A story about a little less "noble and selfless" Subaru. The story starts in arc 6 (so minor spoilers) but will have Subaru sent back in time after receiving many buffs and If memories through contracts with Satella and Volcanica. This is no crackfic even if it sounds like one and I try my best to stay lore-friendly.

9. Chapter 9 Pt 1

Authors notes: English is not my primary language so expect typos or odd ways of saying words you know the drill

Chapter 9: Consequences of your actions Part 1

As the party now came to pass and all royal candidates were returning to their homes every single candidate had something to consider about their recent meeting with the Sage, the one thinking about it the most was Anastasia.

Anastasia was sitting in her carriage looking out of the window deep in thought because her entire world was turned upside down due to revelation's from sage

"You seem lost my lady" Julius sitting opposite to Anastasia's inside carriage could not help but be slightly worried as her lady is completely out of it

Anastasia took a deep breath and exhaled; she then looked at Julius and with tired eyes and told him "It's difficult not to be considering the things I learned from sage. I feel like everything I thought I knew was but a lie" Anastasia remarked with a slight frown.

Julius raising his eyebrow looked at the purple-haired lady in confusion. "And why is that the case?" Julius question her

Anastasia looked at Julius for a moment and with a single sigh she stated "Did you know about the divine sword Reid, the same one which the sword saint carries with him was made by the witch?" she looked at Julius's dumbfounded expression who was blinking his eyes in disbelief assuming he heard wrong

"I'm sorry my lady but I believe I misheard you" Julius keeping his knight's behavior stated

"No you haven't, the divine sword was made by the witch" Anastasia started seeing Julius beginning to slightly panic

"My lady you should not speak of that in public it can be problematic" Julius instantly tried to stop his lady from talking about the witch in fear someone might associate her with one.

"The Sage did state he is keeping an eye out to ensure there's no connection between me and a witch so stop panicking." Anastasia huffed at Julius' panicked voice yet his panic was calming for her as it shows she is not losing her mind.

"But my lady how could THEE witch of envy make that sword and same swo-" Julius got interrupted by Anastasia

"It's a witch of Greed, not Envy. There seem to be multiple different witches. I believe there's a lot of things we don't know about the events from 400 years ago" Anastasia started with a sigh.

This however perked Julius for he stopped his panic attack and switched to the eye's of a scholar as he was staring towards his lady

"A lot of things are lost to history. This is indeed true and it was a long-standing mystery on who created the divine sword. Some believe it was a dragon , others believe it's a sage but what made you believe this?" Julius asked with peaked curiosity.

"The current acting sage told me. The same man who we have NO information about what so ever" Anastasia reluctantly stated as she looked out off the window with a distant gaze

"Surely you jest my lady I find it hard to believe we learned nothing about him" Julius looker worried not liking how his lady is talking about sage because the title is that of a legend even if the current sage is a bit odd and yet he did indeed proven so far to be capable and there's no denying the fact he'd come to castle ridings on divine dragon himself

"after royal selection officially started I used every contact I have from merchant's network and at best what I got is about two months before selection he was spotted inside capitol talking to sword saint of all people But before that not even a whisper there's Nothing about him before that He is a man that just appeared out of thin air just like that" Anastasia with slightly annoyed expression snapped her fingers demonstrating how Subaru appeared

"That can't be true my lady, perhaps he was studying inside the tower?" Julius stated

Anastasia consider that for a moment but then shook her head "No he did state that he broke into the tower with a few children by his side and he then hid the tower away because its security was lacking" Anastasia remained Julius that detail something he forgot due to the sudden appearance of the divine dragon and new sage

Anastasia then scratched her head "at best we can do right now is watch him closely and see what he do this way we might potentially predict what he will do next because if we can't I fear royal selection might be over" Anastasia relaxed on her seat with a deep sight

This comment from his lady was troubling for the spirit knight "My lady you are not planning to throw in the towel now at the very beginning of selection?" Julius worried questioned her

Who in turn looked at him with strong unwavering will" of course I haven't given up" she declared with an unwavering will

But then she sighed "you seen how easily he averted disaster after disaster be it a political mess or calamity class monsters he just walking over them without even bothering to notice them acting as if this were just another day I fear the nation as a whole will try to make him into a king and if he needs to marry royal candidate for it so be it" Anastasia's reluctantly stated for something like him is just troubling

"I must admit sages achievements so far are truly astonishing but I highly doubt Nobility would like him on the throne" Julius started with a nervous gaze

This made Anastasia look at him for a few moments "I don't think he needs nobility to be crowned the king if it comes to it he can destroy the entire nations political structure and rebuild it from the ground up at this point I would not be surprised if he could do something like that" Anastasia sighed as she shook her head

Julius stared at his lady in disbelief "Surely something like that should not be possible even for sage" Julius stated

"If it's possible or impossible for him I don't know but the only saving grace is this he doesn't care about throne or nation as a hole at least that's the impression I am getting from him" Anastasia looked towards Julius with slight tightness in her eyes

Julius sat there for a moment remembering every interaction he had with sage even if those interactions were but a small brief moment the man never seem to care for power he just commands it for convenience sake alone or at least that was his honest impression

Anastasia taking a deep breath of air and calmed down she then got her mind back in order and looked towards Julius

"When we get back to a workshop I want you to keep your eyes and ears open for anything related to sage regardless of how small it might be I want to know as much about him as possible" Anastasia declared with a raised fist

Julius instantly responded with "Yes my lady" as he bowed but then he also commented

"It seems my lady is regaining her spirit" he stated

"Be it sage, dragon, or sword saint They will prove to be a good challenge for once" Anastasia declared with renewed vigor and absolute determination as she was returned to her company's headquarters

Felt on another hand was having the best day of her life because for once she managed to get away from that annoying Reinhard as he seem to be deeply lost in his thoughts

Felt was running from rooftop to a rooftop with glee and cheer in her eye's and she did so for no more than 1 hour but then she tripped on a loose roof tile and fly off the roof of the building she was running on but before she could hit the ground she got captured by her leg and was left suspended in the air

Felt looked at the one who keep her suspended in the air with narrowed eyes

"what are you doing here" she shouted pointing her finger towards her savior

"It's dangerous to be running around on top of rooftops like that my lady" responded the knight with humility

Felt took a deep sight "haven't I gotten away from you" she grumbled at him

"But my lady it's my duty to ensure you are safe" Reinhard responded as he keep holding felt suspended in the air upside down by her leg

"Put ME down" felt scream at him not liking how she is being treated

"Right away my lady" Reinhard responded in the knightly mannerism ad he gently placed felt back on the ground however his response just pissed felt off even more and she immediately tried to kick him into his face only to have her feet to be blocked by his hand as he responded

"My lady you should behave more like a lady" Reinhard responded as he keep holding her feet in his hand and this pissed felt even more for she was fuming and screaming at him

This continued for another 10 minutes till felt got tired of throwing tantrums and just sat down with ha sight

"Haven't you talked with your grandparents?" felt looked at Reinhard who then looked away not sure what expression he should show towards his lady

"My grandfather requested for my assistance in capturing dangerous enemy who he believes is somewhere around water gate city pristella and it's currently making its way towards capital" Reinhard was split between two things and he was completely unable to decide on how to proceed because his duty to his lady should be above all else and yet this foe must not be left unattended

"Who is it that he asked for you specifically?" felt looking at him with narrowed eyes and Reinhard responded with a bit of reluctance in his voice

"Witch cult sin archbishop of wrath Sirius Romeconty" Reinhard responded as he saw felt's eyes widen in horror

"then what the hell are you still doing here go and get it done" felt shouted at him

"I can't leave my ladyship to be left unattended" Reinhard responded and this made felt's gears grin in frustration

"ok get a carriage and let's get a move on but before we leave tell an old man from that we are gone for a few days" felt stood up and stormed towards the direction of the carriage

Yet Reinhard was doing everything he can to talk her out of this telling her how dangerous it will be but she didn't listen to him at all and just dragged him along with herself

Reinhard and Felt soon got into the carriage and found their way to old man Rom who was inside Astrea's mansion and felt told him what she planning to do yet old man immediately forbidden her from doing this

"old man, why do you?" Felt shouted in horror as old man rom just ordered felt to be tied to a chair and Reinhard compiled

Even if felt was feeling betrayed by old man rom she instinctively knew why he do what he do and it was not first time

"Sorry felt But I will not allow you to run off head first towards sin archbishop if you want to fight him you first need to speak with sage about it otherwise it's just suicide" Rom declared looking at felt with his folded arms

"But old man I have him with me there" felt shouted as she tried to point at Reinhard

"Richard is indeed strong but sage have experience dealing with sin archbishops and Rainhard don't So you must Speak with sage first before you do anything even remotely related to sin, archbishops, you hear me" Old man rom shouted back to felt and stomped his feet on the ground this made felt bit upset yet she could understand why old man rom was sending her straight to talk to him again

Felt then thought of the boy and could not help but actually like the idea to see him first before she run off after the sin archbishop he did had a lot of fun games to show off back in the party

"Fine" felt stated looking sideways

Old man rom took a deep sight and responded "ohhh you going to be the death of me" old man rom started feeling old

Felt looked back to him and scoffed saying that old man rom will outlive her even

Rom in return responded with a huff of his own calling Felt a brat and the two ended up in a slight verbal fight just as Reinhard was doing his best to calm them two down asking them to calm down yet neither felt nor old man rom where paying any attention to him for this was but another day in Astrea mansion

Yet the Subaru and his gang were making their way back to Roswell's mansion after a small party with other royal candidates Subaru then took a deep sight

"Why do I feel something horrible will happen soon" Subaru stated making everyone around him worried

"Um Subaru who do you mean by that" Emilia responded almost instantly with a worry in her voice

Subaru took a deep sight "it's almost comical but I can never have normal simple get together with people every single time whenever I try to relax some random moron will always come out of the woodwork to show off how pathetic they are by attempting to look all powerful and such" Subaru sighed remembering last time he had a party with all 5 royal candidates and the mess it developed down to

Beatrice was looking at him with an understanding gaze for she too remember that mess "I understand why you are worried but remember this is not the past this is present in fact" loli spirit stated Subaru looking at her with a tired expression smiled gently and patted her head

And just like that Rem shouted "we have company" from the front of the carriage

Subaru poked his head out the window and looked ahead he then rolled his eyes

"Yep typical as much as I hate to admit it but this is getting old" Subaru sighed as he then heard a loud shout screaming at them to surrender all their valuables

Emilia looked at Subaru with concern who in turn just shrugged "Just a random bunch of morons who try to be bandit's" Subaru huffed at how troublesome everything is getting

He then walked out of the carriage to greet all the bandits who now where surrounding the carriage

"Let me guess you pricks try to change professions into bandits from slaves because being slaver is a really bad idea right now?" Subaru with a tilted head asked one who appeared to be a leader

But before bandits could respond other residents of the carriage where a little restless

Emilia where about to come out but Subaru gestured her to stay put Rem wanted to jump out too and start to swing her morning mace yet Subaru told her to stay

Bandits however where not having this "Who the fuck are you to act so-" one of bandit walking up to Subaru attempted to grab him by his hair yet his own arm got torn off him before it could even touch him and bandit fallen backwards screaming in pain looking at the his now non existent arm

Subaru calmly looked at the bandit with a pity in his eyes "My apologies but please try to be a little less loud. You are annoying or should I make it so you could make no more noises ever again ?" Subaru with a pity in his eyes looked at bandit who was screaming out his lungs due to his lost arm

"How the fuck did you do that WHAT the fuck have you done?" a man who appeared to be leader screaming with a bit of a panicked voice towards Subaru who casually looked back at him

"Fuck you that's how NOW back to main topic are you ex slavers trying your luck at being a bandits?" Subaru raised his eyebrows

"Why the fuck should I say anyth-" man got interrupted as he got suspended in the air

"Oh yes yes sorry I forgot I where supposed to beat you up first then question you silly me" Subaru pretending to look as if he made a mistake and was hitting his head with his fist poking out his tongue

Subaru then pointed towards small little girl who where sitting on top of carriage and where looking at them with disgusted expression towards the bandits

"Allow me to introduce you to my adorable little spirit" Subaru noted as all bandits looked towards Beatrice and begin to shit themselves as Beatrice summoned massive amounts of minya crystals and send some off them towards few random bandits who immediately turned into crystal statues and as they fallen to the ground they were broken into countless small pieces

Bandits seeing some of them die just like that imminently attempted to run away however the first ones who begin to run away where transformed into crystal statues

"Before anyone off you even think you can run away from here think again because you shall meet the same fate as they did" Subaru shouted as every bandit instantly frozen in Their tracks

"Now do I really have to repeat my question again?" Subaru looking back at one who seemed like leader who was still suspended in the air by his leg

The bandit leader was panicking as he screamed "Who the fuck are you?" towards Subaru who in turn responded

"And why the fuck should I tell you that it's not like that matters you where attacking every possible carriage that was passing by not like you cared who they where but now you care to ask me this?" Subaru mockingly tilted his head in amusement

Subaru then using his divine providence slammed bandit leader to the ground and lifted him back into the air

"You failed to answer my question" Subaru stated

"No we never did anything of the sort we are just refugees from volcanica on the move towards kararagi the place there seems more stable" bandit leader stated as Subaru begin to piece together a plan what to do with him

"Ok I believe in your obvious lie and I let you go" Subaru walked up towards the man and slammed mans back as he send him tumbling down next to others he was wearing odd looking gloves however pure black gloves with white star pattern he then walked back to carriage and then told rem to keep moving

And as carriage soon disappeared from the bandits sight they all collapsed to the ground in relief

"Boss I think we should try somewhere else and we already have few merchandises to trade" one of bandits told this to his leader but before he could respond he was interrupted by scream from other off his bandits the one who lost his arm

"Shit shit shit Right let's get back to cave we have to deal with Jeffrey" Bandit leader ordered as he soon picked up severed arm off the ground and told other's to get back to their hideout

As they got to their hideout man with severed arm had pass out from blood loss "I don't think he will make it" one of the bandits told this to his boss as he pointed toward man without his arm passed on the ground

"Who the fuck was that? I never seen anything like that and Jeffrey was one of stronger ones" bandit leader gritting his teeth

"boss I think we should get a move on this entire domain is just weird" one off the bandits stated

"Tom will you give the fucking rest already there's no identical little girls in every single FUCKINNG town we pass by" Bandit leader shouted at one of his own

"I'm telling you boss I seen same little girl in other towns I swear on my mother's grave" Tom declared

"That little girl just arrived into the town like everyone else if you Fucking seen her in another town she probably was travelling in same direction GIVE the fucking rest" Bandit leader screamed at him

"No no no I swear that little girl was different because first one was talking somewhat normally but other's was just Empty staring at me saying nothing" tom not letting it go

Bandit leader picked up a stick and smashed it on Tom's head sending him flying backwards "If I hear even one more word about some random little girls I will cut your head off myself!" shouted bandit leader just as sounds of crying begin to creep in from the corner of the cage

Bandit leader then tossed his stick in that direction and screamed "YOU FUCKING CRY AGAIN I WILL KILL YOU" just as the stick hit the a man that was laying on the ground with multiple bandages on his head and was being locked inside the cage with few other people

It was but a family of 4 Older male and female, with younger boy and the girl the man was completely out cold on the ground bleeding from his head as the woman was desperately trying to keep the bleeding to the minimum as the wounds from beating reopened again

And in the corner of the cage there's was young boy no older than 8 who was desperately trying to comfort his lifeless looking elder sisters who was no older than 10 and she was bleeding from in between her legs as well as her clothes were ripped to pieces and all around her body there was multiple hit marks the girl was just laying on the ground without any emotions just staring at the wall

Yet the young boy could not hold back his tears seeing his lifeless looking sister just laying on the ground there and the only thing that indicated that she is still alive is only her shallow breathing

Bandit leader just spat in that general direction to where his "merchandise" where

"We got some good stuff from looting but I don't think we should keep them around" yet another member from bandit group told this towards his boss

"And why is that So?" bandit leader looked back at one of his men

"There's this crazy woman running around hell bent on killing everyone that deals in slavery and she is fucking good at it blood hand got done in by her" one of bandits stated

Bandit leader wanted to shout at him at first but he insisted just stared at him " The fuck When?" he screamed

"About few days ago or a week ago one of local girls told me that back at the inn that cute fox girl" bandit still vividly remembering his encounter with the fox girl in question for he could not ever forget someone like her and her cheerful attitude

"Do you believe the words of your local pretty face? it's only a fucking rum-" bandit leader was still in the middle of his speech just as sudden intense pain began to swell from inside of him

Pain was so severe it made him collapse on the ground and he began to cough profusely

"boss?" other bandits looked at their boss man who was now ripping off his clothes and scratching at his skin to a point it started bleeding

Then the bandit leaders eyes and his belly begin to bulge out as blood from his ears, nose and eyes begin to pour out

"BOSS?" others shouted as they witnessed their boss belly to expand unnaturally and he now looked like pregnant woman and yet the blood from his Eyes and his nose stopped as it was something else that began to crawl out off him it was a black worm like thing that just dig its way out of the bandits leader's eye and rolled up into a ball

All other bandits seeing this horrific sight where cautiously stepping back away from the man

But then small black ball jumped up into the air towards one off them and buried itself inside him

"GET IT OUT GET IT OUT" scream the man who now had the worm like thing infest him however his screaming where short lived for he too collapsed onto the ground in but a second after worm got inside him and he to started to show same symptoms as bandit leader before them did

Other bandits now shaking their heads turned around and attempted to run as far away from this thing as they could

But bandit leaders belly burst open and from inside of his belly shoot out into the air a massive black ball looking thing that was pulsating like hart

This ball/hart thing then exploded into thousands of small black worm looking things and send them worms all around entire cave no where was safe from them without even a second after explosion of first heart entire bandits headquarters where infected by black worm thing and they all where on the ground screaming in agony as others bellies being to bulge out in same way as their leader's once did as well as immense bleeding

The woman inside the cage seeing the carnage all around her and also seen what happens if you come in contact with them black worm looking things she just accepted her fate because just like everyone else inside this cave she and her entire family too where exposed to the black worm looking things

Her entire family was practically bathed in them after 3 third and 4 forth ball/hart explosion

So all she did was pull in her husband and her children closer to her and close her eyes waiting for the inevitable

"Mammy" boy with the tears in his eyes looked towards his mother

"Who too was crying Don't worry my child mammy is here it will all be over soon" woman now practically crying as she was looking at her children especially her older daughter as she was hoping perhaps in her next life she will not suffer this much

"Indeed it shall be over soon" come voice from outside the cage as unmistakable sound of clanging key reached her ears

She looked towards where the voice come from and was greeted by a simple boy with mean eye's

"I believe these are keys to set you free, yes?" the boy asked pointing towards a large number of keys in his hand

"No you must run or you die too. To…. To…" woman looking at the boy as all black worm like things were gathering around him and climbing on top of him as they all just wanted to touch as much of the boy as they could so they where traveling in circles around the boys body until it reached the boy's gloves and merged into them

And just like that every single black worm like things just merged with the boys gloves and disappeared from sight

Yet the boy was simply standing there unbothered by entire ordeal and was just clicking the keys in his hands

"Do you know what key opens your gate?" Subaru asked the woman

Who in turn was just staring at him with open eyes completely terrified out of her mind as she looked towards corpses of bandits or what was once bandits for they all looked like dried out meat with wide open belly's and not a drop of blood anywhere in sight as if all fluids in their bodies where drained out off them and what remained was but a husk of what was formerly a human body

Woman then looked at the boy who was standing before her trying to say something but she was in shock and was not able to say anything

Subaru seeing that a woman is going through severe shock just sighted and begin trying to open her cage testing keys one by one until he found the key needed to open this cage and so he did

He then looked around entire cave looking for more trapped people yet he found nothing only some valuables he then walked around cave for a bit inspecting everything he could see eventually he seen a simple hole in the ground with hew dead bodies in there mostly men as he nodded his head

"All the ones they capture and where deemed not good to sell end up here so they don't alert local law enforcement and simple travelers who are now running around the place due to great panic gives them ample opportunities to make some quick cash heh" Subaru sighted as he more less figured out how this entire thing worked by simply looking at few things Beatrice and rem too soon appeared behind him also observing the same thing he was observing and reaching same conclusion

"Subaru why have you stopped me back then?" Rem asked as she looked towards Subaru

"If we killed them all there and then this family here would had served to death because we had not idea they were in this situation so in essence we would had killed them as well this is why you tag one and let him return to its base of operations so you know where to hit them and potentially save all those they managed to capture as well as recover any lost possessions that they stolen simply killing them on spot is never good idea for it just stops them there and then" Subaru turned towards rem as he explained and he pointed toward family of 4 who where just in pure shock

Rem looking at the family could not help herself but feel like absolute shit for her method would had killed them 4 people before her

Rem then looked back towards Subaru and given her courtesy bow "as expected of Subaru" she stated in pride

"This is not my tactics thought" Subaru shrugged

Rem looked at him with tilted head

"Where I come from there's a group of people that fight crime from certain country known as Russia a special force unit of this country is really found of this tactics although I'm using this same tactics in a bit different way that's all" Subaru shrugged as he continued examining entire cave

(Author notes: it's ongoing rumor of sorts that Russian special forces unit have a habit of stabbing one of so called criminals and implanting tracking device inside them then allowing them to escape by pretending to get their ass handed to them and as criminal thinks he managed to fight his way out from them he naturally run back to some safe location usually criminals safe house or base of operations to lick its wounds as per normal animalistic instincts that we humans as being driven by and that's when they strike and take out entire safe house and all others who just so happen to be there or so the rumor go)

Rem was looking at the boy in wonder and she was actually slightly terrified to think of what is the place Subaru actually comes from if tactics like this are the norm?

"If your hometown has things like this as a norm , I believe there's no crime?" Rem tilted her head and Beatrice sighted

"This is not norm but just another example of things they do there but My contractor's hometown is indeed peaceful and by comparison we are nothing more but savages In fact" Beatrice had to reluctantly agree that by comparing two words Subaru's world is way superior to her own in every conceivable way not only that her own world is nothing but a leash that keeps abduction people from there just so they could get some new knowledge

"Beatrice-sama what it's like there" Rem asked with a wander

"You cannot even begin to imagine what it's like there for even after seeing it myself for so many times I still are taken back by some of things they do there in fact" Beatrice just shaken her head at things she seen so far from his world and it just makes her feel tiny in comparison

"I would love to visit it one day" Rem stated

Yet Subaru instantly responded "if you don't mind dying due to mana deficiency it's not bad place to visit" Subaru laughed

Rem looked at him in confusion

"In my hometown there's no mana, no divine protections or authorities, simply put there's no Od lagna and right now if you are in a situation where you can't absorb mana what will happen?" Subaru smirked as he tilted his head looking at rem

"Will I suffer similar symptoms to my sister?" rem lowered her head as she responded

Yet Subaru corrected her "no your symptom will be way worse then your sister's for your sister's is still able to absorb mana but at much much lower quantity then before her horn got cut and here we are talking about absolute 0 mana and the more your body depends on mana to make itself stronger the worst effect will be on you" Subaru shrugged

He then looked at rem with saddened eyes "I believe you will have one of 2 outcomes if you stepped a foot in my hometown one is that you will simply die due to mana definitely or two you will be so weak that you be unable to support yourself and end up being invalid the only reason is that your muscles are dependent on mana and mine are not reason why I am so weak in comparison to everyone else here" Subaru sighted

At this notion however rem looked at Subaru with widened eyes for she can't imagine Subaru being weak at all not after he literally walked all over everyone in his way Be it her sister, Garfield assassins, sin archbishops, Roswell or even the witch of envy herself they all kneel before him

"But but" rem was struggling with herself

This time Beatrice responded "Subaru body is indeed weaker than most and yet his meager strength and in the way he uses it produce results that even most powerful people in the world failing to compare in fact" Beatrice with a pride puffed out her chest

Rem was struggling with herself for yes she can't sense any strength from Subaru whatever and yet she can feel a strength of his will moment he sets his mind on something

And whenever that might be it will happen regardless how impossible it might seem or at least that's The feeling she is getting from him

"Subaru is just amazing" Rem responded sounding more like cheer girl then actual maid

Subaru looked at rem for a bit and he then shaken his head as some memories entered his mind yet he will not let it hold him back

"Now then I believe investigation here is over rem can you escort that family outside and provide any medical attention they might need Beatrice can you help her as well I gather this mess and drop it in carriage" Subaru pointing towards pile of stuff that were left at the corner of cave a loot from victim's that bandits robbed before

"But Subaru, if I'm stronger then shouldn't I move this?" rem tilted her head now fully accepting really that he is indeed weak

"Right now that family is probably afraid of me so this is only thing I can do right now" Subaru sighted as he was fully aware on how terrifying it might look in having countless black worm like things all slithering around on top of his body as they all returned back to his gloves

So she just sat there unsure on what to do for she was afraid of that man and yet without him she would be made into a play toy for bandits until she was no longer able to then she would been cast aside left to die in a hole somewhere her own daughter would been the same her son would been sold to slavery and her husband simply killed by them and the one who saved her from this fate is a man that seemed as if he comes out from your worst nightmares

"who was he?" the woman asked this from blue maid

And Rem responded "he is a knight to royal candidate Emilia and current acting sage Natsuki Subaru" Rem responded with a pride in her voice

And with this revelation woman mind just frozen stiff unable to believe what she just heard THE legend himself was one who saved her and her family

For she heard stories on the road about him Saying wildest delusions unbelievable lies a man that took out two archbishop's and one responsible for killing white whale a man about who new songs are being written day by day and being sung by bards in the taverns the real legitimate living legend himself this hero of a man is a same man that seems as if he walked out of her worst nightmares commanding evil powers her mind just couldn't take this

"Impossible you telling me that … thing is THE Natsuki Subaru?" woman with disbelief in her voice stated towards rem

Rem however looked back towards the woman in cold eyes and bluntly stated "That thing is one who saved your life or should we just leave you to die next time?" Angered maid stated in ice cold voice

Woman was about to apologize to her yet loli spirit interrupted her "How pathetic can you be? My kind contractor saved your life and your family's life and the first thing you call him is a thing?"

Loli spirit declared as pressure from her send shivers down the woman's spine

Woman was unsure on what to say however woman's son just innocently asked

"Um can I meet him I want to say thanks" woman looked towards her son in disbelief in her eyes yet her son being directed by loli spirit run off towards entrance of the cave

Few minutes later her own son was dragging that same boy by his hand towards the cage

"There my sister, can you help her?" The small boy asked pointing towards lifeless looking girl who was only following her mother's lead not saying a word

Subaru walked closer towards girl and he took one look into her eyes he then looked at the woman who was still afraid of him

"I take she experienced something really bad that made her like this?" he asked and the woman slowly nodded her head still cautiously holding herself back

Subaru then looked towards the boy as he gently patted his head "there's a way i can help her but I can't fix her to be like she was before this is trauma is something she will need to overcome by herself and if you want to help her be there for her and talk about this trauma later that helps to heal the wounds in her hart" Subaru stated as he sighted

Boy not fully understanding what he was told and yet he understood important part make her sister talk about bad thing that happened to her this he can do but his sister is unable to speak now

"But my sister can't speak right now" small boy innocently responded

"She will in few days time that's when you need to be there for her for now I will just make her pain go away" Subaru responded as he pulled out his guitar and began singing

Subaru then looked at Beatrice "how long till you can move him?" he asked

"He should be fine to be moved in few minutes that girl should rest in fact" Beatrice pointed her finger towards sleeping girl

Subaru nodding his head to this stated "ok I get her to carriage after you finish healing them bring them over as well and you boy coming with me make sure you stay next to your sister understand" Subaru looked at boy who nodded his head

He then picked up sleeping girl and with small boy walked out off the cave the mother of children was watching him in bafflement but before she could even say a word about her children going with him her hand was squeezed by blue maid

And as he just left rem declared "I shall not permit any consenting tone directed towards him at all do you understand?" Rem now slightly adopting Subaru way of doing things started looking at woman with the cold eyes

Woman looking back towards rem nodded her head and with that blue once cold gaze morphed into bright smile that could bring light even in darkest caves

"Good thank you for understanding now please come with me your husband will follow soon" Rem responded sounding more like maid now

Woman following rem outside of the cave and seeing carriage parked next to caves entrance end as she looked towards carriage she seen a woman with a silver hair sitting there carefully pulling up blanket on her daughter

Mother of children was observing this silver haired woman and immediately recognized her description silver hair half-elf amethyst eyes the description of the witch herself

And yet silver haired woman's appearance even if she was witch herself mother of children had nothing left in her to care about that right now only thing that mattered was getting her family safely to nearby town

And so mother of children lowered her head and given her heartfelt thanks to silver haired woman and the woman in question was taken aback by it shaking her hand and saying not a problem and you should thank the boy not her for she haven't did anything

Woman then looked towards the boy who was lazily lying on the roof of the carriage waiting for something she approached the man and given her heartfelt gratitude towards him yet he dismissed it with wave of his hand and tell her to perform acts of kindness towards others not him

Confused she agreed and soon was greeted by her husband flying out off the cave being held on by small little girl with the wings on her back woman only now realized that girl have wings on her back and she just stared at them in disbelief

"Beako" the boy jumped off the top off carriage and went up to pick little girl with wings up and spin her around

"Stop your tomfoolery in fact" little girl responded

"But you saved him, haven't you?" Subaru hugged his little spirit and given her a kiss to her forehead who with redden cheeks responded "naturally I did"

They soon placed unconscious man in the carriage and because there was no space left the boy and little girl remained on top off the carriage blue maid took rains and silver haired woman went to join the boy on the roof of the carriage as well

And the mother of the family soon found herself inside luxurious carriage being transported towards nearby village and upon arrival there she recognized the village it was alarm village where her sister moved to

Before she could even think about her sister she heard her name being called out from other side of villages center "Margaret is that you" just as adult woman rushed up to carriage's window

Petra hid behind her own mother and was looking from the side off her towards her Auntie and blinking her own big eyes

Margaret however could not help but notice few spirits that where floating around Petra

"Petra, are you a spirits art user?" Margaret responded

And Petra looked at her confused but then she had understanding as she made ohhh sound with her mouth

"No no no those spirits and I haven't contacted with one another they just flying around the village playing with kids and kids playing with them there's no contracts here at all spirits just stay here because they want to" Petra responded as she extended her arm and let spirit land on it who soon did and gently played with it for a bit then lifted her hand back up to let spirit fly back into the air

Subaru seeing this interaction blinked few times and smirked "you know you do have talent to be spirit arts user Petra" he responded and Emilia looked at Subaru with widened eyes

Subaru looked back to Emilia with deadpan pan expression on his face "Petra is playing with great spirit Beatrice on daily basis you honestly think she don't have talent to be spirit arts user?" he deadpan half-elf who in turn covered her head in shame for she failed to notice something so obvious

"Of course she has in fact" Beatrice responded with puffed out smirk

Margaret was taken aback yet again at this interaction not only her sister's daughter was familiar with THE legend himself and was on really friendly terms with him but she was playing with GREAT SPIRIT on daily basis just because she wanted to play with her or at least that what it sounded like

"We found them being captured by some bandits. Originally I was planning to drop them off at Mary's place but if you know them will you look after them ?" Subaru declared and Peilin naturally nodded her head

"Yes naturally we shall look after them but please don't be shy come and join us for dinner" Peilin responded with small grin on her face

"Yes we shall drop by if you don't mind but that be tomorrow because today we already had a long day and just want to rest" Subaru with a smile and apology delayed his entrance to Petra home and Peilin nodded her head to this as she casually picked up her sister's husband in her arms and after goodbye from her she went back home

"Petra you can take rest of the day off this is important family situation so it's fine" Subaru patted Petra head as he send her home for today originally Petra wanted to refuse but at mention of a family matter she stopped herself from doing so and agreed

And so Petra's family went back to their home and Subaru with Emilia, rem and Beatrice returned back to the mansion they were greeted by red oni who was practically radiating fury from her as she politely greeted Emilia and her sister however she completely ignored Subaru

"She is pissed because her sister is with me and I find her behavior hilarious considering" Subaru shrugged as he smirked looking toward mansion especially towards the part where Roswell should be

This did not went unnoticed as rem sighted and Emilia just ignored entire thing that's going on between ram and Roswell

"But the elder sage wouldn't see us coming weren't he omnipotent?" On of his companions questioned it

"That's is but false rumor he might be good at predicting and he might even know that we are coming but he can't know who is he dealing with here" Elder of the group stated with a whispering voice

All other looked to one another and nodded "there's this new upstart that's being taking away clients from us so we need to pull this job off or we will end up homeless soon" Elder stated as he looked at everyone

Other members with a disdain in their voices whispered her name "Natsumi Swartz" because after she made her appearance the job's for them begin to dry up and rapidly for everyone knows of her and everyone is afraid of her yet everyone is seeking her out to hire her for jobs to do and jobs she do accept all but one were performed with perfection unseen before

"If we succeed where that bitch failed we will regain our number one spot here in Laguna Ca as the best assassins in town. You all understand how much is riding on this job?" Elder stated as everyone nodded their heads with clenched fists

After all they all lost so much prestige and fear from locals moment that bitch moved in for before they could scare almost everyone even some royal knights with their name alone The night hunters and now no one taking them seriously anymore for this upstart just making knight's look like incompetent morons and they have to actually be extremely careful of knight's movement especially when they move in large numbers

And yet this bitch walked into a small town with hundreds of knight's killed the noble finished the job and walked out of that town as if it's a joke and all the knight where doing where running around like headless chickens

Something like that is completely unheard off even if she employs THE Bowel Hunter herself even she could not do something like that

And only one job she failed as rumors stating was just this and this alone so when nobleman's pawn approached with a chest full of gold and the job Elder could not let this opportunity pass

"Remember we aren't only ones on this job others where given same job as well I spoken it leader's from all 6 companies and we reached agreement job first other stuff later" Elder stated earnings cautions yes from his companions

"Moment job is done I expect others to turn against us in effort to get bigger share on achievement for people in this line of job don't like sharing" elder commented and his companions softly giggled at this notion

"So keep eye's out for others and try to at least pretend you where avoiding from killing them" Elder noted as he heard gleeful whisper of yes elder from his companions

Elder then pulled out map and placed it on the ground it was barely visible but light from the moon given just enough light to let them see the map

"I paid huge coin for this map it's a map of mansion study it well because it comes from a man that built this mansion and he drawn the map from his memory he said all matter mansions where identical to one another so he is confident this map is accurate and it shows all hidden compartment especially Emergency exit" Elder pointed towards a tunnel leading to outside of the mansion from office of lord

"Elder is number of targets haven't changed?" one of his companions stated

"Job is to eliminate sage and if possible any other residents as well passing merchants said there were around 10 people 3 of whom where children rest where women and only 3 males in entire mansion the sage and the lord of the lands the lord of mansion is not here today for he was called in to speak with some nobility and only males are sage and some blond kid so today is best chance to strike" Elder noted however one of his companions noted

"Elder weren't there's that green merchant there as well?" he stated

Elder took a moment to contemplate and he then sighted "Yes there was one I completely forgotten about him he is nothing we need to worry about" Elder shrugged as he completely forgotten about the merchant that dress up in green

Elder then looked at everyone's eyes and whispered to all" You boys ready to make history?" he declared and all responded with yes

So Elder took his 40 men the best of the best from his company each and every single one of them where hardened killers born into slums or slavery they used to kill to get by eventually they got taken in by the elder who in turn was same as them yet older

They stealthy traveled to other side of Emergency exit and with some searching they found hidden entrance to the mansion elder placed 5 of his companions to set up traps and ambushes for anyone attempting to flee from this

He then split remainder of his group into groups of 5 and made them circle entire mansion and slowly and with utmost care to remain hidden they approached the mansion

And as they entered they noticed slight cracks on the windows but other then that entire mansion was deathly quiet

And as they carefully made the way through the mansion they failed to notice that cracks on the windows disappeared leaving behind undamaged windows

As they keep on advancing and checking every room in mansion for potential targets they noted that each and every room they entered where empty and near identical to one another however this ominous Deathly feeling remained as if someone is looking at them

And yet they could not figure out whatever they where exposed or not yet so they remain hidden to the best of their abilities

And as they keep checking each and every room they could they noted on how Crystal clean they all where and yet there was no servants in sight for cleaning this big of a mansions you would need more than 20 maids and yet every room so far remained empty

But suddenly they heard a fain scuffle from next room so quiet that they almost missed it and as they all nodded to one another they entered that room

And what they were greeted by where a corpse laying next to the bed presumably for long time because the corpse was nothing more then skeleton who was holding a weapon or at least what's left of it with a quick look Elder concluded that weapon was ax before but was shattered into 20 peace's who were laying next to the corpse

However, another piece of news reached the elders ' ears as one of his companions noticed something about that corpse "Aren't that from the wolf gang?" With a whisper his condition stated

Elder looked towards skeletons chest and in between rags that skeleton was wearing was metal medallion identical to ones wolf gang carry around

"It seems competition showed up earlier then we had" Elder whispered as he was looking at the skeleton yet no response was given to him

He then looked around himself only to find he is alone all his companions seemingly vanished into thin air

He then Ready his blade and run towards door opening it with his shoulder dropping any and all stealth he once employed he found himself in same hallway he was walked in before but entire hallway was Deathly quiet and no corps or anything even remotely suggesting anyone where here

No damage no sound nothing just empty hallway in the mansion

Elder hastily proceeded to move down this halfway with quick yet silent steps making no sound for making no sound was second nature for him at this point

As he hastily moved down corridor he noticed some of his men moving into yet another room in the distance he hastily yet quietly moved up to that room to warn them there's something weird going on here

And by time he reached that room and entered he seen empty undisturbed room for there was nothing in there and his men seemingly disappeared yet again

Elder now realized that job had failed run towards nearest window and jumped through it in attempt to get away from this mansion only to find himself still inside same corridor

"What in god's name is going on here" Elder noted as he realized that he failed to leave he then looked at the same window he jumped out from only to see it's still intact and there were no damage done to it

Elder then picked up furniture he was standing next to and tossed it into the window only to see that furniture disappear in front of him as if it's was never there

With widened eyes elder looked around himself and soon found a broom left leaning on the wall he picked it up and attempted to poke the window only to realize that brooms touched the window without any issues

elder then used that same broom as if it's a spear and tossed it towards the window in attempt to break it yet broom disappeared before it made contact with a window

he then took few steps back looking at this window and only then he noticed that looking through this window towards outside there was nothing but pure darkness no light from the stars not light from the moon nothing just pure darkness and regardless how hard he tried to see the world outside he couldn't for there was nothing but pure darkness

Elder taking few steps back turned to his right and started running at full speed in attempt to reach Emergency exit inside lords office as he was running down the hallway he heard fain sobbing from one off the rooms he imminently slowed down and placed his ear on the door to confirm that there was signs of life on another side of this door and to his surprise sobbing was still there

He carefully opened the door trying to make as little sound as possible and peek through opening only to see it was one of wolf gang members but it wasn't just any member it was gangs leader a woman by the name katerina

He walked into the room and whispered towards the woman "Kate where are everyone" he asked weeping woman who flinched at his voice and looked towards him with terrified empty eyes

"You… come… but it's already over That Thing…. Took them…." Katerina responded with tears in her eyes and shaking body

Elder looking at the crying woman could not believe his eyes for she is same blood thirsty battle hardened ruthless killer that two shared something akin to rivalry with one another always competing to outperform another and yet she is crying in corner hiding herself from something

"What who?" elders asked as Katerina paled and began pissing herself as she pointed toward entity standing behind him

Elder immediately pulled out his dagger and swung it behind him in attempt to hit it regardless what it might be only to realize his dagger and his entire arm fly straight pass it as if it's not even there

There stood a boy with mean eyes wearing a hat calmly looking at him staring a hole into his soul

Elder wasting not even a second send some of his poisoned throwing daggers at the boy and yet his dangers fly right past him and shortly afterwards disappearing from sight as if they weren't there to begin with

Boy simply standing there staring at elder who was taking few steps back fighting against sensation of primordial dread creeping on him

Boy then placed his hand on the wall and elder could see black worm like things being not travel down the walls covering room in pure darkness and rapidly

Elder thinking fast pulled out mana crystals and tossed it to the wall making it explode before it reached the wall and he was running into the explosion

Explosion made hole into the wall and elders with few injuries and some burnt parts on his body made to other side and without even fraction of a second he ran out of that room he found himself in

And as he was running down the hallway he glanced back at where that boy was with corner of his eyes only to see boy slowly turning to look at him

Elder at this point only wanted to get out from this mansion of horrors run at maximum speed he could muster towards any exit he could find trying windows again yet failing, trying entrance doors yet failing he eventually reached Emergency exit hoping that it might be different

And as he opened the secret door he run down underground cave down some steps at full speed still fully remembering this maze of corridor down here from the map he was given

As he was running he seen some corpses scattered around yet he ignored it and just keep on running soon he reached area where he positioned his men prior to attack and noticed traps where trigger but it was not mansions residents it where but different assassins sent to attack the mansion

One of casualties where his own men yet elder had no time contemplate on this so he keep on running even if he seen his men who he left to guard this exit where hangings off the walls with mutilated bodies and missing parts of their bodies he just keep on running at full speed

And soon he got outside of the cave stumbling for a bit as he was greeted by the night starry sky and just as sensation or relief took over him he heard a clapping sound nearby

Elder looked at direction where sound comes from only to see that same boy sitting on dead log casually clapping his hands congratulating him on managing to escape the mansion

Elder thrown smoke bomb under his feet as he begin running away towards opposite direction away from that boy at full speed and running down the hill top hoping to move faster and as he was running he glanced towards the boy one more time only to see him standing up and casually being to walk towards him

As elders looked in front of him he seen it was not just normal hill top it was cliff and he was falling down it yet to a man like him a mere cliff where nothing so he pulled out his long sword and slammed it to cliff side slowing down his decent and then propelling him away from cliff and as he landed on the ground he keep on running

Without looking back but he could feel that boy is getting closer as his entire body begins to experience fear

Elder glances back and see boy still casually walking towards him even if elder is running at full speed he was not increasing the distance between him and the boy instead distance is shrinking

Elder now gripped in fear and beginning to slightly panic where pushing himself to his limits trying to run faster and faster and yet distance where shrinking

Elder realizing that his escape is impossible regardless how hard he might try turned around and begin running into the boy as he pulled out even more magic crystals hoping that explosion might help to slow him down at least

He jumped and tossed mana crystals towards the boy and soon they exploded before reaching that boy Elder was jumping into explosion yet again but this time she was jumping over it hoping that explosion might slow him down

And yet as he was still mid air he felt something slimy touching his lead and with that he was slammed into the ground with enough force that blew air out off his lungs and he was having difficulties breathing at first

Yet only in a matter of second elder recovered and he looked towards his leg only to see massive shadow like arm holding it down and boy casually walking up to him and grabbing him by his chin lifting him into air Elder attempted to do something anything yet his body was no longer responding he was frozen in absolute fear

Boy looking around him and inspecting elders body he then with a calm cold voice muttered to himself "This one haven't broken yet so he could be used hope he prove to be more useful than that stinky woman that keep pissing herself" boy muttered as he casually dragged elders body with him even if elder attempted to do escape but he was now fully encased into black shadow like thing that was more familiar to a slime then shadow's

Soon elder realize he was being dragged towards catacombs of mansion where prison cells are he looked at people there and realized something each and every single person there were leaders of their own respective assassins organizations but each where crying or hitting their heads against the walls screaming "Please kill me" yet the boy casually walked past them all and tossed him into empty cell and yet out of all organizations who were hired for this job one was missing

The boy then looked at Elder "I hope my beloved will not need to resort to extracting information out off your dead body so please don't break too fast" boy responded with sickening smile

And then it finally hit elder he never had a chance to escape this boy and only reason he is still alive is to get information out off him

Losing all hope, the elder fell to his knees as everything he saw in his life was nothing compared to the boy who just walked into the wall and disappeared from sight.

Elder slowly turning his head to see that Katerina was already here hiding in the corner swaying back and forth holding her head muttering something unrecognizable just as she was creating bigger and bigger puddle under her

He then looked at other cell seeing man hitting his head into the rock as hard as he can trying to kill himself yet failing because his arms and legs where missing and he could not extort enough force to break his own skull

He then looked towards others each and everyone where displaying signs of insanity as one was continuously scratching himself to a point he was drawing blood and other was trying to bite off his tongue yet failing due to cloth in his mouth

And only few seconds later that boy returned dragging yet another with him and as he tossed him to free cell he sighted to himself and then looked towards elder

"Please don't break too fast" boy told him as he walked closer to him and elder soon got surrounded by the shadow and in pure darkness

But before he could even contemplate what's going on he felt intense cold hitting his skin and as he rubbed his eyes and blinked few times he noticed he is in frozen clearing with nothing around him but snow and cold as he was observing everything around him he soon noticed something moving he looked closer to it and realized it was not something it was a white rabbit and he knew exactly what that was so he tried to run and yet he's body didn't not responded inside his own lips stated "what is this" out loud as he extended his arm and his arm soon got eaten off

And not just his arm soon his entire body got eaten by that rabbit in painful manner and then sweet embrace of death soon took over him yet it only lasted for but a moment for he soon awoken back inside that cell

"Now tell me everything you know or you go back there capisce?" boy told him yet Elder just experiencing death was unable to say anything and only feel utter confusion and fear

Moments later certain sensations began to take over and he began screaming why why why over and over and over again as he was hitting his head into the wall

The boy then slapped him into face and got Elder out of his state and the boy stared into his eyes for a moment expecting something yet after few moments passed disappointed sight followed the boy and he stood up away from elder saying

"You don't want to speak ok off you go" boy responded in a playful manner and put the elder into darkness once more.

Soon all assassins who were captured got interrogated by the boy who failed at gaining any information out off them and just left them for others to continue their investigation perhaps her methods where too soft tella conclude as she was returning to her beloved's room and not the room with that appetizer

She then looked sideways at the mirror and was yet again captivated by her beloved's handsome appearance so much so she could not help herself but begin touching everything that is him this continued for good 20 minutes but then tella felt her beloved is waking up so she placed her body on the bed and let go of control over his body and as she returned back to house of shadows and greeted her beloved two soon got consumed by their morning ritual of enjoying each other's embrace

But that's a story for another time

(Authors notes: yea I figured I should start revelling other parts of sattelas suit that she made for Subaru so there you have it gloves that I been teasing for few chapters now got revealed and you got small glimpse at fraction on what his suit can do there's good reason why I call that suit OP as fuck but then again its sattela who made it for her beloved to wear

And perhaps I should start posting slightly shorter chapters? Even though this was supposed to be only interlude to chapter 9 tho ^_^

And the time to post chapters are bit… unpredictable atm due to real life stuff ( new job + Christmas / new years on top off moving to new place to live so a lot off stuff happening to me right now so)
