Alone in a glistening forest, a young woman slowly stirred, the sounds of what she assumed to be Corviknights or Murkrows filtered through the trees. "Ugh, my head...Feels like a Cinderace played football with it." Clutching her head, she felt the small weight of her glasses falling down her face. 'Did I really fall asleep with my glasses on?' Slowly sitting up and taking in her surroundings she exclaimed "W-Where am I? This doesn't look like anywhere I've been, and I've been tons of places!"
Thinking quickly, she took out her phone and opened the map app. "No service? Well, today's just Absol's day ain't it." She said frustrated.
Standing up she saw her rucksack where she was laying. She checked to make certain everything was in place, (they were). Following this, she whipped her hands into her trousers to make sure her most valuable positions were still with her. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as she felt the small balls in her grasp. Taking them out, she gave a loving look at the collection of six Pokeballs in her hands before holding them tightly to her chest in a mock hug. "I'm glad I didn't lose you guys, don't know what I'd do then. Probably wouldn't be pretty. I probably run out of basic necessities pretty fast, then I'd run out of food, and I'd have to use apple cores as-" She was interrupted in the ramblings by a violent shaking of one of the balls in her hand, clearly signalling that whoever was in there clearly heard enough. The others in the bunch rattled slower but it was clear that they didn't want to listen to whatever she envisioned either. "Okay, okay. Sorry guys. I'll shut my mush. I'll call you if I need you." Putting the balls back into her pockets, she said, "Welp, I guess I have to take a gander around until I can make it back to a town. Who knows, maybe I might find a new Pokemon while I'm out!" With that she picked a direction and started walking.
But no sooner than 10 steps later, she heard a rustling in the grass a few meters away. 'Speak of Giratina! Today might be my lucky day after all. I should hide to get close to it.' Pure excitement filled the young trainer as she swiftly hid in nearby foliage to try and sneak up on whatever was coming out of the bushes.
Fortunately for her, the decision to hide might have saved her life. For out of the bushes came a massive black creature, nearly twice as large as a Stoutland, it's head covered in a white mask that looked like the bones worn by Marowaks, only much more sinister. Spikes like that of a Lucario's yet longer stuck out from it's arms and legs.
The trainer's thoughts passed by a thousand per minute as she stared at the creature in pure excitement. 'What is that?' Pulling out her phone and opening the Pokedex feature, she tried to scan it, only to be met with (Data not found). 'Data not found? That's odd. It should have over 1000 species documented. Could this be a new species of Pokemon?! I should try to catch it!'
The trainer's excitement hit its peak, and as she was about to emerge from the bushes to confront it, it turned its head and she saw its eyes. Its eyes glowed red like a Sharpedo's and seemed to leave a trail of red whenever it moved. A sense of wrongness filled her while staring at this thing. As fear gripped her heart, the thing turned and made its way to where the trainer had been resting. Sniffing the ground around the area, it suddenly reared back and went into a frenzy. Kicking up grass and dirt before stopping to sniff the air again. Letting out a strange and foreboding howl before seemingly beginning to search again.
By this point the trainer was rightly intimidated, she considered running now to try and escape, but morbid curiosity held her there. 'If this truly is a new species, I should follow it. Observe it. I might discover more about it in its natural habitat this way.' Rustling nearby revealed two more of the black creatures before they joined the original. 'If from a safe distance away. Time to sneak away!'
…
Around 10 minutes later, the trainer was following the creatures from about 10 meters behind, and they hadn't done much outside of continuing in a relative start line. As the excitement began to dwindle, the trainer noticed something. 'I have come across any other Pokemon for as long as I've been here. Normally there'd be a Skwovet or Rattata or something or another, but outside of what might be Murkrow, I haven't seen anything. I would try to catch one of these if it were on it's own, but they look tough. If my team were to be defeated here without me knowing where a nearby Pokemon center is, I'd be in a real bind. I should just stay away and out of s-'
*SNAP*
The sound of a twig snapping interrupted both her thoughts and the creatures ahead. With horror, the trainer looked down to the snapped twig underneath her foot. The black things also noticed this, and by extension her. "Uh oh." The things barred black teeth and began to close the distance between them.
"Uh, eheh, sorry for disturbing you gents...You would happen to know a way to town would you?"
The beasts roared in response and began their chase.
"So no. Okay. Got it. Bye!" Turning on her heel, she began running as fast as she could in the opposite direction.
Trees darted by in an instant. Her shoes miraculously flew over the many roots and rocks littering the uneven ground. Her short hair flurried behind her. Her heart pounding in her chest telling her to keep moving. While having an encounter go south often meant running away this was the fastest she had ever run before. At the end of her rope, she would have tried to slow down and fight, but whenever she attempted to do so, the sounds of teeth gnashing and claws swiping the air came mere centimetres away from the back of her head, inspiring her to gain a second wind and run even faster.
After what must have been multiple kilometres, the trainer so found her second winds becoming less in strength and number. If she were to keep running for much longer, she'd eventually collapse and then they would catch her.
As she was nearing her end, she spotted a clearing ahead, but more importantly, what appeared to be people around the clearing. 'People! Nobody would be this close to these woods without Pokemon! Even if they can't stop these things, they can at least buy me enough time to stop and join in myself.' Steeling herself for one last dash, she pushed herself to the absolute max as she broke into the clearing.
….
Coco Adel sat in the small clearing, waiting for the airship to come and pick up her and her team. They had been assigned a relatively easy mission and had finished early. They partially had the next hour or so to themselves, so Team CFVY sat relaxing around, cracking jokes, telling stories and drinking coffee.
"And that's how I found out headlight fluid doesn't work on cats." Yatsuhashi said, wrapping up his story.
"Was the cat alright?" Their rabbit-eared faunus team member, Velvet asked with a worried look.
"It was fine, I made sure that it got taken care of for years before I came here. I left lil Gav with just the sweetest old woman. I'm sure he's fine." The large man clarified.
Velvet sighed in relief, "That's good. I'd hate to see-" She stopped mid sentence, her ears perked up and she glanced to the side at a seemingly random part of the forest. "Somethi-"
Before she could even finish, Team CFVY was already on their feet staring in the same direction. At the same time, everyone heard a scream ring out from the forest.
"HELP!"
Rocketing from the treeline came a young woman in what appeared to be a gray and pink outfit with large glasses and a flat hat on her head. But Coco could get a very good look at her because not a second later, a swarm of around 12 beowolfs and an Alpha beowolf came bursting out from behind her, nearly biting off her heels whenever they got the chance.
"HOLY- that's nearly an entire pack, we should help her!" Yatsuhashi yelled.
"Right. Velvet, you get the girl to safety; Fox, Yatsuhashi, take care of the smaller ones; I'll take the alpha." Coco said. A confirmation was said around and the team broke to do their parts.
Velvet dashed ahead, quickly grabbing the girl and diving backward, narrowly avoiding the alpha's lunge at the spot they just were. As they were falling back into cover, Coco took the initiative and slammed the weapon, Gianduja into the underside of the alpha's jaw as it rose back up. Swiftly followed with a palm and a kick to it's chest, knocking it a couple feet back.
Sparing sidelong glances to confirm that Fox and Yatsuhashi had engaged, (which they had) Coco locked eyes with the recovering alpha and taunted. "Now, what were you doing to that girl, nothing naughty I hope. Cause then I'd have to show you some discipline."
The alpha responded with a roar and a charge.
"Oh, so you were then? Course you were," dodging to the left with the speed of a trained huntsman, she moved out of the way long before the alpha could even get near her, "That just means I have to do my job and punish you then." Aiming for its front legs, Coco swung Gianduja, hitting it with a sickening snap. She aimed for it's head to finish it off but it turned nearly on a dime and dodged.
It swiped the air in front of Coco as she dodged back, its large claw coming dangerously close to her face. "Oh, you're quite fast there. Unfortunately, I'm stronger." Closing the distance, she kicked her leg up into its head twice, once from below, once from the side. Finishing with her handbag unfolding into a dangerous looking minigun, she fired multiple rounds into its hide. The alpha let out a screech as it tumbled back dead. Its body disintegrated into ashes moments later.
Fox's and Yatsuhashi's fights nearly as well, with three of them running away, the rest having been killed. The fights themselves barely lasted 3 minutes. Walking up to the two men, Coco said "Nice work, now let's go check on our little rescuee."
The girl was hunched over, panting heavily before straightening up, assuming a combative stance and shouting "Alright Ya Black Bellied-" She stopped, glancing around her, seeing that the Grimm were gone, "Oh they gone…" Relaxing again she faced the team she said "Did you lot chase them off?"
"Yes, are you alright?" Velvet replied for her team.
"Aye, thank you. Really saved my arse there." The girl said, holding out her hand, "Name's Gloria McSaxona, what's your's?"
"Team CFVY, apprentice Huntsmen. I'm Coco, that's Fox, Yatsuhashi and that's Velvet behind you." Coco said, pointing at each member in order. "Mind telling us how you got into that mess?"
Without the Grimm, she could take a good look at the girl. She looked exhausted, likely from having just outran several Grimm. Her clothes looked old and faded, as if they'd seen years of use and repair. Yet Coco with all her fashion knowledge couldn't place anywhere at any time where the clothes would be popular, she also couldn't quite place her accent either. "I wanted to see what they'd do. I got spotted and had to run. I thought they'd give up after the first hour or so." She collapsed into a sitting position, taking out a weird scroll. Instead of the holographic design of most scrolls, her's was orange and opaque; due to this, Coco couldn't see what she was doing on her 'scroll'. "Sorry, but I happen to be lost. You wouldn't happen to know how to get back to civilization, would you?"
"Uh, yeah. We were just about to catch a ride back to Vale, do you...want to come?" Velvet asked.
Gloria looked confused before saying "Vale? I've never heard of it, is that a nearby town?"
Team CFVY sat in stunned silence for a few moments before Fox spoke up, "You haven't heard of the Capital of Vale? You know you're in Vale and miles away from the Vacou border, right?"
Gloria responded with an even more confused expression. " What's Vacou? What's a Capital? What's a mile?"
The confusion in the air could be cut with a knife. 'How can someone be this naive? I'd get it if she didn't know one of these things but all of them?!" Fox told his teammates via his Semblance.
'I have no clue. Let's just bring her back to Beacon and have a Professor deal with this instead.' Coco responded, also telepathically, as Fox's semblance went both ways. Out loud she said, "Alright, we'll take you with us for now, and we'll take you to someone who can get you help, okay?"
"O-okay.." A still very befuddled Gloria responded.
Not a second later, the loud sound of an airship landing a few yards away, started the group out the conversation. "Oh perfect timing, the airships here. Grab the supplies and let's move." Turning to Gloria, Coco raised a hand to help her up, "Come on, our ride is here." Dragging her to her feet, she made her way to the airship, which was now lowering it's ramp, only to notice that she was still practically dragging the other girl along. She looked to see that Gloria had a worried look on her face and was dragging her feet. "Yes?"
"That thing over there," she pointed to the airship, "you said it's an 'airship,' right?"
"Yes, what's the problem?" Coco responded.
"Well then, where are the birds?" Gloria asked.
"Wha-why would there be-" She stopped, done with the girls naivety, "just get in the airship, there won't be any birds and you'll be safe."
"But-"
"Just-Come on.." Coco said, placing a hand on the other's back and practically forcing the smaller girl into the airship.
At that point Gloria knew, it was probably only the start of what would inevitably be a long day.
End Chapter 1
Authors Notes
Hello there. First things first, this is my first fanfiction and I'm taking this as more of a writing exercise. I've said before that fanfiction is a great way to get into writing, so I'd love to hear feedback on where I'm lacking or where I'm doing great! Thank you all in advance.
Second, team CFVY is not going to be appearing in this as any sort of recurring character, simply because I do not know enough about them to really get their characters, so I'd hate to make their fans mad with a butchering of their characters.
Third, the trainer here is meant to be a somewhat aged up Gloria from Sword and Shield, but with large glasses. I'll expand on it in the future. For now, just trust me.
Four, I'm not British (I am Irish but not Native), but I am trying to make certain scenes involve British/Scottish dialect. If I'm failing miserably at that, please tell me.
That should be about everything for now. So I'll end it here, 'til we meet again and all that jazz.
