Authors note: I'm not an experienced writer so I decided to move Harry's birthday to July 31st, 2002 for convenience. I've also decided not to show the night Voldemort attacks the potters but just know this is a wbhl fic. So without further ado let's begin. :)

Looking at the burn on his hand Harry didn't know how but he knew somehow he'd have to find a way to escape the grasps of the Dursleys. The burn had been there for a few days but it still stung him hard.

The steam iron burn had occurred as a punishment on account of Harry accidentally dropping a plate while serving the Dursley's dinner.

Harry knew he would have gotten off lighter if Marge Dursley wasn't there but Vernon Dursley couldn't appear like a wimp in front of his older sister.

Vernon had brought Harry's hand to the steam iron and let it sit for 7 seconds. It would have been 2 seconds less but the screams had enticed Vernon to raise the time.

The Dursleys had been out today luckily for him. They had gone to some work dinner with Vernon's boss at Grunnings and dropped off Dudley with one of his friends.

Harry got back to the book he was reading but again quickly got distracted by his burn. So he reread the last page of the book and put it down.

He'd been kinda distracted and was just simmering through the page the first time so on the second round he'd taken a moment to read and understand the words on the page.

He tucked the book in under his pillow for later and left the cupboard under the stairs. Today he was meant to vacuum the entire house, excluding his cupboard of course. Harry didn't get the privilege of having a clean room.

He made his way over to the living room and looked at the calendar. It was July 31st, 2010, his 8th birthday if the Dursleys could be trusted.

Harry couldn't believe it, when had he lost track of time? It had been July 1st just yesterday. Birthdays weren't glamorous for him but they meant he got 10 pounds worth of spending money.

He usually bought some sweets and saved the other half but Harry had a different plan this year. He searched through the house before finding a crisp ten on the dining table. He picked it up and went over to the old Dursley family computer. He searched a little before finding what he needed, a website run by teens on how to escape abusive homes.

He searched through the website a little before finding something he could use. He'd found a list of train companies that would look the other way when kids were found without adults and found one departing for Cleveland. Harry wrote down the name of the train on a torn-up Grunnings business card and exited the site. Harry nearly forgot to delete the search from the history of the computer but caught himself right as he was about to turn the computer off.

Luckily for him, the Dursleys weren't home, so he got to pack his bag and by his bag, he meant an old backpack that was in the cupboard with him. It had a few tears but it was better than the toy bag Harry had initially thought of using.

Luckily for Harry when the Dursley's arrived they had been exhausted. He could move the plan up a little and get it done quicker than intended.

Once they'd fallen asleep the plan had begun. Harry put on his bag making sure he didn't forget anything and quietly opened the cupboard door and rushed over to find Petunia's purse. He found it on the kitchen table with the zipper half open. He unzipped it fully and began searching. It took him less than a second to find the key.

He found something else in the purse too. There was a Locket with a photo labeled Lily and Petunia.

The photo was of what looked like a young petunia and a person Harry recognized as Lily his mother. Harry examined the picture a little more before putting it in his bag and leaving the kitchen.

He rushed over to the other cupboard and put the key in quietly. It took him a minute but he opened the cupboard door.

Inside was a suitcase full of 1000 pounds worth of cash Harry had known about this because he had been there the day they were installing the lock and he was forbidden to open it under any circumstances. He picked it up then exited the cupboard. Then he closed and locked the cupboard.

Harry walked to the front door sort of saying a goodbye to the place before opening it and leaving.
