Hey guys this is my first chapter of my first story on here. I hope you'll like this story and keep reading and leave a comment. I accept criticism, but no hate please. If you don't like it just leave and stop reading. Simple. Well hope you enjoy.
Eyes as clear as water and piercing as ice stared into her own. Shock white hair sat atop a strong and angular face. His gaze held her in place and she could not look away. Her heart stirred with a feeling she could not place. His lean body towered over her own as he drew closer. His gaze softened as he drank her in and softly placed a hand on her cheek. His eyes fluttered shut as he moved in closer to her, his lips a hair away from her own...
Genevieve woke up in a sweat. Her heart was racing and she looked to see her blankets on the ground. She must have kicked them off during the night. Her nightgown was soaked in sweat and her curls were stuck to her face.
The past week she had the same dream. A boy with pale green eyes had haunted her dreams. She had no idea who this boy was, but she couldn't help the feeling that it meant something. Especially since they started a week from today . The day the schoolmaster would come.
She climbed out of bed and got ready for the day. She washed her face, put on her simple, plain, modest green dress and then proceeded to make breakfast for her old, dear father before heading out to run an errand to the bakery.
As she strolled through the village she watched as the villagers locked and boarded up their windows and doors in preparation for the coming of the school master. Little girls were shaving their heads and getting as dirty as they could. Although the villagers weren't that worried they weren't going to take any chances.
Genevieve was not only a kind and gentle girl who didn't hesitate to lend a helping hand, but was also very beautiful for one so young. Her beautiful chocolate curls were always piled atop her head leaving her bare face out for everyone to see. Though she dressed plain and modest it made her all the more beautiful. The green complemented her tan skin and her big, dark eyes were kind and welcoming. Her appearance had truly matched her personality. Attractive, innocent and kind. Truly one as pure and kind hearted as her would be chosen for the School of Good, but they we'rent taking any chances. They didn't have a clue for who would be picked for Evil.
Genevieve passed by the old woman who went on and on about her adventures at the school. Old Sophie they all called her. She wasn't as old as they all said, but the stress and hardships she faced when she came back had taken its toll. No one would help her for she was a villain in her story. Genevieve, though, took pity on the woman. Every night Old Sophie was welcomed into the father and daughter's home for a meal. After she would tell the young girl stories of her time at the school and the loss of her best friend from her POV giving her the insight. Every story is not as black and white as the children of Gavaldon believed.
Genevieve loved hearing about both schools and Old Sophie's life there. She longed to go there and learn to be a princess. She would then marry a prince and her father could live a new and healthy life. She wanted to go for him. That's why she wasn't going to shave her head and cover herself in mud like the others.
As she strolled through the market deciding what veggies she would include in tonight's dinner her insecurities took over her mind. What if she wasn't good enough for the School for Good? She had tried to be kind and charitable to everyone. It wasn't in the way Sophie had befriended the towns outcast for her own gain. Genevieve had felt sorry for her and grew fond of Sophie's company. She lost her mother when she was very young and watched with sad and longing eyes as the mothers and daughters of Gavaldon were out. Shopping for a dress, helping with the shopping or simply taking a walk. What she wouldn't give to at least have known the presence of her mother. Her personality, a smile to etch into her brain to remind her that she once had one.
Though Sophie wouldn't have made the ideal mother she has become a womanly figure she could go to for advice. Lord knows her father was not good with women and she often wondered what had made them fall in love. She has heard the story, but she couldn't stand to see the sadness in her father's eyes as he recalled the memories of his lost love and Genevieve decided not to ask again.
Besides, Sophie was not the same girl she was when she had gone to the school. Her story forced her to grow up and learn some hard lessons in life.
She cast aside the doubts in her mind. She finished and headed back home to make their final dinner together. She didn't want to jinx it, but she had a gut feeling that it was the last time she would see her father and Sophie for a long time.
She cooked up her father's favorite! Chicken with a delicious cream sauce. Cheesy bacon potatoes and roasted veggies. She only allowed him a small amount of the potatoes and more veggies though. In her attempts to please and comfort her father she had not helped in his health. He was always a strong man but his love of his daughters cooking had led to a few extra pounds.
"I will miss your cooking when you leave Vivvie!" Her father felt the tears surface but refused to let them fall. He wanted to enjoy his last moments with her in happiness.
"I will surely miss cooking for you," she said softly. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it comfortingly. She looked back at him etching his face into her brain. She has never left her father for long periods of time and she was nervous about leaving him alone.
"He's got me!" Sophie cried, shoveling in a mouthful of the potatoes. She had accepted her life as a spinster so carbs became her best friend. "With all the recipes you've showed me I'll be able to keep ya father healthy eating!" She smiled at him and he cringed.
Genevieve laughed and hoped her father would not kick her out. She was sure he would need her companionship when she would leave and believed he liked her more that he let on. Besides, it would give Sophie something to do. They laughed and enjoyed dinner together for as long as they could until the moon shines brightly into the house. Sophie left placing a kiss on Genevieve's cheek.
"Remember darling, find a prince and keep him close. Make sure he loves you for you! And if you can see what happened to Agatha... I know you can't send letters and if you decide to marry a prince please come see us."
She slipped into her night gown and lied in bed. Her brown eyes scanned around her room as she wanted to remember her home. She had already said goodbye to her father who cried and hugged her. He understood why she wanted to do it and it warmed his heart. He was proud of his daughter who had grown into a beautiful, well mannered, young woman. She reminded him of his late wife. He would see her in his daughter. Now she would have a chance to become a princess. He knew she could do it and wasn't worried about her. He would miss her dearly.
As Genevieve recounted the events that had transpired a shadow flowed past her window. She got up and looked around her room as a chill ran down her spine. She sensed a presence behind her and slowly turned around. Her mouth opened in shock as she saw a handsome man. This must be the good twin Old Sophie told me about, she thought.
He held out his arms for Genevieve, beckoning her to him. She went into his arms and he carried her off into the night to the school. Genevieve looked back and saw the village, candles lighting up the houses in the dark night. She had left her father and Old Sophie into a whole new world that would hold many surprises for her.
