Chapter 1

It was official after that crazy day, even for Grey's Sloan (at the same time a hospital that catches fire after an explosion triggered because a rapist had taken hostage a resident, it beats by far a mad shooter who goes into a hospital to kill the surgeons), today was a really bad day. Arizona had just broken up with her girlfriend. She knew that with Eliza they weren't meant to be, they were not meant to have THE great love story, with the children, the house and the chickens. Their relationship had an expiration date, but apparently it arrived faster than expected. The blonde was still a bit sad because it was her first "real" relation after Callie. Eliza had allowed her to realize that she could still love, maybe not in the same way she loved Callie but that she could still loved in a certain way.

POV ARIZONA

When I went home after this day that didn't seem to end, I had only one desire, no in reality two: go take a shower because I had the impression that I had spent my day in a fish smokehouse (minus the fish) and sleep because I had been awake for almost forty-eight hours. When I came out of the shower, I had a weird feeling, as if something was missing or I had forgotten or wasn't correct. Not remembering anything, I grab my iPhone to check anyway. When I turned it on I realized that my home page was full of missed messages or calls.

Calliope – 6 missed FaceTimes

Calliope – 5 missed calls

Sofia and I take the habit of making FaceTime calls to bridge the distance, even though it didn't really fill it, but we still felt like we were closer physically. Since she was still young with Callie, we didn't want her to have a phone, so she borrowed her mother's phone. The number of missed calls still worried me because it was high. Usually when one of us couldn't answer, we did not insist that much. Scrolling through the rest of my notifications I noticed a message that surprised me, good or not I didn't know.

Calliope- I just saw the news, are you okay? Answer me so I know you didn't burn in the middle of this mess, please.

She was worried about me, and seeing the way the message went, she was totally freaked out. She had sent me this message almost four hours earlier, but I decided to reply anyway to reassure her.

Me- I'm okay, don't worry.

With Callie over the years, we had become rather good co-parents, or rather as best you can when one of the parents lives on the other side of the country. We weren't friends, at least not like before. After a year of divorce, we finally had a good relationship, we had gone beyond the stage where we wanted to kill each other, we became what we might call cordial, we behaved as adults, then the more time passed the more friendly we became. But after the custody battle for Sofia, we were back in a pass where we wanted to kill each other. Since her departure in New York, we have sometimes talked hurriedly when I was in FaceTime with Sofia and she was next to her, but it was never nothing more than a «Hi» or «How are you doing? ». Sometimes we would message each other but it was always about our daughter or the organization of future visits.

We didn't really know how to act around each other, I had forgiven Callie or I think. I knew our story was the best love story I ever had, she was it for me, but we blew it. I knew I still loved Callie and I would always love her, but it wasn't the same for her.

I continued to answer to emails about the hospital, as a board member we had to deal with the fire situation. After an hour my eyes closed alone in front of the accident counter-report, so I decide to took this to my cue to go sleep.

POV NO ONE

The next morning when the alarm sounded, swearing could be heard in the blonde's room. While she dressed up the feeling of yesterday came back to her. She felt like she had a knot in her stomach, that something wasn't right.

When she arrived at the hospital, she could see clearly the damage caused by the fire and explosion, a facade was completely blackened and a smell of smoke lingered in the air. She went to the coffee cart in front of the hospital like every morning, to pick up the precious drink that helped her to hold on all day. Once in line she decided to check if Callie had answered her message. Seeing no further notification, she put her phone in her pocket, raising her head she saw a familiar figure in front of her.

"Teddy?" asked the smallest of the two blondes. The person in front of her turned around before letting out a scream of joy.

''Arizona! It's been so long, how are you doing?'' asked Teddy while hugging her.

"I'm fine. It's been a long time! A lot has changed since you left! "They took their orders and continued to catch up for all their missed past years.

"What are you doing here? "asked Arizona while grabbing her coffee.

"They found Owen's sister when I was in Germany and they asked that she be taken in charge here so I went with her."

Arizona, who had heard of the story of Owen's sister like half of the hospital because of the rivalry between Riggs and the trauma surgeon, was happy for them because at last their doubts were gone, she was alive. But the return of the army surgeon also brought back the thoughts of her deceased brother who was a soldier. The knot in her stomach tightened even more if it were possible and suddenly her coffee made her nauseous. Teddy who had noticed the change in her friend's behavior and knowing the story of her brother decided to change the subject.

"Otherwise, how is Callie?" Arizona wince at the question

"It's been a REALLY long time since we've spoken to each other" noticed Arizona, as Teddy was unaware of their separation and didn't understand why this behavior.

"Hum, yeah, we talked for the last time before you go to Boise. I left shortly after your plane took off. "Teddy was also not aware that the plane had indeed taken off well but had never landed, at least not to the airport.

"Avoid mentioning Boise, or talking about a plane or a car accident, or amputation, or cheating. Don't cheat and don't forget to make a CT to your patient." Arizona asked with a small sad smile on her face.

"Uh ok" Teddy didn't understand why she had just been assigned a Forbidden-Word-List but she didn't ask any more questions. "And you still don't answer me, how is Callie?"

"Uh I don't know" in front of Teddy's puzzled face she continued, "We got divorced," she simply added.

"Wait, What?" Teddy couldn't hide the fact that she was stunned "You're kidding, right? "In front of Arizona's sad gaze, she realized that she wasn't joking, but also that the divorce was surely not her idea. "Wow, I didn't expect this one! But why, I mean when I left you were fine, you were great, you were my aspirational couple! How-what went wrong? "

Arizona said sadly in a sigh, "Honestly, I… I can't tell you how we got here, I don't know. Things happened after you left, big things, and before we knew what was going on, well, we got to the point of no return. And two years later we were in a courtroom fighting tooth and nail for Sofia and now, well, now I see my daughter at every school break while the rest of the year she lives in New York with her other mother. "Arizona reopened her eyes she had closed while explaining how she had messed up her marriage to her friend, as if to relive it or not see the expression of compassion Teddy was going to offer her like everyone else. She wiped a tear that had broken through her closed eyelids, and offered a small smile to the dirty blond who remained mute for a while.

"WOW. We really have some catching up to do!" She saw something behind Arizona's back that made her frown.

"So, Callie lives in New York now, right? "She asked with her eyes still fixed in the back of Arizona, who was leaning against a gate with her head bent back and her eyes closed as if to enjoy the sun.

"Yup" she slowly confirmed as if not to disturb her tranquility, her eyes still remained closed, "she left there to go with her perfect pretty penny."

"With who?" asked Teddy who had never heard of this girl before, but she didn't give Arizona time to respond "You haven't spoken since when with her? "She asked her eyes always fixed on the person at the coffee cart where they were a few moments earlier.

"Since yesterday I think, yeah she never answered me. Why all this questions, you became a cop in Germany? "Arizona asked, laughing and opening her eyes. Seeing the expression on her friend's face, she frowned herself and stood up "why are you looking like you saw a ghost?"

"It's- "She didn't have time to finish her sentence that the smallest of the two blondes turned to see what she was staring at.

"What the- "Teddy barely understood what was going on, that Arizona was already in front of the subject of their discussions a few minutes ago.

"Callie?!" Asked Arizona to the brunette who had just picked up her own coffee.
