"Ne Kumiko-chan. Is it true?" Hazuki finally asked, trying to get the Euphonium player's attention.
Kumiko has been staring right at the blue sky, next to her chair. Her lunch remains untouched apart from the slight taps of her chopsticks.
"Ku-mi-ko!" Midori spells out her name.
It was the day after the Agata Festival. Kumiko's thoughts are still haunted by the magical night that transpired between her and Reina. Her thoughts consumed by the black-haired trumpet player.
Reina has been nothing more than an enigma to Kumiko. They've played together in middle school band. They've had their intensified moment when she saw the trumpet player's frustration at the thought of not being able to go to the National competition. Tears from those deep purple eyes beckon to be kissed away, yet, her words came out as though she wasn't supposed to mean them. And then, just when she thought she could start anew in high school, she sees The Kousaka Reina walking through the doors of the music room, announcing her intention to join the club.
"Just like her, I suppose." Kumiko's thoughts run through her mouth.
"Nani Kumiko-Chan?" Hazuki swiftly waving her hand in front of her classmate.
Kumiko blinks. "Hazuki-chan?" Finally, coming back to the conversation going on around her.
"People are talking, Kumiko-chan. Some kids from the school are saying you they saw you go up Mt. Daikichiyama and met your date there last night." Hazuki explains as Midori quickly nodding her head. Both girls eagerly waiting for their friend's explanation. "Who was it?"
"Hmmmm." Kumiko looks out towards the skies again, resting her chin on her hand. "Date. Date. Date."
"Is it true?" Midori finally speaks.
Kumiko relives the trail going up the hill, following Reina. The way the trumpeter's ponytail swayed as she walked. Words that have been spoken. Words that didn't need to be said. Oh, how Kumiko wanted to freeze the moment when they both played their duet together. The way Reina laughed. Kumiko didn't care if Reina was laughing at her or with her. If she could make the girl smile, let alone laugh, she couldn't care less about anything."
"Oy Oumae-san!" A boy from their class yells by the door, calling for Kumiko. "You have a visitor."
Kumiko's gaze turns from the window to the doorway entrance of their classroom. And there, she saw Reina standing. "Reina."
The barely whisper of Kumiko managed to get Hazuki and Midori's attention. Both girls followed Kumiko's gaze and wave at the trumpeter. Reina only bowed. "Sumimasen." Kumiko bows before leaving the shared lunch table and makes her way to Reina.
"Reina?" Kumiko approaches Reina, curious as to what brings the trumpeter to her classroom. Reina is from a different class. And this has been the first time Kumiko has received any visits from her.
"I'd like to talk to you." Just like Reina.
"Heh." Kumiko finds herself sporting a huge grin on her face. "Sounds like something you would do."
"If you don't want to, I can just-" Reina blushes as she looks down on her shoes.
Kumiko senses Reina's almost embarrassment, so she quickly reached the latter's hand and links their fingers together. She finds the other girl's hand warm and pleasant, so she leaned closer against Reina's ear to whisper. "Take me somewhere then."
Reina finds herself tightening their hands together as the feel of Kumiko's warm breath against her ear. She gathers all her energy to raise her look up to Kumiko and nods. Reina didn't know she was capable of turning tomato red. For all the self-control Reina has mastered all her life, nothing has stirred these aching feelings as much as the girl in front of her has done. So, Reina leads Kumiko down the hallway to take the staircase up towards the roof the the building.
The girls find themselves passing by double heavy doors as they reach the roof. And in one swift motion, Reina stopped on her tracks, turned to face Kumiko, pushed Kumiko up against a wall, and stared at the Euphonium player like there's no tomorrow. She leans forward, her lips barely grazing against Kumiko's. "I can't forget." She pauses. And before Kumiko could ask, "Gomen ne Kumiko. I can't forget what happened last night. I can hear the whispers along the hallway…" All that could Reina do was close her eyes, and lean her forehead against Kumiko's shoulder lest her threatened tears start to fall. "I meant every word that I said."
Within a second, she felt Kumiko's arms wrap around her waist, pulling her closer. The warmth and safety that is Kumiko, giving her the reassurance that everything will turn out okay, even if Kumiko doesn't say the words. Knowing the other girl, some awful words will find their way out of the brunette. Instead, Reina basked in the comfort of being in Kumiko's arms thinking, "so this is how her Euphonium feels when the brunette is holding the instrument." This very thought gave her a bit of smile.
"Reina."
Purple slowly brings her eyes to meet amber.
"I don't want to forget. I don't think I can, anyway. Even if I tried. But I don't. I mean, I don't want to forget. I always want to feel…" Kumiko knows she's babbling.
"You and your awful attitude." Reina smiles.
And once again, Kumiko was presented with the sweetest smile.
"I want to kiss you."
Reina looks at Kumiko blankly.
"Did I say that out loud?"
Reina nods.
"I'm going to melt."
"You said that out loud too."
"Rei-mmpppff"
And Kumiko knew that she never wants to kiss any other human for as long as she lives. The lips she's been longing to taste, from the person she's being aching to hold. And as inexperienced as they both were, the kiss permeated through their desires and heart's hunger. Neither one of them knew what it meant to yearn for someone, to fall head over heels for another person. But their feelings were enough to guide them to feel their first. As the tip of Kumiko's tongue lightly tracing Reina's lips, asking for permission… and it was willingly granted. It just came naturally. Reina didn't know how to respond to the taller girl's advances, but she just knew to accept and give up her first kiss to…
Kumiko moans softly into the kiss.
Reina finds the moan alluring and sexy.
Reina wraps her arms around Kumiko's neck, hoping to elicit more of those sounds.
Kumiko holds Reina tighter.
And Reina finally gives in… "Kumiko."
Both hesitantly pulling back.
"We should have lunch more often together." Kumiko smirks. Her forehead leaning against Reina's.
"You're awful." And this time, a slight peck finds its way to Reina's lips.
It was nothing like their first kiss. It's wasn't deep or not. No, this was sweet. One that promises much more of moments like the one they're sharing at this very moment.
"Kumiko, I will do my best in the audition. So you have to do your best too."
"Reina, I don't want anyone else."
Reina chuckles at Kumiko's random thoughts. "Let's go back to your classroom. You'll have to eat something before the afternoon audition."
"You're enough for me."
"Kumiko!" Yup. That red tomato hue is back on her face as the taller girl's comment is filled with teases and innuendos.
And Reina knew she had let her guard down for a split second as she finds herself pinned against the wall where Kumiko was at just a second ago. "You're the tease one, Reina."
"Onegai Kumiko." Reina can only falter so much as she feels Kumiko's lips against the side of her neck. She tilts her head a bit to the side enjoying the feel - "Kumi-" and she was silenced by the feel of Kumiko's swift bite and soft nibble against her skin. Reina reaches out to the brunette's uniform and clenches and she closes her eyes at the burning sensation that found its way between her legs. "Kumi - we can't. I have to go back to class."
Kumiko licks the spot she's been nipping.
"Both of us have to go back to class." Reina manages to catch her breath and continues. She looks at Kumiko's and sees Kumiko's lustful gaze drilling into her. "Kumiko, you will take responsibility if I cannot concentrate during the audition."
Kumiko nods. "Let's go back to class?"
Reina slowly releases her hand from Kumiko's uniform and straightens both of their clothes. She notices the other girl's hand reached out, and the trumpeter takes and links their fingers together as they make their way back to Reina's classroom. Kumiko figured, since Reina was the one that visited her in class, it'll be better if she drops the girl to her classroom first.
"Gomen! Gomen!" Kumiko finds her way back, re-joining Hazuki and Midori. She scarfs her lunch down within 2 minutes, only to find both pairs of eyes watching her. "Nan desu ka?"
"What is going on between you and Kousaka-san?" Midori asks non-chalantly.
"Hmmm?" She can only give a questioning look back at her friends.
"Your hair and uniform are both a mess." Hazuki points out, giggling. "Tsukamoto-kun came a while ago looking for you."
"I hope you put on your best charm, Hazuki-chan."
"Demo he was asking for you." Midori reasons out.
"I don't understand why he keeps visiting. He's not getting my lunch."
The sound of school bell ending lunch time rang. "Time to go back to my chair." Kumiko comments.
Hazuki and Midori looks at each other dejected. Neither one of them could hardly believe how dense their friend can be. Little do they know that Kumiko's heart has been given to the trumpet player.
