus then swept his feet out before placing his sword along the centurions throat. He quickly yielded.
Reyna
Reyna watched on as the mysterious son of Pluto reduced three centurions into nothing in seconds. Reyna was amazed by the Armour he wore, it seemed to be a blend of standard legionary armour with hints of officers armour throughout, subtly hinting at his aspirations. But what amazed Reyna was the wreath he wore on his head, instead of a standard mural crown, it was made of bones, and occasionally spouted a small flame from different points, they flames were either a pale green or black. Reyna could overhear whispers of his skill and a few of how he was just lucky. lucky? she thought, as if. The way he carried himself in combat screamed of prior training, and alot of it. His swipes were quick and well targeted, whether it be to harm or create space, they were well executed. the use of his shield was quite unorthodox, using it as offensively he did his sword, shunting and smashing with it. Reyna cast her glance over to her centurion, Angela Rennie, as she geared up for her fight with the boy. Reyna had to give it to her centurion, she was a hell of a fighter. one of the best in camp no doubt. She was banking on it being a tough fight, but counted on her centurion to put the upstart in his place. She looked over to the fifth cohort's stand, and could see Jason frowning, clearly deep in thought.
She cranes her neck to the arena as the praetor announced Reyna' centurion, she walked out the gate, head held high and stopped a ways away from Perseus. She could see the intensity of his analysing gaze, it went up and down, looking for weak points on Reyna's centurion. She bit her lip out of nervousness, as they began to circle each other, neither breaking eye contact. He suddenly ducked and dashed towards her, and in response the centurion, instead of using her shield, swung her sword in a lethal horizontal arc, intending to force him back. To both Reyna and Angela's shock, he kept going into the arc, and dropped into a baseball slide, using one of his feet to kick her hand upwards, before he quickly got up and used his momentum to shoulder barge her, hitting her in the kidney and winding her. She tried to pull back to get her breath back, but Perseus never gave her the chance, forcing her on her toes with swipes and stabs of his gladius. When he went for an overhead strike, Angela used her shield to block it, however in doing so opened up her mid section, which Perseus used to his advantage by unleashing a devastating kick to her waist, forcing her to fold in on herself. While she was folded he swung one of her feet out, forcing her on to her back, sword at throat. She yielded quickly.
Reyna was stunned at his skills. He seemed to use shock and awe tactics, attacking fast and never letting up in his flurry of attacks. Reyna was thoroughly impressed with his skills. She looked up to the praetors box to see Emily with a concerned look on her face, Bobby looked to be utterly fuming at the display, while Lupa had an almost feral grin about her. Emily then called out the centurion of the first cohort, Cole Navarro. From what Reyna knew about him he was ferocious swordsman, but he didn't have a great strategic mind. He had been centurion the longest out of the current five and was the most experienced of the five centurions. He strode out the gate, wearing a matching stone faced expression to the son of Pluto. They stood across from each other, never flinching away until the mark was given. Cole instantly launched himself at Perseus, and was on the attack. Reyna recognised what he was doing, he was trying to be the one to apply pressure, rather than let his opponent. Reyna watched was Perseus primarily used his shield to bounce off attacks that were sent his way, he tried to slash at the centurion repeatedly but was blocked on all attempts. Perseus then drew back, giving space between them. They both regained their breath after a few seconds. Cole went to lunge but Perseus' smaller frame allowed him more speed. Cole, having watched his previous fight, expected him to drop into a slide like he did in his previous battle, however instead he jumped up and caught him by surprise, he unleashed some devastating swings which Cole was forced to block with sword and shield alike, before he used his shield to wedge itself inside his guard, separating his sword and shield. Cole attempted to draw back but was caught by the leg as Perseus whipped his foot round and pulled it out from under him, Leaving him to tumble onto his back. He quickly found a sword placed under his chin. He yielded, and took Perseus' offered hand to help him up. Reyna couldn't hear what the two said, but they grasped forearms and gave each other a few quick words. The stands of the fifth and fourth cohorts burst into cheers at seeing the centurion of the first go down, but quickly shut up when both combatants sent glares at them.
The praetor then spoke up, "Perseus has defeated all five centurions," she announced, "he will now be given a cohort." She turned to the boy, "do you have any letters of recommendation?" She inquired, he paused for a second, and Reyna could see Bobby smirk at how he appeared to not have any. Perseus caught on to Bobby's smirk and gave a smug grin before waving his hand though a shadow and retrieving four letters. He then gave them to Praetor Emily and relished in the shocked and angry look her counterpart had. Emily paused before she read out the letters, "Perseus comes with the recommendation of Lord Pluto, Ladies Proserpina and Lupa, and," she stuttered at the last one, clearly shocked. "Julies Caesar's own Centurion P. Sextius Baculus." The crowd was shocked into silence, many knew the sort of the centurion who saved the Caesar's life. Being recommended by Lupa and one of the big three was rare for a new legionary, and Reyna guesser he could easily make first cohort. "What cohort do you choose Perseus?" Emily asked. He had a perfect poker face and never wavered when he said, "fourth cohort." Everyone was stunned, and Bobby cried out, "the fourth? Why the fourth!" Perseus looked over to him, "I lost a bet with sextius and agreed at join the fourth as part of the deal." He explained, everyone was stunned at his reasoning, before the fourth let loose a loud cheer. "My cohort has spoken, we will take Perseus." Their centurion, Harlow Key announced. "Very well, you stand on Probatio Perseus." Emily said, "you will receive a tablet with your name and cohort on." She explained, Perseus then spoke up, "Just Percy please, People only tend to use Perseus when trying to kill me." He explained, Emily have a small laugh. "Very well Percy." She nodded, before dispersing all the legionaries back to their barracks.

Reyna
After the initiation, Reyna sought out Jason, intent on finding out his opinions of the boy. She eventually found him on his way back to the fifth's castra, and quickly gave him a friendly punch on the arm to get his attention. He jumped, clearly not being with it. "Hey Rey, what's up?" She scowled at the nickname but quickly shot back a question, "what do you think of the new boy, Percy?" She asked. He gave a sigh, "he's scary I'll give him that, he demolished the first three centurions." He huffed out. "That crown he was wearing, did you see that?" He asked her. "Yeah it was scary." She agreed. "No no, but like, did you feel the actual terror from it?" He pressed, Reyna shuffled nervously, even thinking about the bone wreath made raw unadulterated terror begin to manifest itself in the back of her mind. "Yeah, it was." She returned breathlessly. "What about that scar?" She asked, "looked like lightning." She asked. Jason scrunched his face up in thought, "yeah I think it was, what do you think he got it from?" He asked. She gave a bored shrug, "hell if I know, why don't you ask him, he's probably in the fourth's castra." She shot back, he thought about before nodding, sending her a grin, "Carr to join?" He asked, she nodded having nothing better to do, and the pair made their way over to the fourth cohorts barracks. They entered the area and were shocked at the site, in the middle of the training area sat the son of Pluto, on a black chair, seemingly a manifestation of shadows. Around him were 30 legionaries of the fourth, all crumpled messes being attended to by medics. They made their way over to one who hadn't been injured and was seemingly watching the events occur, Reyna identified her as Leila. "Umm, what happened?" Jason asked, bewildered by the sight before him. Leila pauses before replying, "you should've seen it!" She began, "he took on a Demi cohort by himself and ruined them!" She whisper shouted to them. The Percy obviously hurt, judging by the way he looked up at the trio, his face neutral as he looked over the two girls before scowling at the son of Jupiter. "Doesn't seem to like you Jace," Leila poked, knowing the stupid nickname annoyed him. Jason scowled back, "not my fault, not like I did anything to annoy him." He bit back defensively. They watched on as he sat in his chair, passing a gold ingot between his hands. "Wait where did he get that gold from?" Jason wondered aloud, Leila watched on before replying, "he just pulled it out the floor." She explained. They watched for a while longer before the call of the buccina alerted them to dinner. They both left the fourths castra wondering what the son of Pluto is actually like.

Jason
A couple weeks had passed since the arrival of the son of Pluto, and rumours were spreading like wildfire about how he took down an entire Demi cohort's worth of legionaries. Jason was training when his centurion, Enzo Anthony called him over. "Can I help you Enzo?" He asked, slightly annoyed his training had been interrupted, Enzo sighed before answering the son of Jupiter, "not me that wants ya kid, Harlow wants you to help with something." He explained, Jason was getting increasingly annoyed at the situation, "why cant she have her cohort do something about it?" he pressed, Enzo sighed again, groaning and throwing his head back, before settling his eyes on the Jason's. "look Jason, I get your annoyed about your training being interrupted, but can u just go over the fourth's casta please? If its any reassurance I think Reyna's been called for too." Jason lightened at the prospect of seeing Reyna, and he thus agreed. On the way over to the fourth's barracks he intercepted Reyna, also heading there. "hey Reyna, you been called for the thing at the fourth too?" He asked casually. "yeah, no clue what its about though." She sighed, "same." was all Jason said in response, they reached the front of the area and found the centurion of the Fourth impatiently tapping her foot. "jeez its about time you two arrived, I need your help with something." she explained, Jason cocked an eyebrow before responding, "yeah I gathered that, but for what?" Harlow sighed exasperatedly, "its Percy." she deadpanned. "He never leaves the Field of mars, and I dont think he as actually set foot in New Rome yet." she explained, "And i was thinking the best person to relate to him would be another kid of the big three." Jason nodded along, seeing her reasoning. "okay then, where is he?" Jason asked, all the while Reyna listened in Attentively. "Training Area, fighting skeletons." she explained, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. "Skeletons?" Reyna asked, bewildered. "oh yeah, Apparently they fight better than us." The centurion deadpanned. Jason frowned at that, "arrogant much?" he stated, Harlow looked at him for a second before replying, "no, actually. no one in the entire cohort lasted more than a minute against him, me included." she said, mumbling at the end. "Jesus." was all Reyna said. "Anyway," Harlow began, "I want you to try to assimilate him into New Rome, take him on a tour, show him Temple hill or something i don't know, as long as half my cohort isnt knocked out I'm fine." She said, before turning and going back inside her room.
"Well then." Jason said, as the son of Pluto sliced the skeleton clean in half. He looked over to the newcomers and scowled. "What do you want." He said to Jason, ignoring Reyna. Jason was affronted at the hostility he showed towards him. Reyna then spoke up, making sure Jason didn't do anything he'd live to regret, "We were asked to take you on a tour of New Rome, get you away from the field of Mars for awhile." She explained. "Fine." He said, clearly not happy. "As long as Zappy over here isn't coming." He drawled. Reyna tried to hide a smirk at the nickname for the son of Jupiter, who just scowled and stomped off. The daughter of Bellona watched as Percy threw his sword into a shadow, which seeming swallowed it whole before his pitch black armour melted of him and snaked into the shadows. "Let's go then." She said, the pair turned and started towards the border with New rome.
When they approached, Terminus popped into existence, his eyes locking on to Percy. "So," he began, "finally entering New Rome?" He asked, the tray for weapons in front of him, expectantly waiting for him. He plopped the ring in the tray before striding past, leaving the statue in his wake. Reyna quickly caught up to him. She showed him a few of her favourite spots, the garden of Bacchus, and up the mountain trail. On the way up she noticed him getting increasingly nervous, "what's up?" She asked in a concerned tone, he looked at her, and for the first time, Reyna saw a hint of vulnerability in his void black eyes, the golden flecks dimmed. "Uhh, well up here is close to Jupiter's domain, and he's kinda had it out for me since I was born." He explained meekly. "It's a mountain, how bad can it be?" She deadpanned. They continued up, eventually reaching the summit, being greeted with a beautiful view of the city. She gave him a smirk, "not so bad is I-" she was cut of by a flash of lightning as it nipped Percy's toes. He gave a 'really' look. "What's that?" Percy asked, pointing to a shrine on the highest peak. "Oh that's a shrine Jason made to his father." She explained. "Isn't the massive temple enough?" He asked rhetorically. She gave an elegant shrug as they descended down Reyna observed him easy up and returning back to his emotionless state. She found herself wondering if the scar he had on his face was from Jupiter, it would make sense as it looked to be from a horrible electrocution. They walked around for a bit longer before they arrived at Temple hill. They went past the temple of Neptune, which he snorted at, along with the Temple of a few other Minor gods.
"And this is the Temple to my mother Bellona." Reyna proudly. He looked around, taking it in. "impressive, but i would expect nothing less for a war Deity." he replied neutrally. They moved on past the temples to Juno, Mars, Diana, Apollo, Ceres, and eventually found themselves at the temple of Jupiter. "wheres my fathers temple?" he asked stoically, they hadnt seen it on the tour of the hill. Reyna looked around nervously, "Well, its at the back, near the mountain, its not great." she warned. They weaved around the foundations of the large temples unitl they came to one of the border mountains, in front of it stood a small building, clearly a shrine, but not a temple. "wow, didn't know my father was one for modesty." he drawled, sarcasm was almost visibly dripping from his words. Reyna stayed silent but shuffled nervously, she wasnt easily unsettled but the boy had an unnerving and terror-inducing aura about him, similar how to Jason would occasionally smell of ozone when he was nervous or angry. She watched as he raised his hand and gave it a swipe, bending the earth on the cliff-face and making a small cave. She gave a questioning glance, he looked at her for a second before answering her unspoken question. "If it were a real Temple to my father it would have catacombs below, this doesn't." She nodded along despite not really understanding. He turned around and began to walk back to the field of Mars, as dinner was approaching, leaving the cave seemingly untouched, Reyna was left to follow in his wake.
I really like this concept! im inspired by CombatTombat's own Vas Bellicoseum and Fili Decorum. They're my favourite works on this site and I highly recommend them. Im going to try to differentiate from his plot, and ive already begun to do so by having Percy as a son of Pluto. having him join the fourth is the same as CombatTombat's story, however this is done for different purposes. My aim for later in the book is to have a deep rivalry between Percy and Jason, playing of a son of Pluto's fatal flaw of holding Grudges. while the grudge is again Jupiter, in percy's eyes it extends to Jason as he is his son. Leave a review to let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is obviously better than just flames. iv some of you have read my other Fics, you'll know that i have commitment issues to a story, however im planning this one out and will be devoting to the story. Many Thanks reader.
