Like a groundhog, I've risen from my hole after a long absence. Now I know what you're thinking, "What Happened to The Nutty Ballad of David Seville?" Well, to put it simply, college happened. Please take my advice, young readers: college is nothing like high school. Do you know how your teacher gets up your ass whenever you're late with work? Well, the good news is that they leave you alone. But you gotta get in your thick skull that you're an adult, which means you have to look after yourself. Now I got the hang of things. Also, I'm having difficulty figuring out an ending to Dave's story. I'm open to suggestions.
For now, I have a new fanfic, probably my shortest yet. A story just in time for Valentine's Day (knock on wood). I've had this idea for a year now, so this is a long time coming. My fourth Chipmunk fanfic: "My Chipmunk Valentine."
Part 1 - Candy Girls
It was the middle of February. Even the weather was brisk in Sunny California. Nevertheless, love was in the air around (instead of something deadly and contagious). The reason being that Valentine's day, the most romantic day of the year, was just around the corner. On this holiday, it was expected of people to find a date; a "valentine." It took a lot of courage to ask someone to be their valentine, so many opted to buy their desired candidate gifts. The Bagdasarian Mall was filled to the brim with young love-struck shoppers.
Funky R&B music began to play through the speakers. The sunlight hung low, seeping onto the waxed floor. Suddenly, three singing chipmunks came skipping through the front doors:
(Theodore rapping) My girl's like candy, a candy treat
She knocks me high up off my feet
She's so fine as can be
I know this girl is just for me
(Chipmunks) Candy Girl!
(Theodore) You are my world
(Chipmunk) You look so sweet!
(Theodore) You're a special treat
(Chipmunks) Candy Girl!
(Theodore) All I want to say
(Chipmunks) When you're with me!
(Theodore) You brightened day
The brothers grooved their way through the mall. Alvin then took the lead. He imagined himself dressed as Hercules. Alvin went inside a place in the clouds and found Brittany dressed as a goddess. She was lying on a bed of roses as he serenaded her.
(Alvin) All I know
When I'm with you
Alvin flexed, causing imaginary Brittany to giggle. He then pulled her up to dance.
You make me feel so good
Through and through
In Simon's imagination, he was dressed like a scientist, alone in a rowboat out at sea. Jeanette, resembling a mermaid, jumped in and out of the water.
(Simon) The way you walk
Imaginary Jeanette swam backward like a dolphin. She grabbed onto the side of the boat and stared at Simon lovingly.
And the way you talk
Jeanette sang a high note while spinning. Simon then helped her onto the boat, and they stared into each other's eyes.
You always look so good
You make me forget my thoughts
Back in reality, the chipmunks began to dance up a downward escalator.
(Simon and Theodore) Do you really love me?
(Alvin) Do you really love me?
(Simon and Theodore) Don't you really care?
(Alvin) Don't you really care?
The boys are stuck halfway, still dancing in sync.
(Simon and Theodore) Don't you really need me?
(Alvin) Don't really need me?
The Chipmunks then jump over to the upward escalator, going straight to the next floor.
(Alvin) And Will you always be there?
In Theodore's imagination, he was in Candyland during nighttime. He wore sparkly green suspenders.
(Theodore) Every night
Eleanor magically appeared in front of him, dressed in a mint green dress. It then became daytime.
(Theodore) And everyday
He grabbed her hand, and they danced through a meadow of lollipops.
(Theodore) I'm always thinking of you
In every way
All the fantasy converged when Theodore and his crush skipped by the shore. Simon and Mermaid Jeanette show up on their rowboat while Alvin and Brittany fly down on a cloud.
(Chipmunks) Candy girl!
(Theodore) You are my world
Simon grabs some chocolate hearts off a coming bush and gives them to Jeanette, who smiles.
(Simon) You're everything
You're everything
You're everything to me.
The Chipmunks then imagined the Chipettes (dressed usually) sitting on heart-shaped thrones. The boys dressed up as the Backstreet Boys as well, wooing the imaginary girls.
(Chipmunks) Candy girl!
(Theodore) All I want to say
(Alvin) I need it
Need it, need it
Need it, need it every day
(Chipmunks) Candy girl!
The song number was interrupted by the Chipmunks getting a door slammed into their faces. "Come on, Leonardo!" a big-nosed scientist exited out, "Valentine's Day isn't going to invent itself." A relatively short lab assistant followed behind with a box of candy and paper hearts. "That's "Valentine," for Valentine, and "Day" for day." the scientist said off to the distance.
It took a moment before the Chipmunks shook out of their dizziness. "Heh, looks like we got lost in our singing again" Theodore smiled awkwardly.
"This is why I usually lead; I have better self-control," Alvin proclaimed.
"Biggest lie of the century," Simon remarked under his breath.
"Alright, boys. Enough screwing around," the red chipmunk announced, "We need to search every corner of this mall until I find the greatest gifts to give!"
"Or at least something under the $50 Dave lent us," Simon stated, "He probably expects us to buy chocolates and flowers."
"Yeah, that could work… if this was the 50s!" Alvin argued, "What modern woman would want with cheap snacks and dead plants?"
"Oh, it's everything I ever wanted!" yelled a young woman nearby.
A man around her age had just presented chocolates and flowers to her, "Will you be my valentine, Fiona?"
"Yes, Mark, yes!" the girl sang.
"That modern woman does," Theodore pointed.
Alvin sighed, "Regardless, we shouldn't settle for the typical. I didn't become the ladies' man I am from being plain. You gotta treat them like royalty. Show how much they mean to you."
"Is… is that true?" Simon tensed up
"What's this? Is the wet blanket that is my brother looking for love" Alvin teased.
"Well…um," Simon blushed, "Jeanette told me that you could ask anyone to be your Valentine, and it doesn't need to be romantic."
"And you wanna ask her?" Alvin smirked.
"Just as a friend!" Simon blurted, "Still, I want to be a good valentine for her…"
"So Jeanette will kiss ya?" the red-capped teen mocked.
"Alvin!" Simon yelled.
"I believe you, Simon," Theodore assured his brother, "Ellie always asks me to be her valentine."
"Tsk tsk tsk, what am I going to do with you two?" Alvin shook his head, "You ain't fooling me. I know you guys are yearning for some loving. And I'm going to be the one who'll help you get it!"
Alvin began to push his brothers along. "Oh, brother," Simon sighed.
And so the boys searched high and low for the perfect present for their potential dates. To make sure Alvin didn't spend all the money, they decided to split their budget into $15 each (Theodore used the remaining money to buy chocolate hearts for himself). It took until the sun had set, but all three of them managed to buy a lovely gift.
"I hope Jeanette will like this," Simon said nervously as they headed home, "I mean, she has to like it… Oh, what if she hates it?! What if she thinks I don't know her at all?!"
"I'm so selfish for eating all these chocolates!" Theodore wailed from his brown-stained lips, "Ellie will think I'm a huge pig!"
"Pull yourselves together, men!" Alvin proclaimed, "You're not gonna get anywhere thinking like that. Mark my words, by tomorrow you guys will be so smooth, you'll make Leonardo DiCaprio look like Leonardo DaVinci. You know, when he was super old and had that big old beard."
"We got it, Alvin," the tall chipmunk dryly remarked. The boys had just walked past the home of their crushes, which happened to be right next door to their house. And little did they know was that the girls were equally as nervous.
The red-headed chipette, Brittany, was pacing around in her and her sisters' bedroom. "Jeanette, Valentine's Day is only a couple of days away, and no one has yet to ask me to be their valentine."
"I'm sure someone will ask you soon, Brittany," the purple chipette assured. Jeanette was currently sitting on her bed doing English homework, "Though how about you ask someone?"
"No way! The guy is supposed to ask the girl," Brittany exclaimed.
Eleanor then popped out of her pile of stuffed animals. "Why?" the blonde asked curiously.
"Because of Eleanor… it's not gentlemanly to make the lady ask," the pink chipette answered semi-confidently.
"You don't know who to ask, do you?" Eleanor continued to smirk.
"I don't know because I've never had to!" Brittany argued, "I could have any guy I want" She then flipped her hair.
"So you must be waiting for a specific boy to ask you," the little chipette teased, "Perhaps a guy whose name starts with an 'A'?"
"Alvin? Don't be ridiculous!" Brittany scoffed, "As if he would ever ask me."
"But what if he did?" Eleanor pestered.
"Then I would say 'no' because he must've lost his mind!" Brittany yelled. She sat down at her vanity desk. She looked at herself in the mirror and moved her eyes to the reflection of The Seville house. "He would never ask me in a million years," She thought to herself, letting out a sigh. Her sisters noticed how sad she looked and didn't say a word. They also collectively turned their gaze next door.
"Well, it's not like any of us needs dates," Jeanette broke the silence, "Because we already have each other to spend Valentine's with."
"Jeanette's right! Sisters before misters," Brittany quipped. The Chipettes collectively laughed.
"Good night, guys," Eleanor smiled as she jumped into bed.
"Good night," her two sisters said back. Jeanette flipped the light switch off, and they all drifted to sleep.
Just going to split it up here since it will pace better. That song at the beginning was "Candy Girl" by New Edition, better known as the 80s Jackson 5. Will the chipmunks confess to their respective chipette? Read more to find out.
